Abstract:the action of the function on its Julia set is still ergodic if some, but not all of the asymptotic values land on infinity, and the remaining ones land on a compact repeller. In this paper, we complete the characterization of ergodicity for Nevanlinna functions but proving that if all the asymptotic values land on infinity, then the Julia set is the whole sphere and the action of the map there is non-ergodic.

Characteristics of A Meromorphic Function

Abstract:We characterize meromorphic functions in terms of points at which they assume some values. The purpose is realized by using their characteristics. In this chapter, we introduce the Nevanlinna's characteristic in a domain (especially in a disk centered at the origin), the Nevanlinna's characteristic in an angle and the Tsuji's characteristic in terms of the generalized Poisson formula, Carleman formula and Levin formula respectively. These formulae are derived from the second Green formula. Similarly, the introduction of the Ahlfors-Shimizu characteristic originates from the second Green formula from the point of view of analysis. We exhibit the first and second fundamental theorems for every type of characteristics and the estimates of error terms, especially that of corresponding error terms to the Nevanlinna's characteristic in an angle. The relationship among various characteristics and among the integrated counting functions are found out. These relationship make us to produce new results and applications. We compare the characteristics of meromorphic functions and their derivatives. Next in terms of the Ahlfors-Shimizu's characteristic for an angle, we make a careful discussion of value distribution of functions meromorphic in an angle, especially theorems of the Borel-type. Then we discuss deficiency and deficient values which includes an introduction to Baernstein's spread relation along with related results. Finally, we establish a series of unique theorems of meromorphic functions in an angle in terms of Tsuji's characteristic. This is a new topic.
On the formulas of meromorphic functions with periodic Herman rings

Abstract:We construct some explicit formulas of rational maps and transcendental meromorphic functions having Herman rings of period strictly larger than one. This gives an answer to a question raised by Shishikura in the 1980s. Moreover, the formulas of some rational maps with nested Herman rings are also found. To obtain the formulas of transcendental meromorphic functions having periodic Herman rings, a crucial step is to find an explicit family of transcendental entire functions having bounded Siegel disks of all possible periods and rotation numbers. This is based on proving the existence of a Mandelbrot-like set of period one in the corresponding parameter space.

Abstract:We consider some analytic behaviors (convexity, monotonicity and number of critical points) of the period function of period annuli of the potential system x¨+g(x)=0 and focus on the case when g(x) is a polynomial whose roots are all real. The main contributions of this paper are twofold: (i) analytic behaviors are given for the period functions of period annuli surrounding one or more and simple or degenerate equilibria; (ii) as a nontrivial application of the general conclusions in (i), a purely analytical and shorter proof is provided for a result for the case degg=4 recently obtained by Chengzhi Li and Kening Lu with some help of computer algebra [Chengzhi Li, Kening Lu, The period function of hyperelliptic Hamiltonian of degree 5 with real critical points, Nonlinearity 21 (2008) 465–483].

Abstract:We prove a functional transcendence theorem for the integrals of algebraic forms in families of algebraic varieties. This allows us to prove a geometric version of André's generalization of the Grothendieck period conjecture, which we state using the formalism of Nori motives. More precisely, we prove a version of the Ax--Schanuel conjecture for the comparison between the flat and algebraic coordinates of an arbitrary admissible graded polarizable variation of integral mixed Hodge structures. This can be seen as a generalization of the recent Ax--Schanuel theorems of \cite{chiu,GaoKlingler} for mixed period maps.

Abstract:In this paper, we prove a normal criteria for family of meromorphic functions. As an application of that result, we establish a uniqueness theorem for entire function concerning a conjecture of R. Bruck. The above uniqueness theorem is an improvement of a problem studied by L. Z. Yang et. al [14]. However, our method differs the method of L. Z. Yang et. al [14]. We mainly use normal family theory and combine it with Nevanlinna theory instead of using only the Nevanlinna theory as in [14].

Abstract:We give sufficient conditions in terms of the Melnikov functions in order that an analytic or a polynomial differential system in the real plane has a period annulus. We study the first nonzero Melnikov function of the analytic differential systems in the real plane obtained by perturbing a Hamiltonian system having either a nondegenerate center, a heteroclinic cycle, a homoclinic cycle, or three cycles obtained connecting the four separatrices of a saddle. All the singular points of these cycles are hyperbolic saddles. Finally, using the first nonzero Melnikov function we give a new proof of a result of Roussarie on the finite cyclicity of the homoclinic orbit of the integrable system when we perturb it inside the class of analytic differential systems.

Abstract:In this paper, by making use of properties of elliptic functions, we describe meromorphic solutions of Fermat-type functional equations $f(z)^{n}+f(L(z))^{m}=1$ over the complex plane $\mathbb{C}$, where $L(z)$ is a nonconstant entire function, $m$ and $n$ are two positive integers. As applications, we also consider meromorphic solutions of Fermat-type difference and $q$-difference equations.

Abstract:Based on the numerical evidences, an analytical expression of the Dirichlet-to-Neumann mapping in the form of infinite product was first conjectured for the one-dimensional characteristic Schrodinger equation with a sinusoidal potential in [Commun. Comput. Phys., 3(3): 641-658, 2008]. It was later extended for the general second-order characteristic elliptic equations with symmetric periodic coefficients in [J. Comp. Phys., 227: 6877-6894, 2008]. In this paper, we present a proof for this Dirichlet-to-Neumann mapping.

Abstract:In this article, we prove two results on the value distribution of meromorphic functions. Using the theorem of Yamanoi, the first result gives a precise estimation of the relationship between the characteristic function of a meromorphic function and its k th derivative in a concise form. This result extends and improves some results of Shan, Singh, Gopalakrishna, Edrei, Weitsman, Yang, Wu and Wu, etc. The second result answers a conjecture posed by C. C. Yang. This conjecture turned to be false by a counter-example, but it will be true with an additional condition.

On a question of Gary G. Gundersen concerning meromorphic functions sharing three distinct values IM and a fourth value CM

Abstract:In 1992, Gundersen (Complex Var. Elliptic Equ.20 (1992), no. 1-4, 99-106.) proposed the following famous open question: if two non-constant meromorphic functions share three values IM and share a fourth value CM, then do the functions necessarily share all four values CM? The open question is a long-standing question in the studies of the Nevanlinna$'$s value distribution theory of meromorphic functions, and has not been completely resolved by now. In this paper, we prove that if two distinct non-constant meromorphic functions $f$ and $g$ of finite order share $0,$ $1,$ $c$ IM and $\infty$ CM, where $c$ is a finite complex value such that $c\not\in\{0,1\},$ then $f$ and $g$ share $0,$ $1,$ $c,$ $\infty$ CM. Applying the main result obtained in this paper, we completely resolve a question proposed by Gary G. Gundersen on Page 458 of his paper (J. London Math. Soc. 20(1979), no. 2, 457-466.)concerning the nonexistence of two distinct non-constant meromorphic functions sharing three distinct values DM and a fourth value CM. The obtained result also improves the corresponding result on Pages 109-117 in (E. Mues, Bemerkungen zum vier-punkte-satz, Complex Methods on Partial Diferential Equations, 109-117, Math. Res. 53, Akademie-Verlag, Berlin, 1989.) concerning the nonexistence of two distinct non-constant entire functions that share three distinct finite values DM. Examples are provided to show that the main results obtained in this paper, in a sense, are best possible.

Abstract:This paper concerns entire and meromorphic solutions of the generalized Fermat Diophantine functional equations hf(p) + kg(q) = 1 in C-n, where h, k are meromorphic coefficients in several complex variables and p, q >= 1 are integers with (p, q) not equal (1, 1). As applications, we determine when entire solutions of the simple-looking functional equation f(p) + g(q) = 1 in C reduce to constant and then apply the result to show two well-known Picard type theorems in a direct manner.

Abstract:Let f be a transcendental meromorphic function on the complex plane ℂ, let a be a non-zero finite complex number and let n and k be two positive integers. In this paper, we prove that if n≥k+1, then $\smash{f+a(f^{(k)})^n}$ assumes each value b∈ℂ infinitely often. Also, the related normal criterion for families of meromorphic functions is given. Our results generalize the related results of Fang and Zalcman.

Abstract:Let $P(z)$ be a polynomial of degree $n\geq 1$ and $S(z)$ be a nonzero rational function. It is shown that if $f(z)$ is a meromorphic solution of the first order differential equation $f'(z)=S(z)e^{P(z)}f(z)+1$, then there is a curve $\Gamma: x\to x+iy(x)$, where $x_0\leq x<\infty$ and $\pi<nx^{n-1}y<3\pi/2$ such that for all $z\in \Gamma$, \begin{equation}\tag† |f(z)|> \exp\left(\frac{1}{8}e^{\frac{1}{8}x^{n}}\right). \end{equation} The estimate in $(†)$ together with the Wiman--Valiron theory implies that the hyper-order $\varsigma(f)$ of $f(z)$ is equal to $n$, which allows to specify the class $N$ in complex dynamics. Moreover, this provides partial answers to Brück's conjecture in uniqueness theory and also a problem on a second order algebraic differential equation of Hayman.

Abstract:In this paper, we defined a new family of meromorphic functions whose analytic characterization was motivated by the definition of the multiplicative derivative. Replacing the ordinary derivative with a multiplicative derivative in the subclass of starlike meromorphic functions made the class redundant; thus, major deviation or adaptation was required in defining a class of meromorphic functions influenced by the multiplicative derivative. In addition, we redefined the subclass of meromorphic functions analogous to the class of the functions with respect to symmetric points. Initial coefficient estimates and Fekete–Szegö inequalities were obtained for the defined function classes. Some examples along with graphs have been used to establish the inclusion and closure properties.

Non-vanishing of geodesic periods of automorphic forms

Abstract:We prove that one hundred percent of closed geodesic periods of a Maaß form for the modular group are non-vanishing when ordered by length. We present applications to the non-vanishing of central values of Rankin--Selberg $L$-functions. Similar results for holomorphic forms for general Fuchsian groups of the first kind with a cusp are also obtained, as well as results towards normal distribution.
