Abstract:Introduction: Risk factors for serrated polyps (SPs) are not well understood. Methods: Multivariable analyses of data from a multicenter colonoscopy-based study estimated odds ratios for having either a sessile serrated lesion (SSL) or traditional serrated adenoma (TSA) according to participant characteristics. Results: 6278 participants were included in the analyses (565 with either an SSL or TSA). White race was associated with higher risk of SPs compared to Black race (aOR 4.64, 95% CI 1.89, 11.41). Obesity and current smoking were also associated with higher risk of SPs. Conclusions: White race, smoking, and obesity are risk factors for precancerous SPs.
