Abstract:In this paper, we consider the following nonlocal parabolic equation \begin{equation*} u_{t}-\Delta u=\left( \int_{\Omega}\frac{|u(y,t)|^{2^{\ast}_{\mu}}}{|x-y|^{\mu}}dy\right) |u|^{2^{\ast}_{\mu}-2}u,\ \text{in}\ \Omega\times(0,\infty), \end{equation*} where $\Omega$ is a bounded domain in $\mathbb{R}^{N}$, $0<\mu<N$ and $2^{\ast}_{\mu}=(2N-\mu)/(N-2)$ denotes the critical exponent in the sense of the Hardy-Littlewood-Sobolev inequality. We first introduce the stable and unstable sets for the equation and prove that the problem has a potential well structure. Next, we investigate the global asymptotic behavior of the solutions. In particular, we study the behavior of the global solutions that intersect neither with the stable set nor the unstable set. Finally, we prove that global solutions have $L^{\infty}$-uniform bound under some natural conditions.

Abstract:This paper is devoted to studying the Sobolev-type stochastic differential equations with Lévy noise and mixed fractional Brownian motion. Applying a method (principle) of comparability of functions by character of Shcherbakov recurrence, it characters at least one (or exactly one) solution with the same properties as the coefficients of the equation. We establish the existence of Poisson stable solutions for the Sobolev-type equation, which includes periodic solutions, quasi-periodic solutions, almost periodic solutions, almost automorphic solutions, etc. We also obtain the global asymptotical stability of bounded Poisson stable solutions and present an example to illustrate our theoretical results.

Abstract:Under the conditions of both the initial data being the small perturbation of given steady state solution and the boundary strength being small, the global existence of smooth solution to the initial boundary value problem of the relativistic Euler-Poisson equations is proved. The convergence of the global smooth solution to smooth steady state solution in time exponentially is also obtained when time goes to infinity.

Abstract:<p>We are concerned with the asymptotics and perturbation analysis of a singular second-order nonlinear ODE that models capillary rise of a fluid inside a narrow vertical tube. We prove the convergence of the exact solution to a unperturbed solution when a nondimensional parameter decrease to zero. Furthermore, we provide an accurate method of approximating the asymptotic solution for large times. Due to the a fact that the nonlinear component in the main equation does not satisfy the Lipschitz continuity condition the methods used to prove the main theorems are nonstandard, require careful analysis, and can be useful in dealing with similar nonlinear ODEs.</p>

Abstract:We study the blow-up problem of one-dimensional nonlinear heat equations. Our result shows that for a certain class of initial conditions, the solutions blow up in finite time and we characterize the asymptotic dynamics of these solutions. The approach is analogous to one used in bifurcation theory and our techniques can be regarded as a time-dependent version of the Lyapunov-Schmidt decomposition.

Abstract:We characterize the asymptotic behavior near blowup points for positive solutions of the semilinear heat equation \begin{equation*} \partial_t u-\Delta u =f(u), \end{equation*} for nonlinearities which are genuinely non scale invariant, unlike in the standard case $f(u)=u^p$. Indeed, our results apply to a large class of nonlinearities of the form $f(u)=u^pL(u)$, where $p>1$ is Sobolev subcritical and $L$ is a slowly varying function at infinity (which includes for instance logarithms and their powers and iterates, as well as some strongly oscillating functions). More precisely, denoting by $\psi$ the unique positive solution of the corresponding ODE $y'(t)=f(y(t))$ which blows up at the same time $T$, we show that if $a\in\Omega$ is a blowup point of $u$, then \begin{equation*} \lim_{t\to T}\frac{u(a+y\sqrt{T-t},t)}{\psi(t)}= 1,\quad \text{uniformly for $y$ bounded.} \end{equation*} Additional blow-up properties are obtained, including the compactness of the blow-up set for the Cauchy problem with decaying initial data.

Long time numerical stability of implicit schemes for stochastic heat equations

Abstract:This paper studies the long time stability of both stochastic heat equations on a bounded domain driven by a correlated noise and their approximations. It is popular for researchers to prove the intermittency of the solution which means that the moments of solution to stochastic heat equation usually grow exponentially to infinite and this hints that the solution to stochastic heat equation is generally not stable in long time. However, quite surprisingly in this paper we show that when the domain is bounded and when the noise is not singular in spatial variables, the system can be long time stable and we also prove that we can approximate the solution by its finite dimensional spectral approximation which is also long time stable. The idea is to use eigenfunction expansion of the Laplacian on bounded domain. We also present numerical experiments which are consistent with our theoretical results.

Abstract:It was proved by Karch and Pilarzyc that Landau solutions are asymptotically stable under any $L^2$-perturbation. In our earlier work with L. Li, we have classified all $(-1)$-homogeneous axisymmetric no-swirl solutions of incompressible stationary Navier-Stokes equations in three dimension which are smooth on the unit sphere minus the south and north poles. In this paper, we study the asymptotic stability of the least singular solutions among these solutions other than Landau solutions, and prove that such solutions are asymptotically stable under any $L^2$-perturbation.

Abstract:It is known that there has been classified for all $(-1)$-homogeneous axisymmetric no-swirl solutions of the three-dimensional Navier-Stokes equations with a possible singular ray. The main purpose of this paper is to show that the least singular solutions among such solutions other than Landau solutions to the Navier-Stokes equations are asymptotically stable under $L^{3}$-perturbations. Moreover, we establish the $L^{q}$ decay estimate with an explicit decay rate and a sharp constant for any $q>3$. For that purpose, we first study the global well-posedness of solutions to the perturbed equations under small initial data in $L_{\sigma}^{3}$ space and the local well-posedness with any initial data in $L_{\sigma}^{p}$ spaces for $p\geq3$.

Asymptotic behavior of positive singular solutions to fractional Hardy-H\'enon equations

Abstract: In this paper, we study the asymptotic behavior of positive solutions of fractional Hardy-H\'enon equation $$ (-\Delta)^\sigma u = |x|^\alpha u^p, ~~~~~~~ x \in B_1 \backslash \{0\} $$ with an isolated singularity at the origin, where $\sigma \in (0, 1)$ and the punctured unit ball $B_1 \backslash \{0\} \subset \mathbb{R}^n$ with $n \geq 2$. When $-2\sigma < \alpha < 2\sigma$ and $\frac{n+\alpha}{n-2\sigma} < p < \frac{n+2\sigma}{n-2\sigma}$, we give a classification of isolated singularities of positive solutions near $x=0$. Further, we prove the asymptotic behavior of positive singular solutions as $x\to 0$. These results parallel those known for the Laplacian counterpart proved by Caffarelli, Gidas and Spruck (Caffarelli, Gidas and Spruck in Comm Pure Appl Math, 1981, 1989), but the methods are very different, since the ODEs analysis is a missing ingredient in the fractional case. Our proofs are based on a monotonicity formula, combined with a blow up (down) argument, the Kelvin transformation and the uniqueness of solutions of related degenerate equations on $\mathbb{S}^{n}_+$. We also investigate isolated singularities located at infinity of fractional Hardy-H\'enon equation.

Abstract:This paper proposes a new approach to the study of direct and inverse problems for a singularly perturbed heat equation with nonlinear temperature-dependent diffusion, based on the further development and use of asymptotic analysis methods in the nonlinear singularly perturbed reactiondiffusion-advection problems. The essence of the approach is presented using the example of a class of one-dimensional stationary problems with nonlinear boundary conditions, for which the case of applicability of asymptotic analysis is highlighted. Sufficient conditions for the existence of classical solutions of the boundary layer type and the type of contrast structures are formulated, asymptotic approximations of an arbitrary order of accuracy of such solutions are constructed, algorithms for constructing formal asymptotics are substantiated, and the Lyapunov asymptotic stability of stationary solutions with boundary and internal layers as solutions to the corresponding parabolic problems is investigated. A class of nonlinear problems that take into account lateral heat exchange with the environment according to Newton’s law is considered. A theorem on the existence and uniqueness of a classical solution with boundary layers in problems of this type is proven. As applications of the study, methods for solving specific direct and inverse problems of nonlinear heat transfer related to increasing the operating efficiency of rectilinear heating elements in the smelting furnaces — heat exchangers are presented: the calculation of thermal fields in the heating elements and the method for restoring the coefficients of thermal diffusion and heat transfer from modeling data.

Abstract:In this work, we study the asymptotic behaviour of solutions to the heat equation in exterior domains, i.e., domains which are the complement of a smooth compact set in $\mathbb{R}^N$. Different homogeneous boundary conditions are considered, including Dirichlet, Robin, and Neumann ones. In this second part of our work, we consider the case of bounded initial data and prove that, after some correction term, the solutions become close to the solutions in the whole space and show how complex behaviours appear. We also analyse the case of initial data in $L^p$ with $1<p<\infty$ where all solutions essentially decay to $0$ and the convergence rate could be arbitrarily slow.

Abstract:We investigate the strict positivity and the compact support property of solutions to the one-dimensional nonlinear stochastic heat equation: $$\partial_t u(t,x) = \frac{1}{2}\partial^2_x u(t,x) + \sigma(u(t,x))\dot{W}(t,x), \quad (t,x)\in \mathbf{R}_+\times\mathbf{R},$$ with nonnegative and compactly supported initial data $u_0$, where $\dot{W}$ is the space-time white noise and $\sigma:\mathbf{R} \to \mathbf{R} $ is a continuous function with $\sigma(0)=0$. We prove that (i) if $v/ \sigma(v)$ is sufficiently large near $v=0$, then the solution $u(t,\cdot)$ is strictly positive for all $t>0$, and (ii) if $v/\sigma(v)$ is sufficiently small near $v= 0$, then the solution $u(t,\cdot)$ has compact support for all $t>0$. These findings extend previous results concerning the strict positivity and the compact support property, which were analyzed only for the case $\sigma(u)\approx u^\gamma$ for $\gamma>0$. Additionally, we establish the uniqueness of a solution and the weak comparison principle in case (i).

Abstract:This article considers the initial boundary value problem for the heat equation with the time-dependent Sturm-Liouville operator with singular potentials. To obtain a solution by the method of separation of variables, the problem is reduced to the problem of eigenvalues of the Sturm-Liouville operator. Further on, the solution to the initial boundary value problem is constructed in the form of a Fourier series expansion. A heterogeneous case is also considered. Finally, we establish the well-posedness of the equation in the case when the potential and initial data are distributions, also for singular time-dependent coefficients.

Abstract:We study stability, long-time behavior and moment estimates for stochastic evolution equations with additive Wiener noise and with singular drift given by a divergence type quasilinear diffusion operator which may not necessarily exhibit a homogeneous diffusivity. Our results cover the singular stochastic $p$-Laplace equations and, more generally, singular stochastic $\Phi$-Laplace equations with zero Dirichlet boundary conditions. We obtain improved moment estimates and quantitative convergence rates of the ergodic semigroup to the unique invariant measure, classified in a systematic way according to the degree of local degeneracy of the potential at the origin. We obtain new concentration results for the invariant measure and establish maximal dissipativity of the associated Kolmogorov operator. In particular, we recover the results for the curve shortening flow in the plane by Es-Sarhir, von Renesse and Stannat, NoDEA 16(9), 2012, and improve the results by Liu and Tölle, ECP 16, 2011.

Nonlinear asymptotic stability in $L^\infty$ for Lipschitz solutions to scalar conservation laws

Abstract:In this note, we show nonlinear stability in $L^\infty$ for Lipschitz solutions to genuinely nonlinear, multi-dimensional scalar conservation laws. As an application, we are able to compute explicit algebraic decay rates of the $L^\infty$ norm of perturbations of global-in-time Lipschitz solutions, including perturbations of planar rarefaction waves. Our analysis uses the De Giorgi method applied to the kinetic formulation and is an extension of the method introduced recently by Silvestre in [Comm. Pure Appl. Math., 72(6):1321-1348, 2019].

Asymptotic properties of stochastic partial differential equations in the sublinear regime

Abstract:In this paper, we investigate stochastic heat equation with sublinear diffusion coefficients. By assuming certain concavity of the diffusion coefficient, we establish non-trivial moment upper bounds and almost sure spatial asymptotic properties for the solutions. These results shed light on the smoothing intermittency effect under weak diffusion (i.e., sublinear growth) previously observed by Zeldovich et al. [Zel+87]. The sample-path spatial asymptotics obtained in this paper partially bridge a gap in earlier works of Conus et al. [CJK13; Con+13], which focused on two extreme scenarios: a linear diffusion coefficient and a bounded diffusion coefficient. Our approach is highly robust and applicable to a variety of stochastic partial differential equations, including the one-dimensional stochastic wave equation and the stochastic fractional diffusion equations.
