Abstract:In [2], <a class="link-external link-http" href="http://N.Dutertre" rel="external noopener nofollow">this http URL</a> and T. Fukui used Viro's integral calculus to study the topology of stable maps $f:M\rightarrow N$ between two smooth manifolds $M$ and $N$. They also discussed several applications to Morin maps. In particular, in Theorem 6.2 [2], they show an equality relating the Euler characteristic of a compact manifold $M$ and the Euler characteristic of the singular sets of a Morin map defined on $M$. In this paper we show how Morse theory for manifolds with boundary can be applied to the study of the singular sets of a Morin map in order to obtain a new proof of Dutertre-Fukui's Theorem when $N=\mathbb{R}^n$.

Computing Topological Invariants Using Fixed Points

Abstract:When a torus acts on a compact oriented manifold with isolated fixed points, the equivariant localization formula of Atiyah--Bott and Berline--Vergne converts the integral of an equivariantly closed form into a finite sum over the fixed points of the action, thus providing a powerful tool for computing integrals on a manifold. An integral can also be viewed as a pushforward map from a manifold to a point, and in this guise it is intimately related to the Gysin homomorphism. This article highlights two applications of the equivariant localization formula. We show how to use it to compute characteristic numbers of a homogeneous space and to derive a formula for the Gysin map of a fiber bundle.

Super quantum cohomology I: Super stable maps of genus zero with Neveu-Schwarz punctures

Abstract: In this article we define stable supercurves and super stable maps of genus zero via labeled trees. We prove that the moduli space of stable supercurves and super stable maps of fixed tree type are quotient superorbifolds. To this end, we prove a slice theorem for the action of super Lie groups on supermanifolds with finite isotropy groups and discuss superorbifolds. Furthermore, we propose a generalization of Gromov convergence to super stable maps such that the restriction to fixed tree type yields the quotient topology from the superorbifold and the reduction is compact. This would, possibly, lead to the notions of super Gromov-Witten invariants and small super quantum cohomology to be discussed in sequels.

Abstract:In this article, we study integrals on the unitary group with respect to the Haar measure. We give a combinatorial interpretation in terms of maps of the asymptotic topological expansion, established previously by Guionnet and Novak. The maps we introduce -- the maps of unitary type -- satisfy Tutte like equations. It allows us to show that in the perturbative regime they describe the different orders of the asymptotic topological expansion. Furthermore, they generalize the monotone Hurwitz numbers.

Abstract:The theory of the topological vertex was originally proposed by Aganagic, Klemm, Mariño and Vafa as a means to calculate open Gromov-Witten invariants of toric Calabi-Yau threefolds. In this paper, we place the topological vertex within the context of relative Gromov-Witten invariants of log Calabi-Yau manifolds and describe how these invariants can be effectively computed via a gluing formula for the enumeration of tropical curves in a singular integral affine space. This richer context allows us to prove that the topological vertex possesses certain tropical symmetries. These symmetries are captured by the action of a quantum torus Lie algebra that is related to a quantisation of the Lie algebra of the tropical vertex group of Gross, Pandharipande and Siebert. Finally, we demonstrate how this algebra of symmetries leads to an explicit description of the topological vertex and related Gromov-Witten invariants.

Abstract:Detailed structures of vortices on a torus are discovered by performing an analytic method to calculate the vortex number. We focus on analytic vortex solutions to the Chern-Simons-Higgs theory, whose governing equation is the so-called Jackiw-Pi equation. The equation is one of the integrable vortex equations and is reduced to Liouville's equation. The requirement of continuity of the Higgs field strongly restricts the characteristics and the fundamental domain of the vortices. Also considered are the decompactification limits of the vortices on a torus, in which "flux loss" phenomena occasionally occur.

Abstract:For a smooth Morse-Smale vector field with Lyapunov constraints (Lyapunov function) one shows how and why the non-triviality of the cohomology, as concluded from its additive structure, detects rest points and the multiplicative structure of the cohomology detects instantons (trajectories between rest points). The same remains true for Lyapunov closed one form, a more general Lyapunov constraint, but in this presentation this fact is discussed only informally. These observations are based on the smooth " manifold with corner structures" of the stable/unstable sets and of the set of trajectories of such vector fields. (This paper is a written version of two talks with the same title given at IMAR Bucharest in November 2023.)

Abstract:In this manuscript, we investigate a Cartan calculus on the homology of free loop spaces which is introduced by Kuribayashi, Wakatsuki, Yamaguchi and the author. In particular, it is proved that the Cartan calculus can be described by the loop product and bracket in string topology. Moreover, by using the descriptions, we show that the loop product behaves well with respect to the Hodge decomposition of the homology of free loop spaces.

Abstract:We define and develop a homotopy invariant notion for the topological complexity of a map f:X→Y, denoted TC(f), that interacts with TC(X) and TC(Y) in the same way cat(f) interacts with cat(X) and cat(Y). Furthermore, TC(f) and cat(f) satisfy the same inequalities as TC(X) and cat(X). We compare it to other invariants defined in the papers [15], [16], [17], [18], [20]. We apply TC(f) to studying group homomorphisms f:H→G.

Spin diffusion in doped semiconductors

Abstract:The behavior of spin diffusion in doped semiconductors is shown to be qualitatively different than in undoped (intrinsic) ones. Whereas a spin packet in an intrinsic semiconductor must be a multiple-band disturbance, involving inhomogeneous distributions of both electrons and holes, in a doped semiconductor a single-band disturbance is possible. For n-doped nonmagnetic semiconductors the enhancement of diffusion due to a degenerate electron sea in the conduction band is much larger for these single-band spin packets than for charge packets, and can exceed an order of magnitude at low temperatures even for equilibrium dopings as small as 10^16 cm^-3. In n-doped ferromagnetic and semimagnetic semiconductors the motion of spin packets polarized antiparallel to the equilibrium carrier spin polarization is predicted to be an order of magnitude faster than for parallel polarized spin packets. These results are reversed for p-doped semiconductors.

Abstract:The non-equivariant topology of Stiefel manifolds has been studied extensively, culminating in a result of Miller demonstrating that a Stiefel manifold splits stably to a wedge of Thom spaces over Grassmannians. Equivariantly, one can consider spaces of isometries between representations as an analogue to Stiefel manifolds. This concept, however, yields a different theory to the non-equivariant case. We first construct a variation on the theory of the functional calculus before studying the homotopy-theoretic properties of this theory. This allows us to construct the main result; a natural tower of G-spectra running down from equivariant isometries which manifests the pieces of the non-equivariant splitting in the form of the homotopy cofibres of the tower. Furthermore, we detail extra topological properties and special cases of this theory, developing explicit expressions covering the tower's geometric and topological structure. We conclude with two detailed conjectures which provide an avenue for future study. Firstly we explore how our theory interacts with the splitting of Miller, proving partial results linking in our work with Miller's and conjecturing even deeper connections. Finally, we begin to calculate the equivariant K-theory of the tower, conjecturing and providing evidence towards the idea that the rich topological structure will be mirrored on the K-theory level by a similarly deep algebraic structure.

We show that it is metrizable, totally disconnected, and (Z,+,.) is a topological ring with respect to this topology. As an application, we show that any two disjoint sets of primes can be separated by arithmetic progressions.

Abstract:We consider analytic maps and vector fields defined in $\mathbb{R}^2 \times \mathbb{T}^d$, having a $d$-dimensional invariant torus $\mathcal{T}$. The map (resp. vector field) restricted to $\mathcal{T}$ defines a rotation of frequency $\omega$, and its derivative restricted to transversal directions to $\mathcal{T}$ does not diagonalize. In this context, we give conditions on the coefficients of the nonlinear terms of the map (resp. vector field) under which $\mathcal{T}$ possesses stable and unstable invariant manifolds, and we show that such invariant manifolds are analyitic away from the invariant torus. We also provide effective algorithms to compute approximations of parameterizations of the invariant manifolds, and present some applications of the results.

Abstract:In this paper, we give a complete topological and smooth classification of non-invertible Anosov maps on torus. We show that two non-invertible Anosov maps on torus are topologically conjugate if and only if their corresponding periodic points have the same Lyapunov exponents on the stable bundles. As a corollary, if two $C^r$ non-invertible Anosov maps on torus are topologically conjugate, then the conjugacy is $C^r$-smooth along the stable foliation. Moreover, we show that the smooth conjugacy class of a non-invertible Anosov map on torus is completely determined by the Jacobians of return maps at periodic points.

Abstract:On a normal projective variety the locus of $\mu$-stable bundles that remain $\mu$-stable on all Galois covers prime to the characteristic is open in the moduli space of Gieseker semi-stable sheaves. On a smooth projective curve of genus at least 2 this locus is big in the moduli space of stable bundles, i.e., its complement has codimension at least 2.
