Abstract:The stability criterion of discrete systems is an important part in the analysis and design of the computer control system. While Routh stability criterion for continuous systems used in discrete system, the z plane has to be converted into the w plane by bilinear transform. A CAD method is presented in this paper, the calculating process are achieved automatically using symbolic math toolbox on MATLAB. Two special cases that the elements are zero on the first column of Routh table are discussed detailedly and found out a solution. This paper discusses the application of Routh criterion, the numerical range of system variable is confirmed by parameter account and ensured the system into stable state. The result compare shows that this method is correct.

Abstract:Stability is one of the most significant system analysis and design factor. Therefore, stability analysis should be studied, understood and properly applied in engineering education systems like control systems. The Routh-Hurwitz stability criterion in control systems is a mathematical method which is reasonable and essential to ensure the stability of an LTI system. The stability criterion of Routh-Hurwitz is a requirement and an effective stability condition. If any control system does not fulfill the requirements, we may conclude that it is dysfunctional. Nonetheless, the control system may or may not be stable if it meets the appropriate criteria. In this paper, the Routh-Hurwitz stability criterion is first discussed in brief and also the implementation of the stability criterion using characteristic equation vectors using the MATLAB software.

Abstract:The upper bound limit analysis approach,which is based on the upper bound theorem,is one of the familiar methods for slope stability problems.The key of the approach is the construction of kinematically admission failure pattern.According to the Mohr-Coulomb’s yield criterion and its associative flow rule,a novel slope stability analysis method is presented.In the method,the collapse mechanism is assumed to be in the form of rigid blocks analogous to slices in traditional slice methods and takes the translational and rotational velocities of slice into account at the same time.The purely translational and purely rotational velocity fields are two special cases of the presented mechanism of failure.Numerical examples illustrate that the proposed approach gives lower factor of safety than the purely translational one,and the results are also compared with those given by the conventional limit equilibrium method.

Abstract:Celebrated results often unfold like episodes in a long-running series. In the field of extremal set thoery, Erdős, Ko, and Rado in 1961 established that any $k$-uniform intersecting family on $[n]$ has a maximum size of $\binom{n-1}{k-1}$, with the unique extremal structure being a star. In 1967, Hilton and Milner followed up with a pivotal result, showing that if such a family is not a star, its size is at most $\binom{n-1}{k-1} - \binom{n-k-1}{k-1} + 1$, and they identified the corresponding extremal structures. In recent years, Han and Kohayakawa, Kostochka and Mubayi, and Huang and Peng have provided the second and third levels of stability results in this line of research. In this paper, we provide a unified approach to proving the stability result for the Erdős-Ko-Rado theorem at any level. Our framework primarily relies on a robust linear algebra method, which leverages appropriate non-shadows to effectively handle the structural complexities of these intersecting families.

Abstract:The Riccati equation method is used to establish some new stability criteria for systems of two linear first-order ordinary differential equations. It is shown that two of these criteria in the two dimensional case imply the Routh - Hurwitz's criterion.

Abstract:We propose a quantitative direct method of proving the local stability for the trivial solution of a rough differential equation and of its regular discretization scheme. Using Doss-Sussmann technique and stopping time analysis, we prove that the trivial solution of the rough system is exponentially stable as long as the noise is small. The same conclusions hold for the regular discretization scheme with small noise and small step size. Our results are significantly stronger than \cite[Theorem 14]{garrido-atienzaetal} and \cite[Theorem 18]{GABSch18} and can be applied to non-flat bounded or linear noises.

Abstract:We prove pointwise and $L^{p}$-gradient comparison results for solutions to elliptic Dirichlet problems defined on open subsets of a (possibly non-smooth) space with positive Ricci curvature (more precisely of an $\mathrm{RCD}(K,N)$ metric measure space, with $K>0$ and $N\in (1,\infty)$). The obtained Talenti-type comparison is sharp, rigid and stable with respect to $L^{2}$/measured-Gromov-Hausdorff topology; moreover, several aspects seem new even for smooth Riemannian manifolds. As applications of such Talenti-type comparison, we prove a series of improved Sobolev-type inequalities, and an $\mathrm{RCD}$ version of the St.~Venant-Pólya torsional rigidity comparison theorem (with associated rigidity and stability statements). Finally, we give a probabilistic interpretation (in the setting of smooth Riemannian manifolds) of the aforementioned comparison results, in terms of exit time from an open subset for the Brownian motion.

Abstract:Erdős-Ko-Rado (EKR) type theorems yield upper bounds on the sizes of families of sets, subject to various intersection requirements on the sets in the family. Stability versions of such theorems assert that if the size of a family is close to the maximum possible size, then the family itself must be close (in some appropriate sense) to a maximum-sized family. In this paper, we present an approach to obtaining stability versions of EKR-type theorems, via isoperimetric inequalities for subsets of the hypercube. Our approach is rather general, and allows the leveraging of a wide variety of exact EKR-type results into strong stability versions of these results, without going into the proofs of the original results. We use this approach to obtain tight stability versions of the EKR theorem itself and of the Ahlswede-Khachatrian theorem on $t$-intersecting families of $k$-element subsets of $\{1,2,\ldots.n\}$ (for $k < \frac{n}{t+1}$), and to show that, somewhat surprisingly, all these results hold when the intersection requirement is replaced by a much weaker requirement. Other examples include stability versions of Frankl's recent result on the Erdős matching conjecture, the Ellis-Filmus-Friedgut proof of the Simonovits-Sós conjecture, and various EKR-type results on $r$-wise (cross)-$t$-intersecting families.

Hypocoercivity for Linear ODEs and Strong Stability for Runge--Kutta Methods

Abstract:In this note, we connect two different topics from linear algebra and numerical analysis: hypocoercivity of semi-dissipative matrices and strong stability for explicit Runge--Kutta schemes. Linear autonomous ODE systems with a non-coercive matrix are called hypocoercive if they still exhibit uniform exponential decay towards the steady state. Strong stability is a property of time-integration schemes for ODEs that preserve the temporal monotonicity of the discrete solutions. It is proved that explicit Runge--Kutta schemes are strongly stable with respect to semi-dissipative, asymptotically stable matrices if the hypocoercivity index is sufficiently small compared to the order of the scheme. Otherwise, the Runge--Kutta schemes are in general not strongly stable. As a corollary, explicit Runge--Kutta schemes of order $p\in 4\N$ with $s=p$ stages turn out to be \emph{not} strongly stable. This result was proved in \cite{AAJ23}, filling a gap left open in \cite{SunShu19}. Here, we present an alternative, direct proof.

Abstract:In this article, we give some comments on the article 'A new RISE-based adaptive control of PKMs: design, stability analysis and experiments'. The article presents a new adaptive control for parallel kinematic manipulators (PKMs) based on the robust integral of the sign of the error (RISE) technique and validates its ineffectiveness by real-time experiments. We point out several flaws that occurred through the proof for Proposition 6.1, shedding doubt on the validity of the main result presented in Proposition 6.1. A corrected proof is proposed.

Abstract:Novel criteria for global asymptotic stability of nonlinear uncertain finite-dimensional systems are presented. The results are obtained by a combination of the "discretization approach" and the ideas contained in the proof of the original Matrosov's result. The results can be used for the proof of global asymptotic stability by using continuously differentiable, positive definite functions which do not have a negative semi-definite derivative. Illustrating examples are provided.

We first present a definition of D-stability for non-square matrices, directly extending from square matrices. We propose sufficient conditions for specific configurations of non-square matrices. Finally, we consider the selection of configurations to ensure the D-stability of a given non-square system.

Abstract:This paper presents a general methodology for finding stability equivalence regions, of a wide class of linear time-invariant systems with irrational transfer functions, inside a parametric space. The proposed methodology can be applied to distributed-parameter, time-delay and fractional systems. Unlike rational transfer functions which have only a finite number of poles, irrational transfer functions may generally possess an infinite number of poles, branch points and even essential singularities. Due to this, stability of such systems is more difficult to analyze. Two variants of the new methodology are presented. The first one analyzes stability equivalence along a curve in the parametric space, starting from a given parametric point. The second one finds the maximal stability equivalence region in the parametric space around a given parametric point. Both methodologies are based on iterative application of Rouché’s theorem. Abstract: This paper studies the robust isolated calmness property of the KKT solution mapping of a class of nonsmooth optimization problems on Riemannian manifold. The manifold version of the Robinson constraint qualification, the strict Robinson constraint qualification, and the second order conditions are defined and discussed. We show that the robust isolated calmness of the KKT solution mapping is equivalent to the M-SRCQ and M-SOSC conditions. Furthermore, under the above two conditions, we show that the Riemannian augmented Lagrangian method has a local linear convergence rate. Finally, we verify the proposed conditions and demonstrate the convergence rate on two minimization problems over the sphere and the manifold of fixed rank matrices.
A Note on Free Boundary Problems on RCD(K,N)-spaces

Abstract:This note is devoted to prove the following results on RCD(K,N)-spaces: 1) minimizers of one-phase Bernoulli problems are locally Lipschitz continuous; 2) minimizers of classical obstacle problems are quadratic growth away from the free boundary. Recently, both of these two results were obtained on non-collapsed RCD(K,N)-spaces; see [13,23]. This note will prove these two results without assuming that the ambient space is non-collapsed. We also include a proof of nondegeneracy of minimizers and locally finiteness of perimeter of their free boundaries for two-phase Bernoulli problems.

Abstract:In this paper, state space representation based approach to relative stability of Linear Time Invariant (LTI) systems is discussed. Specifically, given a bound on the output, relative Bounded Input-Bounded Output (BIBO) stability of LTI systems is discussed. The bound on dominant pole is first determined using input-output description of LTI system. Using state space representation of homogeneous (no external input) LTI system, the components of state vector are upper bound. The results are applied to Continuous Time Markov Chains (i.e. homogeneous stochastic linear systems). Finally, using state space representation of arbitrary (with external input) Linear Time Invariant systems, the location of dominant pole is bounded. Using the upper bound, the location of line (parallel to imaginary-axis jω and to the left of it) is utilized for determining relative stability.
