Abstract:n this paper we review the recent results on strangeness production measured by HADES in the Ar+KCl system at a beam energy of 1.756 AGeV. A detailed comparison of the measured hadron yields with the statistical model is also discussed.

Abstract:Abstract A feasibility study has been performed in order to investigate the performance of the HADES detector to measure the electromagnetic decays of the hyperon resonances $$\Sigma (1385)^{0}$$ Σ ( 1385 ) 0 , $$\Lambda (1405)$$ Λ ( 1405 ) and $$\Lambda (1520)$$ Λ ( 1520 ) as well as the production of double strange baryon systems $$\Xi ^{-}$$ Ξ - and $$\Lambda $$ Λ $$\Lambda $$ Λ in p + p reactions at a beam kinetic energy of $$4.5\,{\mathrm{GeV}}$$ 4.5 GeV . The existing HADES detector will be upgraded by a new Forward Detector, which extends the detector acceptance into a range of polar angles that plays a crucial role for these investigations. The analysis of each channel is preceded by a consideration of the production cross-sections. Afterwards the expected signal count rates using a target consisting of either liquid hydrogen or polyethylene are summarized.

Abstract:Systematic studies on the production of strange hyperons and the phi meson as a function of beam energy and system size performed by the NA49 collaboration are discussed. Hadronic transport models fail to describe the production of multi strange particles (Xi, Omega), while statistical models are generally in good agreement to the measured particle yields at all energies. The system size dependence is well reproduced by the core-corona approach. New data on K*(892) production are presented. The yields of these short-lived resonances are significantly below the statistical model expectation. This is in line with the interpretation that the measurable yields are reduced due to rescattering of their decay products inside the fireball.

Abstract:The analysis for the strange and multi-strange hadrons production is presented for proton-proton (pp) collisions at $\sqrt{S_{_{NN}}} =$ 200 GeV as reported by the PYTHIA 8 event generator simulations. The strangeness enhancement is studied in details at $\sqrt{s_{_{NN}}} = $ 200 GeV in proton-proton (pp). We preform the transverse momentum distributions for high and low multiplicity events of the strange and multi-strange hadrons. Here we present the observation of strangeness enhancement in pp collisions for $K_{s}^{+}(u\bar{s})$, $K_{s}^{-}(s\bar{u})$, $\Lambda^{0}(uds)$, $\Xi^{0}(uss)$, $\Xi^{-}(dss)$, $\Omega^{-}(sss)$ production. At the RHIC energy, the strangeness content yield increases with the event multiplicity.

Abstract:We give an overview of the phenomenology of strangeness enhancement in heavy ion collisions, within the paradigm of the statistical model of particle production. We argue that, while strangeness enhancement data is suggestive of a phase transition, the mechanism triggering enhancement is still elusive. We study the feasibility to constrain this mechanism by determining the scaling variable of strangeness enhancement. We further argue that to test the applicability of the statistical model generally, and to confirm our interpretation of the statistical physics responsible for strangeness enhancement, the scaling of strange particle fluctuations ($K/\pi$ and other particles) w.r.t. yields has to be explored.

Abstract:In this contribution we discuss the physics of strange hadrons in low energy ($\simeq 1-2 \rm AGeV$) heavy ion collision. In this energy range the relevant strange particle are the kaons and anti-kaons. The most interesting aspect concerning these particles are so called in-medium modifications. We will attempt to review the current status of understanding of these in medium modifications. In addition we will briefly discuss other issues related with kaon production, such as the nuclear equation of state and chemical equilibrium.

Abstract:We report on the measurements of strange hadrons (K-+/-, K-S(0), Lambda, Xi, Omega and phi) production at mid-rapidity in Au+Au collisions at root(NN)-N-S = 7.7 39 GeV from the STAR beam energy scan (BES) program. The collision energy dependence of strange hadron yields are presented. The strange hadron related particle ratios are compared with calculations from statistical and hadronic cascade models. The nuclear modification factors and baryon to meson ratios ((Lambda) over bar /K-S(0) and Omega/phi) are presented. The physics implications for collision dynamics are discussed.

Abstract:We propose a model with heterogeneous interacting traders which can explain some of the stylized facts of stock market returns. In the model synchronization effects, which generate large fluctuations in returns, can arise either from an aggregate exogenous shock or, even in its absence, purely from communication and imitation among traders. A trade friction is introduced which, by responding to price movements, creates a feedback mechanism on future trading and generates volatility clustering.

Abstract:We consider the production of strange particles in Pb-Pb and p-A collisions at the SPS energy reported by the WA97 experiment. We show that the observed enhancement of strange baryon and antibaryon yields in Pb-Pb collisions relative to p-Be and p-Pb can be explained in terms of the statistical model formulated in canonical ensemble with respect to strangeness conservation. The importance and the role of strangeness under saturation is also discussed.

Abstract:The parametrizations of experimental yields of K$^{\pm,0}$, $\phi$ and $\Lambda+\Sigma^0$ are proposed as function of available energy, $\sqrt{s_\mathrm{NN}}$, and number of participants, $\langle A_\mathrm{part} \rangle_\mathrm{b}$, for $\sqrt{s_\mathrm{NN}}$ from 2.15 to 3 GeV. For all the dataset the $\langle A_\mathrm{part} \rangle_\mathrm{b}$ was extracted using the Glauber Monte Carlo method. The $\alpha$ exponent of yield dependency on $\langle A_\mathrm{part} \rangle_\mathrm{b}$ appears not to change with beam energy and is found to be 1.30 $\pm$ 0.02. Our parametrization and the predictions of public versions of RQMD.RMF, SMASH and UrQMD transport models are compared to the HADES experimental data for Ar+KCl at $\sqrt{s_\mathrm{NN}}$ of 2.61 GeV. The phenomenological parametrization currently offers the best overall description of these yields. Predictions are given for yields from Ag+Ag collisions at available energies of 2.41 and 2.55 GeV, analysed by HADES, Au+Au experiment at 2.16 and 2.24 GeV planned by this collaboration, some unpublished yields for STAR's Au+Au collisions at 3 GeV, and for Au+Au collisions planned by CBM, up to 3.85 GeV.

Abstract:The ALICE detector at the LHC was upgraded in the long shutdown of 2019-2021 in order to take data at much-increased Run 3 and 4 rates. The various challenges of this upgrade are presented, and the first results of strangeness production in double gap events collected in 2022 are shown by presenting distributions of kaon pairs.

Measuring system-size and event-topology dependence of (multi-)strangeness production

Abstract:Measurements of light-flavour particle production in small collision systems at the LHC energies have shown the onset of features that resemble what is typically observed in nucleus-nucleus collisions. New results on the (multi-)strange hadron production in Pb--Pb collisions at $\sqrt{s_{\mathrm{NN}}}$=5.02 and 5.36 TeV will be presented. These results are discussed in the context of recent measurements of light-flavour hadron production in pp collisions at $\sqrt{s}$ = 0.9 and 13.6 TeV collected by the ALICE experiment in Run 3 of the LHC. In order to understand the strangeness production mechanism, angular correlation between multi-strange and associated identified hadrons are measured and compared with predictions from the string-breaking model PYTHIA8, the cluster hadronisation model HERWIG7, and the core-corona model EPOS-LHC. In addition, the connection of strange hadron production to hard scattering processes and to the underlying event is studied, using di-hadron correlations triggered with the highest-$p_{\mathrm{T}}$ hadron in the event.

Abstract:We present the new studies which are performed with the aim of better understanding the production mechanisms for strange particles, and hence the strangeness enhancement phenomenon, in small-collision systems. In one of the recent studies, the very forward energy transported by beam remnants (spectators) and detected by the Zero Degree Calorimeters (ZDC) is used to classify events. The contribution of the effective energy and the particle multiplicity on strangeness production is studied using a multi-differential approach in order to disentangle initial and final state effects. In the second study, the origin of strangeness enhancement with multiplicity in pp has been further investigated by separating the contribution of soft and hard processes, such as jets, to strange hadron production. Techniques involving full jet reconstruction or two-particle correlations have been exploited. The results indicate that the increased relative strangeness production emerges from the growth of the underlying event and suggest that soft (transverse to leading) processes are the dominant contribution to strange hadron production and strangeness enhancement. Further it is also seen in pp collisions that strangeness production increases with midrapidity multiplicity and there exists an anti-correlation with the effective energy.

Abstract:We present recent results on the production, spectra and elliptic flow of strange particles in dynamic simulations employing hadronic degrees of freedom and from recombination models. The main focus will be on the Ultra-relativistic Molecular Dynamics (UrQMD) Boltzmann approach to relativistic heavy ion collisions and a hybrid approach with intermediate hydrodynamic evolution based on UrQMD (available for download as UrQMD v3.3). Compared to the standard binary collision approach, an enhancement of the strange particle particle yields is found in the hybrid approach due to the assumption of local equilibration. The production origins of the Phi-meson in the hybrid approach are studied in further detail. We also present results on the transverse momentum spectra of baryon to meson ratios of strange particles. Due to the approximate energy independent scaling of this ratio as a function of p_T we argue, that a maximum in these spectra may not be a unique sign for quark coalescence but can be understood in terms of flow and fragmentation.

Abstract:Hadron production ( , proton, , , ) in and collisions is investigated at an incident pion beam momentum of . This comprehensive set of data measured with HADES at SIS18/GSI significantly extends the existing world data on hadron production in pion induced reactions and provides a new reference for models that are commonly used for the interpretation of heavy-ion collisions. The measured inclusive differential production cross-sections are compared with state-of-the-art transport model (GiBUU, SMASH) calculations. The (semi-) exclusive channel , in which the kinematics of the strange hadrons are correlated, is also investigated and compared to a model calculation. Agreement and remaining tensions between data and the current version of the considered transport models are discussed.

Reinterpretation of Proton Strangeness Between ATLAS and CMS Measurements

Abstract:We reexamine the shapes of the strange quark parton distribution functions (PDFs) of the proton by means of QCD analysis of HERA I + II e(+/-) p deep inelastic scattering cross section measurement at DESY and inclusive gauge boson production and W boson production associated with a charm quark from the LHC at CERN. We find that there is an overall agreement on the strange quark distributions obtained from CMS W + charm and ATLAS W/Z data at the parton momentum fraction range x less than or similar to 10(-2). Meanwhile, there is also a strong tension between these data toward large x. We find that this tension fades away if the ATLAS measurement of W/Z production is analyzed together with the ATLAS W + charm data. The W/Z and W + charm data both from ATLAS and CMS experiments agree that the proton strangeness is enhanced toward small momentum fraction x and is smoothly suppressed at large x. Furthermore, a strong x dependence of the strange-to-nonstrange parton ratio R-s(x, Q(2)) is observed.

Abstract:LUCIAE, a hadronic and string cascade model and its corresponding event generator are used to analyse strangeness production singly and multiply in p-Pb and Pb-Pb collisions at 158 A GeV. Spectra of multiplicity and transverse mass for single$(\Lambda ,\overline \Lambda )$ and multiple$(\Xi ^ - ,\overline {\Xi ^ - } ,\Omega ^ - ,\overline {\Omega ^ - } )$ strangeness are given. In LUCIAE model it suggests a physical mechanism, i.e. the dependence of the strange quark suppression factor on incident energy, projectile mass and centrality of colliding system might result in increase of yield of strange particles with increasing the above three parameters. Calculations from the model reconstruct well the WA97 experimental data: increase of yield of strange particles with increasing centrality and increase of strangeness enhancement with increasing number of strange quarks, in relativistic nucleus-nucleus collisions.
Probing strangeness hadronization with event-by-event production of multistrange hadrons

Abstract:This Letter presents the first measurement of event-by-event fluctuations of the net number (difference between the particle and antiparticle multiplicities) of multistrange hadrons $\Xi^-$ and $\overline{\Xi}^+$ and its correlation with the net-kaon number using the data collected by the ALICE Collaboration in pp, p$-$Pb, and Pb$-$Pb collisions at a center-of-mass energy per nucleon pair $\sqrt{s_{\mathrm{NN}}}=5.02\ \mathrm{TeV}$. The statistical hadronization model with a correlation over three units of rapidity between hadrons having the same and opposite strangeness content successfully describes the results. On the other hand, string-fragmentation models that mainly correlate strange hadrons with opposite strange quark content over a small rapidity range fail to describe the data.

Features of strangeness production in pp and heavy ion collisions

Abstract:Based on the existing experimental data for A-A collisions starting from the AGS energies up to the LHC ones, various systematics related to strange hadrons and anti-hadrons are presented. The ratio between the average transverse momentum and the square root of the total particle multiplicity per unit rapidity and unit transverse overlap area decreases with collision energy for a given centrality or with centrality for a given collision energy, thus supporting the predictions of CGC and percolation based approaches. The dependence on the square root of the total multiplicity per unit rapidity and unit transverse overlap area of the slope and offset extracted from the $\langle p_T\rangle$-particle mass correlation and of the average transverse expansion velocity and kinetic freeze-out temperature parameters obtained from BGBW fits of the pT spectra for strange hadrons is compared to that for pions, kaons and protons. The detailed study of the entropy density dependence of the ratio of strange hadron yields per unit rapidity to the total particle multiplicity per unit rapidity, at different collision energies and centralities, reveals the necessity to study separately strange hadrons and anti-hadrons. The correlation between the ratio of the single- and multi- strange anti-hadron yield per unit rapidity to the total particle multiplicity per unit rapidity and the entropy density is presented as a function of the fireball size. A maximum is evidenced in the similar correlation established for combined and separate species of strange hadrons, at different centralities, in the region where a transition from the baryon-dominated matter to the meson-dominated one takes place. The position of this maximum does not depend on the mass of the corresponding strange hadron. Comparison with pp experimental data reveals another similarity between pp and Pb-Pb collisions at the LHC energies.
