Abstract:The point of this short note concerns with two facts on the scheme of secant loci. The first one is an attempt to describe the tangent cone of these schemes globally and the second one is a comparision on the dimension of the tangent spaces of various schemes of secant loci.

Abstract:We determine non hyper elliptic curves of genus $g(C)\geq 9$, such that for some very ample line bundle on them and for some integers d and r with some prescribed assumptions, the dimension of secant loci, attains one less than its maximum value. Then we proceed to generalize and extend a problem of M. Coppens to Secant Loci.

Abstract:We study the notion of algebraic tangent cones at singularities of reflexive sheaves. These correspond to extensions of reflexive sheaves across a negative divisor. We show the existence of optimal extensions in a constructive manner, and we prove the uniqueness in a suitable sense. The results here are an algebro-geometric counterpart of our previous study on singularities of Hermitian-Yang-Mills connections.
The S" fixed points in Quot-schemes

Abstract:We describe the S*-action on the Quot-scheme Quot (8”) associated to the trivial bundle &"= CP x C". In particlular, the topology of the S*-fixed-point components in Quot (8”) and the S*-weights of the normal bundle of these components are worked out. Mirror Principle, as developed by three of the current authors in the series of work [LL-Y1, I, II, III, IV], is a method for studying certain intersection numbers on a stable map moduli space. As an application, in Mirror Principle III, Sec 5.4, an outline was given in the case of genus zero with target a flag manifold. The results on S'fixed points in this paper are used here to do explicit Mir-ror Principle computations in the case of Grassmannian manifolds. In fact, Mirror Principle computations involve only a certain distinguished subcol-lection of the S*-fixed-point components. These components are identified and are labelled by Young tableaus. The S*-equivariant Euler class es1 of the normal bundle to these components is computed. A diagrammatic rule that allows one to write down es1 directly from the Young tableau is given. From this, the aforementioned intersection numbers on the moduli space of stable maps can be worked out. Two examples are given to illustrate our method. Using the method, the A-model for Calabi-Yau complete intersections in a Grassmannian manifold can now also be computed explicitly. This work is motivated by the intention to provide further details of mirror principle and to understand the relation of mirror principle to physical theory. Some related questions are listed for further study.

Abstract:In this paper we describe some recent results on the geometry of the moduli space of Riemann surfaces. We surveyed new and classical metrics on the moduli spaces of hyperbolic Riemann surfaces and their geometric properties. We then discussed the Mumford goodness and generalized goodness of various metrics on the moduli spaces and their deformation invariance. By combining with the dual Nakano negativity of the Weil-Petersson metric we derive various consequences such that the infinitesimal rigidity, the Gauss-Bonnet theorem and the log Chern number computations.

Abstract:We study the tangential case in 2-dimensional almost-Riemannian geometry. We analyse the connection with the Martinet case in sub-Riemannian geometry. We compute estimations of the exponential map which allow us to describe the conjugate locus and the cut locus at a tangency point. We prove that this last one generically accumulates at the tangency point as an asymmetric cusp whose branches are separated by the singular set.

Abstract:In this paper we study the analytic tangent cones of admissible Hermitian-Yang-Mills connections near a homogeneous singularity of a reflexive sheaf, and relate it to the Harder-Narasimhan-Seshadri filtration. We also give an algebro-geometric characterization of the bubbling set. This strengthens our previous result.

Abstract:There is an abstract notion of connection in any tangent category. In this paper, we show that when applied to the tangent category of affine schemes, this recreates the classical notion of a connection on a module (and similarly, in the tangent category of schemes, this recreates the notion of connection on a quasi-coherent sheaf of modules). By contrast, we also show that in the tangent category of algebras, there are no non-trivial connections.

Abstract:We provide conjectural necessary and (separately) sufficient conditions for the Hilbert scheme of points of a given length to have the maximum dimension tangent space at a point. The sufficient condition is claimed for 3D and reduces the original problem to a problem in convex geometry. Proving either of the two conjectural statements will in particular resolve a long-standing conjecture by Briançon and Iarrobino back in the '70s for the case of the powers of the maximal ideal. Furthermore, for specific classes of lengths, we conjecturally classify points satisfying the conjectural sufficient conditions. This in particular (conjecturally) provides many new explicit families of examples of maximum dimension tangent space at a point of the Hilbert schemes of points of lengths strictly between two consecutive tetrahedral numbers (3+k3) .

Tangent spaces on the trianguline variety at companion points

Abstract:Many results about the geometry of the trianguline variety have been obtained by Breuil-Hellmann-Schraen. Among them, using geometric methods, they have computed a formula for the dimension of the tangent space of the trianguline variety at dominant crystalline generic points, which has a conjectural generalisation to companion (i.e. non-dominant) points. In an earlier work, they proved a weaker form of this formula under the assumption of modularity using arithmetic methods. We prove a generalisation of a result of Bellaïche-Chenevier in p-adic Hodge theory and use it to extend the arithmetic methods of Breuil-Hellmann-Schraen to a wide class of companion points.

Abstract:In this paper, we study the tangent cone of numerical semigroup rings with small embedding dimension $d$. For $d=3$, we give characterizations of the Buchsbaum and Cohen-Macaulay properties and for $d=4$, we give a characterization of the Gorenstein property. In particular, when $d=4$ and the tangent cone is Gorenstein, the initial form ideal of the defining ideal is 5-generated.

Abstract:Let $X_1,\cdots,X_m$ be vector fields satisfying Hörmander's Lie bracket generating condition on a smooth manifold $M$. We generalise Connes's tangent groupoid, by constructing a completion of the space $M\times M\times \mathbb{R}_+^\times$ using the sub-Riemannian metric. We use our space to calculate all the tangent cones of the sub-Riemannian metric in the sense of the Gromov-Hausdorff distance. This generalises a result of Bellaïche.

Abstract:We discuss the cone and contraction theorem in a suitable complex analytic setting. More precisely, we establish the cone and contraction theorem of normal pairs for projective morphisms between complex analytic spaces. This result is a starting point of the minimal model program for complex analytic log canonical pairs. In this paper, we are mainly interested in normal pairs whose singularities are worse than kawamata log terminal singularities.

Abstract:Let $X\subset\mathbb{C}^m$ be an unbounded pure $k$-dimensional algebraic set. We define the tangent cones $C_{4, \infty}(X)$ and $C_{5,\infty}(X)$ of $X$ at infinity. We establish some of their properties and relations. We prove that $X$ must be an affine linear subspace of $\mathbb{C}^m$ provided that $C_{5, \infty}(X)$ has pure dimension $k$. Also, we study the relation between the tangent cones at infinity and representations of $X$ outside a compact set as a branched covering. Our results can be seen as versions at infinity of results of Whitney and Stutz.

We prove that these cones are closed convex and show a characterization of their interiors. We then study subgradients at infinity for extended real value functions on [math] and derive necessary optimality conditions at infinity for optimization problems. We also give a number of rules for the computing of subgradients at infinity and provide some characterizations of the Lipschitz continuity at infinity for lower semicontinuous functions.

Abstract:The $r$-th cactus variety of a subvariety $X$ in a projective space generalizes the $r$-th secant variety of $X$ and it is defined using linear spans of finite subschemes of $X$ of degree $r$. One of its original purposes was to study the vanishing sets of catalecticant minors. In this article, we equip the cactus variety with a scheme structure, via ``relative linear spans'' of families of finite schemes over a potentially non-reduced base. In this way, we are able to study the vanishing scheme of the catalecticant minors. For a sufficiently high degree Veronese variety, we show that $r$-th cactus scheme and the zero scheme of appropriate catalecticant minors agree on a dense open subset which is the complement of the $(r-1)$-th cactus variety (or scheme). This article is the first part of a series. In the follow-up, as an application, we can describe the singular locus of (in particular) secant varieties to high degree Veronese varieties in terms of singularities of the Hilbert scheme. We will also generalize the result to high degree Veronese reembeddings of other varieties and schemes.
