Abstract:The development of supranational and national legislation, standardization requirements and the expansion of producer responsibility have led to the formation of a new approach for the goal-setting of enterprises with a focus not only on purely commercial goals of the short-term period, but on long-term sustainability. This is how the concept of ESG principles of the enterprise was formed, which focuses the company on high efficiency of corporate governance along with the achievement of social and environmental goals of doing business. However, the institutional environment for the effective implementation of ESG practices is at the stage of formation, so there are opportunities for additional risks and threats, among which greenwashing and ESG rating errors stand out due to the lack of standardization and uniform criteria for evaluating companies, green financing errors and the emergence of a financial bubble and other risks. The goal is to systematize the benefits of ESG transformation of companies to ensure sustainability and economic efficiency, analyze the green finance market as a key link in the transformation of sustainable initiatives into real economic benefits, analyze the risks of non-acceptance and manipulation of ESG factors for the sustainable development of companies. Methods and tools of institutional, sectoral analysis and strategic management, theoretical approaches within the framework of the concept of sustainable development, circular and carbon neutral economy were used. Results and scope of their application. The results of this study can be used by enterprises in the implementation of ESG principles and non-financial reporting on environmental, social and managerial risk management, by public authorities in the development of long-term sustainable development strategies and the formation of an institutional environment to achieve climate neutrality, implement energy transition, and ensure the long-term competitiveness of Russian companies in conditions of increasing global threats and the tightening of national and supranational legislation.

Abstract:The relevance of the study is due to the fact that currently one of the trends is the introduction of ESG principles in the business models of corporations in both the financial and non-financial sectors of the economy. Business adaptation to the principles of environmental (E), social (S) and corporate (G) responsibility, i.e. ESG-transformation, is focused on the formation of a responsible attitude of organizations to the preservation and protection of the environment; increasing their social responsibility; high-quality corporate governance. The ESG criteria serve as the basis for compiling various ratings. The participation of businesses in ESG ratings only confirms their commitment to the concept of sustainable development and is very important because it increases their reputation and image. The subject of the study is the process of ESG transformation of Russian companies. The purpose of the work is to study the ESG approach to the activities of Russian companies. The sources of information were publications of Russian and foreign scientists in the field of ESG, analytical materials of various rating agencies. Within the framework of the study, the main directions of ESG transformation of the world economy and priority industries for ensuring sustainable development of the Russian economy are considered; the content of ESG factors is disclosed; the analysis of the positions of Russian companies in ESG ratings is carried out. It is concluded that the implementation of ESG principles by companies in the Russian Federation is at an initial stage.

Abstract:The article examines the processes developing in the global economy, reflecting the transition to environmental friendliness (E), social responsibility (S) and high-quality corporate governance (G) and signifying the transformation of the financial market into the format of “sustainable financing”. The purpose of the article is the systematization of ideas about ESG transition and sustainable finance. The article examines the evolution of ESG, reveals the essence of ESG criteria in investment decisions, analyzes the most significant aspects characterizing the impact of ESG transition on the global economy and finance, assesses the readiness of the banking sector to operate in accordance with ESG principles. It has been established that the changing paradigm of the global economy, the foundation of which are the Sustainable Development Goals, the climate agenda and the ESG transition, have formed a new a new megatrend of the financial industry – “sustainable finance” or the new quality finance. The trends of recent years indicate the growth of financial products that meet the requirements of ESG principles, which investors are guided by. The response to the demands of the financial market included: the appearance of non-financial reporting and ESG ratings characterizing the company's work on its environmental, social and management risks; the formation of relevant institutional structures, such as rating agencies, expert analytical platforms, verifiers, etc. It has been concluded that investments in ESG are becoming the leading form of financing to achieve sustainable development goals, but the domestic financial sector is not quite ready to implement the ESG principles.

Abstract:One of the manifestations of globalization and mass integration processes is the emergence of the responsibility of every citizen for minimizing the spread of global problems. To date, the focus of the world community's attention is aimed at solving environmental problems in connection with the expansion of their influence zones in a geometric progression, which threatens the sustainability of economic development. The ESG agenda affects business: more and more companies are required to focus on environmental, social and governance factors when addressing strategic goals and objectives. The ESG agenda encourages companies to focus on environmental, social and managerial factors when solving strategic goals and objectives. In this article, approaches to ESG investing are considered as investment strategies based on the analysis of the dynamics of the priority of ESG components. Using the example of the Russian market, ESG ratings of companies are considered and analyzed separately by factors and in an aggregated format. Assumptions are made on the directions of development of ESG investments in the context of economic sectors and the main trends in the sustainable investment market are formulated.

Abstract:Introduction: playing an important role in the country’s transition to a more sustainable future, Russia’s industrial sector is addressing a wide range of interrelated challenges in the field of economics, ecology and social policy, developing competencies and increasing experience in managing ESG factors and sustainability risks. Increasing the level of socially responsible business behavior is significantly growing its role in the context of a current complex political situation and the need to solve national strategic problems, as well as the need to make decisions in response to technological, social and environmental challenges in ESG agenda. Objectives: to identify mechanisms for using digital tools in the implementation of ESG agenda and identify prospects for its development in the national ESG landscape model. Methods: the study is based on the use of a set of methods, including methods of logical and historical analysis, comparison and contrast, economicstatistical, abstract methods and modeling. Results: it has been determined that in the context of the digital transformation of the economy, the effectiveness of solving business problems cannot be achieved without using digital tools, which are widely applied in solving environmental, social and management problems. It was revealed that along with the high potential of using digital technologies in the implementation of ESG agenda, there are also limitations of various origins – technological, financial, ethical and cognitive. The results of ESG transformation of Russian companies leading in the implementation of the sustainable development agenda are summarized. Statistics are provided confirming the commitment of national industrial sector to the concept of sustainable development in ESG paradigm. A conceptual approach to modeling the national ESG landscape is proposed. Conclusions: business involvement in the implementation of ESG agenda demonstrates not only its commitment to the values of socially responsible behavior, but also a deep interest in achieving the adopted Sustainable Development Goals based on a systematic approach to integrating ESG principles into development strategies and business processes.

Abstract:This paper analyses the role of responsible consumption and production as a requirement for sustainable development as well as the advances in relation to the achievement of the SDG12 of the United Nations 2030 Agenda, then determining potential limiting factors. The analysis is based on the compilation and assessment of secondary data and other documentary evidence, thus providing a useful theoretical-referential framework for future empirical studies. The results suggest that responsible production and consumption appears both a sine qua non requirement and an objective of sustainable development, SDG 12 being a referent in the 10 Year Framework of Programmes on Sustainable Consumption and Production Patterns, the UN Development Programme, and the UN Environment Programme, or in relation to the Principles of the Global Compact, among others. The documentary sources also show progress in the procurement of the SDG12, either globally or in the EU, but combining significant achievements with others that are far from being so, in a context characterised by conditions of previous level of development, available information, or drastic influence of supervening circumstances, such as Covid-19 or the war on Ukrainian territory. From all this, the need to continue making efforts in favour of SDG12 is concluded.
Transformation of the ESG tool for assessing sustainable development

Abstract:Technological challenges related to the "green" economy, digitalization of business processes, and intelligent manufacturing affect all sectors of the world economy. In this regard, it is important to promptly receive information about the current state of socio-economic systems and timely take environmental, technological, and financial measures for sustainable development. As an object of research, the authors selected analytical models for ESG transformation due to the high probability of environmental, technological deviations from the set goals of sustainable development. The study revealed that the combination of elements of the concept of mitigation of technological challenges significantly actualize the use of specific scientific approaches reflecting the key principles of the open system of "corporate integration space", intellectualization of production, knowledge economy, innovation integration strategy, strategic public administration. The article describes the mechanisms of development of analytical tools to achieve the mission and objectives of the doctrine in achieving carbon neutrality. The study of the adaptation processes inherent in the classical model of company value management to real conditions allowed us to substantiate the prerequisites for ESG transformation, revealing the possibilities of integrating the parameters of the studied economic system in terms of leveling the consequences of technological lag due to the optimization of key production business processes, increasing the capacity of production facilities, promoting a technologically meaningful economy, activating monitoring of the use of modern technologies, including “augmented” reality. Based on the process approach, a result was obtained that reveals new advantages of analytical approaches to modeling ESG tools, expressed in the modernization of "green" projects focused on the transformation of existing technologies. The conclusion is substantiated that technological innovations, in most cases, significantly increase the likelihood of an increase in unforeseen expenses, especially in conditions of a shortage of financial resources, which allows timely making the necessary adjustments and changing the deadlines for the implementation of innovative projects. The article argues the economic feasibility of continuous improvement of ESG tools for assessing sustainable development.

Abstract:The article explores new models of the organization of the economy, called the circular economy – a model of production and consumption aimed at overcoming global challenges, such as climate change, loss of biodiversity, waste and environmental pollution. The participants were identified and the forms of participation in the process of achieving the SDGs (sustainable development goals) were defined. It was substantiated that the use of the principles of the UN Global Compact in the practical activities of enterprises should ensure that they comply with their basic duties to people and the planet, and would also create the foundations for long-term success. The types of ESG activity of enterprises were systematized according to certain criteria, followed by their classification and definition of the basic objects to which the ESG activity of the enterprise is directed. The standpoints of classical economics were analyzed, by studying the scientific works of specialists in this field of science. Based on the results of this analysis, it was established that ESG activity is a cost that with a doubtful probability can be compensated in the form of additional income. That is, by default it is a loss-making activity. At least, such a perception of ESG-activity can be when studying the issue superficially. The analysis of academic literature and corporate practice made it possible to highlight the key motives for enterprises to implement ESG activities. A study of ESG activity of Ukrainian enterprises was conducted and it was established that this process in Ukraine is at the stage of formation and the situation in this area has significantly worsened due to the war. According to the results of the study of the theoretical foundations of ESG activity of enterprises, the author’s interpretation of the term «ESG activity» was proposed, which should be understood as all types of enterprise activities aimed at achieving the goals of sustainable development through appropriate management decisions, which include measures to improve the environmental condition, social relations and corporate responsibility.

Abstract:The world is facing several challenges, and the problem of sustainable development is one of the most important. It is worth considering that European countries are playing a significant role as pioneers in building a sustainable world, such as those promises made by signing the Paris Agreement and European Taxonomy. To achieve ambitious targets within sustainable development, a huge amount of capital is necessary, while financial and capital market participants are expected to demonstrate a high level of engagement in the domain of sustainability. Facing growing interest and demand, a relatively new product—the ESG (environmental, social, and governance) investment fund—was introduced. Scientific literature is providing some controversial views regarding the overall evaluation of this product. Therefore, additional research providing different angles would contribute to a better understanding. This study examines European ESG funds in the energy sector, from the perspective of news flows and investors. It is worth noting that the authors use the word "European" to refer to members of the European Union (EU). The paper consists of the following parts. In the introduction, the current state of this issue is discussed. The following section offers a literature review and a news flow analysis that contributes to a deeper understanding of these issues. A description of the methodology applied for the data analysis follows this, and the final section presents the research results and conclusions. The authors apply statistical analysis and the Carhart model to determine the differences in the performance of the ESG and conventional funds and use their own tool for text analysis to examine the relevance of the topic of ESG to attract client interest. The authors claim that the performance of the European ESG equity funds do not show a statistically significant difference from the non-ESG equity funds in the majority of the periods examined. The application of the adjusted Carhart model demonstrates that the factor of sustainability has a non-significant and negative effect on the fund performance. Finally, the authors highlight the urgent necessity for the unified usage of keywords and terminology, such as "ESG", "sustainability", etc., to ensure comparison and attribution possibilities.

Abstract:Introduction. In the modern world, where environmental issues and sustainable development are gaining increasing attention, the role of environmental awareness becomes critically important. ESG effects (environmental, social, and governance) influence business activities, investment decisions, contribute to sustainable development and social responsibility, and shape a country’s green brand. It is worth noting that stakeholders with a high level of environmental awareness play a crucial role in this process as they can influence decisions aimed at achieving environmental and social responsibility in business. The paper aims is to determine the level of public awareness of ESG effects, the green brand, and corporate social responsibility in the context of achieving sustainable development goals.Research methods. To determine the level of environmental awareness, a survey was conducted involving participants from various sectors and age groups. The survey was created using the Google Forms tool and conducted online.Results. According to the survey results, the level of education has a significant impact on awareness of sustainable development goals. Respondents aged 30 to 59, who are already employed, showed a greater interest in sustainable development, indicating the importance of practical experience and participation in the business environment. Furthermore, increasing the level of education contributes to reducing indifference towards sustainable development issues, and education in higher educational institutions plays a crucial role in shaping competencies and knowledge about sustainable development, thereby increasing awareness of ESG effects, the green brand, and corporate social responsibility.Perspectives. Despite the significant volume of scientific research related to ESG effects, the green brand, corporate social responsibility, and the achievement of sustainable development goals, it is important to provide practical justification for the impact of environmental awareness on the formation of a country’s green brand. Additionally, determining the role of education in stimulating conscious consumer behavior, participation in green innovation programs, and promoting sustainable consumption is a vital task. Future research can focus on analyzing the effectiveness of social programs and business initiatives in achieving sustainable development goals.
Entrepreneurship's adaptation to the national ESG agenda

Abstract:The concept of sustainable development of domestic entrepreneurship has a growing influence on the adjustment and change of adaptive business models. Today, ESG principles are the basis for ensuring the sustainable functioning of business structures, which occurs under the influence of setting and achieving the goals of companies' involvement in solving environmental, social and managerial problems. In the emerging context, we note the emergence and permanent strengthening of vector, regulatory and reputational effects on the activities and development of business structures. The subject of the research results presented in the article is the assessment of the impact on the adaptation of entrepreneurial structures of the implemented ESG approach as one of the key challenges in the activities of modern business. The methodological basis of the study is a consistent analysis of the impact of changing approaches on key aspects of small and medium-sized businesses, identifying qualitative and quantitative characteristics, assessing possible risks and benefits associated with the introduction of sustainable development principles by business entities. The result of the study is an assessment of the impact of the ESG approach on the adaptation of entrepreneurship to modern challenges, as well as on the financial performance of enterprises. As applied to small and medium-sized businesses, practical recommendations on adaptation risk management are proposed, which demonstrate the importance for the absolute majority of the company's activities. It is obvious that sustainable development makes it possible to improve modern models of adaptation of small and medium-sized businesses for the survival of people whose money is the goal of the economic agents of the system. If consumers do not buy the goods or services offered by the company, it means that the company cannot generate profit and, therefore, it is not viable.. Therefore, it is quite logical not only to build adaptive models for small and medium-sized businesses, but, equally important, to use new consumer motivation and a changing environment, social relations and corporate practices in the interests of business development. When a company's ESG activities are considered not so much as a way to neutralize risk, but also as a method of assessing and determining future opportunities, ESG becomes an area of increased attention and importance for institutional investors and creditors. The conclusions and recommendations made in the article may be significant for companies in various sectors of the economy if they are interested in improving the stability of their own financial situation and increasing the interest of investors in them.

Abstract:Modern conditions for the development of the corporate sector are impossible ifESG-principles are not implemented in the business models of companies. Environmental, social and governance factors embedded in the ESG format represent a standard for assessment of the companies’ performance and investment. The article contains the results of review of thematic publications on the implementation of ESG principles in the corporate sector; Russia’s practice and Soviet experience on the implementation of ESG-principles in the economics are analyzed. Special attention is paid to the review and analysis of ESG-ratings of multinational and Russian companies. The authors have studied the experience of implementing ESGprinciples in the activity of the public limited company «Novolipetsk metallurgical plant» and its subsidiaries (NLMK company group) – the leader of 2023 ESG rating of Russian companies made by «RA Expert RA».

Abstract:In an era marked by technological progress and escalating environmental concerns, businesses must swiftly reconcile sustainability with digital innovation and evolving consumer expectations. This study takes a distinct consumer-oriented approach to assess the adoption of a circular economy across businesses. It specifically explores the integration of pro-environmental behaviour, digital transformation, and incentives as pivotal dimensions in enhancing corporate circularity. Employing a mixed-method approach, this research introduces a novel circularity readiness index specifically developed to quantitatively assess the integration of circular economy principles across the corporate landscape in Norway. Analysing 12 companies within the energy, transportation, fashion, food, and retail sectors, the methodology evaluates companies based on their environmental initiatives, the extent of digital technology integration, and the effectiveness of their incentive mechanisms that promote sustainable practices among their customers. This methodology reveals sector-specific insights regarding circular economy practices, with the energy sector demonstrating notable advancements due to the thorough integration of pro-environmental behaviour, digital transformation, and incentives. On the other hand, the food industry encounters challenges when implementing circular economy practices, highlighting the necessity of targeted initiatives. This study emphasizes the relevance of strategic integration of pro-environmental behaviour, digital transformation, and incentives for progressing towards a circular economy. Businesses should leverage the circularity readiness index to benchmark their sustainability efforts and pinpoint areas for enhancement. Policymakers should establish favourable circumstances by implementing specific policies and incentives, thereby enhancing the engagement of both companies and consumers in circular economy practices. This research contributes to the academic discourse on circular economy and offers practical guidelines for stakeholders aiming to foster sustainable development.

Abstract:The article examines the evolution of conceptual views on the sustainable development of the planetary system from the theory of the noosphere by V.I. Vernadsky to the modern paradigm of sustainable development of society. The essence of the global goals of sustainable development until 2030, which reflect the scale and direction of the new agenda of mankind, is revealed. It is determined that the ESG-concept is a practical tool for the participation of the business sector in achieving the goals of sustainable development. The urgency of responsible activity of business structures for the restoration of public life in Ukraine in the postwar period is emphasized. The main aspects of ESG-concept as an environmental, social, and management triangle of the formation of sustainable viability of enterprises are highlighted. The positive impact of environmental and social risk management on the long-term market value of companies is substantiated. It is determined that the main driving forces of the implementation of ESG-principles in the private sector, include investors, international organizations, international banks of development, governments, consumers. The application of the ESG-principles in Ukraine on the example of the ESG-strategy until 2030 of the DTEK Group is studied, and their priorities for participation in achieving the goals of sustainable development are highlighted. The main directions of activity of socially responsible domestic enterprises are determined: labor relations, environmental responsibility, consumer relations, community development, and anti-corruption practices. It is proved that the disclosure of non-financial information and ensuring the transparency of companies' activities is another new process in Ukraine, which is complicated by the lack of generally accepted standards for non-financial information disclosure. The article identifies the main problems of wide application of ESG-concept in the practical activities of the business sector and substantiates the directions of intensification of this process, including: leadership and strengthening the influence of large companies on the implementation of economic agents ESG-principles; implementation of socially responsible investment by financial structures; standardization of the content and process of disclosure of non-financial information; popularization and explanation of the essence and role of ESG-concepts for the development of the business sector; training of competent specialists in this field.

Abstract:This study explores the links between environmental attitudes and values, personal norms, perceived responsibility, pro-environmental and prosocial engagement in sustainable consumption, and sustainable consumption behavior. Data was collected by surveying 904 Lithuanians through non-random quota sampling. Empirical research reveals that internal factors, such as environmental attitudes, values, personal norms, and perceived responsibility, have a positive direct effect on engagement with sustainable consumption. In addition, the findings indicate that pro-environmental and prosocial engagement to act as a mediator in enhancing the impact on sustainable consumer behavior. The results of this study expand the understanding of the engagement phenomena and how it can assist in shifting to sustainable consumer behavior in the Lithuanian context. Opportunities to encourage sustainable consumption behavior are presented for marketers and policy makers.

Abstract:The sustainable development of the global economy and society calls for the practice of the environmental, social and governance (ESG) principle. The ESG principle has been developed for 17 years following its formal proposal in 2004. Countries around the world continue to promote the coordinated development of the environment, society, and governance in accordance with the ESG principle. In order to review and summarize ESG research, this study takes the literature related to ESG research as the research object and presents the cooperation status, hot spots, and trends of ESG research. This study presents an examination and comprehensive summary of progress in the research into ESG combined with a systematic literature review. This includes the theoretical basis of ESG research, the interaction between the dimensions of ESG, the impact of ESG on the economic consequences, the risk prevention role of ESG, and ESG measurement. Based on the systematic summary of research progress, this paper further refines the characteristics of ESG research, reveals the shortcomings of ESG research, and propose a focus for ESG research in the future in order to provide a reference for academic research and the practice of ESG.
