Abstract:This paper studies the global and local properties of the trajectories of Gaussian random fields with stationary increments and proves sufficient conditions for Strassen’s functional laws of the iterated logarithm at zero and infinity respectively. The sets of limit points of those Gaussian random fields are obtained. The main results are applied to fractional Riesz–Bessel processes and the sets of limit points of this field are obtained.

Abstract:We study a first passage time of a Lévy process over a positive constant level. In the spectrally negative case we give conditions for absolutely continuity of the distributions of the first passage times. The tail asymptotics of their densities are also clarified, where the asymptotics depend on tail behaviour of the corresponding Lévy measures. We apply our results to the mathematical finance, in particular, the credit default swap pricing.

Abstract:Recent fluctuation identities for $\alpha$-stable Lévy processes have decomposed paths using generalised spherical polar coordinates revealing an underlying Markov Additive Process (MAP) for which a more advanced form of excursion theory can be exploited. Inspired by this approach, we give a different decomposition of the $d$-dimensional isotropic $\alpha$-stable Lévy processes in terms of orthogonal coordinates. Accordingly we are able to develop a number of $n$-tuple laws for first entrance into a half-space. We also numerically construct the law of first entry of the process into a slab of the form $(-1, 1)\times \mathbb{R}^{d-1}$ using a walk-on-half-spaces Monte Carlo approach.

Abstract:In this paper, we consider random dynamical systems formed by concatenating maps acting on the unit interval in an independent and identically distributed (i.i.d.) fashion. Considered as a stationary Markov process, the random dynamical system possesses a unique stationary measure . We consider a class of non-square-integrable observables , mostly of form , where is a non-recurrent point (in particular a non-periodic point) satisfying some other genericity conditions and, more generally, regularly varying observables with index . The two types of maps we concatenate are a class of piecewise expanding maps and a class of intermittent maps possessing an indifferent fixed point at the origin. Under conditions on the dynamics and , we establish Poisson limit laws, convergence of scaled Birkhoff sums to a stable limit law, and functional stable limit laws in both the annealed and quenched case. The scaling constants for the limit laws for almost every quenched realization are the same as those of the annealed case and determined by . This is in contrast to the scalings in quenched central limit theorems where the centering constants depend in a critical way upon the realization and are not the same for almost every realization.

Abstract:For both Levy flight and Levy walk search processes we analyse the full distribution of first-passage and first-hitting (or first-arrival) times. These are, respectively, the times when the particle moves across a point at some given distance from its initial position for the first time, or when it lands at a given point for the first time. For Levy motions with their propensity for long relocation events and thus the possibility to jump across a given point in space without actually hitting it ("leapovers"), these two definitions lead to significantly different results. We study the first-passage and first-hitting time distributions as functions of the Levy stable index, highlighting the different behaviour for the cases when the first absolute moment of the jump length distribution is finite or infinite. In particular we examine the limits of short and long times. Our results will find their application in the mathematical modelling of random search processes as well as computer algorithms.

Abstract:This paper considers the first passage times to constant boundaries and the two-sided exit problem for Lévy process with a characteristic exponent in which at least one of the two jumps having rational Laplace transforms. The joint distribution of the first passage times and undershoot/overshoot are obtained. The processes recover many models that have appeared in the literature such as the compound Poisson risk models, the perturbed compound Poisson risk models, and their dual ones. As applications, we obtain the solutions for popular path-dependent options such as lookback and barrier options in terms of Laplace transforms.

Abstract:Explicit formulae for the densities of the first hitting times to the sphere of Brownian motions with drifts and the asymptotic behavior of the tail probabilities are shown. For this purpose we present an explicit formula for the Laplace transform of the joint distribution of the first hitting time to a sphere and the hitting position, which is different from the known formulae in the literature and is of independent interest.

Abstract:We study a limit behavior of a sequence of Markov processes (or Markov chains) such that their distributions outside of any neighborhood of a "singular" point attract to some probability law. In any neighborhood of this point the behavior may be irregular. As an example of the general result we consider a symmetric random walk with the unit jump that is perturbed in a neighborhood of 0. The invariance principle is obtained under standard scaling of time and space. The limit process turns out to be a skew Brownian motion.

Abstract:For a spectrally positive and strictly stable process with index in (1,2), a series representation is obtained for the joint distribution of the "first passage triple" that consists of the time of first passage and the undershoot and the overshoot at first passage. The result leads to several corollaries, including 1) the joint law of the first passage triple and the pre-passage running supremum, and 2) at a fixed time point, the joint law of the process' value, running supremum, and the time of the running supremum. The representation can be decomposed as a sum of strictly positive functions that allows exact sampling of the first passage triple.

Abstract:Let (X,(X) over cap) be a pair of Borel standard processes on a Lusin space E that are in weak duality with respect to some or-finite measure m that has full support on E. Let F be a finely closed subset of E. In,this paper, we obtain the characterization of a Levy system of the time changed process of X by a positive continuous additive functional (PCAF in abbreviation) of X having support F, under the assumption that every m-semipolar set of X is m-polar for X. The characterization of the Levy system is in terms of Feller measures, which are intrinsic quantities for the part process of X killed upon leaving E \ F. Along the way, various relations between the entrance law, exit system, Feller measures and the distribution of the starting and ending point of excursions of X away from F are studied. We also show that the time changed process of X is a special standard process having a weak dual and that the mu-semipolar set of Y is mu-polar for Y, where mu is the Revuz measure for the PCAF used in the time change.

Abstract:We study the default risk in incomplete information. That means, we model the value of a firm by one Lévy process which is the sum of brownian motion with drift and compound Poisson process. This Lévy process can not be observed completely and we let an other process which representes the available information on the firm. We obtain an equation safisfied by the conditional density of the default time given the available information and closed form expression for the density.

Abstract:We consider the spectrally negative Levy processes and determine the joint laws for the quantities such as the first and last passage times over a fixed level, the overshoots and undershoots at first passage, the minimum, the maximum and the duration of negative values. We apply our results to insurance risk theory to find an explicit expression for the generalized expected discounted penalty function in terms of scale functions. Further, a new expression for the generalized Dickson's formula is provided.

Abstract:In this paper we study the distribution of hitting and return times for observations of dynamical systems. We apply this results to get an exponential law for the distribution of hitting and return times for rapidly mixing random dynamical systems. In particular, it allows us to obtain an exponential law for random expanding maps, random circle maps expanding in average and randomly perturbed dynamical systems.

Abstract:Studying the behaviour of Markov processes at boundary points of the state space has a long history, dating back all the way to William Feller. With different motivations in mind entrance and exit questions have been explored for different discontinuous Markov processes in the past two decades. Proofs often use time-change techniques and rely on problem specific knowledge such branching or scaling properties. In this article we ask how far techniques can be pushed with as little as possible model assumptions. We give sharp conditions on time-changed Lévy processes to allow entrance and regular boundary point at infinity. The main tool we introduce is a generalised scaling property that holds for all time-changed Lévy processes and can be used to extend scaling arguments for self-similar Markov processes.

Abstract:In this paper, we shall introduce the Tanaka formula from viewpoint of the Doob-Meyer decomposition. For symmetric Lévy processes, if the local time exists, Salminen and Yor (2007) obtained the Tanaka formula by using the potential theoretic techniques. On the other hand, for asymmetric stable processes with index $\alpha \in (1,2)$, we studied the Tanaka formula by using Itô's stochastic calculus and the Fourier analysis. In this paper, we study the Tanaka formula for asymmetric Lévy processes via the potential theoretic approach. We give several examples for important processes. Our approach also gives the invariant excessive function with respect to the killed process in the case of asymmetric Lévy processes and it generalized the result in Yano (2013).
