Abstract:We prove different forms of the Nullstellensatz for difference fields and absolutely flat simple difference rings, called pseudofields. A difference ring is a ring on which an arbitrary group is acting by means of ring automorphisms.

Abstract:We revisit the old idea of constructing difference sets from cyclotomic classes. Two constructions of skew Hadamard difference sets are given in the additive groups of finite fields by using union of cyclotomic classes of Fq of order N=2p1m, where p1 is a prime and m a positive integer. Our main tools are index 2 Gauss sums, instead of cyclotomic numbers.

Abstract:Let D be a ( v , k , λ )-difference set in an abelian group G , and ( v , 31) = 1. If n = 5 p r with p a prime not dividing v and r a positive integer, then p is a multiplier of D . In the case 31| v , we get restrictions on the parameters of such difference sets D for which p may not be a multiplier.

Abstract:This paper shows that in general, difference fields do not have a difference closure. However, we introduce a stronger notion of closure (kappa-closure), and show that every algebraically closed difference field K of characteristic 0, with fixed field satisfying a certain natural condition, has a closure, and this closure is unique up to isomorphism over K.

Abstract:We present a uniform framework for establishing Nullstellensätze for power series rings using quantifier elimination results for valued fields. As an application we obtain Nullstellensätze for $p$-adic power series (both formal and convergent) analogous to Rückert's complex and Risler's real Nullstellensatz, as well as a $p$-adic analytic version of Hilbert's 17th Problem. Analogous statements for restricted power series, both real and $p$-adic, are also considered.

Projective Nullstellensatz for not necessarily algebraically closed fields

Abstract:The Nullstellensatz, proved by Hilbert in 1893, is a classical result that holds when the base field is algebraically closed. When the base field is finite, a version of Hilbert's Nullstellensatz is given by Terjanian in 1966. Laksov in 1987 generalized Hilbert's Nullstellensatz to a $K$-Nullstellensatz when the base field $K$ is not necessarily algebraically closed. However, unlike Tarjanian's Nullstellensatz, Laksov's Nullstellensatz is not very explicit. Later, Laksov and Westin in 1990 proposed a strengthening to Laksov's Nullstellensatz in the form of four conjectures. A projective analogue of Nullstellensatz of the classical Nullstellensatz of Hilbert is well-known for projective varieties over algebraically closed fields. For finite fields, the projective analogue of the Nullstellensatz can be derived as an application of Hilbert's Nullstellensatz, though it is not as efficient as Terjanian's Nullstellensatz. Gimenez, Ruano and San-José in 2023 strengthened this result by identifying a computationally efficient set. Here, we introduce an even more efficient set that establishes the projective analogue of the Nullstellensatz for finite fields. Additionally, we provide counterexamples to three of the conjectures of Laksov and Westin.

Abstract:This paper shows that a -disjoint difference family exists if and only if and by giving suitable translations of base blocks of a -cyclic difference family. The Combinatorial Nullstellensatz finds its application in constructing disjoint difference families.

Abstract:We show that the ring of difference polynomials over a difference field does not satisfy the ascending chain condition for mixed difference ideals. This result solves an open problem of difference algebra stated by E. Hrushovski in connection with the development of difference algebraic geometry.

Abstract:We prove a noncommutative real Nullstellensatz for 2-step nilpotent Lie algebras that extends the classical, commutative real Nullstellensatz as follows: Instead of the real polynomial algebra $\mathbb R[x_1, \dots, x_d]$ we consider the universal enveloping *-algebra of a 2-step nilpotent real Lie algebra (i.e. the universal enveloping algebra of its complexification with the canonical *-involution). Evaluation at points of $\mathbb R^d$ is then generalized to evaluation through integrable *-representations, which in this case are equivalent to filtered *-algebra morphisms from the universal enveloping *-algebra to a Weyl algebra. Our Nullstellensatz characterizes the common kernels of a set of such *-algebra morphisms as the real ideals of the universal enveloping *-algebra.

Abstract:Signed difference sets have interesting applications in communications and coding theory. A -difference set in a finite group G of order v is a subset D of G with k distinct elements such that the expressions for all distinct two elements , represent each non-identity element in G exactly times. A -signed difference set is a generalization of a -difference set D , which satisfies all properties of D , but has a sign for each element in D . We will show some new existence results for signed difference sets by using partial difference sets, product methods, and cyclotomic classes.

Dimension-free matricial Nullstellensätze for noncommutative polynomials

Abstract:Hilbert's Nullstellensatz is one of the most fundamental correspondences between algebra and geometry, and has inspired a plethora of noncommutative analogs. In last two decades, there has been an increased interest in understanding vanishing sets of polynomials in several matrix variables without restricting the matrix size, prompted by developments in noncommutative function theory, control systems, operator algebras, and quantum information theory. The emerging results vary according to the interpretation of what vanishing means. For example, given a collection of noncommutative polynomials, one can consider all matrix tuples at which the values of these polynomials are all zero, singular, have common kernel, or have zero trace. This survey reviews Nullstellensätze for the above types of vanishing sets, and identifies their structural counterparts in the free algebra.

Abstract:Let $E$ be an elliptic curve defined over $\mathbb{Q}$ with good ordinary reduction at a prime $p\geq 5$, and let $F$ be an imaginary quadratic field. Under appropriate assumptions, we show that the Pontryagin dual of the fine Mordell-Weil group of $E$ over the $\mathbb{Z}_p^2$-extension of $F$ is pseudo-null as a module over the Iwasawa algebra of the group $\mathbb{Z}_p^2$.

Abstract:For infinitely many primes $p=4k+1$ we give a slightly improved upper bound for the maximal cardinality of a set $B\subset \ZZ_p$ such that the difference set $B-B$ contains only quadratic residues. Namely, instead of the "trivial" bound $|B|\leq \sqrt{p}$ we prove $|B|\leq \sqrt{p}-1$, under suitable conditions on $p$. The new bound is valid for approximately three quarters of the primes $p=4k+1$.

Abstract:The classical problem of whether mmth-powers with or without zero in a finite field Fq\mathbb {F}_q form a difference set has been extensively studied, and is related to many topics, such as flag transitive finite projective planes. In this paper new necessary and sufficient conditions are established including those via a system of polynomial equations on Gauss sums. The author thereby solves the problem for even qq which is neglected in the literature, and extends the nonexistence list for even mm up to 2222. Moreover, conjectures toward the complete classification are posed.

Abstract:In this paper, we focus on the difference analogue of Stothers-Mason theorem for entire functions of order less than 1, which can be seen as difference $abc$ theorem for entire functions with slow growth. We also obtain the difference analogue of truncated version of Nevanlinna second main theorem which reveals that meromorphic functions which are of hyper order less than 1 except periodic functions with period one cannot have too many points with long height in the complex plane. Both theorems depend on new definitions of height of shifting poles and shifting zeros of a given meromorphic function in a domain.

Abstract:We prove a uniform estimate of the number of points for difference algebraic varieties in finite difference fields in the spirit of Lang-Weil. More precisely, we give uniform lower and upper bounds for the number of rational points of a difference variety in terms of its transformal dimension. As a main technical ingredient, we prove an equidimensionality result for Frobenius reductions of difference varieties.
