Abstract:In this paper we consider classifying spaces of a family of $p$-groups and we prove that mod $p$ cohomology enriched with Bockstein spectral sequences determines their homotopy type among $p$-completed CW-complexes. We end with some applications to group theory.

Abstract:We discuss a notion of uniqueness up to $n$-homotopy and study examples from stable homotopy theory. In particular, we show that the $q$-expansion map from elliptic cohomology to topological $K$-theory is unique up to $3$-homotopy, away from the prime $2$, and that upon taking $p$-completions and $\mathbf{F}_p^\times$-homotopy fixed points, this map is uniquely defined up to $(2p-3)$-homotopy. Using this, we prove new relationships between Adams operations on connective and dualisable topological modular forms -- other applications, including a construction of a connective model of Behrens' $Q(N)$ spectra away from $2N$, will be explored elsewhere. The technical tool facilitating this uniqueness is a variant of the Goerss--Hopkins obstruction theory for real spectra, which applies to various elliptic cohomology and topological $K$-theories with a trivial complex conjugation action as well as some of their homotopy fixed points.

Abstract:Let $PU_n$ denote the projective unitary group of rank $n$, and let $BPU_n$ be its classifying space. We extend our previous results to a description of $H^s(BPU_n;\mathbb{Z})_{(p)}$ for $s<2p+9$ by showing that $p$-primary subgroups of $H^s(BPU_n;\mathbb{Z})$ is $\mathbb{Z}/p$ for $s=2p+5$ and are trivial for $s = 2p+7$ and $s = 2p+8$, where $p$ is an odd prime.

Abstract:We prove that groups that are mod-p-homology equivalent are isomorphic modulo any term of their derived p-series, in precise analogy to Stallings' 1963 result for the lower-central p-series. Similarly spaces that are mod-p-homology equivalent have fundamental groups that are isomorphic modulo any term of their p-derived series. Various authors have related the ranks of the successive quotients of the lower central p-series and of the derived p-series of the fundamental group of a 3-manifold M to the volume of M, to whether certain subgroups of the fundamental group of M are free, whether finite index subgroups of the fundamental group of M map onto non-abelian free groups, and to whether finite covers of M are ``large'' in various other senses. Specifically, let A be a finitely-generated group and B be a finitely presented group. If a homomorphism induces an isomorphism (respectively monomorphism) on H_1(- ;Z_p) and an epimorphism on H_2(- ;Z_p), then for each finite n, it induces an isomorphism (respectively monomorphism) between the quotients of A and B by the n-th terms of their respective p-derived series. In fact we prove a stronger version that is analogous to Dwyer's extension of Stallings' theorem.

The geometric realization of regular path complexes via (co-)homology

Abstract:The aim of this paper is to give the geometric realization of regular path complexes via (co)homology groups with coefficients in a ring R. Concretely, for each regular path complex P, we associate it with a singular Δ-complex S(P) and show that the (co)homology groups of P are isomorphic to those of S(P) with coefficients in R. As a direct result we recognize path (co)homology as Hochschild (co)homology in case that R is commutative and P regular finite. Analogues of the Eilenberg-Zilber theorem and Künneth formula are also showed for the Cartesian product and the join of two regular path complexes. In fact, we meanwhile improve some previous results which are covered by these conclusions in this paper.
Lannes' $T$-functor and mod-$p$ cohomology of profinite groups

Abstract:The Lannes-Quillen theorem relates the mod-$p$ cohomology of a finite group $G$ with the mod-$p$ cohomology of centralizers of abelian elementary $p$-subgroups of $G$, for $p>0$ a prime number. This theorem was extended to profinite groups whose mod-$p$ cohomology algebra is finitely generated by Henn. In a weaker form, the Lannes-Quillen theorem was then extended by Symonds to arbitrary profinite groups. Building on Symonds' result, we formulate and prove a full version of this theorem for all profinite groups. For this purpose, we develop a theory of products for families of discrete torsion modules, parameterized by a profinite space, which is dual, in a very precise sense, to the theory of coproducts for families of profinite modules, parameterized by a profinite space, developed by Haran, Melnikov and Ribes. In the last section, we give applications to the problem of conjugacy separability of $p$-torsion elements and finite $p$-subgroups.

Abstract:We prove that the Serre spectral sequence of the fibration $\overline{\mathcal M}_{0, 1+p} \to E\mathbb Z/p \times_{\mathbb Z/p} \overline{\mathcal M}_{0, 1+p} \to B \mathbb Z/p$ collapses at the $E_2$ page. We use this to prove that: for any element of the $\mathbb Z/p$-equivariant cohomology with $\mathbb F_p$-coefficients of genus zero Deligne-Mumford space with $1+p$ marked points, if this element is torsion then it is non-equivariant. This concludes that the only "interesting" $\mathbb Z/p$-equivariant operations are quantum Steenrod power operations.

Cohomology rings of extended powers and free infinite loop spaces

Abstract:We calculate mod-p cohomology of extended powers, and their group completions which are free infinite loop spaces. We consider the cohomology of all extended powers of a space together and identify a Hopf ring structure with divided powers within which cup product structure is more readily computable than on its own. We build on our previous calculations of cohomology of symmetric groups, which are the cohomology of extended powers of a point, the well-known calculation of homology, and new results on cohomology of symmetric groups with coefficients in the sign representation. We then use this framework to understand cohomology rings of related spaces such as infinite extended powers and free infinite loop spaces. v2 typo in gradings of Theorem 2.35 corrected.

The cohomology of $p$-adic Deligne-Luszitg schemes of Coxeter type

Abstract:We determine the cohomology of the closed Drinfeld stratum of $p$-Deligne--Lusztig schemes of Coxeter type attached to arbitrary inner forms of unramified groups over a local non-archimedean field. We prove that the corresponding torus weight spaces are supported in exactly one cohomological degree, and are pairwisely non-isomorphic irreducible representations of the pro-unipotent radical of the corresponding parahoric subgroup. We also prove that all Moy--Prasad quotients of this stratum are maximal varieties, and we investigate the relation between the resulting representations and Kirillov's orbit method.

Abstract:Abstract The mapping class group $\Gamma ^k(N_g)$ of a non-orientable surface with punctures is studied via classical homotopy theory of configuration spaces. In particular, we obtain a non-orientable version of the Birman exact sequence. In the case of ${\mathbb{R}} \textrm{P}^2$, we analyze the Serre spectral sequence of a fiber bundle $F_k({\mathbb{R}}{\textrm{P}}^{2}) / \Sigma _k \to X_k \to BSO(3)$ where $X_k$ is a $K(\Gamma ^k({\mathbb{R}} \textrm{P}^2),1)$ and $F_k({\mathbb{R}}{\textrm{P}}^{2}) / \Sigma _k$ denotes the configuration space of unordered $k$-tuples of distinct points in ${\mathbb{R}} \textrm{P}^2$. As a consequence, we express the mod-2 cohomology of $\Gamma ^k({\mathbb{R}} \textrm{P}^2)$ in terms of that of $F_k({\mathbb{R}}{\textrm{P}}^{2}) / \Sigma _k$.

Abstract:Let p be an odd prime and q = 2(p−1). Up to total degree t−s < max{(5p3 +6p2 +6p+ 4)q − 10, p4q}, the generators of Hs,t(U(L)), the cohomology of the universal enveloping algebra of a bigraded Lie algebra L, are determined and their convergence is also verified. Furthermore our results reveal that this cohomology satisfies an analogous Poinćare duality property. This largely generalizes an earlier classical results due to J. P. May.

Abstract:Colmez, Dospinescu and Niziol have shown that the only $p$-adic representations of $\rm{Gal}(\bar{\mathbb{Q}}_p/\mathbb{Q}_p)$ appearing in the $p$-adic étale cohomology of the coverings of Drinfeld's half-plane are the $2$-dimensional cuspidal representations (i.e. potentially semi-stable, whose associated Weil-Deligne representation is irreducible) with Hodge-Tate weights $0$ and $1$ and their multiplicities are given by the $p$-adic Langlands correspondence. We generalise this result to arbitrary weights, by considering the $p$-adic étale cohomology with coefficients in the symmetric powers of the universal local system on Drinfeld's tower. A novelty is the appearance of potentially semistable $2$-dimensional non-cristabelian representations, with expected multiplicity. The key point is that the local systems we consider turn out to be particularly simple: they are "isotrivial opers" on a curve. We develop a recipe to compute the proétale cohomology of such a local system using the Hyodo-Kato cohomology of the curve and the de Rham complex of the flat filtered bundle associated to the local system.

Abstract:We study the homotopy properties of the posets of p-subgroups S p ( G ) and A p ( G ) of a finite group G, viewed as finite topological spaces. We answer a question raised by R.E. Stong in 1984 about the relationship between the contractibility of the finite space A p ( G ) and that of S p ( G ) negatively, and describe the contractibility of A p ( G ) in terms of algebraic properties of the group G.

In 1962, Liulevicius described h i and b k in Ext* A ’*(Zp,Zp) having bigrading (1, sui— 1) and (2, 2p k+1 x(p— 1)), respectively. In this paper we prove that for p ≥ 7, n ≥ 4 and $3 \leqslant s < p - 1, h_0 b_{n - 1} \tilde \gamma _s \in Ext_A^{s + 3,p^n q + sp^2 q + (s - 1)pq + (s - 1)q + s - 3} (Z_p ,Z_p )$ survives to E∞ in the Adams spectral sequence, where q = 2(p — 1).

Abstract:Abstract In this paper, we study the homotopy type of the partially ordered set of left cosets of abelian subgroups in an extraspecial p -group. We prove that the universal cover of its nerve is homotopy equivalent to a wedge of r -spheres where 2 ⁢ r ≥ 4 {2r\geq 4} is the rank of its Frattini quotient. This determines the homotopy type of the universal cover of the classifying space of transitionally commutative bundles as introduced in [2].

Abstract:Let p be a prime number. One of the most difficult and important questions in Galois theory these days is determining which pro- p groups can occur as maximal pro- p Galois groups. Some restrictions of the structure of maximal pro- p Galois groups are already known, and therefore, the families of all pro- p groups satisfying these restrictions are in the center of the research. In the current paper we deal with three of these families: The family of all pro- p groups which satisfy hereditarily the n -vanishing Massey product property, the family of 1-cyclotomic oriented pro- p groups, and the family of pro- p groups that are hereditarily of p -absolute Galois type. We show that all these families are closed under taking profinite completion of each order.

Abstract:Using Patchkoria--Pstrągowski's version of Franke's algebraicity theorem, we prove that the category of $K_p(n)$-local spectra is exotically equivalent to the category of derived $I_n$-complete periodic comodules over the Adams Hopf algebroid $(E_*, E_*E)$ for large primes. This gives a finite prime result analogous to the asymptotic algebraicity for $\mathrm{Sp}_{K_p(n)}$ of Barthel--Schlank--Stapleton.

In this paper we prove that in the cohomology of A the product h(1)h(n)(delta) over tilde (s+4) is an element of Ext(A)(s+6,t(s,n)+s) (Z(p), Z(p)) is nontrivial for n >= 5, and trivial for n = 3,4, where (delta) over tilde (s+4) is actually (alpha) over tilde ((4))(s+4) described by X. Wang and Q. Zheng, 0 <= s < p - 4, t(s, n) = 2(p - 1)[(s + 1) + (s + 3)p + (s + 3)p(2) + (s + 4)p(3) + p(n)] We show our results by explicit combinatorial analysis of the (modified) May spectral sequence. The method of proof is very elementary.
On patched completed homology and a conjecture of Venkatesh

Abstract:Let $F$ be a CM field and $\Pi$ a regular algebraic cuspidal cohomological representation of $\mathbf{G}=\operatorname{PGL}_2/F$. A conjecture of Venkatesh describes the structure of the contribution of $\Pi$ to the homology of the locally symmetric spaces associated to $\mathbf{G}$. We investigate this conjecture in the setting of $p$-adic homology with $p$ a totally split prime. Along the way, we elaborate on the relations between Venkatesh's conjecture and completed homology, the Taylor-Wiles method and the $p$-adic local Langlands correspondence. Our main result is a `big $R=T$' theorem in characteristic 0, from which we deduce a variant of the $p$-adic realisation of Venkatesh's conjecture, conditional on various natural conjectures and technical assumptions.

The Topological Cartier--Raynaud Ring

Abstract:We prove that the $\infty$-category of $p$-typical topological Cartier modules, recently introduced by Antieau--Nikolaus, over some base $A$ is equivalent to the $\infty$-category of modules over a ring spectrum $\mathcal R_A$, which we call the topological Cartier--Raynaud ring. Our main result is an identification of the homotopy groups of $\mathcal R_A$. In particular, for $A=W(k)$, the Witt vectors over $k$, the homotopy groups $\pi_*\mathcal R_{W(k)}$ recover the classical Cartier--Raynaud ring constructed by Illusie--Raynaud. Moreover, along the way we will describe the compact generator of $p$-typical topological Cartier modules and classifies all natural operations on homotopy groups of $p$-typical topological Cartier modules.
