Abstract:We introduce a method for producing congruences between Hecke eigenclasses, possibly torsion, in the coherent cohomology of automorphic vector bundles on certain good reduction Shimura varieties. The congruences are produced using some "generalized Hasse invariants" adapted to the Ekedahl-Oort stratification of the special fiber.

Then, we generalize Vafa-Witten's notion of discrete torsion to general orbifold and examine its relation to local system. Finally, some examples are computed.

Abstract:We show that Lubin-Tate spectra at the prime $2$ are Real oriented and Real Landweber exact. The proof is by application of the Goerss-Hopkins-Miller theorem to algebras with involution. For each height $n$, we compute the entire homotopy fixed point spectral sequence for $E_n$ with its $C_2$-action given by the formal inverse. We study, as the height varies, the Hurewicz images of the stable homotopy groups of spheres in the homotopy of these $C_2$-fixed points.

Abstract:Recently Dabrowski etc. \cite{DL} obtained the metric and Einstein functionals by two vector fields and Laplace-type operators over vector bundles, giving an interesting example of the spinor connection and square of the Dirac operator. Pf$\ddot{a}$ffle and Stephan \cite{PS1} considered orthogonal connections with arbitrary torsion on compact Riemannian manifolds and computed the spectral action. Motivated by the spectral functionals and Dirac operators with torsion, we give some new spectral functionals which is the extension of spectral functionals to the noncommutative realm with torsion, and we relate them to the noncommutative residue for manifolds with boundary. Our method of producing these spectral functionals is the noncommutative residue and Dirac operators with torsion.

Abstract:Suppose $C$ is a smooth projective curve of genus 1 over a perfect field $F$, and $E$ is its Jacobian. In the case that $C$ has no $F$-rational points, so that $C$ and $E$ are not isomorphic, $C$ is an $E$-torsor with a class $\delta(C)\in H^1(\text{Gal}(\bar F/F), E(\bar F))$. Then $\delta(C)$ determines a class $\beta \in \text{Br}(E)/\text{Br}(F)$ and there is a Fourier-Mukai equivalence of derived categories of (twisted) coherent sheaves $\mathcal D(C) \xrightarrow{\cong} \mathcal D(E, \beta^{-1})$. We generalize this result to higher dimensions; namely, we prove it also for torsors over abelian varieties.

Abstract:This paper gives an explicit computation of the category of constructible sheaves on a toric variety (with respect to the stratification by torus orbits). Over the complex numbers, this simplifies a description due to Braden and Lunts. The same computation is carried out for split toric varieties over an arbitrary field, for constructible étale sheaves whose restriction to each stratum is locally constant and tamely ramified. This gives the first explicit computation of an étale exodromy theorem in positive characteristic for a stratification over a partially ordered set of height greater than 1.

Abstract:Let $X$ be a locally symmetric variety, i.e., the quotient of a bounded symmetric domain by a (say) neat arithmetically-defined group of isometries. Let ${\overline X}^{\rm exc}$ and $X^{{\rm tor,exc}}$ denote its excentric Borel-Serre and toroidal compactifications respectively. We determine their least common modification and use it to prove a conjecture of Goresky and Tai concerning canonical extensions of homogeneous vector bundles. In the process, we see that ${\overline X}^{\rm exc}$ and $X^{{\rm tor,exc}}$ are homotopy equivalent.

Singularities of orthogonal and symplectic determinantal varieties

Abstract:Let either $GL(E)\times SO(F)$ or $GL(E)\times Sp(F)$ act naturally on the space of matrices $E\otimes F$. There are only finitely many orbits, and the orbit closures are orthogonal and symplectic generalizations of determinantal varieties, which can be described similarly using rank conditions. In this paper, we study the singularities of these varieties and describe their defining equations. We prove that in the symplectic case, the orbit closures are normal with good filtrations, and in characteristic $0$ have rational singularities. In the orthogonal case we show that most orbit closures will have the same properties, and determine precisely the exceptions to this.

Abstract:We introduce a trilinear functional of differential one-forms for a finitely summable regular spectral triple with a noncommutative residue. We demonstrate that for a canonical spectral triple over a closed spin manifold it recovers the torsion of the linear connection. We examine several spectral triples, including Hodge-de Rham, Einstein-Yang-Mills, almost-commutative two-sheeted space, conformally rescaled noncommutative tori, and quantum SU (2) group, showing that the third one has a nonvanishing torsion if nontrivially coupled.

Abstract:This paper presents a comprehensive analysis of the spectral properties of the connection Laplacian for both real and discrete tori. We introduce novel methods to examine these eigenvalues by employing parallel orthonormal basis in the pullback bundle on universal covering spaces. Our main results reveal that the eigenvalues of the connection Laplacian on a real torus can be expressed in terms of standard Laplacian eigenvalues, with a unique twist encapsulated in the torsion matrix. This connection is further investigated in the context of discrete tori, where we demonstrate similar results.

Abstract:We consider a certain sequence of flat vector bundles on a compact locally symmetric orbifold, and we evaluate explicitly the associated asymptotic Ray-Singer real analytic torsion. The basic idea is to computing the heat trace via Selberg's trace formula, so that a key point in this paper is to evaluate the orbital integrals associated with nontrivial elliptic elements. For that purpose, we deduce a geometric localization formula, so that we can rewrite an elliptic orbital integral as a sum of certain identity orbital integrals associated with the centralizer of that elliptic element. The explicit geometric formula of Bismut for semisimple orbital integrals plays an essential role in these computations.

Abstract:Given a number field $F$ with ring of integers $\mathcal{O}_{F}$, one can associate to any torsion free subgroup of $\operatorname{SL}(2,\mathcal{O}_{F})$ of finite index a complete Riemannian manifold of finite volume with fibered cusp ends. For natural choices of flat vector bundles on such a manifold, we show that analytic torsion is identified with the Reidemeister torsion of the Borel-Serre compactification. This is used to obtain exponential growth of torsion in the cohomology for sequences of congruence subgroups.

On Infinitesimal $τ$-Isospectrality of Locally Symmetric Spaces

Abstract:Let $(\tau, V_{\tau})$ be a finite dimensional representation of a maximal compact subgroup $K$ of a connected non-compact semisimple Lie group $G$, and let $\Gamma$ be a uniform torsion-free lattice in $G$. We obtain an infinitesimal version of the celebrated Matsushima-Murakami formula, which relates the dimension of the space of automorphic forms associated to $\tau$ and multiplicities of irreducible $\tau^\vee$-spherical spectra in $L^2(\Gamma \backslash G)$. This result gives a promising tool to study the joint spectra of all central operators on the homogenous bundle associated to the locally symmetric space and hence its infinitesimal $\tau$-isospectrality. Along with this we prove that the almost equality of $\tau$-spherical spectra of two lattices assures the equality of their $\tau$-spherical spectra.

Abstract:In analogy with the study of Pollicott-Ruelle resonances on negatively curved manifolds, we define anisotropic Sobolev spaces that are well-adapted to the analysis of the geodesic vector field associated with any translation invariant Finsler metric on the torus $\mathbb{T}^d$. Among several applications of this functional point of view, we study properties of geodesics that are orthogonal to two convex subsets of $\mathbb{T}^d$ (i.e. projection of the boundaries of strictly convex bodies of $\mathbb{R}^d$). Associated with the set of lengths of such orthogeodesics, we define a geometric Epstein function and prove its meromorphic continuation. We compute its residues in terms of intrinsic volumes of the convex sets. We also prove Poisson-type summation formulae relating the set of lengths of orthogeodesics and the spectrum of magnetic Laplacians.

Abstract:Let O be a closed orientable 2-orbifold of negative Euler characteristic. Huebschmann constructed the Atiyah-Bott-Goldman type symplectic form ω on the deformation space C (O) of convex projective structures on O. We show that the deformation space C (O) of convex projective structures on O admits a global Darboux coordinate system with respect to ω . To this end, we show that C (O) can be decomposed into smaller symplectic spaces. In the course of the proof, we also study the deformation space C (O) for an orbifold O with boundary and construct the symplectic form on the deformation space of convex projective structures on O with fixed boundary holonomy.
