Abstract:The decay widths of the 0(++) and 1(-+) heavy-light, hybrids to B(D) and pion are calculated by using the QCD sum rules. The interpolated current of the hybrid is chosen as <g(q)over bar>gamma(alpha)G(alpha mu)(a)T(a)h(upsilon)(x). In order to simplify the calculation and avoid the ambiguity of the three-point correlation unction, a two-point correlation function between the pion and vacuum is used instead. The decay width of the 0(++)-->B(D) is about 12(16) MeV, while the 1(-+)-->B(D) is around 0.4(1.8) MeV. We keep the leading-order of 1/M-Q expansion in our calculation for convenience. Abstract:Since b quark mass is not asymptotically large, chirally enhanced corrections which arise from twist-3 wave functions may be important in B decays. We thus evaluate the hadronic matrix elements with the final light pseudoscalar mesons described by leading twist and twist-3 distribution amplitudes. We find that chirally enhanced corrections can be included consistently in the framework of QCD factorization only if the twist-3 distribution amplitudes are symmetric. We then give explicit expressions of api for B → ππ at the next-to-leading order of αs including chirally enhanced corrections. We also briefly discuss the divergence appeared in the hard spectator contributions. Experimentally, with the running of B factories, there will accumulate a great amount of data on various B decay channels. Theoretically, however, how to extract CKM matrix elements from non-leptonic B rare decays with modelindependence is still an open question due to the complexity of strong interaction. In the following, we first give a theoretical sketch on non-leptonic B decays. It is well known that the amplitude for the decay B → P1P2 can be expressed as [1]: A(B → P1P2) ∝ ∑ i λiCi(μ)〈P1P2|Qi(μ)|B〉, (1) where λi is a CKM factor, Ci(μ) is a Wilson coefficient which incorporates short distance contributions from strong interactions and therefore is computable by making use of operator product expansion and renormalization group equations, 〈P1P2|Qi(μ)|B〉 is a hadronic matrix element. Obviously, if we want to extract CKM factor from B decays, the hadronic matrix elements should be evaluated reliably. However, due to our ignorance on hadronization, it would be a great challenge to calculate these hadronic matrix elements reliably from first principles. A commonly used approximation is naive factorization assumption, which is based on Bjorken’s color transparency argument [2]: b quark decays and transfers a large momentum to final light quarks, in which two fast-moving, nearly collinear final quarks with appropriate color can be viewed as a small color dipole which will not significantly interact with the soft gluons and finally form an emitted meson. Then we have: 〈P1P2|Qi(μ)|B〉 = 〈P1|J1|0〉〈P2|J2|B〉, (2) where P1 labels the emitted meson and P2 labels another light meson which absorbs the spectator quark from B meson. This approximation completely ignores non-factorizable contributions which connect the emitted meson to the spectator system and expresses the hadronic matrix elements in terms of meson decay constants and form factors. Since decay constants and form factors can be, at least in principle, well determined from other experiments, the branching ratios of non-leptonic B decays are obtained under this assumption. The main deficiency of this approximation is that non-factorizable contributions are completely missing. In consequence, the hadronic matrix elements lose their schemeand scale-dependence. Noting that Wilson coefficients are schemeand scale-dependent, the corresponding decay width will also depend on renormalization scheme and scale which is unphysical. This is a clear indication that non-factorizable contributions, which amount to final-state rescattering and strong interaction phase shift, are important. Several generalizations of naive factorization assumption have been proposed to phenomenologically parameterize non-factorizable contributions. Since this kind of parameterization has no relation to, and therefore does not gain any information from, the underlying QCD dynamics, the resulting predictions on B decays are still model-dependent. In ref [3,4], Beneke, Buchalla, Neubert and Sachrajda proposed a promising QCD factorization method: The hadronic matrix elements 〈P1P2|Qi(μ)|B〉 contain two distinct scale: one is a large scale μ = O(mb), the other is ΛQCD which is the scale of hadronization. In the heavy quark limit, they show that the short distance contributions which are related to the large scale μ = O(mb) can be, at least at one-loop order, separated from the long distance effects and are thus calculable. Furthermore, the long distance effects can be parameterized by light-cone distribution amplitudes and non-perturbative form factors. Hadronic Decays Involving Heavy Pentaquarks

Abstract:Recently several experiments have reported evidences for pentaquark $\Theta^+$. H1 experiment at HERA-B has also reported evidence for $\Theta_c$. $\Theta^+$ is interpreted as a bound state of an $\bar s$ with other four light quarks $udud$ which is a member of the anti-decuplet under flavor $SU(3)_f$. While $\Theta_c$ is a state by replacing the $\bar s$ in $\Theta^+$ by a $\bar c$. One can also form $\Theta_b$ by replacing the $\bar s$ by a $\bar b$. The charmed and bottomed heavy pentaquarks form triplets and anti-sixtets under $SU(3)_f$. We study decay processes involving at least one heavy pentaquark using $SU(3)_f$ and estimate the decay widths for some decay modes. We find several relations for heavy pentaquarks decay into another heavy pentaquark and a $B (B^*)$ or a $D(D^*)$ which can be tested in the future. $B$ can decay through weak interaction to charmed heavy pentaquarks. We also study some $B$ decay modes with a heavy pebtaquark in the final states. Experiments at the current $B$ factories can provide important information about the heavy pentaquark properties.

Abstract:We first improve the previous results on the masses of the doublets (0(+),1(+)) and ( 1(+),2(+)) with QCD sum rules up to the order of O(1/m(Q)) in HQET. With the mass matrix of the two 1 (+) slates, we obtain the mixing angle for the two states and construct the interpolating currents which couple to only one of the two eigenstates up to the order O(1/m(Q)). Using these results we derive the light-cone sum rules for the amplitudes of the pionic decay of B-1 and B-2* up to the order O(1/m(Q)) in HQET. The O(1/m(Q)) terms in these amplitudes are found to be small. When applied to D-1 and D-2* the theoretical results are in good agreement with experimental data though the theoretical uncertainty is sizable for the D system. [S0556-2821(98)02319-3]

Abstract:We study the weak decays of $\bar{B}_{(s)}$ and $B_c$ into D-wave heavy–light mesons, including $J^P=2^-$ ($D_{(s)2},D'_{(s)2},B_{(s)2}, B'_{(s)2}$) and $3^-$ ($D^*_{(s)3}, B^*_{(s)3}$) states. The weak decay hadronic matrix elements are obtained based on the instantaneous Bethe–Salpeter method. The branching ratios for the $\bar{B}$ decays are $\mathcal {B}[\bar{B}\rightarrow D_{2}e{\bar{\nu }}_e] = 1.1^{-0.3}_{+0.3} \times 10^{-3}$, $\mathcal {B}[\bar{B}\rightarrow D'_2e{\bar{\nu }}_e]=4.1^{-0.8}_{+0.9} \times 10^{-4}$, and $\mathcal {B}[\bar{B}\rightarrow D^*_3e{\bar{\nu }}_e]=1.0^{-0.2}_{+0.2} \times 10^{-3}$, respectively. For the semi-electronic decays of $\bar{B}_s$ to $D_{s2}$, $D'_{s2}$, and $D^*_{s3}$, the corresponding branching ratios are $1.7^{-0.5}_{+0.5}\times 10^{-3}$, $5.2^{-1.5}_{+1.6}\times 10^{-4}$, and $1.5^{-0.4}_{+0.4}\times 10^{-3}$, respectively. The branching ratios of the semi-electronic decays of $B_c$ to D-wave D mesons are in the order of $10^{-5}$. We also obtained the forward–backward asymmetry, angular spectra, and lepton momentum spectra. In particular the distribution of decay widths for the $2^-$ states $D_2$ and $D'_2$ varying along with mixing angle are presented.

Abstract:We employ a Dyson-Schwinger equation model to effect a unified and uniformly accurate description of light- and heavy-meson observables, which we characterize by heavy-meson leptonic decays, semileptonic heavy-to-heavy and heavy-to-light transitions, B --> D*, D, rho, pi; D --> K*, K, pi, radiative and strong decays, B-(s)* --> B((s))gamma; D-(s)* --> D((s))gamma, D pi, and the rare B --> K*gamma flavor-changing neutral-current process. We elucidate the heavy-quark limit of these processes and, using a model-independent mass formula valid for all nonsinglet pseudoscalar mesons, demonstrate that their mass rises linearly with the mass of their heaviest constituent. In our numerical calculations we eschew a heavy-quark expansion and rely instead on the observation that the dressed c,b-quark mass functions are well approximated by a constant, interpreted as their constituent mass: we find (M) over cap(c) = 1.32 GeV and (M) over cap(b) = 4.65 GeV. The calculated heavy-meson leptonic decay constants and transition form factors are a necessary element in the experimental determination of CKM matrix elements. The results also show that this framework, as employed hitherto, is able to describe vector meson polarization observables well. [S0556-2821(99)08013-3].

Abstract: Dyson-Schwinger equation (DSE) studies show that the b-quark mass-function is approximately constant, and that this is true to a lesser extent for the c-quark. These observations provide the basis for a study of the leptonic and semileptonic decays of heavy pseudoscalar mesons using a ``heavy-quark'' limit of the DSEs. When exact, this limit reduces the number of independent form factors. Semileptonic decays with light mesons in the final state are also accessible because the DSEs provide a description of light-quark propagation characteristics and light-meson structure. A description of B-meson decays is straightforward, however, the study of decays involving the D-meson indicates that c-quark mass-corrections are quantitatively important.

Abstract:A symmetry-preserving approach to the continuum bound-state problem in quantum field theory is used to calculate the masses, leptonic decay constants and light-front distribution amplitudes of empirically accessible heavy-light mesons. The inverse moment of the B-meson distribution is particularly important in treatments of exclusive B-decays using effective field theory and the factorisation formalism; and its value is therefore computed: λ_B(ζ = 2 GeV) = 0.54(3)GeV. As an example and in anticipation of precision measurements at new-generation B-factories, the branching fraction for the rare B→γ(E_γ) ℓν_ℓ radiative decay is also calculated, retaining 1/m_B^2 and 1/E_γ^2 corrections to the differential decay width, with the result Γ_B→γℓν_ℓ/Γ_B = 0.47(15) on E_γ > 1.5GeV.

Abstract:In this work, we study the weak decay between two heavy baryons $ \mathcal{B}_i(\frac{1}{2}^+)\to \mathcal{B}_f(\frac{3}{2}^+)$ in the light-front quark model where three-quark picture is employed for baryon. We derive general form of transition amplitude of $ \mathcal{B}_i(\frac{1}{2}^+)\to \mathcal{B}_f(\frac{3}{2}^+)$, and analyze two specific cases of transitions: the weak decays of single heavy baryon $\Sigma_{b} \to \Sigma_{c}^*$ and the decays of double-charmed baryon $\Xi_{cc}\to \Sigma_{c}^*(\Xi_{c}^*)$. We compute the hadronic form factors for the transitions and apply them to study the decay widths of the semi-leptonic $\mathcal B_i(\frac{1}{2}^+)\to\mathcal B_f(\frac{3}{2}^+) l\bar{\nu}_l$ and non-leptonic $\mathcal B_i(\frac{1}{2}^+)\to\mathcal B_f(\frac{3}{2}^+)M$. Previously we studied the transition $\Sigma_{b} \to \Sigma_{c}^*$ with the quark-diquark picture of baryon in the light-front quark model. Here we revisit this transition with three-quark picture of baryon. At the quark level, the transition $\Sigma_{b} \to \Sigma_{c}^*$ is induced by the $b\rightarrow c$ transition.The subsystem of the two unchanged light quarks which possesses definite and same spin in initial and final state can be viewed as a spectator, so the spectator approximation can be applied directly. For the weak decay of doubly charmed baryon $\Xi_{cc}$, a $c$ quark decays to a light quark $q_1$, so both the initial state $cc$ and final state $q_1q_2$ ($q_1$ and the original $q_2$ in initial state may be the same flavor quarks) which possess definite spin are no longer spectators. A rearrangement of quarks for initial and final states is adopted to isolate the unchanged subsystem $cq_2$ which can be viewed as the spectator approximately. Future measurements on these channels will constrain the nonperturbative parameter in the wavefunctions and test the model predictions.

CKM Physics from B Decays using the CLEO Experiment

Abstract:We report on studies of three types of B-meson decay that can contribute to an understanding of fundamental intergenerational quark mixing, charge-conjugation--parity violation, and long-distance quantum chromodynamics. Specifically, we discuss a selection of analyses related to the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa (CKM) parameters Vcb, Vub, alpha, and gamma, and the nonperturbative heavy quark effective theory quantities lambda_1 and lambda_bar. We first describe an examination of the first and second moments of the hadronic-recoil mass and charged-lepton energy spectra in inclusive b -> c l nu decays. We also report on the reconstruction, using similar experimental techniques, of the CKM-suppressed decay B -> rho l nu and the extraction of its branching fraction, Br(B0 -> rho- l+ nu) = (2.57 +- 0.29 +0.33/-0.46 +- 0.41) x 10E-4, as well as the value |Vub| = (3.25 +- 0.14 +0.21/-0.29 +- 0.55) x 10E-3, where the uncertainties are statistical, systematic, and due to model dependence, respectively. Finally, we present results on rare two-body charmless hadronic B -> K pi, pi pi, and K K decays and comment briefly on their implications to the geometry of the CKM unitarity triangle, including a bound on gamma.

Heavy-Light Meson Semileptonic Decays with Staggered Light Quarks

Abstract:We report on exploratory studies of heavy-light meson semileptonic decays using Asqtad light quarks, NRQCD heavy quarks and Symanzik improved glue on coarse quenched lattices. Oscillatory contributions to three-point correlators coming from the staggered light quarks are found to be handled well by Bayesian fitting methods. B meson decays to both the Goldstone pion and to one of the point-split non-Goldstone pions are investigated. One-loop perturbative matching of NRQCD/Asqtad heavy-light currents is incorporated.

Abstract:We study the partial decay widths of charmonium (bottomonium) states to ${\rm D\bar D \; (B\bar B)}$ mesons in magnetized (nuclear) matter using a field theoretical model of composite hadrons with quark (and antiquark) constituents. These are computed from the mass modifications of the decaying and produced mesons within a chiral effective model, including the nucleon Dirac sea effects. The mass modifications of the open charm (bottom) mesons are calculated from their interactions with the nucleons and the scalar mesons, whereas the mass shift of the heavy quarkonium state is obtained from the medium change of a scalar dilaton field, $\chi$, which mimics the gluon condensates of QCD. The Dirac sea contributions are observed to lead to a rise (drop) in the quark condensates as the magnetic field is increased, an effect called the (inverse) magnetic catalysis. These effects are observed to be significant and the anomalous magnetic moments (AMMs) of the nucleons are observed to play an important role. For $\rho_B$=0, there is observed to be magnetic catalysis (MC) without and with AMMs, whereas, for $\rho_B=\rho_0$, the inverse magnetic catalysis (IMC) is observed when the AMMs are taken into account, contrary to MC, when the AMMs are ignored. In the presence of a magnetic field, there are also mixings of spin 0 (pseudoscalar) and spin 1 (vector) states (PV mixing) which modify the masses of these mesons. The magnetic field effects on the heavy quarkonium decay widths should have observable consequences on the production the heavy flavour mesons, which are created in the early stage of ultra-relativistic peripheral heavy ion collisions, at RHIC and LHC, when the produced magnetic fields can still be extremely large.

Predictions of Light Hadronic Decays of Heavy Quarkoniumd21states in Nonrelativistic QCD

Abstract:The inclusive light hadronic decays of $^{1}D_{2}$ heavy quarkonia are studied within the framework of the nonrelativistic QCD at the leading order in $v$ and up to the order of ${\ensuremath{\alpha}}_{s}^{3}$. With one-loop QCD corrections, the infrared divergences and Coulomb singularities in the decay amplitudes are proved to be absorbed by the renormalization of the matrix elements of corresponding nonrelativistic QCD operators, and the infrared finite short-distance coefficients are obtained through the matching calculations. By taking the factorization scale to be $2{m}_{Q}$, the light hadronic decay widths are estimated to be about 274, 4.7, and 8.8 KeV for ${\ensuremath{\eta}}_{c2}$, ${\ensuremath{\eta}}_{b2}$, and ${\ensuremath{\eta}}_{b2}^{\ensuremath{'}}$, respectively. Based on the above estimates, and using the E1 transition width and dipion transition width for ${\ensuremath{\eta}}_{c2}$ estimated elsewhere, we get the total width of ${\ensuremath{\eta}}_{c2}$ to be about 660--810 KeV, and the branching ratio of the E1 transition ${\ensuremath{\eta}}_{c2}\ensuremath{\rightarrow}\ensuremath{\gamma}{h}_{c}$ to be about (44--54)%, which will be useful in searching for this missing charmonium state through, e.g., ${\ensuremath{\eta}}_{c2}\ensuremath{\rightarrow}\ensuremath{\gamma}{h}_{c}$ followed by ${h}_{c}\ensuremath{\rightarrow}\ensuremath{\gamma}{\ensuremath{\eta}}_{c}$.
Off-shell vertices in heavy particle effective theories and $B\rightarrow Dπ\ell ν$

Abstract:We study the modifications to decay amplitudes in heavy to heavy semileptonic decays with multiple hadrons in the final state due to intermediate heavy hadrons being off-shell or having a finite width. Combining Heavy Hadron Chiral Perturbation Theory (HH$\chi$PT) with a BCFW on-shell factorization formula, we show that these effects induce $O(1/M)$ corrections to the standard results computed in the narrow-width approximation and therefore are important in extracting form factors from data. A combination of perturbative unitarity, analyticity, and reparameterization invariance fully determine these corrections in terms of known Isgur-Wise functions without the need to introduce new form factors. In doing so, we develop a novel technique to compute the boundary term at complex infinity in the BCFW formula for theories with derivatively coupled scalars. While we have used the $\bar B\rightarrow D\pi \ell\nu$ decay as an example, these techniques can generally be applied to effective field theories with (multiple) distinct reference vectors.

The Quark Axial-Vector Coupling And Heavy Meson Decays

Abstract:Form factors and decay widths for D* --> D gamma and D* --> D pi decays are estimated in a relativistic constituent quark model. Relativistic corrections due to tight quarks are found to be substantial and to suppress the vector and axial vector form factors. The CLEO experimental value of R(gamma)(0) = Gamma (D*(0) --> D-0 gamma/Gamma(D*(0) --> D-0 pi(0)) = 0.572 +/- 0.057 +/- 0.081 is used to determine the quark axial vector coupling g(A), which is found to be 0.6-0.8 for m(u), (350-200) MeV correspondingly, as compared with the chiral model result g(A) = 0.8-0.9. The heavy meson-pion strong coupling g is found to be 0.4-0.6, much smaller than g = 1 which is expected in the large N-c and nonrelativistic limit, but consistent with some heavy hadron chiral theory and QCD sum rule results.
Deciphering the Charged Heavy Quarkoniumlike States in Chiral Effective Field Theory

Abstract:We generalize the framework of chiral effective field theory to study the interactions of the isovector D*(D) over bar(*) and B*(B) over bar(*) systems up to the next-to-leading order, in which the long-, mid-, and short-range force contributions as well as the S-D wave mixing are incorporated. Based on the Lippmann-Schwinger equation, we fit the invariant mass distributions of the elastic channels measured by the BESIII and Belle Collaborations. Our results indicate that the four charged charmoniumlike and bottomoniumlike states Z(c)(3900), Z(c)(4020) and Z(b)(10610), Z(b)(10650) can be well identified as the D (D) over bar*, D*(D) over bar* and B (B) over bar*, B*(B) over bar* molecular resonances. The bound state explanations are vetoed in our framework. Our study favors the Z(c) and Z(b) states are the twin partners under the heavy quark symmetry.

Abstract:Lattice QCD calculations in charm and bottom physics are particularly important because they can provide the hadronic weak decay matrix elements needed for key constraints on the CKM Unitarity Triangle. I will summarise recent results in this area, paying particular attention to sources of error, comparison between methods and tests of results against experiment, for example, in the spectrum. Updated world averages for decay constants this year are : $f_{D_s}$=248.6(2.4) MeV; $f_D$ = 212.1(3.4) MeV; $f_{B_s}$ = 227(4) MeV; $f_B$ = 190(4) MeV. Note that B decay constants are clearly lower than the corresponding D decay constants. Improved $D$ semileptonic form factors, both shape and normalisation, now allow the direct determination of $V_{cs}$ and $V_{cd}$ to 3% and 5% respectively. This year we also have a clear demonstration that dependence of form factors on the spectator quark mass between light and strange is very small. Apart from the phenomenology implications, this has practical application to the normalisation of branching fractions in experiment. The current best Standard model rate for a key LHC mode sensitive to new physics - $B_{(s)} \rightarrow \mu^+\mu^-$ - is derived from lattice QCD calculations on $B/B_s$ mixing rates. I will discuss the current result and prospects for improving lattice QCD errors.

Abstract:We first improve the previous results on the masses of the doublets (0+,1+) and (1+,2+) with QCD sum rules up to the order of script O sign(1/mQ) in HQET. With the mass matrix of the two 1+ states, we obtain the mixing angle for the two states and construct the interpolating currents which couple to only one of the two eigenstates up to the order script O sign(1/mQ). Using these results we derive the light-cone sum rules for the amplitudes of the pionic decay of B1 and B*2 up to the order script O sign(1/mQ) in HQET. The script O sign(1/mQ) terms in these amplitudes are found to be small. When applied to D1 and D*2 the theoretical results are in good agreement with experimental data though the theoretical uncertainty is sizable for the D system.
