Abstract:We have calculated the rate of the decay b -> clv to second order in alpha_s in the limit that the b and c quarks have equal masses. The results here confirm recent calculations done in the opposite limit where the c-quark is much lighter than the b-quark.

Abstract:In the heavy quark limit a heavy baryon which contains two heavy quarks is believed to be composed of a heavy diquark and a light quark. Based on this picture, we evaluate the weak semileptonic decay rates of such baryons. The transition form factors between two heavy baryons are associated with those between two heavy mesons by applying superflavor symmetry. The effective vertices of the W boson and two heavy diquarks are obtained in terms of the Bethe-Salpeter equation. Numerical predictions on these semileptonic decay widths are presented and they will be tested in future experiments. [S0556-2821(98)00721-8].

Abstract:The decay width of b to c,c,c,l,nu has been computed as an expansion in limit (1- 3*(m_c/m_b)) << 1 with zero lepton invariant mass. Considering O(alpha_s^2) corrections to b to c,l,nu with zero invariant lepton mass, inclusion of our result is shown to rectify the disagreement between the expansions around (1-(m_c/m_b)) << 1 and m_c/m_b << 1 at smaller values.

Abstract:The inclusive and exclusive semileptonic decay distributions for b -> c decay are computed in the Shifman-Voloshin limit. The inclusive decay distributions (computed using an operator product expansion) depend on quark masses, and the exclusive decay distributions depend on hadron masses. Nevertheless, we show explicitly how the first two terms in the 1/m expansion match between the inclusive and exclusive decays. Agreement between the inclusive and exclusive decay rates requires a minimum smearing region of size Lambda_QCD before local duality holds in QCD. The alpha_s corrections to the inclusive and exclusive decay rates are also shown to agree to order (log m)/m^2. The alpha_s/m^2 corrections are used to obtain the alpha_s correction to Bjorken's inequality on the slope of the Isgur-Wise function.

Abstract:The quark flavor sector of the Standard Model is a fertile ground to look for new physics effects through a unitarity test of the Cabbibo-Kobayashi-Maskawa (CKM) matrix. We present a lattice QCD calculation of the scalar and the vector form factors (over a large $q^2$ region including $q^2 = 0$) associated with the $D \rightarrow Kl{\nu}$ semi-leptonic decay. This calculation will then allow us to determine the central CKM matrix element, $V_{cs}$ in the Standard Model, by comparing the lattice QCD results for the form factors and the experimental decay rate. This form factor calculation has been performed on the $N_f =2+1+1$ MILC HISQ ensembles with the physical light quark masses.

Revisiting semileptonic $B$ meson decays at next-to-next-to-leading order

Abstract:We compute next-to-next-to-leading order corrections to the semileptonic decay rate of $B$ mesons for arbitrary values of the final-state quark mass. For the contribution with one massive quark in the final state, we extend the literature result and obtain analytic expressions in terms of iterated integrals. For the complete contribution, which also includes contributions with three massive quarks in the final state, we present a semi-analytic method, which leads to a precise approximation formula for the decay rate. Our results agree with the expansions available for $b\to c\ell \bar{\nu}_\ell$ and $b\to u\ell \bar{\nu}_\ell$ in the literature. The main emphasize of this paper is on the technical aspects of the calculation which are useful for a wider range of applications.

Abstract:We systematically study the semileptonic decays of Bc→Bnℓ+νℓ in the light-front constituent quark model, where Bc represents the antitriplet charmed baryons of (Ξc0,Ξc+,Λc+) and Bn corresponds to the octet ones. We determine the spin-flavor structures of the constituents in the baryons with the Fermi statistics and calculate the decay branching ratios (Bs) and averaged asymmetry parameters (αs) with the helicity formalism. In particular, we find that B(Λc+→Λe+νe,ne+νe)=(3.55±1.04,0.36±0.15)%, B(Ξc+→Ξ0e+νe,Σ0e+νe,Λe+νe)=(11.3±3.35), 0.33±0.09, 0.12±0.04%, and B(Ξc0→Ξ-e+νe,Σ-e+νe)=(3.49±0.95,0.22±0.06)%. Our results agree with the current experimental data. Our prediction for B(Λc+→ne+νe) is consistent with those in the literature, which can be measured by the charm facilities, such as BESIII and BELLE. Some of our results for the Ξc+(0) semileptonic channels can be tested by the experiments at BELLE as well as the ongoing ones at LHCb and BELLEII.

Inclusive Semileptonic $b \to c \ell \barν$ Decays to Order $1/m_b^5$

Abstract:Inclusive semileptonic $B\to X_c \ell\bar{\nu}$ decays can be described in the Heavy Quark Expansion (HQE) and allow for a precision determination of the CKM element $|V_{cb}|$. We calculate the terms of $1/m_b^5$ and derive a ``trace formula'' which allows for the computation of the decay rate and kinematic moments of the spectrum up to this order in the HQE. We focus specifically on the reparametrization invariant (RPI) dilepton invariant mass $q^2$ moments of the spectrum, which depend on a reduced set of HQE parameters. At this order, ``intrinsic charm'' (IC) contributions proportional to $1/(m_b^3m_c^2)$ enter, which are numerically expected to be sizeable. Using the ``lowest-lying state saturation ansatz'' (LLSA), we estimate the size of these contributions. Within this approximation, we observe a partial cancellation between the IC and the ``genuine'' $1/m_b^5$ contributions, resulting in a small overall contribution.

Assessing Lepton Flavor Universality Violations in Semileptonic Decays

Abstract:In light of recent measurements suggesting potential lepton flavor universality violations in semileptonic decays at collider experiments, this article provides a concise study of tree- and loop-level $B$-hadron semileptonic decays, $b \to c l \nu_l$ and $b \to s l^+ l^-$. We provide predictions for lepton flavor violating observables, $\mathcal{R}_{J/\psi}$ and $\mathcal{R}_{\eta_c}$, across the entire $q^2$ range. Our study employs the Relativistic Independent Quark Model (RIQM), highlighting a model-dependent approach to these observables. We compare our model's predictions with existing lattice predictions, demonstrating the strong applicability of the RIQM framework in describing $B_c$ decays. Additionally, we reassess global averages for $\mathcal{R}_{D(D^*)}$ and $\mathcal{R}_{K(K^*)}$ in semileptonic transitions. With the upcoming experimental upgrades and the anticipated Run 3 data on $B_c$ meson decays, rapid confirmation of these quantities could indicate significant evidence of physics beyond the Standard Model, thereby opening new pathways for understanding the complex flavor dynamics in $B$ meson decays.

Abstract: Dyson-Schwinger equation (DSE) studies show that the b-quark mass-function is approximately constant, and that this is true to a lesser extent for the c-quark. These observations provide the basis for a study of the leptonic and semileptonic decays of heavy pseudoscalar mesons using a ``heavy-quark'' limit of the DSEs. When exact, this limit reduces the number of independent form factors. Semileptonic decays with light mesons in the final state are also accessible because the DSEs provide a description of light-quark propagation characteristics and light-meson structure. A description of B-meson decays is straightforward, however, the study of decays involving the D-meson indicates that c-quark mass-corrections are quantitatively important.
$B_c$ to $A$ Transition Form Factors and Semileptonic Decays in Self-consistent Covariant Light-front Approach

Abstract:We present a comprehensive analysis of the semileptonic weak decays of $B_c$ meson decaying to axial-vector ($A$) mesons for bottom-conserving and bottom-changing decay modes. We employ self-consistent covariant light-front quark model (CLFQM) that uses type-II correspondence to eliminate inconsistencies in the traditional type-I CLFQM. As a fresh attempt, we test the self-consistency in CLFQM through type-II correspondence for $B_c \to A$ meson transition form factors. We establish that in type-II correspondence the form factors for longitudinal and transverse polarization states are numerically equal and are free from zero-mode contributions, which confirms the self-consistency of type-II correspondence for $B_c \to A$ transition form factors. Furthermore, we ascertain that the problems of inconsistency and violation of covariance of CLFQM within the type-I correspondence are resolved in type-II correspondence for $B_c \to A$ transitions. We thoroughly investigate the effects of self-consistency between type-I and type-II schemes using a comparative analysis. We also study the $q^2$ dependence of the form factors in weak hadronic currents for the whole accessible kinematic range $0 \leqslant q^2 \leqslant q^2_{max}$ for both bottom-conserving as well as bottom-changing transitions. In addition, we extend our analysis to predict the branching ratios of the semileptonic weak decays of $B_c$ meson involving axial-vector meson in the final state to quantify the effects of self-consistency in these decays that were not studied before. We evaluate the lepton mass effect on these branching ratios and various other important physical observables, such as forward-backward asymmetries, lepton-side convexity parameter, asymmetry parameter, and longitudinal polarization asymmetries and fractions. Finally, we obtain the lepton flavor universality ratios for various decays.

Abstract:We report on the calculation of the inclusive semileptonic decay of the $D_s$ meson on the lattice. We simulate the $D_s \rightarrow X_s\ell\nu_\ell$ process with Möbius domain-wall charm and strange quarks, whose masses were approximately tuned to the physical values. We cover the whole kinematical region. The focus of this work is on the systematic error due to finite-volume effects. We construct a model of two-body final states to describe the data on a finite volume lattice of $L \simeq 0.055 \, \text{fm}$ to investigate the extrapolation to the infinite-volume limit.

This motivated us to re-animate the discussion of possible Quark-Hadron Duality violations. There seems that there is currently no evidence of a failure of the Heavy Quark Expansion (HQE) used to compute observables for these decays. However, we might arrive at a point where an asymptotic behaviour of the HQE would limit a further increase of precision. We discuss this possibility and suggest a simple model, which can be used to study the effects of higher orders in the 1/ m b expansion and possible quark-hadron duality violations. We devise observables sensitive only to such higher-order effects to test the behaviour of the HQE. Using these observables we obtain a first estimate of possible quark-hadron duality violations using the measured q 2 moments.

Abstract:We present the complete calculation of the top-quark decay width at next-to-next-to-leading order in QCD, including next-to-leading electroweak corrections as well as finite bottom quark mass and W boson width effects. In particular, we also show the first results of the fully differential decay rates for the top-quark semileptonic decay t -> W+(l(+)nu)b at next-to-next-to-leading order in QCD. Our method is based on the understanding of the invariant mass distribution of the final-state jet in the singular limit from effective field theory.
