What problem does this paper attempt to address?
This paper aims to evaluate the impact of a mentor-guided program on the exam anxiety levels and pre-internship exam scores of senior nursing students. The study was conducted at the School of Medical Sciences, Sava University in Iran, using a quasi-experimental design, randomly assigning 37 sixth-semester nursing students into a control group (19 individuals) and an intervention group (17 individuals). The intervention group received a two-week, six-session mentor-guided course one month prior to the pre-internship exam. The research instruments included a demographic questionnaire, the Sarason Anxiety Scale, and pre-internship exam scores. The study found that there was no significant difference in anxiety levels between the two groups before the intervention. However, after the intervention, the average anxiety scores of the intervention group were significantly lower than those of the control group, indicating that the mentor-guided program helped reduce exam anxiety. Additionally, the pre-internship exam scores of the intervention group were significantly higher than those of the control group, demonstrating the positive effect of mentor guidance on student performance. In conclusion, a mentor-guided program can reduce exam anxiety among nursing students and improve their pre-internship exam scores. This suggests that introducing a mentorship system in nursing education may be a beneficial strategy to help students better cope with stress, enhance clinical skills, and boost confidence.
