Abstract:Product Service Systems (PSS) are models that businesses use to provide an integrated delivery of products and services. As a subset of PSSs, companies must address warranty claims requested by consumers for their products. Within this subset, they need to plan their inventory and manage their professionals efficiently to handle consumer repair (warranty) requests, thereby reducing the risk of consumer dissatisfaction. Typically, companies predict which parts are likely to generate more warranty requests based on historical data. However, they can enhance the accuracy of their predictions by considering consumer feedback posted on social media platforms. In this research, we investigate how analyzing consumer tweets can improve the accuracy of warranty claim prediction. Our proposed method involves the following steps: (1) Tweet Analysis where we analyze tweets using a question-and-answer approach to identify hardware defects in laptops. We employ neural network techniques for this purpose. (2) Word2Vec Vectorization, where the answers obtained from the tweet analysis are vectorized using the Word2Vec technique. This step allows for subjective filtering of the answers, helping us identify tweets that lead to warranty claims related to specific parts. (3) Random Forest Algorithm, where, we use the random forest algorithm to predict the number of warranty claims. By following this method, companies can minimize spare parts inventory while increasing the accuracy of predicting defective hardware. We conducted an empirical study to demonstrate the effectiveness of our approach. By incorporating social media data alongside operational data for warranty claims from January 1, 2021, to December 31, 2021, we achieved a mean absolute percentage error (MAPE) improvement ranging from 13.11% to 22.93%.
