Abstract:In this paper, we first prove the strong Birkhoff Ergodic Theorem for subharmonic functions with the irrational shift on the Torus. Then, we apply it to the analytic quasi-periodic Jacobi cocycles and show that for suitable frequency and coupling number, if the Lyapunov exponent of these cocycles is positive at one point, then it is positive on an interval centered at this point and Hölder continuous in \begin{document}$ E $\end{document} on this interval. What's more, if the coupling number of the potential is large, then the Lyapunov exponent is always positive for all irrational frequencies and Hölder continuous in \begin{document}$ E $\end{document} for all finite Liouville frequencies. For the Schrödinger cocycles, a special case of the Jacobi ones, its Lyapunov exponent is also Hölder continuous in the frequency and the lengths of the intervals where the Hölder condition of the Lyapunov exponent holds only depend on the coupling number.
Pointwise ergodic theorems along fractional powers of primes

Abstract:We establish pointwise convergence for nonconventional ergodic averages taken along $\lfloor p^c\rfloor$, where $p$ is a prime number and $c\in(1,4/3)$ on $L^r$, $r\in(1,\infty)$. In fact, we consider averages along more general sequences $\lfloor h(p)\rfloor$, where $h$ belongs in a wide class of functions, the so-called $c$-regularly varying functions. We also establish uniform multiparameter oscillation estimates for our ergodic averages and the corresponding multiparameter pointwise ergodic theorem in the spirit of Dunford and Zygmund. A key ingredient of our approach are certain exponential sum estimates, which we also use for establishing a Waring-type result. Assuming that the Riemann zeta function has any zero-free strip upgrades our exponential sum estimates to polynomially saving ones and this makes a conditional result regarding the behavior of our ergodic averages on $L^1$ to not seem entirely out of reach.

Abstract:We prove a pointwise ergodic theorem for quasi-probability-measure-preserving (quasi-pmp) locally countable measurable graphs, equivalently, Schreier graphs of quasi-pmp actions of countable groups. For ergodic graphs, the theorem gives an increasing sequence of Borel subgraphs with finite connected components over which the averages of any $L^1$ function converges to its expectation. This implies that every (not necessarily pmp) locally countable ergodic Borel graph on a standard probability space contains an ergodic hyperfinite subgraph. A consequence of this is that every ergodic treeable equivalence relation has an ergodic hyperfinite free factor. The pmp case of the main theorem was first proven by R. Tucker-Drob using a deep result from probability theory. Our proof is different: it is self-contained and applies more generally to quasi-pmp graphs. Among other things, it involves introducing a graph invariant concerning asymptotic averages of functions and a method of tiling a large part of the space with finite sets with prescribed properties. The non-pmp setting additionally exploits a new quasi-order called visibility to analyze the interplay between the Radon--Nikodym cocycle and the graph structure, providing a sufficient condition for hyperfiniteness.

Abstract:In the framework of infinite ergodic theory, we derive equidistribution results for suitable weighted sequences of cusp points of Hecke triangle groups encoded by group elements of constant word length with respect to a set of natural generators. This is a generalization of the corresponding results for the modular group, for which we rely on advanced results from infinite ergodic theory and transfer operator techniques developed for AFN-maps.

Abstract:The Jewett–Krieger theorem states that each ergodic system has a strictly ergodic topological model. In this article, we show that for an ergodic system one may require more properties on its strictly ergodic model. For example, the orbit closure of points in diagonal under face transforms may be also strictly ergodic. As an application, we show the pointwise convergence of ergodic averages along cubes, which was firstly proved by Assani (J Anal Math 110:241–269, 2010).
Convergence of noncommutative spherical averages for actions of free groups

Abstract:In this article, we extend the Bufetov pointwise ergodic theorem for spherical averages of even radius for free group actions on noncommutative $L\log L$-space. Indeed, we extend it to more general Orlicz space $L^\Phi(M, \tau)$ (noncommutative/classical), where $M$ is the semifinite von Neumann algebra with faithful normal semifinite trace $\tau$ and $\Phi: [0, \infty ) $ is a Orlicz function such that $ [0, \infty ) \ni t \rightarrow \left({\Phi(t)}\right)^{ \frac{1}{p}}$ is convex for some $p >1$. To establish this convergence we follow similar approach as Bufetov and Anantharaman-Delaroche. Thus, additionally we obtain Rota theorem on the same noncommutative Orlicz space by extending the earlier work of Anantharaman-Delaroche. Anantharaman-Delaroche proved Rota theorem for noncommutative $L^p$-spaces for $p >1$, and mentioned as ``interesting open problem'' to extend it to noncommutative $L\log L$-space as classical case. In the end we also look at the convergence of averages of spherical averages associated to free group and free semigroup actions on noncommutative spaces.

Pointwise Convergence of Ergodic Averages Along Hardy Field Sequences

Abstract:Let $(X,\mu)$ be an arbitrary measure space equipped with a family of pairwise commuting measure preserving transformations $T_1, \dotsc, T_m$. We prove that the ergodic averages \[ A_{N;X}^{P_1, \dotsc, P_m}f = \frac{1}{N} \sum_{n=1}^N T_1^{\lfloor P_1(n) \rfloor} \dotsm T_m^{\lfloor P_m(n) \rfloor} f \] converge pointwise $\mu$-almost everywhere as $N \to \infty$ for any $f \in L^p(X)$ with $p>1$, where $P_1, \dotsc, P_m$ are Hardy field functions which are "non-polynomial" and have distinct growth rates. To establish pointwise convergence we will prove a long-variational inequality, which will in turn prove that a maximal inequality holds for our averages. Additionally, by restricting the class of Hardy field functions to those with the same growth rate as $t^c$ for $c>0$ non-integer, we also prove full variational estimates. We are therefore able to provide quantitative bounds on the rate of convergence of exponential sums of the form \[ \frac{1}{N} \sum_{n=1}^N e(\xi_1 \lfloor n^{c_1} \rfloor + \dotsb + \lfloor n^{c_m} \rfloor) \] where $0<c_1<\dotsb<c_m$ are non-integer.

Abstract:We prove a multidimensional ergodic theorem with weighted averages for the action of the group $\mathbb{Z}^d$ on a probability space. At level $n$ weights are of the form $n^{-d} \psi(j/n)$, $ j\in \mathbb{Z}^d$, for real functions $\psi$ decaying suitably fast. We discuss applications to random measures and to quenched stochastic homogenization of random walks (RWs) on simple point processes with long-range random jump rates, allowing to remove the technical Assumption (A9) from \cite[Theorem~4.4]{Fhom1}. This last result concerns also some semigroup and resolvent convergence particularly relevant for the derivation of the quenched hydrodynamic limit of interacting particle systems (IPSs) via homogenization and duality. As a consequence we show that also the quenched hydrodynamic limit of the symmetric simple exclusion process on point processes stated in \cite[Theorem~4.1]{F_SEP} remains valid when removing the above mentioned Assumption (A9).

Abstract: The well-known Jewett-Krieger's Theorem states that each ergodic system has a strictly ergodic model. Strengthening the model by requiring that it is strictly ergodic under some group actions, and building the connection of the new model with the convergence of pointwise non-conventional ergodic averages we prove that for an ergodic system $(X,\X,\mu, T)$, $d\in\N$, $f_1, \ldots, f_d \in L^{\infty}(\mu)$, %and any tempered F{\rm ${\o}$}lner sequence $F_n$ of $\Z^2$, the averages \begin{equation*} \frac{1}{N^2} \sum_{(n,m)\in F_N} f_1(T^nx)f_2(T^{n+m}x)\ldots f_d(T^{n+(d-1)m}x) \end{equation*} converge $\mu$ a.e. We remark that the same method can be used to show the pointwise convergence of ergodic averages along cubes which was firstly proved by Assani and then extended to a general case by Chu and Franzikinakis.

Abstract:We discuss the Pointwise Ergodic Theorem for the Gaussian divisor function $d(n)$, that is, for a measure preserving $\mathbb Z[i]$ action $T$, the limit $$\lim_{N\rightarrow \infty} \frac{1}{D(N)} \sum _{\mathscr{N} (n) \leq N} d(n) \,f(T^n x) $$ converges for every $f\in L^p$, where $\mathscr{N} (n) = n \bar{n}$, and $D(N) = \sum _{\mathscr{N} (n) \leq N} d(n) $, and $1<p\leq \infty$. To do so we study the averages $$ A_N f (x) = \frac{1}{D(N)} \sum _{\mathscr{N} (n) \leq N} d(n) \,f(x-n) ,$$ and obtain improving and weighted maximal inequalities for our operator, in the process.

Ergodic averages for sparse sequences along primes

Abstract:We investigate the limiting behavior of multiple ergodic averages along sparse sequences evaluated at prime numbers. Our sequences arise from smooth and well-behaved functions that have polynomial growth. Central to this topic is a comparison result between standard Cesáro averages along positive integers and averages weighted by the (modified) von Mangoldt function. The main ingredients are a recent result of Matomäki, Shao, Tao and Teräväinen on the Gowers uniformity of the latter function in short intervals, a lifting argument that allows one to pass from actions of integers to flows, a simultaneous (variable) polynomial approximation in appropriate short intervals, and some quantitative equidistribution results for the former polynomials. We derive numerous applications in multiple recurrence, additive combinatorics, and equidistribution in nilmanifolds along primes. In particular, we deduce that any set of positive density contains arithmetic progressions with step $\lfloor p^c \rfloor$, where $c$ is a positive non-integer and $p$ denotes a prime, establishing a conjecture of Frantzikinakis.

Abstract:We prove a pointwise convergence result for additive ergodic averages associated with certain multiplicative actions of the Gaussian integers. We derive several applications in dynamics and number theory, including: (i) Wirsing's theorem for Gaussian integers: if $f\colon \mathbb{G} \to \mathbb{R}$ is a bounded completely multiplicative function, then the following limit exists: $$\lim_{N \to \infty} \frac{1}{N^2} \sum_{1 \leq m, n \leq N} f(m + {\rm i} n).$$ (ii) An answer to a special case of a question of Frantzikinakis and Host: for any completely multiplicative real-valued function $f: \mathbb{N} \to \mathbb{R}$, the following limit exists: $$\lim_{N \to \infty} \frac{1}{N^2} \sum_{1 \leq m, n \leq N} f(m^2 + n^2).$$ (iii) A variant of a theorem of Bergelson and Richter on ergodic averages along the $\Omega$ function: if $(X,T)$ is a uniquely ergodic system with unique invariant measure $\mu$, then for any $x\in X$ and $f\in C(X)$, $$\lim_{N\to\infty}\frac{1}{N^2}\sum_{1 \leq m, n \leq N} f(T^{\Omega(m^2 + n^2)}x)=\int_Xf \ d\mu.$$

Abstract:In this paper, we study the dynamics of geodesics of Fuchsian meromorphic connections with real periods, giving a precise characterization of the possible $\omega$-limit sets of simple geodesics in this case. The main tools are the study of the singular flat metric associated to the meromorphic connection, an explicit description of the geodesics nearby a Fuchsian pole with real residue larger than $-1$ and a far-reaching generalization to our case of the classical Teichmüller lemma for quadratic differentials.

Abstract:Under certain conditions, we construct a countable Markov partition for pointwise hyperbolic diffeomorphism on an open invariant subset , which allows the Lyapunov exponents to be zero. From this partition, we define a symbolic extension that is finite-to-one and onto a subset of O that carries the same finite f-invariant measures as O. Our method relies upon shadowing theory of a recurrent-pointwise-pseudo-orbit that we introduce. As a canonical application, we estimate the number of closed orbits for f.

Abstract:This paper studies a version of the counting problem in dynamical systems that is of interest, especially in conformal dynamical systems where the functions of the systems are angle preserving. Recently, M. Pollicott and M. Urbański published a result in this context for D-generic systems where the complex transfer operator behaves nicely on the critical line of the Poincaré series. Their result contains an asymptotic formula for the Apollonian circle packing. We lift the D-generic condition and conformality of the functions system in this paper to see how their asymptotic formula changes. We use some recent Tauberian theorem to show that the formula gets a form whose limit infimum and limit supremum bounds can be obtained in the sharpest sense. Further, we observed an asymptotic of length closely related to this counting problem. In fact, not only the number of words is subject to some formula, but also their length as well.
