Abstract:We study the relation between the coefficients of Taylor series and Kapteyn series representing the same function. We compute explicit formulas for expressing one in terms of the other and give examples to illustrate our method.

Abstract:An analogue of Taylor's formula, which arises by substituting the classical derivative by a divided difference operator of Askey-Wilson type, is developed here. We study the convergence of the associated Taylor series. Our results complement a recent work by Ismail and Stanton. Quite surprisingly, in some cases the Taylor polynomials converge to a function which differs from the original one. We provide explicit expressions for the integral remainder. As application, we obtain some summation formulas for basic hypergeometric series. As far as we know, one of them is new. We conclude by studying the different forms of the binomial theorem in this context.

Non-vanishing of Taylor coefficients and Poincaré series

Abstract:We prove recursive formulas for the Taylor coefficients of cusp forms, such as Ramanujan's Delta function, at points in the upper half-plane. This allows us to show the non-vanishing of all Taylor coefficients of Delta at CM points of small discriminant as well as the non-vanishing of certain Poincaré series. At a "generic" point all Taylor coefficients are shown to be non-zero. Some conjectures on the Taylor coefficients of Delta at CM points are stated.

Abstract:This paper derives a way to express differentiable complex-valued functions as the sum of powers of $(1-e^{\lambda x})$, where $\lambda\in\mathbb{R}$, with an explicit formula for the remainder. This formulation is then used to associate an infinite series to $C^\infty$ functions, which is shown to recover the original function under suitable conditions on the remainder. These results are also used to calculate some infinite series involving Stirling Numbers, as well as providing a few examples.

Abstract:We investigate the mathematical properties of the function , ε ∈ [−1, 1], which is a special Kapteyn series of the first kind. Unlike various other special Kapteyn series, the function T ( ε ) does not seem to possess a closed-form expression. We derive an integral representation for T ( ε ) from which various properties of T ( ε ) can be established. In particular, monotonicity and convexity properties of T ( ε ) and ε− 1 T ( ε ) can be shown. Also, the behaviour of T ( ε ) as ε ↑ 1 can be determined from the integral representation. Furthermore, while the Kapteyn series representation of T ( ε ) is very slowly convergent when ε is close to ±1, a regularized form of the integral representation of T ( ε ) allows to compute T ( ε ) accurately using Simpson's rule with relatively few sample points of the involved integrand.

Abstract:We prove a formula for the Taylor series coefficients of a zero of the sum of a complex-exponent polynomial and a base function which is a general holomorphic function with a simple zero. Such a Taylor series is more general than a Puiseux series. We prove an integrality result about these coefficients which implies and generalizes the integrality result of Sturmfels ("Solving algebraic equations in terms of $\mathcal{A}$-hypergeometric series". Discrete Math. 210 (2000) pp. 171-181). We also prove a transformation rule for a special case of these Taylor series.

Abstract:A simple version for the extension of the Taylor theorem to the operator functions was found. The expansion was done with respect to a value given by a diagonal matrix for the non-commutative case, and the coefficients are given both by recurrence relations and Cauchy integrals.

Abstract:It is known that there exist functions in certain de Branges--Rovnyak spaces whose Taylor series diverge in norm, even though polynomials are dense in the space. This is often proved by showing that the sequence of Taylor partial sums is unbounded in norm. In this note we show that it can even happen that the Taylor partial sums tend to infinity in norm. We also establish similar results for lower-triangular summability methods such as the Cesàro means.

Abstract:Taylor series is a useful mathematical tool when describing and constructing a function. With the series representation, some properties of fractional calculus can be revealed clearly. This paper investigates two typical applications: Lebiniz rule and Laplace transform. It is analytically shown that the commonly used Leibniz rule cannot be applied for Caputo derivative. Similarly, the well-known Laplace transform of Riemann-Liouville derivative is doubtful for n-th continuously differentiable function. By the aid of this series representation, the exact formula of Caputo Leibniz rule and the explanation of Riemann-Liouville Laplace transform are presented. Finally, three illustrative examples are revisited to confirm the obtained results.

Abstract:We compare and discuss the respective efficiency of three methods (with two variants for each of them), based respectively on Taylor (Maclaurin) series, Padé approximants and conformal mappings, for solving quasi-analytically a two-point boundary value problem of a nonlinear ordinary differential equation (ODE). Six configurations of ODE and boundary conditions are successively considered according to the increasing difficulties that they present. After having indicated that the Taylor series method almost always requires the recourse to analytical continuation procedures to be efficient, we use the complementarity of the two remaining methods (Padé and conformal mapping) to illustrate their respective advantages and limitations. We emphasize the importance of the existence of solutions with movable singularities for the efficiency of the methods, particularly for the so-called Padé-Hankel method. (We show that this latter method is equivalent to pushing a movable pole to infinity.) For each configuration, we determine the singularity distribution (in the complex plane of the independent variable) of the solution sought and show how this distribution controls the efficiency of the two methods. In general the method based on Padé approximants is easy to use and robust but may be awkward in some circumstances whereas the conformal mapping method is a very fine method which should be used when high accuracy is required.

Abstract:As in the polynomial case, non‐polynomial divided differences can be viewed as a discrete analog of derivatives. This link between non‐polynomial divided differences and derivatives is defined by a generalization of the derivative operator. In this study, we obtain a generalization of Taylor series using the link between non‐polynomial divided differences and derivatives, and state generalized Taylor theorem. With the definition of a definite integral, the relation between the non‐polynomial divided difference and non‐polynomial B‐spline functions is given in terms of integration. Also, we derive a general form of the Peano kernel theorem based on a generalized Taylor expansion with the integral remainder. As in the polynomial case, it is shown that the non‐polynomial B‐splines are in fact the Peano kernels of non‐polynomial divided differences.MSC2020 Classification: 65D05, 65D07

Abstract:A Taylor variety consists of all fixed order Taylor polynomials of rational functions, where the number of variables and degrees of numerators and denominators are fixed. In one variable, Taylor varieties are given by rank constraints on Hankel matrices. Inversion of the natural parametrization is known as Padé approximation. We study the dimension and defining ideals of Taylor varieties. Taylor hypersurfaces are interesting for projective geometry, since their Hessians tend to vanish. In three and more variables, there exist defective Taylor varieties whose dimension is smaller than the number of parameters. We explain this with Fröberg's Conjecture in commutative algebra.

Abstract:Power series with rational functions as coefficients are ubiquitous in mathematics, particularly so in number theory and mathematical physics. In this paper we introduce a class of such series that we call meandromorphic. Under appropriate Diophantine conditions this class is quasi-analytic i.e. elements are uniquely defined by their Taylor series at any point of a so-called residual set. Our theorems also explain geometrically the divergence of the Taylor series by the presence of accumulation points for the poles.

Abstract:In this paper we study the development in Taylor series of the function $f(x)=x^x$. First section establishes a recursive relationship among successive derivatives of the function by using the coefficients defined therein. From recursion between the derivatives you get one general description of them (section 2). Finally, section 3 has the main result, the expansion series. Section 4 deals with the coefficients: characterization, their relationship with rencontre numbers and their emergence as coefficients in certain polynomial families. The specific use of some of these polynomials allows eventually go deeper in the description of the series.

Abstract:We establish a new generalized Taylor's formula for power fractional derivatives with nonsingular and nonlocal kernels, which includes many known Taylor's formulas in the literature. Moreover, as a consequence, we obtain a general version of the classical mean value theorem. We apply our main result to approximate functions in Taylor's expansions at a given point. The explicit interpolation error is also obtained. The new results are illustrated through examples and numerical simulations.

Abstract:We prove a new Taylor's theorem for generalized weighted fractional calculus with nonsingular kernels. The proof is based on the establishment of new relations for nth-weighted generalized fractional integrals and derivatives. As an application, new mean value theorems for generalized weighted fractional operators are obtained. Direct corollaries allow one to obtain the recent Taylor's and mean value theorems for Caputo–Fabrizio, Atangana–Baleanu–Caputo (ABC) and weighted ABC derivatives.

Abstract:Pointwise-supported generalized wavelets are introduced, based on Dirac, doublet and further derivatives of delta. A generalized biorthogonal analysis leads to standard Taylor series and new Dual-Taylor series that may be interpreted as Laurent Schwartz distributions. A Parseval-like identity is also derived for Taylor series, showing that Taylor series support an energy theorem. New representations for signals called derivagrams are introduced, which are similar to spectrograms. This approach corroborates the impact of wavelets in modern signal analysis.
