Abstract:We prove that weak solutions of a slightly supercritical quasi-geostrophic equation become smooth for large time. We prove it using a De Giorgi type argument using ideas from a recent paper by Caffarelli and Vasseur.

Abstract:In this paper, we prove the global regularity of smooth solutions to 2D surface quasi-geostrophic (SQG) equations with super-critical dissipation for a class of large initial data, where the velocity and temperature can be arbitrarily large in spaces $L^\infty(\mathbb{R}^2)$ and $H^3(\mathbb{R}^2)$. This result could be seen as an improvement work of Liu-Pan-Wu \cite{Liu}, for it's without any smallness hypothesis of the $L^\infty(\mathbb{R}^2)$ norm of the initial data.

Abstract:This paper studies the dissipative generalized surface quasi-geostrophic equations in a supercritical regime where the order of the dissipation is small relative to order of the velocity, and the velocities are less regular than the advected scalar by up to one order of derivative. We also consider a non-degenerate modification of the endpoint case in which the velocity is less smooth than the advected scalar by slightly more than one order. The existence and uniqueness theory of these equations in the borderline Sobolev spaces is addressed, as well as the instantaneous smoothing effect of their corresponding solutions. In particular, it is shown that solutions emanating from initial data belonging to these Sobolev classes immediately enter a Gevrey class. Such results appear to be the first of its kind for a quasilinear parabolic equation whose coefficients are of higher order than its linear term; they rely on an approximation scheme which modifies the flux so as to preserve the underlying commutator structure lost by having to work in the critical space setting, as well as delicate adaptations of well-known commutator estimates to Gevrey classes.

Abstract:We consider the two dimensional surface quasi-geostrophic equations with super-critical dissipation. For large initial data in critical Sobolev and Besov spaces, we prove optimal Gevrey regularity with the same decay exponent as the linear part. This settles several open problems in \cite{Bis14, BMS15}.

Abstract:This paper studies solutions of the two-dimensional incompressible Boussinesq equations with fractional dissipation. The spatial domain is a periodic box. The Boussinesq equations concerned here govern the coupled evolution of the fluid velocity and the temperature and have applications in fluid mechanics and geophysics. When the dissipation is in the supercritical regime (the sum of the fractional powers of the Laplacians in the velocity and the temperature equations is less than 1), the classical solutions of the Boussinesq equations are not known to be global in time. Leray–Hopf type weak solutions do exist. This paper proves that such weak solutions become eventually regular (smooth after some time T>0$$T>0$$) when the fractional Laplacian powers are in a suitable supercritical range. This eventual regularity is established by exploiting the regularity of a combined quantity of the vorticity and the temperature as well as the eventual regularity of a generalized supercritical surface quasi-geostrophic equation.

Abstract:The paper is devoted to the study of slightly supercritical active scalars with nonlocal diffusion. We prove global regularity for the surface quasi-geostrophic (SQG) and Burgers equations, when the diffusion term is supercritical by a symbol with roughly logarithmic behavior at infinity. We show that the result is sharp for the Burgers equation. We also prove global regularity for a slightly supercritical two-dimensional Euler equation. Our main tool is a nonlocal maximum principle which controls a certain modulus of continuity of the solutions.

Abstract:For any subcritical index of regularity s > 3/2, we prove the almost global well posedness for the 2-dimensional semilinear wave equation with the cubic nonlinearity in the derivatives, when the initial data are small in the Sobolev space H s × H s−1 with certain angular regularity. The lifespan is known to be sharp in general. The main new ingredient in the proof is an endpoint version of the generalized Strichartz estimates in the space . In the last section, we also consider the general semilinear wave equations with the spatial dimension n ≥ 2 and the order of nonlinearity p ≥ 3.
Regularization by rough Kraichnan noise for the generalised SQG equations

Abstract:We consider the generalised Surface Quasi-Geostrophic (gSQG) equations in $\mathbb R^2$ with parameter $\beta\in (0,1)$, an active scalar model interpolating between SQG ($\beta=1$) and the 2D Euler equations ($\beta=0$) in vorticity form. Existence of weak $(L^1\cap L^p)$-valued solutions in the deterministic setting is known, but their uniqueness is open. We show that the addition of a rough Stratonovich transport noise of Kraichnan type regularizes the PDE, providing strong existence and pathwise uniqueness of solutions for initial data $\theta_0\in L^1\cap L^p$, for suitable values $p\in[2,\infty]$ related to the regularity degree $\alpha$ of the noise and the singularity degree $\beta$ of the velocity field; in particular, we can cover any $\beta\in (0,1)$ for suitable $\alpha$ and $p$ and we can reach a suitable ("critical") threshold. The result also holds in the presence of external forcing $f\in L^1_t (L^1\cap L^p)$ and solutions are shown to depend continuously on the data of the problem; furthermore, they are well approximated by vanishing viscosity and regular approximations.

Abstract:In this paper, we investigate some priori estimates to provide the critical regularity criteria for incompressible Navier-Stokes equations on and super critical surface quasi-geostrophic equations on . Concerning the Navier-Stokes equations, we demonstrate that a Leray-Hopf solution is regular if , or in Lorentz space , with . Additionally, an alternative regularity condition is expressed as ( ), contingent upon a smallness assumption on the norm . For the surface quasi-geostrophic equations, we derive that a Leray-Hopf weak solution is smooth for any small enough. Similar to the case of Navier-Stokes equations, we derive regularity criteria in more refined spaces, i.e. Lorentz spaces and addition of two critical spaces , with smallness assumption on .

Abstract:In this paper, we study the partial regularity of the solutions for the three-dimensional Boussinesq equations. We first prove a criterion of local Hölder continuous of the suitable weak solutions of the Boussinesq equations, and show that one-dimensional Hausdorff measure of the singular point set is zero. Secondly, we present a local uniform gradient estimate on the suitable weak solutions and assert that the local behavior of the solution can be dominated by some scaled quantities, such as the scaled local L3-norm of the velocity. Besides, when the initial data v0 and θ0 decay sufficiently rapidly at ∞, the distribution of the regular point set of the suitable weak solutions is also considered. Based on it, one can find that MHD equations are more similar to Navier–Stokes equations than Boussinesq equations. Finally, we give a local regularity criterion of the suitable weak solutions near the boundary.

Abstract:The problem of regularity and uniqueness are open for the supercritically dissipative surface quasi-geostrophic equations in certain classes. In this note we examine the extent to which small or large scales are necessarily active both for the temperature in a hypothetical blow-up scenario and for the error in hypothetical non-uniqueness scenarios, the latter understood within the class of Marchand's solutions. This extends prior work for the 3D Navier-Stokes equations. The extension is complicated by the fact that mild solution techniques are unavailable for supercritical SQG. This forces us to develop a new approach using energy methods and Littlewood-Paley theory.

Abstract:It is known that global well-posedness for the supercritical SQG equation remains open, even the smooth data. In this paper, motivated by the recent work Cannone et al. (2013), we provide a simpler approach to the proof of global well-posedness for the supercritical SQG equation with large dispersive forcing, even with small viscosity. As an application, we prove global well-posedness for the 2D dissipative Boussinesq equations with small viscosity and large background data.

Abstract:This article is devoted to the derivation of the incompressible sub-Riemannian Euler and the sub-Riemannian Navier-Stokes systems, and the analysis of the last one in the case of the Heisenberg group. In contrast to the classical Navier-Stokes system in the Euclidean setting, the diffusion is not elliptic but only hypoelliptic, and the commutator of the Leray projector and the hypoelliptic Laplacian is of order two. Yet, we study the existence of solutions in two different settings: within the $L^2$ setting which provides global existence of weak solutions; within a critical scale-invariant Sobolev-type space, associated with the regularity of the generators of the first stratum of the Lie algebra of right-invariant vector fields. In this latter class, we establish global existence of solutions for small data and a stability estimate in the energy spaces which ensures the uniqueness of the solutions in this class. Furthermore, we show in this setting that these solutions instantly become analytic in the vertical direction. Surprisingly, we obtain a larger lower bound of the radius of analyticity in the vertical direction for large times than for the usual incompressible Navier-Stokes system in the Euclidean setting. Finally, using the structure of the system, we recover the $\mathcal{C}^{\infty}$ smoothness in the other directions by using the analyticity in the vertical variable.

Abstract:This paper studies the regularity and energy conservation problems for the 2D supercritical quasi-geostrophic (SQG) equation. We apply an approach of splitting the dissipation wavenumber to obtain a new regularity condition which is weaker than all the Prodi-Serrin type regularity conditions. Moreover, we prove that any weak solution of the supercritical SQG in $L^2(0,T; B^{1/2}_{2,c(\mathbb N)})$ satisfies energy equality.

Abstract:Well-posedness in time-weighted spaces for quasilinear (and semilinear) parabolic evolution equations $u'=A(u)u+f(u)$ is established in a certain critical case of strict inclusion $\mathrm{dom}(f)\subsetneq \mathrm{dom}(A)$ for the domains of the (superlinear) function $u\mapsto f(u)$ and the quasilinear part $u\mapsto A(u)$. Based upon regularizing effects of parabolic equations, it is proven that the solution map generates a semiflow in a critical intermediate space. The applicability of the abstract results is demonstrated by several examples including a model for atmospheric flows and semilinear and quasilinear evolution equations with scaling invariance for which well-posedness in the critical scaling invariant intermediate spaces is shown.
