Abstract:Some statements concerning the distribution of imaginary parts of zeros of the Riemann zeta\,-function are established. These assertions are connected with so\,-called `Gram's law' or `Gram's rule'. In particular, we give a proof of several Selberg's formulae stated him without proof in his paper `The Zeta Function and the Riemann Hypothesis' (1946), and some of their equivalents.

Abstract:This paper extends the work done by Titchmarsh on Gram's Law (an attempt to locate the zeroes of the zeta-function on the critical line). Herewith it is shown that a positive proportion of Gram intervals violate Gram's Law; and also that a weaker notion of Gram's Law is valid over a positive proportion of intervals.

Abstract:In this paper we briefly discuss some of our recent results in the study of moduli space of Riemann surfaces. It is naturally divided into two parts, one about the differential geometric aspect, another on the topological aspect of the moduli spaces. To understand the geometry of the moduli spaces we introduced new metrics, studied in detail all of the known classical complete metrics, especially the Kähler-Einstein metric. As a corollary we proved that the logarithmic cotangent bundle of the moduli space is strictly stable in the sense of Mumford. The topological results we obtained were motivated by conjectures from string theory. We will describe in this part our proofs by localization method of the Mariño-Vafa formula, its two partition analogue as well as the theory of topological vertex and the simple localization proofs of the ELSV formula and the Witten conjecture. The applications of these formulas in Gromov-Witten theory and string duality will also be mentioned.

Abstract:We generalize a theorem by Titchmarsh about the mean value of Hardy's $Z$-function at the Gram points to the Hecke $L$-functions, which in turn implies the weak Gram law for them. Instead of proceeding analogously to Titchmarsh with an approximate functional equation we employ a different method using contour integration.

Abstract:We derive formulae for Gram matrices arising in the Nyman--Beurling reformulation of the Riemann hypothesis. The development naturally leads upon series of the form $S(x) = \sum_{n\ge 1} R(nx)$ and their reciprocity relations. We give integral representations of these series; and we present decompositions of the quadratic forms associated with the Gram matrices along with a discussion of the components' properties.

The $A$-philosophy for the Hardy $Z$-Function

Abstract:In recent works we have introduced the parameter space $\mathcal{Z}_N$ of $A$-variations of the Hardy $Z$-function, $Z(t)$, whose elements are functions of the form \begin{equation} \label{eq:Z-sections} Z_N(t ; \overline{a} ) = \cos(\theta(t))+ \sum_{k=1}^{N} \frac{a_k}{\sqrt{k+1} } \cos ( \theta (t) - \ln(k+1) t), \end{equation} where $\overline{a} = (a_1,...,a_N) \in \mathbb{R}^N$. The $ A $-philosophy advocates that studying the discriminant hypersurface forming within such parameter spaces, often reveals essential insights about the original mathematical object and its zeros. In this paper we apply the $A$-philosophy to our space $\mathcal{Z}_N$ by introducing $ \Delta_n(\overline{a} ) $ the $n$-th Gram discriminant of $ Z(t) $. We show that the Riemann Hypothesis (RH) is equivalent to the corrected Gram's law \[ (-1)^n \Delta_n(\overline{1}) > 0, \] for any $n \in \mathbb{Z}$. We further show that the classical Gram's law $ (-1)^n Z(g_n) >0$ can be considered as a first-order approximation of our corrected law. The second-order approximation of $\Delta_n (\overline{a})$ is then shown to be related to shifts of Gram points along the $ t $-axis. This leads to the discovery of a new, previously unobserved, repulsion phenomena \[ \left| Z'(g_n) \right| > 4 \left| Z(g_n) \right|, \] for bad Gram points $g_n$ whose consecutive neighbours $g_{n \pm 1}$ are good. Our analysis of the $A$-variation space $\mathcal{Z}_N$ introduces a wealth of new results on the zeros of $Z(t)$, casting new light on classical questions such as Gram's law, the Montgomery pair-correlation conjecture, and the RH, and also unveils previously unknown fundamental properties.

Abstract:The goal of this paper is to give a relatively simple proof of some known zero density estimates for Riemann zeta function which are sufficiently strong to break the density hypothesis in a nontrivial part of the critical strip. Apart from a simple but ingenious idea of Halasz the proof uses only classical knowledge about the zeta function, results known since at least hundred years.

Abstract:Inspired by a result of Soundararajan, assuming the Riemann hypothesis (RH), we prove a new inequality for the logarithm of the modulus of the Riemann zeta-function on the critical line in terms of a Dirichlet polynomial over primes and prime powers. Our proof uses the Guinand-Weil explicit formula in conjunction with extremal one-sided bandlimited approximations for the Poisson kernel. As an application, by carefully estimating the Dirichlet polynomial, we revisit a 100-year-old estimate of Littlewood and give a slight refinement of the sharpest known upper bound (due to Chandee and Soundararajan) for the modulus of the zeta function on the critical line assuming RH, by providing explicit lower-order terms.

Abstract:We give a probabilistic interpretation of the Dedekind zeta functions of $\mathbb{Q}(\sqrt{-1})$ and $\mathbb{Q}(\sqrt{-2})$ using zeta integrals and use this to show that the first two Li coefficients of these zeta functions are positive. This extends a result of Biane, Pitman, and Yor (2001) which considered the case of the Riemann zeta function.

Abstract:In this paper, we establish new explicit bounds for the Mertens function $M(x)$. In particular, we compare $M(x)$ against a short-sum over the non-trivial zeros of the Riemann zeta-function $\zeta(s)$, whose difference we can bound using recent computations and explicit bounds for the reciprocal of $\zeta(s)$. Using this relationship, we are able to prove explicit versions of $M(x) \ll x\exp\left(-\eta_1 \sqrt{\log{x}}\right)$ and $M(x) \ll x\exp\left(-\eta_2 (\log{x})^{3/5} (\log\log{x})^{-1/5}\right)$ for some $\eta_i > 0$. Our bounds with the latter form are the first explicit results of their kind. In the process of proving these, we establish another novel result, namely explicit bounds of the form $1/\zeta(\sigma + it) \ll (\log{t})^{2/3} (\log\log{t})^{1/4}$.

Abstract:Here, we study both analytically and numerically, an integral $Z(\sigma,r)$ related to the mean value of a generalized moment of Riemann's zeta function. Analytically, we predict finite, but discontinuous values and verify the prediction numerically, employing a modified form of Cesàro summation. Further, it is proven and verified numerically that for certain values of $\sigma$, the derivative function $Z^{\prime}(\sigma,n)$ equates to one generalized tine of the Dirac comb function without recourse to the use of limits, test functions or distributions. A surprising outcome of the numerical study arises from the observation that the proper integral form of the derivative function is quasi-periodic, which in turn suggests a periodicity of the integrand. This possibility is also explored and it is found experimentally that zeta function values offset (shifted) over certain segments of the imaginary complex number line are moderately auto-correlated.

On a new Gram determinant from the Möbius band

Abstract:Gram determinants earned traction among knot theorists after E. Witten's presumption about the existence of a 3-manifold invariant connected to the Jones polynomial. Triggered by the creation of such an invariant by N. Reshetikhin and V. Turaev, several mathematicians have explored this line of research ever since. Gram determinants came into play by W. B. Raymond Lickorish's skein theoretic approach to the invariant. The construction of different bilinear forms is possible through changes in the ambient surface of the Kauffman bracket skein module. Hence, different types of Gram determinants have arisen in knot theory throughout the years; some of these determinants are discussed here. In this article, we introduce a new version of such a determinant from the Möbius band and prove some important results about its structure. In particular, we explore its connection to the annulus case and factors of its closed formula.

Abstract:In this paper, we prove Selberg's announced result on r ‐gaps between zeros of the Riemann zeta‐function ζ . Our proof uses a result on variations of argζ by Tsang based on Selberg's method. The same result with explicit constants under the Riemann Hypothesis has been obtained by Conrey and Turnage‐Butterbaugh using a different method. We explain how to obtain explicit constants under the Riemann Hypothesis using our approach which is based on Selberg's and Tsang's arguments.

Abstract:In 2008 I thought I found a proof of the Riemann Hypothesis, but there was an error. In the Spring 2020 I believed to have fixed the error, but it cannot be fixed. I describe here where the error was. It took me several days to find the error in a careful checking before a possible submission to a payable review offered by one leading journal. There were three simple lemmas and one simple theorem, all were correct, yet there was an error: what Lemma 2 proved was not exactly what Lemma 3 needed. So, it was the connection of the lemmas. This paper came out empty, but I have found a different proof of the Riemann Hypothesis and it seems so far correct. In the discussion at the end of this paper I raise a matter that I think is of importance to the review process in mathematics.
