Abstract:Dark matter, proposed decades ago as a speculative component of the universe, is now known to be the vital ingredient in the cosmos, eight times more abundant than ordinary matter, one quarter of the total energy density and the component which has controlled the growth of structure in the universe. Its nature remains a mystery, but, assuming it is comprised of weakly interacting sub-atomic particles, is consistent with large scale cosmic structure. However, recent analyses of structure on galactic and sub-galactic scales have suggested discrepancies and stimulated numerous alternative proposals. We discuss how studies of the density, demography, history and environment of smaller scale structures may distinguish among these possibilities and shed new light on the nature of dark matter.

Abstract:Assuming the validity of the general relativistic description of gravitation on astrophysical and cosmological length scales, we analytically infer that the Friedmann-Robertson-Walker cosmology with Einsteinian cosmological constant, and a vanishing spatial curvature constant, unambiguously requires significant amount of dark matter. This requirement is consistent with other indications for dark matter. The same spacetime symmetries that underlie the freely falling frames of Einsteinian gravity also provide symmetries, which for the spin one half representation space, furnish a novel construct that carries extremely limited interactions with respect to the terrestrial detectors made of the standard model material. Both the `luminous' and `dark' matter turn out to be residents of the same representation space but they derive their respective `luminosity' and `darkness' from either belonging to the sector with (CPT)^2 = + 1, or to the sector with (CPT)^2 = - 1.

Abstract:Astrophysical observations suggest that most of the matter in the cosmos consists of a new form that has not been observed on Earth. The nature and origin of this mysterious dark matter are among the most pressing questions in fundamental science. In this review we summarize the current state of dark matter research from two perspectives. First, we provide an overview of the leading theoretical proposals for dark matter. And second, we describe how these proposals have driven a broad and diverse global search program for dark matter involving direct laboratory searches and astrophysical observations. This review is based on a Green Paper on dark matter prepared as part of the 2020 Astroparticle Community Planning initiative undertaken by the Canadian Subatomic Physics community but has been significantly updated to reflect recent advances.

Abstract:The standard model of particle physics is marvelously successful. However, it is obviously not a complete or final theory. I shall argue here that the structure of the standard model gives some quite concrete, compelling hints regarding what lies beyond. Taking these hints seriously, one is led to predict the existence of new types of very weakly interacting matter, stable on cosmological time scales and produced with cosmologically interesting densities--that is, ``dark matter''.

Abstract:In a search for a solution of the galaxy rotation problem, a novel view on cosmological gravity is developed. In this view, the origin of gravity is traced back to the basic nuclear field of energy, spread by quarks as elementary pointlike sources. This gives a common basis for gravity, electromagnetism, the strong nuclear force and the weak nuclear force. After a review on gravimagnetism and the causality problem of gravity, a hypothetical concept for the gravity field is proposed, which solves the rotation problem without the need to accept dark matter as the deus ex machina.

Abstract:Dark matter is a fundamental constituent of the universe, which is needed to explain a wide variety of astrophysical and cosmological observations. Although the existence of dark matter was first postulated nearly a century ago and its abundance is precisely measured, approximately five times larger than that of ordinary matter, its underlying identity remains a mystery. A leading hypothesis is that it is composed of new elementary particles, which are predicted to exist in many extensions of the Standard Model of particle physics. In this article we review the basic evidence for dark matter and the role it plays in cosmology and astrophysics, and discuss experimental searches and potential candidates. Rather than targeting researchers in the field, we aim to provide an accessible and concise summary of the most important ideas and results, which can serve as a first entry point for advanced undergraduate students of physics or astronomy.

Abstract:Stars account for only about 0.5% of the content of the Universe; the bulk of the Universe is optically dark. The dark side of the Universe is comprised of: at least 0.1% light neutrinos; 3.5% +/- 1% baryons; 29% +/- 4% cold dark matter; and 66% +/- 6% dark energy. Now that we have characterized the dark side of the Universe, the challenge is to understand it. The critical questions are: (1) What form do the dark baryons take? (2) What is (are) the constituent(s) of the cold dark matter? (3) What is the nature of the mysterious dark energy that is causing the Universe to speed up.

We are conducting "experiments" in energy regimes some of which will be probed by accelerators in the near future, and others which are inevitably the subject of more speculative theoretical investigations. Dark matter is an area where we have hope of making discoveries both with accelerator experiments and dedicated searches. Inflation and dark energy lie in regimes where presently our only hope for a fundamental understanding lies in string theory.

Abstract:The dark sector of the Universe is beginning to be clarified step by step. If the dark energy is vacuum energy, then 123 orders are exactly reduced by ordinary physical processes. For many years these unexplained orders were called a crisis in physics. There was indeed a "crisis" before the introduction of the holographic principle and entropic force in physics. The vacuum energy was spent for the organization of new microstates during the entire life of the Universe, but in the initial period of its evolution the vacuum energy (78 orders) were reduced more effectively by the vacuum condensates produced by phase transitions, because the Universe lost the high symmetry during its expansion. Important problems of physics and cosmology can be solved if the quarks, leptons, and gauge bosons are composite particles. The dark matter, partially or all consisting of familon-type pseudo-Goldstone bosons with a mass of 10^{-5} - 10^{-3} eV, can be explained in the composite model. Three generations of elementary particles are absolutely necessary in this model. In addition, this model realizes three relativistic phase transitions in a medium of familons at different red shifts, forming a large-scale structure of dark matter that was "repeated" by baryons. We predict the detection of dark matter dynamics, the detection of familons as dark matter particles, and the development of spectroscopy for dark medium due to the probable presence of dark atoms in it. Other viewpoints on the dark components of the Universe are also discussed briefly.

Abstract:After two decades of efforts to identify the enigmatic dark matter that comprises the dominant form of matter in our galaxy, the mass range for viable candidates appears to have been reduced by more than 50 orders of magnitude. Positive results have thus far been confined to the range: 10-7 Mo to 1.0 Mo, with apparent clustering within the ranges 10-5 Mo to 10-3 Mo and 0.08 Mo to 0.5 Mo. Positive and negative results are compared with specific predictions of cosmological models.
Darker matter generating from the dark

Abstract:The non-detection of dark matter may be attributed to the dark matter residing in a darker hidden sector. We explore the possibility that a hidden sector produced through the freeze-in mechanism, can further generate an even more hidden sector via an additional freeze-in process. Such a two-step freeze-in process produces dark matter coupled weaker-than-ultraweakly to the standard model particles, and is thus referred to as the "darker matter". To illustrate the two-step freeze-in process, we study a model featuring two $U(1)$ hidden sectors. The first $U(1)$ sector is directly coupled to the standard model with feeble interactions, while the second $U(1)$ sector is directly coupled to the first $U(1)$ sector and thus only indirectly to the standard model, rendering it darker. Remarkably, darker matter candidates residing in the second darker $U(1)$ sector, generated from the two-step freeze-in process, can account for almost the entire observed dark matter relic density. The darker matter, interacted with standard model particles through ultraweak couplings, can exhibit velocity-dependent self-interacting cross-sections, which potentially provides an explanation for addressing problems associated with cosmic small-scale structures. Additionally, the dark photon darker matter residing in the darker hidden sector can be responsible for the galactic 511 keV photon signal, consistent with various dark matter density profiles.

Abstract:Great strides have been made towards our understanding of the Universe over the past few decades.Surprisingly,only roughly 5％of what the Universe is made of is in the form of matter that is composed of the elements in the periodic table.The other 95％is,at present,completely unknown,and is conveniently referred to as dark matter and dark energy,which certainly represents new physics at work(see,e.g.,Ref.[1]for a review).Although our knowledge about dark matter is severely lacking,we do know that it cannot possibly be made of baryons(including protons and neu-trons)that comprise normal matter.To distinguish the two,astron-omers often refer to normal matter as baryonic matter.Although baryons account for only about 16％of the matter content of the Universe,they are"visible"and can thus serve as tracer particles for probing the cosmos and testing the laws of physics.

Abstract:From the observed results of the space distribution of quasars we deduced that neutrino mass is about10^(-1) eV. The fourth stable elementary particle (delta particle) with mass about 10^(0) eV can help explain the energy resource mechanism in quasars, the peaks of Extra-galactic Background Light (EBL) etc. The key is the annihilation of dark matter particles under the super-strong gravitational/electromagnetic fields from supermassive compact celestial bodies (SCCB) such as galactic nuclei, quasars etc. Their origin is at the early era of the universe (EEU) as universe density lo large than lo(cr) and lo/c^(2)=const, and physical singularities (PSs) are produced from inflation-explosion stage. PSs can still hide in SCCB with FTL matter now. The energy scale at lo(cr) is the critical energy E(cr). At E(cr), inner symmetries are degenerated; below E(cr), it can hold at most 4-fold SM. Appendix is the theoretical/phenomenal part related to the mass scales sequence (MSS), inflation-explosion, spherical universe, BSM, new particles etc. The MSS, like a Mendeleev's periodic table, can be used to cosmology.

Abstract:In this paper, we show that in the vicinity of certain astronomical bodies, e.g., a Neutron Star, a Black Hole, there exist significant enhancements of Dark Matter's density and current, due to its interaction with the gravitational field of the bodies. This enhancement implies that the effects of Dark Matter - Normal Matter interactions are enhanced and hence might be observable.

Abstract:The purpose of this article is twofold. First, by means of Padmanabhan's proposal on the emergence nature of gravity, we recover the $\Lambda$CDM model and the effect of the dark matter in the context of cosmology. Toward this goal, we use the key idea of Padmanabhan that states cosmic space emerges as the cosmic time progress and link the emergence of space to the difference between the number of degrees of freedom on the boundary and in the bulk. Interestingly enough, we show that the effect of the cold dark matter in the cosmological setup can be understood by assuming an interaction between the numbers of degrees of freedom in the bulk. In the second part, we follow the Jacobson's argument and obtain the modified Einstein field equations with additional dark matter component emerging due to the interaction term between dark energy and baryonic matter related by $\Omega_{DM,0}=\sqrt{2 \alpha \Omega_{M,0} \Omega_{DE,0}}$, where $\alpha$ is a coupling constant. Finally, a correspondence with Yukawa cosmology is pointed out, and the role of massive gravitons as a possibility in explaining the nature of the dark sector as well as the theoretical origin of the Modified Newtonian Dynamics (MOND) are addressed. We speculate that the interaction coupling $\alpha$ fundamentally measures the entanglement between the gravitons and matter fields and there exists a fundamental limitation in measuring the gravitons wavelength.
