On additive and multiplicative arithmetical functions

Abstract:A characterization of multiplicative (and additive) arithmetical functions is given. Using this characterization, we show that the group of multiplicative arithmetical functions is isomorphic to the group of additive arithmetical functions.

Abstract:An arithmetical function f is multiplicative if and whenever m and n are coprime. We study connections between certain subclasses of multiplicative functions, such as strongly multiplicative functions, over-multiplicative functions and totients. It appears, among others, that the over-multiplicative functions are exactly same as the totients and the strongly multiplicative functions are exactly same as the so-called level totients. All these functions satisfy nice arithmetical identities which are recursive in character.

Abstract:In this paper, we present constructions of abelian Paley type sets by using multiplicative characters of finite fields and Arasu–Dillon–Player difference sets. The constructions produce many new Paley type sets and their configurations that were previous unknown in our classification of Paley type sets in finite fields of small orders.

Abstract:Let Mn(K) be the ring of all n×n matrices over a division ring K, and f be a multiplicative matrix function from Mn(K) to a multiplicative Abelian group with zero G∪{0} (f(AB)=f(A)f(B),∀A,B∈Mn(K)). We call an additive transformation ϕ on Mn(K) preserves a multiplicative matrix function f, if f(ϕ(A))=f(A),∀A∈Mn(K). In this paper, we characterize all additive surjective transformations on Mn(K) over any division ring K (chK≠2) that leave a non-trivial multiplicative matrix function invariant. Applications to several related preservers are considered.

Abstract:The Additive Transform of an arithmetic function represents a novel approach to examining the interplay between multiplicative arithmetic function and additive functions. This transform concept introduces a method to systematically generate new arithmetic functions by combining the values of an existing function under an additive operation. The resulting framework not only extends our understanding of classical arithmetic functions but also provides a versatile tool for exploring additive relationships within the realm of number theory. In this article, we present the fundamental principles of the Additive Transform and illustrate its application through various examples, shedding light on its potential implications for diverse mathematical domains. Abstract:In this technical report, certain interesting classification of arithmetical functions is proposed. The notion of additively decomposable and multiplicatively decomposable arithmetical functions is proposed. The concepts of arithmetical polynomials and arithmetical power series are introduced. Using these concepts, an interesting Theorem relating arithmetical power series and infinite products has been proved. Also arithmetical polynomials are related to probabilistic number theory. Furthermore some results related to the Waring problem are discussed.

Abstract:We curry the elementary arithmetic operations of addition and multiplication to give monotone injections on N, and describe & study the inverse monoids that arise from also considering their generalised inverses. This leads to well-known classic inverse monoids, as well as a novel inverse monoid (the 'arithmetic inverse monoid' A) that generalises these in a natural number-theoretic manner. Based on this, we interpret classic inverse semigroup theoretic concepts arithmetically, and vice versa. Composition and normal forms within A are based on the Chinese remainder theorem, and a minimal generating set corresponds to all prime-order polycyclic monoids. This then gives a close connection between Nivat & Perot's normal forms for polycyclic monoids, mixed-radix counting systems, and p-adic norms & distances.

It is demonstrated that closed numerical intervals within this framework constitute Heyting algebras. The conditions for these algebras to be Boolean are identified. The article claims have undergone numerical verification. Paths for generalization to normed linear spaces are delineated.

Abstract:The usual dictionary between geometry and commutative algebra is not appropriate for Arithmetic geometry because addition is a singular operation at the "Real prime". We replace Rings, with addition and multiplication, by Props (=strict symmetric monoidal category generated by one object), or by Bioperad (=two closed symmetric operads acting on each other): to a ring we associate the prop of all matrices over it, with matrix multiplication and block direct sums as the basic operations, or the bioperad consisting of all raw and column vectors over it. We define the "commutative" props and bioperads, and using them we develop a generalized algebraic geometry, following Grothendieck footsteps closely. This new geometry is appropriate for Arithmetic (and potentially also for Physics).

Abstract:Let $A$ be a set of natural numbers. A set $B$, a set of natural numbers, is said to be an additive complement of the set $A$ if all sufficiently large natural numbers can be represented in the form $x+y$, where $x\in A$ and $y\in B$. This article describes various types of additive complements of the set $A$ such as those additive complement of $A$ that does not intersects $A$, additive complements of the form of the union of disjoint infinite arithmetic progressions, additive complement having various density etc. As an application of this study, we also focus on the structure of sumset of arithmetic progression and geometric progression. Apart from this, for given positive real no. $\alpha \leq 1$ and finite set $A$, we investigate a set $B$ such that it can be written as union of disjoint infinite arithmetic progression and density of $A+B$ is $\alpha$.

Abstract:Let p be an odd prime. In this paper, analogs of Wilson?s and Wolstenholme?s theorems on the solution sets S+ = {n ? Z* p | n ? a + b ? ab (mod p)} and S? = {n ? Z* p | n ? a ? b ? ab (mod p)} are given, where Z* p denote a reduced residue system modulo p. We also establish congruences about sum and product of the quadratic residues in S+ or in S? modulo p. Finally, we raise a problem on how to solve Hadamard?s conjecture in the last section.

Abstract:An additive action on an irreducible algebraic variety X is an effective action with an open orbit of the vector group . Any two additive actions on X are conjugate by a birational automorphism of X . We prove that, if X is the projective space, the conjugating element can be chosen in the affine Cremona group and it is given by so-called basic polynomials of the corresponding local algebra.

Abstract:In this paper, we study additive maps f:A→A on an alternative Cayley-Dickson algebra A satisfying the product preserving property: f(x)f(y)=m whenever xy = k , where k and m are constant elements of A . We prove that f may be written as a multiple of a Jordan homomorphism. Unlike in the associative case, Jordan homomorphisms of strictly alternative division rings need not be homomorphisms or anti-homomorphisms, but we provide necessary and sufficient conditions for this to occur. We then extend these ideas to split alternative Cayley-Dickson algebras of characteristic not 2 and present some open questions when k or m is noninvertible. The final section handles the problem k=m=0 and generalizes to biadditive maps that preserve the zero product.

Abstract:An inversive meadow is a commutative ring with identity equipped with a multiplicative inverse operation made total by choosing 0 as its value at 0. Previously, inversive meadows were shortly called meadows. A divisive meadow is an inversive meadows with the multiplicative inverse operation replaced by a division operation. In the spirit of Peacock's arithmetical algebra, we introduce variants of inversive and divisive meadows without an additive identity element and an additive inverse operation. We give equational axiomatizations of several classes of such variants of inversive and divisive meadows as well as of several instances of them.

Abstract:Additive relations are defined over additive monoids and additive operation is introduced over these new relations then we build algebraic system of equations. We can generate profuse equations by additive relations of two variables. To give an equation with several known parameters is to give an additive relation taking these known parameters as its variables or value and the solution of the equation is just the reverse of this relation which always exists. We show a core result in this paper that any additive relation of many variables and their inverse can be expressed in the form of the superposition of additive relations of one variable in an algebraic system of equations if the system satisfies some conditions. This result means that there is always a formula solution expressed in the superposition of additive relations of one variable for any equation in this system. We get algebraic equations if elements of the additive monoid are numbers and get operator equations if they are functions.
