Abstract:We prove that an $(n+1)$-dimensional spin static vacuum with negative cosmological constant whose null infinity has a boundary admitting a non-trivial Killing spinor field is the AdS spacetime. As a consequence, we generalize previous uniqueness results by X. Wang \cite{Wa2} and by Chru{ś}ciel-Herzlich \cite{CH} and introduce, for this class of spin static vacua, some Lorentzian manifolds which are prohibited as null infinities.

Uniqueness of the extremal Schwarzschild de Sitter spacetime

Abstract:We prove that any analytic vacuum spacetime with a positive cosmological constant in four and higher dimensions, that contains a static extremal Killing horizon with a maximally symmetric compact cross-section, must be locally isometric to either the extremal Schwarzschild de Sitter solution or its near-horizon geometry (the Nariai solution). In four-dimensions, this implies these solutions are the only analytic vacuum spacetimes that contain a static extremal horizon with compact cross-sections (up to identifications). We also consider the analogous uniqueness problem for the four-dimensional extremal hyperbolic Schwarzschild anti-de Sitter solution and show that it reduces to a spectral problem for the laplacian on compact hyperbolic surfaces, if a cohomological obstruction to the uniqueness of infinitesimal transverse deformations of the horizon is absent.

On the uniqueness of higher-spin symmetries in AdS and CFT

Abstract:We study the uniqueness of higher-spin algebras which are at the core of higher-spin theories in AdS and of CFTs with exact higher-spin symmetry, i.e. conserved tensors of rank greater than two. The Jacobi identity for the gauge algebra is the simplest consistency test that appears at the quartic order for a gauge theory. Similarly, the algebra of charges in a CFT must also obey the Jacobi identity. These algebras are essentially the same. Solving the Jacobi identity under some simplifying assumptions spelled out, we obtain that the Eastwood-Vasiliev algebra is the unique solution for d=4 and d>6. In 5d there is a one-parameter family of algebras that was known before. In particular, we show that the introduction of a single higher-spin gauge field/current automatically requires the infinite tower of higher-spin gauge fields/currents. The result implies that from all the admissible non-Abelian cubic vertices in AdS(d), that have been recently classified for totally symmetric higher-spin gauge fields, only one vertex can pass the Jacobi consistency test. This cubic vertex is associated with a gauge deformation that is the germ of the Eastwood-Vasiliev's higher-spin algebra.

Uniqueness of the static vacuum asymptotically flat spacetimes with massive particle spheres

Abstract:In this paper, we establish that a four-dimensional static vacuum asymptotically flat spacetime containing a massive particle sphere is isometric to the Schwarzschild spacetime. Our results expand upon existing uniqueness theorems for static vacuum asymptotically flat spacetimes, which focus on scenarios featuring event horizons or photon spheres. Similarly to the uniqueness theorems concerning photon spheres or event horizons, only a single massive particle sphere is sufficient to obtain a unique solution. However, in contrast to previous theorems, our result leads to the existence of an entire spacetime foliation sliced by a set of massive particle spheres spanning various energies.

Abstract:Given an extendible spacetime one may ask how much, if any, uniqueness can in general be expected of the extension. Locally, this question was considered and comprehensively answered in a recent paper of Sbierski, where he obtains local uniqueness results for anchored spacetime extensions of similar character to earlier work for conformal boundaries by Chruściel. Globally, it is known that non-uniqueness can arise from timelike geodesics behaving pathologically in the sense that there exist points along two distinct timelike geodesics which become arbitrarily close to each other interspersed with points which do not approach each other. We show that this is in some sense the only obstruction to uniqueness of maximal future boundaries: Working with extensions that are manifolds with boundary we prove that, under suitable assumptions on the regularity of the considered extensions and excluding the existence of such ''intertwined timelike geodesics'', extendible spacetimes admit a unique maximal future boundary extension. This is analogous to results of Chruściel for the conformal boundary.

Abstract:We study the space of Killing fields on the four dimensional AdS spacetime $AdS^{3,1}$. Two subsets ${\mathcal {S}}$ and ${\mathcal {O}}$ are identified: ${\mathcal {S}}$ (the spinor Killing fields) is constructed from imaginary Killing spinors, and ${\mathcal {O}}$ (the observer Killing fields) consists of all hypersurface orthogonal, future timelike unit Killing fields. When the cosmology constant vanishes, or in the Minkowski spacetime case, these two subsets have the same convex hull in the space of Killing fields. In presence of the cosmology constant, the convex hull of $ {\mathcal {O}}$ is properly contained in that of ${\mathcal {S}}$. This leads to two different notions of energy for an asymptotically AdS spacetime, the spinor energy and the observer energy. Chruściel et al. (J High Energy Phys 2006(11):084, 2006) proved the positivity of the spinor energy and derived important consequences among the related conserved quantities. We show that the positivity of the observer energy follows from the positivity of the spinor energy. A new notion called the “rest mass” of an asymptotically AdS spacetime is then defined by minimizing the observer energy and is shown to be evaluated in terms of the adjoint representation of the Lie algebra of Killing fields. It is proved that the rest mass has the desirable rigidity property that characterizes the AdS spacetime.
The Spacetime Penrose Inequality for Cohomogeneity One Initial Data

Abstract:We prove the spacetime Penrose inequality for asymptotically flat $2(n+1)$-dimensional initial data sets for the Einstein equations, which are invariant under a cohomogeneity one action of $\mathrm{SU}(n+1)$. Analogous results are obtained for asymptotically hyperbolic initial data that arise as spatial hypersurfaces in asymptotically Anti de-Sitter spacetimes. More precisely, it is shown that with the dominant energy condition, the total mass is bounded below by an explicit function of the outermost apparent horizon area. Furthermore, the inequality is saturated if and only if the initial data isometrically embed into a Schwarzschild(-AdS) spacetime. This generalizes the only previously known case of the conjectured spacetime Penrose inequality, established under the assumption of spherical symmetry. Additionally, in the time symmetric case, we observe that the inequality holds for $4(n+1)$-dimensional and 16-dimensional initial data invariant under cohomogeneity one actions of $\mathrm{Sp}(n+1)$ and $\mathrm{Spin}(9)$, respectively, thus treating the inequality for all cohomogeneity one actions in this regime.

Uniqueness of extremal charged black holes in de Sitter

Abstract:We prove a uniqueness theorem for the charged Nariai black holes and ultracold black holes in four dimensions. In particular, we show that an analytic solution to four-dimensional Einstein-Maxwell theory with a positive cosmological constant containing a static extremal Killing horizon with spherical cross-sections of large radius (compared to the cosmological scale), must be locally isometric to the extremal Reissner-Nordström-de Sitter black hole or its near-horizon geometry. The theorem generalises to extremal static horizons with small radius, establishing uniqueness of cold black holes for generic values of the radius.

Abstract:We study the class of vacuum (Ricci flat) six-dimensional spacetimes admitting a non-degenerate multiple Weyl aligned null direction l, thus being of Weyl type II or more special. Subject to an additional assumption on the asymptotic fall-off of the Weyl tensor, we prove that these spacetimes can be completely classified in terms of the two eigenvalues of the (asymptotic) twist matrix of l and of a discrete parameter $U^0=\pm 1/2, 0$. All solutions turn out to be Kerr-Schild spacetimes of type D and reduce to a family of "generalized" Myers-Perry metrics (which include limits and analytic continuations of the original Myers-Perry black hole metric, such as certain NUT spacetimes). A special subcase corresponds to twisting solutions with zero shear. In passing, limits connecting various branches of solutions are briefly discussed.

Abstract:Abstract Given a function $f: A \to{\mathbb{R}}^{n}$ of a certain regularity defined on some open subset $A \subseteq{\mathbb{R}}^{m}$, it is a classical problem of analysis to investigate whether the function can be extended to all of ${\mathbb{R}}^{m}$ in a certain regularity class. If an extension exists and is continuous, then certainly it is uniquely determined on the closure of $A$. A similar problem arises in general relativity for Lorentzian manifolds instead of functions on ${\mathbb{R}}^{m}$. It is well-known, however, that even if the extension of a Lorentzian manifold $(M,g)$ is analytic, various choices are in general possible at the boundary. This paper establishes a uniqueness condition for extensions of globally hyperbolic Lorentzian manifolds $(M,g)$ with a focus on low regularities: any two extensions that are anchored by an inextendible causal curve $\gamma : [-1,0) \to M$ in the sense that $\gamma $ has limit points in both extensions must agree locally around those limit points on the boundary as long as the extensions are at least locally Lipschitz continuous. We also show that this is sharp: anchored extensions that are only Hölder continuous do in general not enjoy this local uniqueness result.

Because all of the solutions belong to the sector with vanishing scalar fields, they share peculiar trait that all conserved charges are vanishing.

Abstract:In the $N=1$ superspace, AdS$_4$ supersymmetry is realized as the non-linear super coordinate transformations. The fermionic coordinates form a faithful non-linear representation of supersymmetry on their own. By introducing an auxiliary scalar coordinate, this representation is reformulated as a 5-dimensional linear representation, i.e., the superspinor representation. New linear representations are constructed by tensor products of multiple superspinors. Especially, the superspace bosonic coordinates are embedded in the supervector representation, which is the traceless symmetric part of the bi-superspinor representation. Based on these linear representations, the $N=1$ AdS$_4$ supergravity action can be reproduced in a manifestly supersymmetry-covariant way.

Abstract:This paper proves the stability, with respect to the evolution determined by the vacuum Einstein equations, of the Cartesian product of high-dimensional Minkowski space with a compact, Ricci-flat Riemannian manifold that admits a spin structure and a nonzero parallel spinor. Such a product includes the example of Calabi-Yau and other special holonomy compactifications, which play a central role in supergravity and string theory. The stability proved in this paper provides a counter example to an instability argument by Penrose.

Abstract:In spacetime dimensions $n+1\geq 4$, we show the existence of solutions of the Einstein vacuum equations which describe asymptotically de Sitter spacetimes with prescribed smooth data at the conformal boundary. This provides a short alternative proof of a special case of a result by Shlapentokh-Rothman and Rodnianski, and generalizes earlier results by Friedrich and Anderson to all dimensions.

Abstract:We revisit the previously known local inversion symmetry of the five-dimensional Kerr-AdS metric that relates the over-rotating black hole to the under-rotating one and reinterpret it as an interchanging symmetry between time and the longitudinal angular coordinates. We generalize this to all $D$ dimensions, including $D=4$, thereby enlarging the trivial linear $\mathbb Z_N$ symmetry of the $N=\lfloor(D-1)/2\rfloor$ longitudinal angular coordinates to the nonlinearly realized $\mathbb Z_{N+1}$ symmetry that involves time.
