Abstract:BACKGROUND:Due to the increasing recognition of gastrointestinal stromal tumor (GIST), novel insights have appeared in both preclinical and clinical research and begun to reshape the field. This study aims to map the research landscape through bibliometric analysis and provide a brief overview for the future of the GIST field.METHODS:We searched the Web of Science Core Collection without publication data restrictions for GISTs and performed a bibliometric analysis with CiteSpace and VOSviewer software.RESULTS:In sum, 5,911 of 13,776 records were included, and these studies were published in 948 journals and written by 24,965 authors from 4,633 institutions in 100 countries. Referring to published reviews and bibliometric analysis, we classified the future trends in four groups. In epidemiological study, precise incidence and clinicopathological features in different regions and races might become potential hotspots. Novel therapy, such as drugs, modified strategies, radioligand therapy, was persistent hotspots in GIST fields, and ctDNA-guided diagnosis, monitoring, and treatment might meet future clinical needs. The debate over serosa surgery vs. mucosa surgery will remain active for a long time in GIST surgery, and function reserve surgery, biology-based surgery will play an important role in future. Moreover, rare GIST type, like NF-1-associated GIST, Carney triads and SDH mutant GIST, need more studies in pathogenesis and genetic mutation to provide appropriate treatment for this orphan GIST patients.CONCLUSIONS:Potential hotspots in future GIST trends might involve epidemiology, agents, resection therapy and rare type GIST, moreover, researchers could pay more attention in these four fields.

Abstract:Introduction: Extensive studies indicated that caveolin is a key regulator in multiple cellular processes. Recently, growing evidence demonstrated that caveolin is critically involved in tumor progression. Since no relevant bibliometric study has been published, we performed a bibliometric and visual analysis to depict the knowledge framework of research related to the involvement of caveolin in cancer. Methods: Relevant studies published in English during 2003–2022 were obtained from the Web of Science Core Collection database. Three programs (VOSviewer, CiteSpace, and R- bibliometrix ) and the website of bibliometrics (http://bibliometric.com/) were applied to construct networks based on the analysis of countries, institutions, authors, journals, references, and keywords. Results: A total of 2,463 documents were extracted and identified. The United States had the greatest number of publications and total citations, and Thomas Jefferson University was the most productive institution. Michael P. Lisanti was the most influential scholar in this research domain. Cell Cycle was the journal with the most publications on this subject. The most local-cited document was the article titled "Caveolin-1 in oncogenic transformation, cancer, and metastasis." A comprehensive analysis has been conducted based on keywords and cited references. Initially, the research frontiers were predominantly "signal transduction", "human breast cancer," "oncogenically transformed cells," "tumor suppressor gene," and "fibroblasts." While in recent years, the research emphasis has shifted to "tumor microenvironment," "epithelial mesenchymal transition," "nanoparticles," and "stem cells." Conclusion: Taken together, our bibliometric analysis shows that caveolin continues to be of interest in cancer research. The hotspots and research frontiers have evolved from the regulation of cancer signaling, to potential targets of cancer therapy and novel techniques. These results can provide a data-based reference for the guidance of future research.

Abstract:Objective This study aims to identify research trends and hot spots in the treatment of Squamous Cell Carcinoma (SCC) over the past decade using bibliometric analysis. Methods Data were extracted from the Web of Science Core Collection, including Science Citation Index Expanded (SCI-Expanded), Social Sciences Citation Index (SSCI), and Emerging Sources Citation Index (ESCI). The data underwent manual cleaning to remove inaccuracies and irrelevancies, followed by transformation into an analyzable format via the VOSviewer software. This tool facilitated the visualization of co-occurrence networks and keyword maps, highlighting the relationships and the prominence of research themes. Results A total of 46,448 authors from 7,374 institutions across 108 countries contributed to the literature, reflecting a broad international effort. The study documented a consistent increase in SCC-related publications up to 2020, with some variability in subsequent years. Notably, the United States, Germany, China, the United Kingdom, and France were predominant in this research area. The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center and the University of Pittsburgh were leading contributors in terms of publication volume and citation impact. Key journals included 'Oral Oncology' and 'Clinical Cancer Research', which were central to the dissemination of high-impact research. Our keyword analysis identified three major research clusters focused on molecular mechanisms, clinical treatment strategies, and emerging interests in immunotherapeutic approaches. Conclusions The extensive collaboration and the increasing publication trend underscore the growing global commitment to advancing SCC treatment. The high level of engagement from top institutions and the concentration of research in influential journals reflect the field's dynamic evolution towards innovative and effective treatment modalities. This study provides a valuable overview for researchers, guiding future studies towards areas of high impact and emerging trends in SCC treatment. The findings advocate for enhanced focus on personalized medicine and combination therapies, which are poised to improve outcomes for SCC patients.
Global research trends in immunotherapy for head and neck neoplasms: A scientometric study

Abstract:In recent decades, the traditional treatment of head and neck neoplasms has reached a bottleneck with limited improvement in overall survival. Nevertheless, the emerging field of immunotherapy has shown promise. Literature on research into immunotherapy for head and neck neoplasms was retrieved from WoSCC. Citespace was used as a scientometric analysis tool for text mining and visualization of the scientific literature. This analysis included 1915 documents. Recently, the annual number of publications and citations has been growing rapidly. 'Oncology' was the most popular research area. The most dominant institution and country were the University of Pittsburgh and the USA. Ferris RL was not only the most prolific but also the most cited author, demonstrating a strong influence and reputation. Of the ten core journals identified in this field, Cancer Research ranked first. 'Regulatory T cell', 'PD-1' and 'biomarker' were regarded as current hotspots, while 'recurrent' and 'nivolumab' were considered as trending keywords. The most cited reference was Ferris RL (2016). Notably, the front trends and future directions in the field may lie in the clinical practice of combination therapy of immunotherapy plus other therapies, the mechanism of impaired immune surveillance, and the improvement in resistance to immunotherapeutic agents. It is firmly believed that the present scientometric analysis has provided both a macroscopic and microscopic overview of research into immunotherapy for head and neck neoplasms, which will assist researchers and oncologists to better understand this discipline and thus promote further development and policies in this field.
Visualized analysis of trends and hotspots in global oral microbiome research: A bibliometric study

Abstract:The oral microbiome contains numerous bacteria, which directly or indirectly participate in various human functions and continuously exchange signals and substances with the human body, significantly affecting human life cycle, health, and disease. This study aimed to conduct bibliometric studies on the scientific outputs of global oral microbiome research by Citespace software. The data were obtained from the Thomson Reuters' Web of Science Core Collection (WoSCC), from the first relevant literature published until December 31st, 2019, and a total of 2225 articles and reviews were identified. The top country and institutions are the United States and Harvard University. Keywords analysis showed that periodontal disease, oral microbes, and dental plaque are research hotspots. The burst word analysis indicates that early childhood caries, squamous cell carcinoma, gut microbiome, Helicobacter pylori, Candida albicans, and dysbiosis are likely to become the research hotspots of the next era. We also recommend the use of knowledge mapping methods to track specific knowledge areas efficiently and objectively regularly, which can accurately identify hotspots and frontiers and provide valuable information for practitioners in the field, including related scientists, students, journals, and editors.

Abstract:Abstract Neck dissection for oral squamous-cell carcinoma (OSCC) is a clinically controversial issue and has therefore been the subject of abundant research. However, no one has performed a bibliometric study on this topic to date. The aim of this study was to assess the development of research on neck dissection for OSCC in terms of the historical evolution, current hotspots and future directions, particularly including research trends and frontiers from 2010 to 2019. Literature records related to research on neck dissection for OSCC were retrieved from the Web of Science Core Collection (WoSCC). CiteSpace was used as a tool to perform a bibliometric analysis of this topic. The survey included 2 096 papers. “Otorhinolaryngology” was the most popular research area. The most active institutions and countries were Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center and the USA, respectively. Shah J.P. was the most cited author. Among the six identified “core journals”, Head & Neck ranked first. The top three trending keywords were ‘invasion’, ‘upper aerodigestive’ and ‘negative neck’. ‘D’Cruz AK (2015)’ was the most cited and the strongest burst reference in the last decade. The study evaluated the effect on survival of elective versus therapeutic neck dissection in patients with lateralized early-stage OSCC. The depth of invasion and the management of N0 OSCC were research frontiers in this field. The present study provides a comprehensive bibliometric analysis of research on neck dissection for OSCC, which will assist investigators in exploring potential research directions.

Abstract:Purpose: The primary goal of this study was to assess the growth, most influential articles, countries, journals, authors, and papers published in the field of global oral cancer. Research articles on oral cancer, published between 1989 and 2022, were identified through the Web of Science database to achieve this. Methods: A comprehensive dataset comprising 7,178 documents was meticulously extracted from the Web of Science, forming the basis for scientometric analysis. A refined subset of 4,901 documents was judiciously selected following a rigorous screening process for meticulous, in-depth analysis. Results: The field has witnessed a remarkable publication surge, with the United States taking the lead in productivity. The journal Oral Oncology has become the foremost publication, renowned for its prolific output and widespread citation. This trend highlights the growing importance and interest in this domain, with researchers and experts worldwide contributing to the expanding body of knowledge. The United States' dominance in productivity suggests its strong commitment to advancing research in the field, while Oral Oncology's recognition underscores its influential role in disseminating cutting-edge findings and fostering scientific progress. Abstract:Numerous studies have highlighted the implication of oral microbiota in various cancers. However, no bibliometric analysis has been conducted on the relationship between oral microbiota and cancer. This bibliometric analysis aimed to identify the research hotspots in oral microbiota and cancer research, as well as predict future research trends. The literature published relating to oral microbiota and cancer was searched from the Web of Science Core Collection database (WoSCC) from 2013 to 2022. VOSviewer or Citespace software was used to perform the bibliometric analysis, focusing on countries, institutions, authors, journals, keywords and references. A total of 1516 publications were included in the analysis. The number of publications related oral microbiota and cancer increased annually, reaching its peak in 2022 with 287 papers. The United States (456) and China (370) were the countries with the most publications and made significant contributions to the field. Sears CL and Zhou XD were the most productive authors. The high frequency of keywords revealed key topics, including cancer (colorectal cancer, oral cancer), oral microbiota ( Fusobacterium nucleatum , Porphyromonas gingivalis ), and inflammation (periodontal disease). The latest trend keywords were F. nucleatum , dysbiosis, prognosis, tumor microenvironment, gastric microbiota, complications and survival, suggesting a new hotspot in the field of oral microbiota and cancer. Our study provides a comprehensive analysis of oral microbiota and cancer research, revealing an increase in publications in recent years. Future research directions will continue to focus on the diversity of oral microbiota impacted by cancers and the underlying mechanism connecting them, providing new ideas for targeted therapy of tumorigenesis.

Abstract:Both periodontal disease and cancer are prevalent conditions with significant impacts on individuals and society. Extensive research has suggested a potential link between these two diseases. This study conducted a bibliometric analysis using the Thomson Reuters Web of Science Core Collection database, focusing on publications from 2014 to 2023. The analysis included data extraction and examination of authors, affiliations, publication dates, journals, countries, citation counts, keywords, and the H-index. A total of 253 relevant articles were identified, showing an increasing trend in both publications and citations over the years. The analysis highlighted the most productive authors, institutions, and countries/regions, with Michaud DS and Abnet CC leading in the number of publications. Highly cited articles emphasized the role of specific oral microbiota, particularly F. nucleatum and P. gingivalis, in various cancers, suggesting their potential as diagnostic markers and therapeutic targets. Four key thematic clusters emerged from the keyword analysis: the broader health implications of periodontal disease, the microbiome's role in carcinogenesis, inflammation, and specific bacteria in cancer, and epidemiological methods in studying the disease-cancer association. This bibliometric analysis underscores the growing interest in the connection between periodontal disease and cancer. Future research should adopt interdisciplinary approaches, focus on large-scale microbiome studies and longitudinal research to understand the systemic effects of periodontal disease, identify cancer-associated bacterial profiles, and investigate the molecular mechanisms of bacterial carcinogenesis. Additionally, public health interventions aimed at improving oral hygiene and reducing cancer risk factors are recommended.

Abstract:Cancer diseases are caused by combination of genetic, environmental, and lifestyle factors. Therefore, it is difficult for health organization to treat this disease. This study focuses on identifying the landscape of Cancer research by using bibliometric methods and social network analysis methods based on a number of research articles related to Cancer retrieved from PubMed. To deeply understand the landscape of research on this disease, we adopt productivity analysis which consists of author, university/institution, country and frequent MeSH terms analysis. We specifically perform the concept graph-based network analysis by applying four centrality measures and analyzing co-occurrence of MeSH terms. In the end, we propose a method to predict the Rising Star that may be the active researcher in the field of Cancer disease in the next few years. With this method, we can possibly find more academic cooperation via academic social networks. The encouraging results show that our work is highly feasible.
Sexual health problems of patients with cancer: A bibliometrics study and visualization analysis via CiteSpace

Abstract:Purpose: This study aimed to conduct a bibliometric analysis of the data acquired and clarified the current research status of sexual health problems in patients with cancer, to provide a comprehensive visual perspective suitable as a reference for subsequent research. Methods: We searched the Web of Science Core Collection (WoSCC) up to April 30, 2023 to identify studies associated with sexual health problems in patients with cancer. CiteSpace was used to create visualization networks for countries, institutions, authors, and journals. Results: A total of 3183 publications related to sexual health problems in patients with cancer were collected from the WoSCC. In terms of volume, the USA (1259 papers) was the leading country, the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (119 papers) was the leading institution, and Carter (39 papers) was the author with the most publications. The top-cited references and keywords were related to quality of life. The top five clusters of reference cocitation were 'brachytherapy', 'prostate cancer', 'radical prostatectomy', 'hypogonadism', and 'breast cancer'. Meanwhile, the top five clusters of keyword cocitation were 'breast cancer', 'prostate cancer', 'rectal cancer', 'testicular cancer', and 'sexual function'. The analysis of the top 25 references and keywords with the strongest citation bursts of published papers on sexual health problems in patients with cancer to reveal the research hotspots and trends. Conclusions: Research on sexual health among patients with cancer is constantly developing. The current research focuses on the impact of different treatment options for sexual health and quality of life of patients with breast, rectal, and genitourinary neoplasms. Exploring the long-term changing regularities of sexual function among cancer survivors and formulating sexual health interventions toward patient-reported outcomes and needs are key research directions.
Macrophages in head and neck squamous cell carcinoma: A bibliometric analysis

Abstract:Introduction: The tumor microenvironment in head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC) is densely infiltrated by macrophages. Utilizing bibliometric analysis, the characteristics, hotspots for research, and research frontiers related to macrophages in HNSCC were reviewed. Methods: The Web of Science Core Collection database was queried for relevant articles published from 2000 to 2022. VOSviewer and CiteSpace software were utilized to evaluate and visualize macrophage-related HNSCC research trends and hotspots. Results: Assessment of original articles revealed that the annual number of publications regarding the role of macrophages in HNSCC has increased steadily over the past 23 years. China produced the most articles, whereas the United States had the highest number of citations and highest H-index. Wuhan University and Oral Oncology were the most productive affiliation and journal, respectively. The paper published by Bray et al in the CA-A Cancer Journal for Clinicians in 2018 had the greatest number of citations. The keywords "expression," "cancer," and "tumor-associated macrophages (TAMs)" occurred most frequently. Conclusions: This bibliometric investigation discovered that publications about macrophages in HNSCC are steadily increasing. The majority of studies focused on macrophage polarization, macrophage markers, and inflammation in the tumor microenvironment. Furthermore, our bibliometric analysis revealed that the immunosuppressive role of tumor-associated macrophages in the tumor microenvironment and resistance to therapy in HNSCC have recently received attention.

Abstract:BACKGROUND Gastrointestinal neoplasm (GN) significantly impact the global cancer burden and mortality, necessitating early detection and treatment. Understanding the evolution and current state of research in this field is vital. AIM To conducts a comprehensive bibliometric analysis of publications from 1984 to 2022 to elucidate the trends and hotspots in the GN risk assessment research, focusing on key contributors, institutions, and thematic evolution. METHODS This study conducted a bibliometric analysis of data from the Web of Science Core Collection database using the "bibliometrix" R package, VOSviewer, and CiteSpace. The analysis focused on the distribution of publications, contributions by institutions and countries, and trends in keywords. The methods included data synthesis, network analysis, and visualization of international collaboration networks. RESULTS This analysis of 1371 articles on GN risk assessment revealed a notable evolution in terms of research focus and collaboration. It highlights the United States' critical role in advancing this field, with significant contributions from institutions such as Brigham and Women's Hospital and the National Cancer Institute. The last five years, substantial advancements have been made, representing nearly 45% of the examined literature. Publication rates have dramatically increased, from 20 articles in 2002 to 112 in 2022, reflecting intensified research efforts. This study underscores a growing trend toward interdisciplinary and international collaboration, with the Journal of Clinical Oncology standing out as a key publication outlet. This shift toward more comprehensive and collaborative research methods marks a significant step in addressing GN risks. CONCLUSION This study underscores advancements in GN risk assessment through genetic analyses and machine learning and reveals significant geographical disparities in research emphasis. This calls for enhanced global collaboration and integration of artificial intelligence to improve cancer prevention and treatment accuracy, ultimately enhancing worldwide patient care.

Abstract:Background Salivary biomarkers play an important role in the preventive strategy for oral cancer detection at an early stage. The aim of this study was to carry out a comparative quantitative analysis of the research material on the topic in one established database, Scopus and another emerging database, Dimensions. Method An electronic search was performed in Scopus and Dimensions in April 2024 with the search subjects "Saliva," "Biomarkers," "Diagnosis," and "Oral Cancer." The retrieved data were analyzed using Biblioshiny for RStudio and MS Excel. Result The search yielded 229 and 158 documents in Scopus and Dimensions, respectively. The data were studied to understand the coverage, concentration, and diversion of research articles. The analysis revealed high singularity index for Scopus and low overlap percentage between the two databases. Scopus was found to have higher citation count per article, however, the citation correlation between Scopus and Dimensions was found to be strong. Author productivity was found to be low in both the databases. Conclusion Scopus and Dimensions vary in their scope, volume of data, and coverage policies. Both the databases have complimentary coverage on salivary biomarkers for oral cancer diagnosis. However, Scopus has a greater number of articles, sources, and citations resulting in better coverage of the topic.

Abstract:Background: Over the past decade, a plethora of studies have delved into the oral microbiome. Our objective was to evaluate the trends in oral microbiome research employing a quantitative approach. Materials and methods: We extracted clinical studies on the oral microbiome published between 2013 and 2022 from the Web of Science database, yielding 3024 articles. The assembled literature was visually scrutinized using VOSviewer 1.6.18, Citespace 6.1.6, Pajek, Scimago Graphica, and other specialized software to assess authors, institutions, countries, journals, co-cited literature, keywords, genes, and diseases. Results: Our analysis identified a total of 3024 articles. The volume and rate of annual publications steadily increased, with research interest in the oral microbiome progressively intensifying. The United States, China, and the UK contributed the highest number of publications. Growth rates of publications varied among countries over time. The Forsyth Institute emerged as the most collaborative institution, boasting the highest number of relevant papers (135) and securing the top rank, followed by Sichuan University and Harvard University. Paster Bruce J, Zhou Xuedong, and He Xuesong were pioneers in the field of oral microbiome research. This analysis demonstrates that the homeostatic balance of the oral microbiome, advanced microbial sequencing technology, connections with gut microbiota, and tumorigenesis, including oral cancer, have become emerging topics in the oral microbiome field. Conclusions: This study delineated a comprehensive landscape of hotspots and frontiers in oral microbiome research, thus facilitating the identification of interdisciplinary advancements. We sincerely hope that our bibliometric analysis will enable researchers to leverage the oral microbiome to ultimately improve human oral health.

Abstract:Background: BET family proteins are important epigenetic and transcriptional regulators involved in the control of tumorigenesis and development and have become important targets for cancer therapy. However, there is no systematic bibliometric analysis in this field. A visual analysis of the research hotspots and trends of BET is helpful to understand the future development direction. Method: We used CiteSpace, VOSviewer, and Excel to visualize and analyze the trends regarding authors, journals, countries or regions, highly cited papers, and keywords in the field. Result: The results included a total of 946 publications. There are many more papers on BET proteins published since 2013. The papers are mainly from 44 countries, led by the U.S. and China. A total of 7381 authors were identified, among which Bradner, J.E. had the greatest number of articles and the greatest influence. Cancer Discovery was the journal with the most citations per article. Our analysis identified the most influential papers in the field, including highly cited papers and citation burst references. The most frequent keywords included 'expression', 'c-Myc', 'cancer', 'BRD4', 'BET inhibition', 'resistance', 'differentiation', and 'JQ1', which represent the focus of current and developing research fields. Conclusion: Research on BET is thriving. Collaboration and exchanges between countries and institutions must be strengthened in the future, and the mechanisms of BET-related pathways, the relationship between BET and various diseases, and the development of new BET inhibitors have become the major focus of current research and the trend of future research.

Abstract:Technology in Cancer Research &Treatment, Volume 23, Issue , January-December 2024. Objectives: The purpose of this research is to summarize the structure of radiomics-based knowledge and to explore potential trends and priorities by using bibliometric analysis. Methods: Select radiomics-related publications from 2012 to October 2022 from the Science Core Collection Web site. Use VOSviewer (version 1.6.18), CiteSpace (version 6.1.3), Tableau (version 2022), Microsoft Excel and Rstudio's free online platforms (http://bibliometric.com) for co-writing, co-citing, and co-occurrence analysis of countries, institutions, authors, references, and keywords in the field. The visual analysis is also carried out on it. Results: The study included 6428 articles. Since 2012, there has been an increase in research papers based on radiomics. Judging by publications, China has made the largest contribution in this area. We identify the most productive institutions and authors as Fudan University and Tianjie. The top three magazines with the most publications are《FRONTIERS IN ONCOLOGY》, 《EUROPEAN RADIOLOGY》, and 《CANCERS》. According to the results of reference and keyword analysis, "deep learning, nomogram, ultrasound, f-18-fdg, machine learning, covid-19, radiogenomics" has been determined as the main research direction in the future. Conclusion: Radiomics is in a phase of vigorous development with broad prospects. Cross-border cooperation between countries and institutions should be strengthened in the future. It can be predicted that the development of deep learning-based models and multimodal fusion models will be the focus of future research. Advances in knowledge: This study explores the current state of research and hot spots in the field of radiomics from multiple perspectives, comprehensively, and objectively reflecting the evolving trends in imaging-related research and providing a reference for future research.

Global research trends on B7-H3 for cancer immunotherapy: A bibliometric analysis (2012-2022)

Abstract:Immunotherapy has revolutionized cancer treatment. B7-H3 is a promising target for cancer immunotherapy (CI). The present study aimed to utilize bibliometric methods to assess the current research status and explore future trends in the use of B7-H3 for CI. We collected publications related to B7-H3/CI from the Clarivate Web of Science Core Collection database. VOSviewer, Microsoft Excel, the bibliometrix R package, and an online platform were used to conduct qualitative and visualized analyses of the literature. A total of 555 papers were analyzed, revealing a significant increase in annual publications since 2018. The most productive countries were China and the USA, and the leading institutions were Soochow University and Sichuan University. Zang and Ferrone were the most popular authors. Among the journals, Frontiers in Immunology had the highest number of papers, whereas Clinical Cancer Research was the most influential. Historical citation analysis reveals the development of B7-H3/CI. Top-cited papers and keyword analyses were performed to highlight current hotspots in the domain. Using cluster analysis, we classified all keywords into four clusters: "immunotherapy," "co-stimulatory molecule," "B7 family," and "PD-L1." Finally, Trends analysis suggested that future research might focus on "chimeric antigen receptor," "pathways," and "targeting B7-H3." This is the first bibliometric crosstalk analysis between B7-H3 and CI. Our study illustrates that the topic of B7-H3/CI is very popular and has great clinical implications and that the number of correlative publications will continue to increase. B7-H3-based CI may lead to new research trends.

Abstract:Background Pancreatic stellate cells (PSCs) play crucial roles in acute/chronic pancreatitis and pancreatic cancer. In this study, bibliometric analysis was used to quantitatively and qualitatively analyze the literature related to PSCs from 1998-2021 to summarize the current trends and research topics in this field. Methods Relevant literature data were downloaded from the Science Citation Index Expanded Web of Science Core Collection (WoSCC) on April 07, 2021, using Clarivate Analytics. Biblioshiny R packages, VOSviewer, Citespace, BICOMB, gCLUTO, and the Online Analysis Platform of Literature Metrology ( http://bibliometric.com ) were used to analyze the manually selected data. Results A total of 958 relevant studies published in 48 countries or regions were identified. The United States of America (USA) had the highest number of publications, followed by the People’s Republic of China, Germany, and Japan. Tohoku University (Japan), the University of New South Wales (Australia), the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center (USA), Technical University of Munich (Germany), and University of Rostock (Germany) were the top five institutions with most publications. Nine major clusters were generated using reference co-citation analysis. Keyword burst detection revealed that progression (2016-2021), microenvironment (2016-2021), and tumor microenvironment (2017-2021) were the current frontier keywords. Biclustering analysis identified five research hotspots in the field of PSCs during 1998-2021. Conclusion In this study, a scientometric analysis of 958 original documents related to PSCs showed that the research topics of these studies are likely in the transition from acute/chronic pancreatitis to pancreatic cancer. The current research trends regarding PSCs are related to pancreatic cancer, such as tumor microenvironment. This study summarizes five research hotspots in the field of PSCs between 1998 and 2021 and thus may provide insights for future research.
