Abstract:We study the a0 and σ mesons with the overlap fermion in the chiral regime with the pion mass as low as 182MeV in the quenched approximation. After the ηN ghost states are separated, we find that the a0 mass with qq̄ interpolation field to be almost independent of the quark mass in the region below the strange quark mass. The chirally extrapolated results are consistent with a0(1450) being the ud̄ meson and K 0 (1430) being the us̄ meson. We also calculate the scalar mesonium with a tetraquark interpolation field. In addition to the two pion scattering states, we found a state at ∼ 550 MeV. Through the study of volume dependence, we confirm that this state is a one-particle state, in contrast to the two-pion scattering states. This suggests that the observed state is a tetraquark mesonium which is quite possibly the σ(600) meson. Unlike pseudoscalar, vector, and tensor mesons, the scalar mesons are not well known in terms of their SU(3) classification, nor are the particle content of their composition and their spectroscopy. Part of the problem is that there are too many experimental candidates for the qq̄ nonet. Fig. 1 shows the current experimentally known scalar mesons whose number more than doubles that of a nonet. One viable solution is that low-lying scalars, such as the σ(600), a0(980) and f0(980) are tetraquark mesoniums whose classification and spectroscopy have been studied in the MIT bag model [1] and the potential model [2]. Another suggestion is that a0(980) and f0(980) are the KK̄ molecular states [3]. Other candidates for tetraquark mesoniums include those vector mesons pairs produced in γγ reactions [4] and hadronic productions [5] and the recently discovered charmed narrow resonances [6].
Quark-antiquark states of the lightest scalar mesons within the Nambu-Jona-Lasinio model with flavor-dependent coupling constants

Abstract:The quark antiquark components of the U(3) lightest scalar meson nonet are investigated by considering the Nambu-Jona-Lasinio model with flavor-dependent coupling constants that were derived by considering (non-perturbative) gluon exchange.The strange quark effective mass ($M_s^*$) is varied such that the strangeness content of these scalar mesons can be analyzed further. The neutral states $S_0$, $S_8$ and $S_3$, are adopted as the most relevant quark-antiquark components respectively of the $\sigma(500)$, $f_0(980)$ and $A_0^0(980)$ mesons. As a result, the mass hierarchy between states $S_0$ and $S_8$, and $K^*_0(700) - A_0(980)$ mesons, can be respectively inverted and corrected for quite low values of the strange quark constituent mass. Besides that, for some particular values of $M_s^*$, the masses of $\sigma(500)$ and $f_0(980)$ can also be obtained by considering the mixing coupling constant $G_{08}$. However, the masses of all the nine mesons are not described simultaneously in a self-consistent procedure and this goes along with the need of non-quark-antiquark states to completely describe their masses. A neutral-meson mixing matrix is defined and the leading mixing angle is found by fitting a correct value of the $\sigma(500)$-$f_0(980)$ mass difference. Two different estimates for the strengths of the mixings $A_0^0 \to f_0$ and $f_0 \to A_0^0$ are proposed, leading to somewhat different behaviors. Firstly, by assuming leading transitions to intermediary flavor eigenstates and secondly by considering a dynamical evolution. Results may be in good agreement with experimental values from BESS-III depending on the value of the strange quark effective mass.

Categorizing $SU(3)_f$ representations of scalar mesons by $J/ψ$ decays

Abstract:The scalar mesons are established for a long time, but their nature is still an open question. In this paper, we investigate the potential of categorizing their $SU(3)_f$ representations via $J/\psi\to SV$ and $\gamma S$, offering a criterion that may illuminate this issue. Here, $S$ ($V$) denotes scalar (vector) mesons. Using the $SU(3)_f$ symmetry with the current data, we find that $f_0(500)$ and $f_0(980)$ are mostly made of singlet and octet $SU(3)_f$ representations, respectively, with the singlet-octet mixing angle of $\theta = (82.9\pm4.4)^{\circ}$. This conclusion is consistent with the caculations of the quark-antiquark ($q\bar{q}$) hypothesis. For the scalar mesons in the range of 1-2 GeV, we discuss the mixings between $q\bar{q}$ and glueballs. Our numerical results suggest that $f_0(1710)$ is likely composed of the scalar glueball. We urge our experimental colleagues to measure $J/\psi \to \rho a_0(980,\ 1450,\ 1710), $ $ K^*(892)^{\pm} K^*(700,\ 1430,\ 1950)^{\mp}$ and $\omega f_0(500)$, which provide useful information in the $SU(3)_f$ analysis.

Light Scalar Mesons in QCD Sum Rules with Inclusion of Instantons

Abstract:The light scalar meson nonet above 1 GeV ({\it i.e.\}the $a_{0}$, $K^{\ast}_{0}$ and $f_{0}$) are studied within the framework of QCD sum rules. In conventional QCD sum rules, the calculated masses of this nonet are degenerate, and the mass of $K^{\ast}_{0}$ is always larger than the $a_{0}$ in contradiction with the observed spectrum. After improving the correlation function by including instanton effects, the masses are well separated from each other. In particular, our results shows glueball content plays an important role in the underlying structure of $f_{0}(1500)$. The decay constants are also discussed.

Abstract:A Hoelder inequality analysis of the QCD Laplace sum-rule which probes the non-strange (n\bar n) components of the I={0,1} (light-quark) scalar mesons supports the methodological consistency of an effective continuum contribution from instanton effects. This revised formulation enhances the magnitude of the instanton contributions which split the degeneracy between the I=0 and I=1 channels. Despite this enhanced isospin splitting effect, analysis of the Laplace and finite-energy sum-rules seems to preclude identification of a_0(980) and a light broad sigma-resonance state as the lightest isovector and isoscalar spin-zero $n\bar n$ mesons. This apparent decoupling of sigma [\equiv f_0(400-1200)] and a_0(980) from the quark n\bar n scalar currents suggests either a non-q \bar q or a dominantly s\bar s interpretation of these resonances, and further suggests the possible identification of the f_0(980) and a_0(1450) as the lightest I={0,1} scalar mesons containing a substantial n\bar n component.

QCD Sum-Rule Invisibility of the sigma Meson

Abstract:QCD Laplace sum-rules for light-quark I=0,1 scalar currents are used to investigate candidates for the lightest $q\bar q$ scalar mesons. The theoretical predictions for the sum-rules include instanton contributions which split the degeneracy between the I=0 and I=1 channels. The self-consistency of the theoretical predictions is verified through a Hölder inequality analysis, confirming the existence of an effective instanton contribution to the continuum. The sum-rule analysis indicates that the f_0(980) and a_0(1450) should be interpreted as the lightest $q\bar q$ scalar mesons. This apparent decoupling of the f_0(400-1200) (or $\sigma$) and a_0(980) from the quark scalar currents suggests a non-$q\bar q$ interpretation of these resonances.

Abstract:The property of σ-meson or f0 (400-1200) is studied in the general color symmetry model (GCM) for quantum chromodynamics. With recent determined values of mσ, fσ and fπ in GCM, the isoscalar ππ S-wave amplitude is calculated without any free parameter. The T-matrix pole for f0 (400-1200) is found to be 1011- i 284 MeV, which is very close to the Particle Data Group value (400-1200)-i (300-500) MeV.

Abstract:We investigate the "family" relationship of a possible scalar nonet composed of the a_0(980), the f_0(980) and the \sigma and \kappa type states found in recent treatments of \pi\pi and \pi K scattering. We work in the effective Lagrangian framework, starting from terms which yield "ideal mixing" according to Okubo's original formulation. It is noted that there is another solution corresponding to dual ideal mixing which agrees with Jaffe's picture of scalars as qq\bar q \bar q states rather than as q\bar q states. At the Lagrangian level there is no difference in the formulation of the two cases (other than the numerical values of the coefficients). In order to agree with experiment, additional mass and coupling terms which break ideal mixing are included. The resulting model turns out to be closer to dual ideal mixing than to conventional ideal mixing; the scalar mixing angle is roughly -17 degrees in a convention where dual ideal mixing is 0 degrees.

Abstract:We consider the relative decay rates of B(0) and Bs(0) mesons into a J/ψ plus a light scalar meson, either the f0(500) (σ) or the f0(980). We show that it is possible to distinguish between the quark content of the scalars being quark-antiquark or tetraquark by measuring specific ratios of decay rates. Using current data we determine the ratio of form factors in Bs(0)→J/ψf0(980) with respect to B(0)→J/ψf0(500) decays to be 0.99(-0.04)(+0.13) at a four-momentum transfer squared equal to the mass of the J/ψ meson squared. In the case where these light mesons are considered to be quark-antiquark states, we give a determination of the mixing angle between strange and light quark states of less than 29° at 90% confidence level. We also discuss the use of a similar ratio to investigate the structure of other isospin singlet states.
Di-Gluonium Sum Rules, I = 0 Scalar Mesons and Conformal Anomaly

Abstract:We revisit, scrutinize, improve, confirm and complete our previous results [1-3] from the scalar di-gluonium sum rules within the standard SVZ-expansion at N2LO without instantons and beyond the minimal duality ansatz : "one resonance + QCD continuum" parametrization of the spectral function which is necessary for a better understanding of the complex spectra of the $I=0$ scalar mesons. We select different (un)subtracted sum rules (USR) moments of degree $\leq$ 4 for extracting the two lowest gluonia masses and couplings. We obtain: $[M_{\sigma_B},f_{\sigma_B}]=[1.07(13),0.46(16)],~[M_{G_1},f_{G_1}][1.55(12),0.37(11)]$ GeV and the corresponding masses of the radial excitations : $M_{\sigma'_B}$= 1.11(12) and $M_{G'_1}=1.56(14)$ GeV which are (unexpectedly) almost degenerated with the ground states. The 2nd radial excitation is found to have a much heavier mass: $M_{G_2}\simeq$ 2.99(22) GeV. Combining these results with some Low-Energy Vertex Sum Rules (LEV-SR), we predict some hadronic widths and classify them into two groups : -- The $\sigma$-like ($\sigma_B,\sigma'_B$) which decay copiously to $\pi\pi$ from OZI-violating process and the $\sigma'_B$ to $2(\pi\pi)S$ through $\sigma\sigma$. -- The $G$-like $(G_1,~G'_1$ and eventually $G_2$) which decay into $\eta'\eta, ~\eta\eta$ through the $U(1)_A$ gluonic vertex. Besides some eventual mixings with quarkonia states, we may expect that the observed $\sigma/f_0(500)$ and $f_0(137)$ are $\sigma$-like while the $f_0(1.5)$ and $f_0(1.7)$ are $G$-like gluonia. The high mass $G_2(2.99)$ can also mix with the $G_1,~G'_1$ to bring the gluon component of the gluonia candidates above 2 GeV. We also estimate the conformal charge $\psi_G(0)=2.09(29)$ GeV$^4$ and its slope $10^2\psi'_G(0)=-22(29)$ GeV$^2$. Our results are summarized in Table 1.

Abstract:. Making the assumption of explicit isospin violation arising from f 0 (980)- a 0 (980) mixing, we take the point of view that the scalar mesons f 0 (980) and a 0 (980) have both strange and non-strange quark-antiquark components and evaluate the strong coupling constants g_f_0 K^+ K^- and g_a_0 K^+ K^- within the framework of the light-cone QCD sum rules approach. The large strong scalar- KK couplings through both the nn̅ and ss̅ components g^n̅n_f_0 K^ + K^- , g^s̅s_f_0 K^ + K^- , g^n̅n_a_0 K^ + K^- and g^s̅s_a_0 K^ + K^- will support the hadronic dressing mechanism; furthermore, in spite of the constituent structure differences between the f 0 (980) and a 0 (980) mesons, the strange components have larger strong coupling constants with the K + K - state than the corresponding non-strange ones, g_f_0 K^ + K^-^s̅s≈√(2)g_f_0 K^ + K^-^n̅n and g_a_0 K^ + K^-^s̅s≈√(2) g_a_0 K^ + K^-^n̅n . From the existing controversial values, we cannot reach a general consensus on the strong coupling constants g_f_0 K^+ K^- , g_a_0 K^+ K^- and the mixing angles.
Origin of Light 0(+) Scalar Resonances

Abstract:We demonstrate how most of the light $J^{P}=0^{+}$ spectrum below $2.0\,\mathrm{GeV}$ and their decays can be consistently described by the unitarized quark model incorporating the chiral constraints of Adler zeros and taking SU(3) breaking effects into account. These resonances appear as poles in the complex $s$ plane in a unified picture as $q\bar{q}$ states strongly dressed by hadron loops. Through the large $N_c$ analysis, these resonances are found to naturally separate into two kinds: $\sigma, \kappa, f_0(980), a_0(980)$ are dynamically generated and run away from the real axis as $N_c$ increases, while the others move towards the $q\bar q $ seeds. In this picture, the line shape of $a_0(980)$ is produced by a broad pole below the $K\bar{K}$ threshold, and exhibits characteristics similar to the $\sigma$ and $\kappa$.

Abstract:With the recently obtained vacuum configuration of the bilocal field, we have calculated the decay constant f(sigma) of sigma-meson in a quantum chromodynamics-based model field theory. From investigating the calculated result, it can be seen that the obtained value of f(sigma) is quite reasonable.

Abstract:A Poincar\'e-covariant quark+diquark Faddeev equation is used to develop insights into the structure of the four lightest $(I,J^P=\tfrac{3}{2},\tfrac{3}{2}^\pm)$ baryon multiplets. Whilst these systems can contain isovector-axialvector and isovector-vector diquarks, one may neglect the latter and still arrive at a reliable description. The $(\tfrac{3}{2},\tfrac{3}{2}^+)$ states are the simpler systems, with features that bear some resemblance to quark model pictures, \emph{e.g}., their most prominent rest-frame orbital angular momentum component is $\mathsf S$-wave and the $\Delta(1600)\tfrac{3}{2}^+$ may reasonably be viewed as a radial excitation of the $\Delta(1232)\tfrac{3}{2}^+$. The $(\tfrac{3}{2},\tfrac{3}{2}^-)$ states are more complex: the $\Delta(1940)\tfrac{3}{2}^-$ expresses little of the character of a radial excitation of the $\Delta(1700)\tfrac{3}{2}^-$; and whilst the rest-frame wave function of the latter is predominantly $\mathsf P$-wave, the leading piece in the $\Delta(1940)\tfrac{3}{2}^-$ wave function is $\mathsf S$-wave, in conflict with quark model expectations. Experiments that can test these predictions, such as large momentum transfer resonance electroexcitation, may shed light on the nature of emergent hadron mass.

Abstract:Vector $SO(3)$ gauged $O(4)$ sigma models on $\R_3$ are presented. The topological charge supplying the lower bound on the energy and rendering the soliton stable coincides with the Baryon number of the Skyrmion. These solitons have vanishing magnetic monopole flux. To exhibit the existence of such solitons, the equations of motion of one of these models is integrated numerically. The structure of the conserved Baryon current is briefly discussed.

Abstract:After describing the SU(2) linear sigma model (L$\sigma$M), we dynamically generate it using the B.W. Lee null tadpole sum (characterizing the true vacuum) together with the dimensional regularization lemma. Next we generate the chiral-limiting (CL) nonstrange and strange constituent quark masses ${\hat m}=325.7$ MeV; $m_s=486$ MeV away from the CL. Finally, we study vector meson dominance (VMD) and the pion, kaon charge radii and the loop-order $\rho\to\pi\gamma$, $\pi^0\to\gamma\gamma$ amplitudes in the quark model. Lastly, we verify this procedure using tree-order VMD graphs.

Abstract:Resonance, bound-state, and virtual-state pole positions of the f0(500) scalar meson are computed as a continuous function of pion mass in the framework of a unitarized and analytic coupled-channel model for scalar mesons, described as dynamical quark-antiquark states. The f0(500) is modeled with both light and strange qq ̄ seeds, mixing with each other through the common S -wave ππ , KK ̄ , and ηη meson-meson decay channels. The few model parameters are fitted to experimental S -wave ππ phase shifts up to 1 GeV. In the case of the physical π± mass of 139.57 MeV, resonance poles at (460−i222) MeV and (978−i37.2) MeV are found for the f0(500) and f0(980) , respectively. Resonance, bound-state, and virtual-state pole trajectories are computed and plotted as a function of pion masses up to 500 MeV, both in the complex-energy and complex-momentum planes. The results are discussed and compared to the most advanced lattice QCD computations employing interpolators that correspond to the qq ̄ and meson-meson channels in the present model, that is, for a few discrete values of the unphysical pion mass in those lattice calculations. https://doi.org/10.1103/PhysRevD.109.054003 Published by the American Physical Society under the terms of the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International license.
