Abstract:Using the algebraic classification of all $2$-dimensional algebras, we give the algebraic classification of all $2$-dimensional rigid, conservative and terminal algebras over an algebraically closed field of characteristic 0. We have the geometric classification of the variety of $2$-dimensional terminal algebras, and based on the geometric classification of these algebras we formulate some open problems.
Towards a classification of entanglements of Galois representations attached to elliptic curves

Abstract:Let $E/\mathbb{Q}$ be an elliptic curve, let $\overline{\mathbb{Q}}$ be a fixed algebraic closure of $\mathbb{Q}$, and let $G_{\mathbb{Q}}=\text{Gal}(\overline{\mathbb{Q}}/\mathbb{Q})$ be the absolute Galois group of $\mathbb{Q}$. The action of $G_{\mathbb{Q}}$ on the adelic Tate module of $E$ induces the adelic Galois representation $\rho_E\colon G_{\mathbb{Q}} \to \text{GL}(2,\widehat{\mathbb{Z}}).$ The goal of this paper is to explain how the image of $\rho_E$ can be smaller than expected. To this end, we offer a group theoretic categorization of different ways in which an entanglement between division fields can be explained and prove several results on elliptic curves (and more generally, principally polarized abelian varieties) over $\mathbb{Q}$ where the entanglement occurs over an abelian extension.

Abstract:Let $L/K$ be any finite Galois extension with Galois group $G$. It is known by Chase and Sweedler that the Hopf--Galois correspondence is injective for every Hopf--Galois structure on $L/K$, but it need not be bijective in general. Hopf--Galois structures are known to be related to skew braces, and recently, the first-named author and Trappeniers proposed a new version of this connection with the property that the intermediate fields of $L/K$ in the image of the Hopf--Galois correspondence are in bijection with the left ideals of the associated skew brace. As an application, they classified the groups $G$ for which the Hopf--Galois correspondence is bijective for every Hopf--Galois structure on any $G$-Galois extension. In this paper, using a similar approach, we shall classify the groups $N$ for which the Hopf--Galois correspondence is bijective for every Hopf--Galois structure of type $N$ on any Galois extension.

Abstract:Using a variety of methods developed in the theory of finite-dimensional quasi-Hopf algebras, we classify all finite-dimensional coradically graded pointed coquasi-Hopf algebras over abelian groups. As a consequence, we partially confirm the generation conjecture of pointed finite tensor categories due to Etingof, Gelaki, Nikshych and Ostrik.

The Star Formation History of the Blue Compact Dwarf Galaxy UGCA 290

Abstract:We present the star formation history of UGCA 290, a galaxy with properties intermediate between Blue Compact Dwarfs and Dwarf Irregulars. This galaxy is particularly interesting because its young stellar population is extremely similar to that of the well-studied type iE Blue Compact Dwarf VII Zw 403, despite its different spatial morphology and old stellar content. Our Hubble Space Telescope/Wide Field Planetary Camera 2 single-star photometry for UGCA 290 extends over nine magnitudes in I, and allows a detailed study of its star formation history. Using synthetic color-magnitude diagrams, we show that the recent "burst" which gives this galaxy its BCD status is a moderate enhancement in star formation which lasted for approximately 20 Myr, at a rate about ten times above its previous rate. The star formation history for most of the previous billion years is consistent with a constant rate, although enhancements as large as the current one are possible at times ealier than 400 Myr ago. We estimate that the total mass converted into stars in UGCA 290 more than one billion years ago is about three times the astrated mass since that time. The initial mass function is consistent with a Salpeter slope, and the stellar metallicity is bracketed by Z_sun/50 and Z_sun/5, with evidence for metallicity evolution. Similar results for the star formation history over the past 600 Myr apply to VII Zw 403. Our main result is that despite the traditional picture of BCDs, the current bursts in these two galaxies are neither remarkably intense nor short-lived, and that most of their star formation occured more than a billion years ago.

Abstract:Suppose $C$ is a cyclic Galois cover of the projective line branched at the three points $0$, $1$, and $\infty$. Under a mild condition on the ramification, we determine the structure of the graded Lie algebra of the lower central series of the fundamental group of $C$ in terms of a basis which is well-suited to studying the action of the absolute Galois group of $\mathbb{Q}$.

Abstract:We investigate the representation theory of domestic group schemes $\mathcal{G}$ over an algebraically closed field of characteristic $p > 2$. We present results about filtrations of induced modules, actions on support varieties, Clifford theory for certain group schemes and applications of Clifford theory for strongly group graded algebras to the structure of Auslander-Reiten quivers. The combination of these results leads to the classification of modules belonging to the principal blocks of the group algebra $k\mathcal{G}$.

Abstract:In this paper, the classical Galois theory to the H*-Galois case is developed. Let H be a semisimple and cosemisimple Hopf algebra over a field k, A a left H-module algebra, and A/A H a right H*-Galois extension. The authors prove that, if A H is a separable k-algebra, then for any right coideal subalgebra B of H, the B-invariants A B = {a ∈ A | b · a = ε(b)a, ∀b ∈ B} is a separable k-algebra. They also establish a Galois connection between right coideal subalgebras of H and separable subalgebras of A containing A H as in the classical case. The results are applied to the case H = (kG)* for a finite group G to get a Galois 1-1 correspondence.

Abstract:We classify division algebras that are principal Albert isotopes of cyclic Galois field extensions of degree $n>2$ up to isomorphisms. We achieve a "tight" classification when the cyclic Galois field extensions is cubic. The classification is "tight" in the sense that the list of algebras has features that make it easy to distinguish non-isomorphic ones. Rough classification results on regular algebras that are principal Albert isotopes of Galois $C_n$-algebras are obtained as well; the principal Albert isotopes of $C_3$-Galois algebras are again classified up to isomorphisms.

Abstract:For every number field and every Cartan Killing type, there is an associated split simple algebraic group. We examine whether the corresponding arithmetic subgroups are profinitely solitary so that the commensurability class of the profinite completion determines the commensurability class of the group among finitely generated residually finite groups. Assuming Grothendieck rigidity, we essentially solve the problem by Galois cohomological means.

Abstract:In this ongoing work, we extend to a class of well-behaved pre-special hyperfields the work of J. Miná\v c and Spira (\cite{minac1996witt}) that describes a (pro-2)-group of a field extension that encodes the quadratic form theory of a given field $F$: in \cite{adem1999cohomology} it is shown that its associated cohomology ring contains a copy of the cohomology ring of the field $F$. Our construction, a contravariant functor into the category of "pointed" pro-2-groups, is essentially given by generators and relations of profinite-2-groups. We prove that such profinite groups $\mbox{Gal}(F)$ encode the space of orders of the special group canonically associated to the hyperfield $F$ and provide a criterion to detect when $F$ is formally real or not.

Abstract:In this article we classify the irreducible representations of finite classical groups $G$ of Lie type of rank $\ell$ with dimension at most a constant proportional to $\ell^4$ according to whether $G$ is of type $A_{\ell}$ or not. The dimensions of those representations are explicitly computed by hand. We conclude the work by addressing certain cases of the inverse Galois problem via the foregoing classification.

Abstract:We consider the problem of classifying gradings by groups on a finite-dimensional algebra $A$ (with any number of multilinear operations) over an algebraically closed field. We introduce a class of gradings, which we call almost fine, such that every $G$-grading on $A$ is obtained from an almost fine grading on $A$ in an essentially unique way, which is not the case with fine gradings. For abelian groups, we give a method of obtaining all almost fine gradings if fine gradings are known. We apply these ideas to the case of semisimple Lie algebras in characteristic $0$: to any abelian group grading with nonzero identity component, we attach a (possibly nonreduced) root system and, in the simple case, construct an adapted grading by this root system.

The manuscript on hand provides more context to the results presented in the aforementioned work, identifies new classes of Gorenstein algebras, and explores their behaviour under standard operations like taking tensor products and tilting.

Abstract:A Hopf Galois structure on a finite field extension $L/K$ is a pair $(H,\mu)$, where $H$ is a finite cocommutative $K$-Hopf algebra and $\mu$ a Hopf action. In this paper we present a program written in the computational algebra system Magma which gives all Hopf Galois structures on separable field extensions of degree up to eleven and several properties of those. Besides, we exhibit several results on Hopf Galois structures inspired by the program output. We prove that if $(H,\mu)$ is an almost classically Hopf Galois structure, then it is the unique Hopf Galois structure with underlying Hopf algebra $H$, up to isomorphism. For $p$ an odd prime, we prove that a separable extension of degree $p^2$ may have only one type of Hopf Galois structure and determine those of cyclic type; we determine as well the Hopf Galois structures on separable extensions of degree $2p$. We highlight the richness of the results obtained for extensions of degree 8 by computing an explicit example and presenting some tables which summarizes these results.

Abstract:We discuss the classification of 2-solvable Frobenius Lie algebras. We prove that every 2-solvable Frobenius Lie algebra splits as a semidirect sum of an n-dimensional vector space V and an n-dimensional maximal Abelian subalgebra (MASA) of the full space of endomorphisms of V. We supply a complete classification of 2-solvable Frobenius Lie algebras corresponding to nonderogatory endomorphisms, as well as those given by maximal Abelian nilpotent subalgebras (MANS) of class 2, hence of Kravchuk signature (n-1,0,1). In low dimensions, we classify all 2-solvable Frobenius Lie algebras in general up to dimension 8. We correct and complete the classification list of MASAs of sl(4, R) by Winternitz and Zassenhaus. As a biproduct, we give a simple proof that every nonderogatory endormorphism of a real vector space admits a Jordan form and also provide a new characterization of Cartan subalgebras of sl(n, R).
