Abstract:The existence of a solution to the parabolic system with the fractional Laplacian (−Δ) α /2 , α > 0 is proven, this solution decays at different rates along different time sequences going to infinity. As an application, the existence of a solution to the generalized Navier-Stokes equations is proven, which decays at different rates along different time sequences going to infinity. The generalized Navier-Stokes equations are the equations resulting from replacing −Δ in the Navier-Stokes equations by (−Δ) m , m > 0. At last, a similar result for 3-D incompressible anisotropic Navier-Stokes system is obtained.

Chen, Y. Li, and R. Zhang ("A direct method of moving spheres on fractional order equations," J. Funct. Anal. , vol. 272, pp. 4131â€“4157, 2017). In the half space, we establish a Liouville type theorem without any assumption of integrability by combining the direct method of moving planes and moving spheres, which improves the result proved by W. Dai, Z. Liu, and G. Lu ("Liouville type theorems for PDE and IE systems involving fractional Laplacian on a half space," Potential Anal. , vol. 46, pp. 569â€“588, 2017).

Abstract:This article reviews several definitions of the fractional Laplace operator (-Delta)^{alpha/2} (0 < alpha < 2) in R^d, also known as the Riesz fractional derivative operator, as an operator on Lebesgue spaces L^p, on the space C_0 of continuous functions vanishing at infinity and on the space C_{bu} of bounded uniformly continuous functions. Among these definitions are ones involving singular integrals, semigroups of operators, Bochner's subordination and harmonic extensions. We collect and extend known results in order to prove that all these definitions agree: on each of the function spaces considered, the corresponding operators have common domain and they coincide on that common domain.

Abstract:In this paper we analyze the existence, uniqueness and regularity of the solution to the generalized, variable diffusivity, fractional Laplace equation on the unit disk in $\mathbb{R}^{2}$. For $\alpha$ the order of the differential operator, our results show that for the symmetric, positive definite, diffusivity matrix, $K(\mathbf{x})$, satisfying $\lambda_{m} \mathbf{v}^{T} \mathbf{v} \le \mathbf{v}^{T} K(\mathbf{x}) \mathbf{v} \le \lambda_{M} \mathbf{v}^{T} \mathbf{v}$, for all $\mathbf{v} \in \mathbb{R}^{2}$, $\mathbf{x} \in \Omega$, with $\lambda_{M} < \frac{\sqrt{\alpha (2 + \alpha)}}{(2 - \alpha)} \lambda_{m}$, the problem has a unique solution. The regularity of the solution is given in an appropriately weighted Sobolev space in terms of the regularity of the right hand side function and $K(\mathbf{x})$.

Abstract:We deal with the higher-order fractional Laplacians by two methods: the integral method and the system method. The former depends on the integral equation equivalent to the differential equation. The latter works directly on the differential equations. We first derive nonexistence of positive solutions, often known as the Liouville type theorem, for the integral and differential equations. Then through an delicate iteration, we show symmetry for positive solutions.

Abstract:In this paper, we first study the dual fractional parabolic equation \begin{equation*} \partial^\alpha_t u(x,t)+(-\Delta)^s u(x,t) = f(u(x,t))\ \ \mbox{in}\ \ B_1(0)\times\R , \end{equation*} subject to the vanishing exterior condition. We show that for each $t\in\R$, the positive bounded solution $u(\cdot,t)$ must be radially symmetric and strictly decreasing about the origin in the unit ball in $\R^n$. To overcome the challenges caused by the dual non-locality of the operator $\partial^\alpha_t+(-\Delta)^s$, some novel techniques were introduced. Then we establish the Liouville theorem for the homogeneous equation in the whole space \begin{equation*}\label{B} \partial^\alpha_t u(x,t)+(-\Delta)^s u(x,t) = 0\ \ \mbox{in}\ \ \R^n\times\R . \end{equation*} We first prove a maximum principle in unbounded domains for anti-symmetric functions to deduce that $u(x,t)$ must be constant with respect to $x.$ Then it suffices for us to establish the Liouville theorem for the Marchaud fractional equation \begin{equation*} \partial^\alpha_t u(t) = 0\ \ \mbox{in}\ \ \R . \end{equation*} To circumvent the difficulties arising from the nonlocal and one-sided nature of the operator $\partial_t^\alpha$, we bring in some new ideas and simpler approaches. Instead of disturbing the anti-symmetric function, we employ a perturbation technique directly on the solution $u(t)$ itself. This method provides a more concise and intuitive route to establish the Liouville theorem for one-sided operators $\partial_t^\alpha$, including even more general Marchaud time derivatives.

A Sharp Inequality of Hardy-Littlewood Type Via Derivatives

Abstract: In this paper we consider a generalized version of Carleman's inequality. An equivalent version of it states that $\|f\|_{A_\alpha^{2\alpha}}\leq\|f\|_{H^2}$, where $f$ is a holomorphic function and $\alpha>1$. If the norms $\|f\|_{A_\alpha^{2\alpha}}$ are decreasing in $\alpha$, then the inequality holds for $f$. For a dense set of functions, we calculate the derivative of the norms $\|f\|_{A_\alpha^{2\alpha}}$ in $\alpha$ and give sufficient conditions for this derivative to be non-positive. As an application, we prove the inequality for linear combinations of two reproducing kernels. Some numerical evidences are also provided.

Abstract:In this work, we study the higher differentiability of solutions to the inhomogeneous fractional $p$-Laplace equation under different regularity assumptions on the data. In the superquadratic case, we extend and sharpen several previous results, while in the subquadratic regime our results constitute completely novel developments even in the homogeneous case. In particular, in the local limit our results are consistent with well-known higher differentiability results for the standard inhomogeneous $p$-Laplace equation. All of our main results remain valid in the vectorial context of fractional $p$-Laplace systems.

Depending on the values of $\alpha,\beta$, we completely describe the existence and non-existence of positive solutions to (P). We construct a continuous threshold curve in the two-dimensional $(\alpha, \beta)$-plane, which separates the regions of the existence and non-existence of positive solutions. In addition, we prove that the first Dirichlet eigenfunctions of the fractional $p$-Laplace and fractional $q$-Laplace operators are linearly independent, which plays an essential role in the formation of the curve. Furthermore, we establish that every nonnegative solution of (P) is globally bounded.

The global existence of nonnegative solutions is obtained by combining the Galerkin approximations with the potential well theory. Then, by virtue of a differential inequality technique, we give a decay estimate of solutions.

Abstract:We define the fractional powers $L^s=(-a^{ij}(x)\partial_{ij})^s$, $0 < s < 1$, of nondivergence form elliptic operators $L=-a^{ij}(x)\partial_{ij}$ in bounded domains $\Omega\subset\mathbb{R}^n$, under minimal regularity assumptions on the coefficients $a^{ij}(x)$ and on the boundary $\partial\Omega$. We show that these fractional operators appear in several applications such as fractional Monge--Ampère equations, elasticity, and finance. The solution $u$ to the nonlocal Poisson problem $$\begin{cases} (-a^{ij}(x) \partial_{ij})^su = f&\hbox{in}~\Omega\\ u=0&\hbox{on}~\partial\Omega \end{cases}$$ is characterized by a local degenerate/singular extension problem. We develop the method of sliding paraboloids in the Monge--Ampère geometry and prove the interior Harnack inequality and Hölder estimates for solutions to the extension problem when the coefficients $a^{ij}(x)$ are bounded, measurable functions. This in turn implies the interior Harnack inequality and Hölder estimates for solutions $u$ to the fractional problem.

Abstract:We propose a novel and simple spectral method based on the semi-discrete Fourier transforms to discretize the fractional Laplacian $(-\Delta)^\frac{\alpha}{2}$. Numerical analysis and experiments are provided to study its performance. Our method has the same symbol $|\boldsymbol\xi|^\alpha$ as the fractional Laplacian $(-\Delta)^\frac{\alpha}{2}$ at the discrete level, and thus it can be viewed as the exact discrete analogue of the fractional Laplacian. This {\it unique feature} distinguishes our method from other existing methods for the fractional Laplacian. Note that our method is different from the Fourier pseudospectral methods in the literature which are usually limited to periodic boundary conditions (see Remark \ref{remark0}). Numerical analysis shows that our method can achieve a spectral accuracy. The stability and convergence of our method in solving the fractional Poisson equations were analyzed. Our scheme yields a multilevel Toeplitz stiffness matrix, and thus fast algorithms can be developed for efficient matrix-vector multiplications. The computational complexity is ${\mathcal O}(2N\log(2N))$, and the memory storage is ${\mathcal O}(N)$ with $N$ the total number of points. Extensive numerical experiments verify our analytical results and demonstrate the effectiveness of our method in solving various problems.

Abstract:We consider the Dirichlet eigenvalues of the fractional Laplacian $(-\Delta)^s$, with $s\in (0,1)$, related to a smooth bounded domain $\Omega$. We prove that there exists an arbitrarily small perturbation $\tilde\Omega=(I+\psi)(\Omega)$ of the original domain such that all Dirichlet eigenvalues of the fractional Laplacian associated to $\tilde\Omega$ are simple. As a consequence we obtain that all Dirichlet eigenvalues of the fractional Laplacian on an interval are simple. In addition, we prove that for a generic choice of parameters all the eigenvalues of some non-local operators are also simple.
