Abstract:We consider the moments of products of complete elliptic integrals of the first and second kinds. In particular, we derive new results using elementary means, aided by computer experimentation and a theorem of W. Zudilin. Diverse related evaluations, and two conjectures, are also given.

Abstract:In this paper we describe a proof of the formulas of Witten [W1], [W2] about the symplectic volumes and the intersection numbers of the moduli spaces of principal bundles on a compact Riemann surface. It is known that these formulas give all the information needed for the Verlinde formula. The main idea of the proof is to use the heat kernel on compact Lie groups, in a way very similar to the heat kernel proof of the Atiyah-Singer index formula and the Atiyah-Bott fixed point formula. The Reidemeister torsion comes into the picture, through a beautiful observation of Witten, as the symplectic volume of the moduli space. It plays the role similar to that played by the Ray-Singer torsion in the path-integral computations on the space of connections. The basic idea is as follows. Consider a smooth map between two compact smooth manifolds f : M → N . Let H(t, x, x0) be the heat kernel of the Laplace-Beltrami operator on N with x0 a fixed regular value of f . Moments of the cot function, central factorial numbers and their links with the Dirichlet eta function at odd integers

Abstract:We investigate the properties of the moments of the cot function using the central factorial numbers. Using a new integral representation of the central factorial numbers, we find a new way to express these moments in terms of recursive sums and integrals. This allows us to compute 'recursive' generalized harmonic series and multiple integrals as a linear combination of the Dirichlet eta functions at odd integers.

Abstract:We refine a recent heuristic developed by Keating and the second author. Our improvement leads to a new integral expression for the conjectured asymptotic formula for shifted moments of the Riemann zeta‐function. This expression is analogous to a formula, recently discovered by Brad Rodgers and Kannan Soundararajan, for moments of characteristic polynomials of random matrices from the unitary group.

Abstract:We introduce and prove evaluations for families of multiple elliptic integrals by solving special types of ordinary and partial differential equations. As an application, we obtain new expressions of Ramanujan-type series of level 4 and associated singular values for the complete elliptic integral $\mathbf K$ with integrals involving $\mathbf K$.

Abstract:Glasser, in 2011, introduced a remarkable integral identity of physical interest and {\color{blue} suggested} that the evaluation provides the unique analytically tractable moment of on a sub-unit interval, where denotes the complete elliptic integral of the first kind, and where denotes Catalan's constant. We show how a case of Clausen's product identity related to Ramanujan's series for may be applied, via an integration argument derived from our past work in fractional analysis and Fourier--Legendre theory, to show how higher moments of on the same sub-unit interval may be evaluated analytically in terms of the -function. This and Glasser's moment formula are motivated by how closely related moment formulas for powers of arise in the study of Feynman diagrams.

Abstract:We make conjectures on the moments of the central values of the family of all elliptic curves and on the moments of the first derivative of the central values of a large family of positive rank curves. In both cases the order of magnitude is the same as that of the moments of the central values of an orthogonal family of L-functions. Notably, we predict that the critical values of all rank 1 elliptic curves is logarithmically larger than the rank 1 curves in the positive rank family. Furthermore, as arithmetical applications we make a conjecture on the distribution of a_p's amongst all rank 2 elliptic curves, and also show how the Riemann hypothesis can be deduced from sufficient knowledge of the first moment of the positive rank family (based on an idea of Iwaniec).

Abstract:We conjecture results about the moments of mixed derivatives of the Riemann zeta function, evaluated at the non-trivial zeros of the Riemann zeta function. We do this in two different ways, both giving us the same conjecture. In the first, we find asymptotics for the moments of derivatives of the characteristic polynomials of matrices in the Circular Unitary Ensemble. In the second, we consider the hybrid model approach first proposed by Gonek, Hughes and Keating.

Abstract:In this paper we provide a unified approach to a family of integrals of Mellin--Barnes type using distribution theory and Fourier transforms. Interesting features arise in many of the cases which call for the application of pull-backs of distributions via smooth submersive maps defined by Hörmander. We derive by this method the integrals of Hecke and Sonine relating to various types of Bessel functions which have found applications in analytic and algebraic number theory.

Abstract:We give a brief account of the key properties of elliptic hypergeometric integrals -- a relatively recently discovered top class of transcendental special functions of hypergeometric type. In particular, we describe an elliptic generalization of Euler's and Selberg's beta integrals, elliptic analogue of the Euler-Gauss hypergeometric function and some multivariable elliptic hypergeometric functions on root systems. The elliptic Fourier transformation and corresponding integral Bailey lemma technique is outlined together with a connection to the star-triangle relation and Coxeter relations for a permutation group. We review also the interpretation of elliptic hypergeometric integrals as superconformal indices of four dimensional supersymmetric quantum field theories and corresponding applications to Seiberg type dualities.

Abstract:We provide several simple recursive formulae for the moment sequence of infinite Bernoulli convolution. We relate moments of one infinite Bernoulli convolution with others having different but related parameters. We give examples relating Euler numbers to the moments of infinite Bernoulli convolutions. One of the examples provides moment interpretation of Pell numbers as well as new identities satisfied by Pell and Lucas numbers.

Abstract:Inspired by Stein's lemma, we derive two expressions for the joint moments of elliptical distributions. We use two different methods to derive $E[X_{1}^{2}f(\mathbf{X})]$ for any measurable function $f$ satisfying some regularity conditions. Then, by applying this result, we obtain new formulae for expectations of product of normally distributed random variables, and also present simplified expressions of $E[X_{1}^{2}f(\mathbf{X})]$ for multivariate Student-$t$, logistic and Laplace distributions.

Applications of Moments of Dirichlet Coefficients in Elliptic Curve Families

Abstract:The moments of the coefficients of elliptic curve L-functions are related to numerous arithmetic problems. Rosen and Silverman proved a conjecture of Nagao relating the first moment of one-parameter families satisfying Tate's conjecture to the rank of the corresponding elliptic surface over Q(T); one can also construct families of moderate rank by finding families with large first moments. Michel proved that if j(T) is not constant, then the second moment of the family is of size p^2 + O(p^(3/2)); these two moments show that for suitably small support the behavior of zeros near the central point agree with that of eigenvalues from random matrix ensembles, with the higher moments impacting the rate of convergence. In his thesis, Miller noticed a negative bias in the second moment of every one-parameter family of elliptic curves over the rationals whose second moment had a calculable closed-form expression, specifically the first lower order term which does not average to zero is on average negative. This Bias Conjecture is confirmed for many families; however, these are highly non-generic families whose resulting Legendre sums can be determined. Inspired by the recent successes by Yang-Hui He, Kyu-Hwan Lee, Thomas Oliver, Alexey Pozdnyakov and others in investigations of murmurations of elliptic curve coefficients with machine learning techniques, we pose a similar problem for trying to understand the Bias Conjecture. As a start to this program, we numerically investigate the Bias Conjecture for a family whose bias is positive for half the primes. Since the numerics do not offer conclusive evidence that negative bias for the other half is enough to overwhelm the positive bias, the Bias Conjecture cannot be verified for the family.

Multiple integral formulas for weighted zeta moments: the case of the sixth moment

Abstract:We prove exact formulas for weighted $2k$th moments of the Riemann zeta function for all integer $k\geq 1$ in terms of the analytic continuation of an auto-correlation function. This latter enjoys several functional equations. One of them, following from a fundamental lemma of Bettin and Conrey (2013), yields to new formulas for the moments: our second main result is the case $k=3$, but there is no obstruction to obtain higher moments. This generalizes results by Titchmarsh (1928) for $k=1$ and $k=2$. A basic and powerful tool is a special Fourier transform unveiled by Ramanujan (1915). In a nutshell, the new idea is to consider the associated structures to $\Gamma^k\zeta^k$, which enjoy remarkable properties that are not satisfied by the more classically studied structure $\Gamma\zeta^k$.

Abstract:The generating series of Gromov-Witten invariants of elliptic curves can be expressed in terms of multi-variable elliptic functions by works of Bloch-Okounkov and Okounkov-Pandharipande. In this work we give new sum-over-partitions formulas for these generating series and show that they are configuration space integrals of cohomology classes constructed from sections of Poincare bundles. We also discuss their quasi-elliptic and quasi-modular properties.

The twisted second moment of modular half integral weight $L$--functions

Abstract:Given a half-integral weight holomorphic Kohnen newform $f$ on $\Gamma_0(4)$, we prove an asymptotic formula for large primes $p$ with power saving error term for \begin{equation*} \sideset{}{^*} \sum_{\chi \hspace{-0.15cm} \pmod{p}} | L(1/2,f,\chi) |^2. \end{equation*} Our result is unconditional, it does not rely on the Ramanujan--Petersson conjecture for the form $f$. This gives a very sharp Lindelöf on average result for Dirichlet series attached to Hecke eigenforms without an Euler product. The Lindelöf hypothesis for such series was originally conjectured by Hoffstein. There are two main inputs. The first is a careful spectral analysis of a highly unbalanced shifted convolution problem involving the Fourier coefficients of half-integral weight forms. The second input is a bound for sums of products of Salié sums in the Polya--Vinogradov range. Half--integrality is fully exploited to establish such an estimate. We use the closed form evaluation of the Salié sum to relate our problem to the sequence $\alpha n^2 \pmod{1}$. Our treatment of this sequence is inspired by work of Rudnick--Sarnak and the second author on the local spacings of $\alpha n^2$ modulo one.

On Product Formulas of Guillera and Sondow

Abstract:In this note, we evaluate a multivariable family of infinite products which generalize Guillera's infinite product for $e$, and Ser's formula (rediscovered by Sondow) for $e^\gamma$. We describe formulas for the products in terms of special values of the Hurwitz zeta function $\zeta(s,u)$ and its $s$ derivative. Additionally, we derive integral and double integral representations for the logarithms of these infinite products.
