This large dataset provided good opportunities for meson spectroscopy studies at the Tevatron. This article will cover the recent new $\Upsilon(nS)$ polarization studies as well as exotic meson spectroscopy studies.

Abstract:We present measurements of the forward-backward asymmetry in the angular distribution of leptons from decays of top quarks and antiquarks produced in proton-antiproton collisions. We consider the final state containing a lepton and at least three jets. The entire sample of data collected by the D0 experiment during Run II of the Fermilab Tevatron Collider, corresponding to 9.7 fb(-1) of integrated luminosity, is used. The asymmetry measured for reconstructed leptons is A(FB)(l) = (2.9 +/- 2.1(stat.)(-1.7)(+1.5) (syst.))%. When corrected for efficiency and resolution effects within the lepton rapidity coverage of vertical bar y(l)vertical bar < 1.5, the asymmetry is found to be A(FB)(l) = (4.2 +/- 2.3(stat.)(-2.0)(+1.7) (syst.))%. We examine the dependence of A(FB)(l) on the transverse momentum and rapidity of the lepton. Combination with the asymmetry measured in the final states containing two leptons yields A(FB)(l) = (4.2 +/- 2.0(stat.) +/- 1.4(syst.))%. The results are in agreement with predictions from the next-to-leading-order QCD generator MC@NLO, which predicts an asymmetry of A(FB)(l) = 2.0% for vertical bar y(l)vertical bar < 1.5.

Abstract:We present some new results on searches for new physics at the Tevatron Run 1 (1992 -- 1996). The topics covered are searches for R-Parity violating and conserving mSUGRA, large extra dimensions in di-photon and monojet channels, leptoquark in jets + missing Et channel, and two model independent searches. All results were finalized during the past year.

Abstract:Selected quantum chromodynamics (QCD) measurements performed at the Fermilab Run II Tevatron ppbar collider running at sqrt{s} = 1.96 TeV by CDF and D0 Collaborations are presented. The inclusive jet, dijet production and three-jet cross section measurements are used to test perturbative QCD calculations, constrain parton distribution function (PDF) determinations, and extract a precise value of the strong coupling constant, alpha_s(m_Z) = 0.1161^{+0.0041}_{-0.0048}. Inclusive photon production cross-section measurements reveal an inability of next-to-leading-order (NLO) perturbative QCD (pQCD) calculations to describe low-energy photons arising directly in the hard scatter. The diphoton production cross-sections check the validity of the NLO pQCD predictions, soft-gluon resummation methods implemented in theoretical calculations, and contributions from the parton-to-photon fragmentation diagrams. Events with W/Z+jets productions are used to measure many kinematic distributions allowing extensive tests and tunes of predictions from pQCD NLO and Monte-Carlo event generators. The charged-particle transverse momenta (pT) and multiplicity distributions in the inclusive minimum bias events are used to tune non-perturbative QCD models, including those describing the multiple parton interactions (MPI). Events with inclusive production of photon and 2 or 3 jets are used to study increasingly important MPI phenomenon at high pT, measure an effective interaction cross section, sigma_eff = 16.4+- 2.3 mb, and limit existing MPI models.

Scaling law for the critical function of an approximate renormalization

Abstract:We construct an approximate renormalization for Hamiltonian systems with two degrees of freedom in order to study the break-up of invariant tori with arbitrary frequency. We derive the equation of the critical surface of the renormalization map, and we compute the scaling behavior of the critical function of one-parameter families of Hamiltonians, near rational frequencies. For the forced pendulum model, we find the same scaling law found for the standard map in [Carletti and Laskar, preprint (2000)]. We discuss a conjecture on the link between the critical function of various types of forced pendulum models, with the Bruno function.

Abstract:Preliminary results from the D0 experiment on jet production with rapidity gaps in $p\bar{p}$ collisions are presented. A class of dijet events with a forward rapidity gap is observed at center-of-mass energies $\sqrt{s}$ = 1800 GeV and 630 GeV. The number of events with rapidity gaps at both center-of-mass energies is significantly greater than the expectation from multiplicity fluctuations and is consistent with a hard single diffractive process. A class of events with two forward gaps and central dijets are also observed at 1800 GeV. This topology is consistent with hard double pomeron exchange. We also present proposed plans for extending these analysis into Run II through the use of a forward proton detector.

Abstract:Understanding the spin structure of the proton is of large interest to the nuclear physics community and it is one of the main goals of the spin physics program at the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider (RHIC). Measurements from data taken by the PHENIX detector with transverse ($p^{\uparrow} + p$, $p^{\uparrow}$ + Al, $p^{\uparrow}$ + Au) proton polarization play an important role in this, in particular, due to the leading order access to gluons in polarized protons. Transverse single-spin asymmetries (TSSAs) provide insight into initial and final state spin-momentum and spin-spin parton-hadron correlations. In addition to possible final state contributions, $\pi^{0}$ and $\eta$ TSSAs access both quark and gluon correlations in the polarized proton. Furthermore, the $p^{\uparrow} + A$ data from RHIC provides an opportunity to study the effect of TSSAs in the presence of additional nuclear matter. Midrapidity $\pi^{0}$ and $\eta$ mesons are measured at PHENIX by detecting the 2$\gamma$ decay with the electromagnetic calorimeter (EMCal) in the central arm spectrometer, which has fine granularity for the resolution of separate decay photons. New results for TSSAs of midrapidity $\pi^{0}$ and $\eta$ mesons in $\sqrt{s_{NN}} = 200$ GeV $p^{\uparrow}$ + Au and $p^{\uparrow}$ + Al collisions from the 2015 running year will be presented, and compared with the recent $\sqrt{s} = 200$ GeV $p^{\uparrow} + p$ results.

Abstract:The CMS Collaboration has performed many studies in the field of heavy flavor spectroscopy. In this report, recent studies on exotic resonances in proton-proton collisions at $\sqrt{s} = 13$ TeV at CMS are presented. For the exotic hadrons, these results include the first evidence for X(3872) in heavy-ion collisions and three new structures in $J/\psi J/\psi$ mass spectrum. Beside the exotic hadrons, we also found new decay channels in conventional beauty hadrons, including $B^{0}_{s}\rightarrow\psi(2S)K^{0}_{S}$, $\Lambda_{b}^{0}\rightarrow J/\psi\Xi^{-}K^{+} $, $B^{0} \rightarrow \psi(2S)K^{0}_{S}\pi^{+} \pi^{-}$, and $\Xi_{b}^{-} \rightarrow \psi(2S)\Xi^{-}$.

Abstract:Abstract $$J/\psi $$ J / ψ - or $$\Upsilon $$ Υ -pair production at the LHC are promising processes to study the gluon transverse momentum distributions (TMDs) which remain very poorly known. In this article, we improve on previous results by including the TMD evolution in the computation of the observables such as the pair-transverse-momentum spectrum and asymmetries arising from the linear polarization of gluons inside unpolarized protons. We show that the azimuthal asymmetries generated by the gluon polarization are reduced compared to the tree level case but are still of measurable size (in the 5–10% range). Such asymmetries should be measurable in the available data sets of $$J/\psi $$ J / ψ pairs and in the future data sets of the high-luminosity LHC for $$\Upsilon $$ Υ pairs.

Abstract:The latest results on the measurements of electroweak top-quark production at the Tevatron are presented with the full RunII dataset. The CDF and D0 Collaborations have performed measurements of the s, t, and s+t channels in both l+jets and MET+jets final states. Evidence for the production of the s channel is presented for the first time.

Abstract:We calculate the cos2ϕ azimuthal asymmetry of the unpolarized pp̅ Drell-Yan dilepton production process in the Z-resonance region at the Tevatron kinematic domain. Such an azimuthal asymmetry can provide additional information about a spin-related new parton distribution function, i.e., the Boer-Mulders function of the proton, compared to the pp process. Therefore the available data of unpolarized proton-antiproton collision at Tevatron can contribute to our study on the spin structure of the nucleon.

Abstract:Jets have been used to verify the theory of quantum chromodynamics (QCD), measure the structure of the proton and to search for the physics beyond the Standard Model. In this article, we review the current status of jet physics at the Tevatron, a sqrt(s) = 1.96 TeV p-pbar collider at the Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory. We report on recent measurements of the inclusive jet production cross section and the results of searches for physics beyond the Standard Model using jets. Dijet production measurements are also reported.

Abstract:This paper reviews some of the most recent results from CDF and D0 experiments on searches for supersymmetry (SUSY) at the Tevatron. We focus on searches for chargino/neutralino, stop, sbottom, and long lived massive SUSY particles, on data samples up to ~1 fb-1. No signal was observed, and constraints are set on the SUSY parameter space.

Abstract:We consider the recent measurement of the top quark forward-backward asymmetry at the Fermilab Tevatron, which shows a discrepancy of slightly more than 2 sigma compared to the standard model prediction. We find that t-channel exchange of a color sextet or triplet scalar particle can explain the measurement, while leaving the cross section for t (t) over bar production within measured uncertainties. Such particles have good discovery prospects by study of the kinematic structure of t (t) over bar + jets at the LHC.

Abstract:The CDF and D0 experiments at the Tevatron $p\bar{p}$ collider established that extensive and detailed exploration of the b-quark dynamics is possible in hadron collisions, with results competitive and supplementary to B-factories. In this paper we review the current state of Tevatron's heavy flavor measurements considering two main categories: searches for non standard model physics (results on rare decays and CP-violation) and determinations of standard model parameters (annihilation in $B \to h^+ h^-$ decays and $\gamma$ angle measurement through $B\to DK$ modes).

Abstract:We present an improved measurement of the $\eta'$ meson energy spectrum in $\Upsilon(1S)$ decays, using 1.2 fb^{-1} of data taken at the $\Upsilon(1S)$ center-of-mass energy with the CLEO III detector. We compare our results with models of the $\eta'$ gluonic form factor that have been suggested to explain the unexpectedly large $B\to \eta 'X_s$ rate. Models based on perturbative QCD fail to fit the data for large $\eta '$ energies, and thus an explanation outside the realm of the Standard Model or an improved understanding of non-perturbative QCD effects may be needed to account for this large rate.

Abstract:The Belle and Belle II experiments have collected a 1.4 ab$^{-1}$ sample of $e^+e^-$ collision data at centre-of-mass energies near the $\Upsilon (nS)$ resonances, of which 424 fb$^{-1}$ were collected at Belle II in Run1 (2019--2022). We present a measurement of the lepton-flavour universality between electrons and muons, the search for the lepton-flavour violation decay $\tau^{-} \to \mu^{-}\mu^{+}\mu^{-}$, and a measurement of the $e^+e^- \to \pi^+\pi^-\pi^0$ cross section in the energy range from 0.62--3.5 GeV using an initial-state radiation technique, all performed with Belle II data.

Modern meson spectroscopy: the fundamental role of unitarity

Abstract:The importance of $S$-matrix unitarity in realistic meson spectroscopy is reviewed, both its historical development and more recent applications. First the effects of imposing $S$-matrix unitarity on meson resonances is demonstrated in both the elastic and the inelastic case. Then, the static quark model is revisited and its theoretical as well as phenomenological shortcomings are highlighted. A detailed account is presented of the mesons in the tables of the Particle Data Group that cannot be explained at all or only poorly in models describing mesons as pure quark-antiquark bound states. Next the earliest unitarised and coupled-channel models are revisited, followed by several examples of puzzling meson resonances and their understanding in a modern unitarised framework. Also, recent and fully unquenched lattice descriptions of such mesons are summarised. Finally, attention is paid to production processes, which require an unconventional yet related unitary approach. Proposals for further improvement are discussed.
