Abstract:Sampaio recently showed that bi-Lipschitz homeomorphic subanalytic sets have bi-Lipschitz homeomorphic tangent cones. The purpose of this note is to show that Sampaio's method works as well for (SSP) sets, that is, the above result is characteristic for (SSP) sets, a much wider class.

Abstract:In this paper we study fundamental directional properties of sets under the assumption of condition (SSP) (introduced in [ 3]). We show several transversality theorems in the singular case and an (SSP)-structure preserving theorem. As a geometric illustration, our transversality results are used to prove several facts concerning complex analytic varieties in 3.3. Also, using our results on sets with condition (SSP), we give a classification of spirals in the appendix 5. The (SSP)-property is most suitable for understanding transversality in the Lipschitz category. This property is shared by a large class of sets, in particular by subanalytic sets or by definable sets in an o-minimal structure.

Abstract:In this paper, we study some properties of s-spaces. By means of the addition theorem and the theory of remainders,the following properties are established: (1)if an s-space X is the union of a countable family of metrizable subspaces,then X is sequential;(2)if G is a non-locally compact topological group with a compactification bG such that Y =bG\G is hereditarily an s-space, then either G is separable and metrizable, or G is σ-compact, which generalize and improve some results about s-spaces by Arhangel'skii.
The Lipschitz type of the Geometric Directional Bundle

Abstract:In this paper we investigate the behaviour of the geometric directional bundles, associated to arbitrary subsets in R^n, under bi-Lipschitz homeomorphisms, and give conditions under which their bi-Lipschitz type is preserved. The most general sets we consider satisfy the sequence selection property (SSP) and, consequently, we investigate the behaviour of such sets under bi-Lipschitz homeomorphisms as well. In particular, we show that the bi-Lipschitz images of a subanalytic sets generically satisfy the (SSP) property.

Abstract:In the first part of this article, we review a formalism of local zeta integrals attached to spherical reductive prehomogeneous vector spaces, which partially extends M. Sato's theory by incorporating the generalized matrix coefficients of admissible representations. We summarize the basic properties of these integrals such as the convergence, meromorphic continuation and an abstract functional equation. In the second part, we prove a generalization that accommodates certain non-spherical spaces. As an application, the resulting theory applies to the prehomogeneous vector space underlying Bhargava's cubes, which is also considered by F. Sato and Suzuki-Wakatsuki in their study of toric periods.

Abstract:A ring R is called right SSP (SIP) if the sum (intersection) of any two direct summands of R R is also a direct summand. Left SSP (SIP) rings are defined similarly. There are several interesting results on rings with SSP. For example, R is right SSP if and only if R is left SSP, and R is a von Neumann regular ring if and only if M n ( R ) is SSP for some n > 1. It is shown that R is a semisimple ring if and only if the column finite matrix ring CFM N ( R ) is SSP, where N is the set of natural numbers. Some known results are proved in an easy way through idempotents of rings. Moreover, some new results on SSP rings are given.

On a Geometric Interpretation Of the Subset Sum Problem

Abstract:For $S \in \mathbb{N}^n$ and $T \in \mathbb{N}$, the Subset Sum Problem (SSP) $\exists^? x \in \{0,1\}^n $ such that $S^T\cdot x = T$ can be interpreted as the problem of deciding whether the intersection of the positive unit hypercube $Q_n = [0,1]^n$ with the hyperplane $S^T\cdot \left(x - \frac{S}{\|S\|^2 }\cdot T \right) = 0$ contains at least a vertex. In this paper, we give an algorithm of complexity $\mathcal{O}\left( \frac{1}{\epsilon}\cdot n^b \right)$, for some absolute constant $b$, which either proves that there are no vertices in a slab of thickness $\epsilon$ either finds a vertex in the slab of thickness $4\cdot \epsilon$. It is shown that any vertex $P$ in a slab of thickness $\epsilon$ meets $\left| \frac{S^T\cdot P}{T} - 1 \right| \leq \epsilon$, therefore making the proposed algorithm a FPTAS for the SSP. The results are then applied to the study of the so called Simultaneous Subset-Sum Problem (SSSP).

Abstract:This note concerns the finite interpolation problem with two parametrized families of splines related to polynomial spline interpolation. We address the questions of uniqueness and establish basic convergence rates for splines of the form $ s_\alpha = p\cosh(\alpha\cdot)+q\sinh(\alpha \cdot)$ and $t_\alpha = p+q\tanh(\alpha \cdot) $ between the nodes where $p,q\in\Pi_{k-1}$.

A note on subvarieties of powers of OT-manifolds

Abstract:It is shown that the space of finite-to-finite holomorphic correspondences on an OT-manifold is discrete. When the OT-manifold has no proper infinite complex-analytic subsets, it then follows by known model-theoretic results that its cartesian powers have no interesting complex-analytic families of subvarieties. The methods of proof, which are similar to [Moosa, Moraru, and Toma ``An essentially saturated surface not of Kähler-type", {\em Bull. of the LMS}, 40(5):845--854, 2008], require studying finite unramified covers of OT-manifolds.

Abstract:I take a constructive look at Dieter Spreen's treatment of effective topological spaces and the Kreisel-Lacombe-Shoenfield-Tseitin (KLST) continuity theorem. Transferring Spreen's ideas from classical computability theory and numbered sets to a constructive setting leads to a theory of topological spaces, in fact two of them: a locale-theoretic one embodied by the notion of $\sigma$-frames, and a pointwise one that follows more closely traditional topology. Spreen's notion of effective limit passing turns out to be closely related to sobriety, while his witnesses for non-inclusion give rise to a novel separation property - any point separated from an overt subset by a semidecidable subset is already separated from it by an open one. I name spaces with this property Spreen spaces, and show that they give rise to a purely constructive continuity theorem: every map from an overt Spreen space to a pointwise regular space is pointwise continuous. The theorem is easily proved, but finding non-trivial examples of Spreen spaces is harder. I show that they are plentiful in synthetic computability theory.

Abstract:The purpose of this paper is to introduce bi-parameter mixed Lipschitz spaces and characterize them via the Littlewood-Paley theory. As an application, we derive a boundedness criterion for singular integral operators in a mixed Journé class on mixed Lipschitz spaces. Key elements of the paper are the development of the Littlewood-Paley theory for a special mixed Besov spaces, and a density argument for the mixed Lipschitz spaces in the weak sense.

Abstract:The Sum-of-Squares (SOS) approximation method is a technique used in optimization problems to derive lower bounds on the optimal value of an objective function. By representing the objective function as a sum of squares in a feature space, the SOS method transforms non-convex global optimization problems into solvable semidefinite programs. This note presents an overview of the SOS method. We start with its application in finite-dimensional feature spaces and, subsequently, we extend it to infinite-dimensional feature spaces using reproducing kernels (k-SOS). Additionally, we highlight the utilization of SOS for estimating some relevant quantities in information theory, including the log-partition function.

Abstract:Let $\sigma_q : \mathbb{R}^q \to {\bf S}^q \setminus N_q$ be the inverse of the stereographic projection with centre the north pole $N_q$. Let $W_i$ be a closed subset of $\mathbb{R}^{q_i}$, for $i=1,2$. Let $\Phi:W_1 \to W_2$ be a bi-Lipschitz homeomorphism. The main result states that the homeomorphism $\sigma_{q_2}\circ \Phi \circ \sigma_{q_1}^{-1}$ is a bi-Lipschitz homeomorphism, extending bi-Lipschitz-ly at $N_{q_1}$ with value $N_{q_2}$ whenever $W_1$ is unbounded. As two straightforward applications in the polynomially bounded o-minimal context over the real numbers, we obtain for free a version at infinity of: 1) Sampaio's tangent cone result; 2) Links preserving re-parametrization of definable bi-Lipschitz homeomorphisms of Valette.

A Weitzenböck formula on Sasakian holomorphic bundles

Abstract:This work seeks to advance the understanding of the smooth structure of the moduli space of self-dual contact instantons (SDCI) on Sasakian 7-manifolds M. A neighborhood of a smooth point of M is locally modeled on the first cohomological group of an elliptic complex (1.4). There is a cohomological obstruction to the smoothness for the moduli space, in terms of a second basic cohomological group, in this paper we study conditions under which this obstruction disappears, by computing a Weitzenböck formula and using a Bochner-type method to obtain a vanishing theorem. Given an SDCI on a Sasakian bundle E, we find sufficient conditions for the vanishing of the obstruction in the positivity of a couple of operators R and F depending on the curvatures of the connection and the Riemann curvature of the Sasakian metric g. In particular, we find that if M is transversely Ricci positive and F positive, the moduli space of SDCI must be smooth. However, in general, the operator F is not positive definite and we describe bundles over the Stiefel manifold for which it is the case. Finally, we show that when the energy of the curvature is less than the first non-zero eigenvalue of RicT the obstruction vanishes.

Abstract:We describe the surjective isometries of the unit sphere of real Schreier spaces of all orders and their $p$-convexifications, for $1 < p < \infty$. This description allows us to provide for those spaces a positive answer to a special case of Tingley's problem, which asks whether every surjective isometry of the unit sphere of a real Banach space can be extended to a linear isometry of the entire space.

Abstract:The geometric theory of pseudo-differential and Fourier Integral Operators relies on the symplectic structure of cotangent bundles. If one is to study calculi with some specific feature adapted to a geometric situation, the corresponding notion of cotangent bundle needs to be adapted as well and leads to spaces with a singular symplectic structure. Analysing these singularities is a necessary step in order to construct the calculus itself. In this article we provide some new insights into the symplectic structures arising from asymptotically Euclidean manifolds. In particular, we study the action of the Poisson bracket on $SG$-pseudo-differential operators and define a new class of singular symplectomorphisms, taking into account the geometric picture. We then consider this notion in the context of the characterisation of order-preserving isomorphisms of the $SG$-algebra, and show that these are in fact given by conjugation with a Fourier Integral Operator of $SG$-type.

Abstract:We study border varieties of sums of powers ($\underline{\mathrm{VSP}}$'s for short), recently introduced by Buczyńska and Buczyński, parameterizing border rank decompositions of a point (e.g. of a tensor or a homogeneous polynomial) with respect to a smooth projective toric variety and living in the Haiman-Sturmfels multigraded Hilbert scheme. Their importance stems from the role of border tensor rank in theoretical computer science, especially in the estimation of the exponent of matrix multiplication, a fundamental and still unknown quantity in the theory of computation. We compare $\underline{\mathrm{VSP}}$'s to other well-known loci in the Hilbert scheme, parameterizing scheme-theoretic versions of decompositions. The latter ones are crucial in that they naturally explain the existing severe barriers to giving good lower bounds on ranks. We introduce the notion of border identifiability and provide sufficient criteria for its appearance, which rely on the multigraded regularity of Maclagan and Smith. We link border identifiability to wildness of points. Finally, we determine $\underline{\mathrm{VSP}}$'s in several instances and regimes, in the contexts of tensors and homogeneous polynomials. These include concise $3$-tensors of minimal border rank and in particular of border rank three.
