Abstract:When dilute charged particles are confined in a bounded domain, boundary effects are crucial in the global dynamics. We construct a unique global-in-time solution to the Vlasov-Poisson-Boltzmann system in convex domains with the diffuse boundary condition. The construction is based on an $L^{2}$-$L^{\infty}$ framework with a novel \textit{nonlinear-normed energy estimate} of a distribution function in weighted $W^{1,p}$-spaces and a $C^{2,\delta}$-estimate of the self-consistent electric potential. Moreover we prove an exponential convergence of the distribution function toward the global Maxwellian.

Abstract:The Vlasov-Poisson-Boltzmann equation is a classical equation governing the dynamics of charged particles with the electric force being self-imposed. We consider the system in a convex domain with the Cercignani-Lampis boundary condition. We construct a uniqueness local-in-time solution based on an $L^\infty$-estimate and $W^{1,p}$-estimate. In particular, we develop a new iteration scheme along the characteristic with the Cercignani-Lampis boundary for the $L^\infty$-estimate, and an intrinsic decomposition of boundary integral for $W^{1,p}$-estimate.

Abstract:Boundary effects are crucial for dynamics of dilute charged gases governed by the Vlasov-Poisson-Boltzmann (VPB) system. In this paper, we study the existence and regularity of solutions to the VPB system with soft potential in a bounded convex domain with in-flow boundary condition. We establish the existence of strong solutions in the time interval [0,T] for an arbitrary given T>0 when the initial distribution function is near an absolute Maxwellian. Our contribution is based on a new weighted energy estimate in some W^1,p space and L_x^3 L_v^1+ space for soft potential. By using the classical L^2–L^∞ method and bootstrap argument, we extend the local solutions from small time scale to large time scale.

For the domain union of cubes, We will consider the specular-reflection boundary condition and its high-order compatible specular boundary condition. The proof is based on an extra dissipation term generated from an improved semigroup method including the electrostatic field with the help of macroscopic estimates.

Abstract:We prove the local-in-time well-posedness of the relativistic Vlasov-Maxwell-Landau system in a bounded domain $\Omega$ with the specular reflection condition. Our result covers the case when $\Omega$ is a non-convex domain, e.g., solid torus. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first local well-posedness result for a nonlinear kinetic model with a self-consistent magnetic effect in a three-dimensional $\textbf{bounded}$ domain.

We establish the global-in-time existence of weak solutions to the equation with large initial data. Moreover, we show that our solution satisfies the conservation laws of mass, momentum, and energy, and Boltzmann's $H$-theorem.

Nonlinear Hyperbolic-Elliptic Systems in the Bounded Domain

Abstract:In the article we study a hyperbolic-elliptic system of PDE. The system can describe two different physical phenomena: 1st one is the motion of magnetic vortices in the II-type superconductor and 2nd one \ is the collective motion of cells. Motivated by real physics, we consider this system with boundary conditions, describing the flux of vortices (and cells, respectively) through the boundary of the domain. We prove the global solvability of this problem.\ To show the solvability result we use a "viscous" parabolic-elliptic system. Since the viscous solutions do not have a compactness property, we justify the limit transition on a vanishing viscosity, using a kinetic formulation of our problem. As the final result of all considerations we have solved a very important question related with a so-called "boundary layer problem", showing the strong convergence of the viscous solutions to the solution of our hyperbolic-elliptic system.

Global existence and modified scattering for the solutions to the Vlasov-Maxwell system with a small distribution function

Abstract:The purpose of this paper is twofold. In the first part, we provide a new proof of the global existence of the solutions to the Vlasov-Maxwell system with a small initial distribution function. Our approach relies on vector field methods, together with the Glassey-Strauss decomposition of the electromagnetic field, and does not require any support restriction on the initial data or smallness assumption on the Maxwell field. Contrary to previous works on Vlasov systems in dimension $3$, we do not modify the linear commutators and avoid then many technical difficulties. In the second part of this paper, we prove a modified scattering result for these solutions. More precisely, we obtain that the electromagnetic field has a radiation field along future null infinity and approaches, for large time, a smooth solution to the vacuum Maxwell equations. As for the Vlasov-Poisson system, in constrast, the distribution function converges to a new density function along modifications of the characteristics of the free relativistic transport equation. In order to define these logarithmic corrections, we identify an effective asymptotic Lorentz force. By considering logarithmical modifications of the linear commutators, defined in terms of derivatives of the asymptotic Lorentz force, we finally prove higher order regularity results for the limit distribution function.

Existence and stability of weak solutions of the Vlasov--Poisson system in localized Yudovich spaces

Abstract:We consider the Vlasov--Poisson system both in the repulsive (electrostatic potential) and in the attractive (gravitational potential) cases. In our first main theorem, we prove the uniqueness and the quantitative stability of Lagrangian solutions $f=f(t,x,v)$ whose associated spatial density $\rho_f=\rho_f(t,x)$ is potentially unbounded but belongs to suitable uniformly-localized Yudovich spaces. This requirement imposes a condition of slow growth on the function $p \mapsto \|\rho_f(t,\cdot)\|_{L^p}$ uniformly in time. Previous works by Loeper, Miot and Holding--Miot have addressed the cases of bounded spatial density, i.e., $\|\rho_f(t,\cdot)\|_{L^p} \lesssim 1$, and spatial density such that $\|\rho_f(t,\cdot)\|_{L^p} \sim p^{1/\alpha}$ for $\alpha\in[1,+\infty)$. Our approach is Lagrangian and relies on an explicit estimate of the modulus of continuity of the electric field and on a second-order Osgood lemma. It also allows for iterated-logarithmic perturbations of the linear growth condition. In our second main theorem, we complement the aforementioned result by constructing solutions whose spatial density sharply satisfies such iterated-logarithmic growth. Our approach relies on real-variable techniques and extends the strategy developed for the Euler equations by the first and fourth-named authors. It also allows for the treatment of more general equations that share the same structure as the Vlasov--Poisson system. Notably, the uniqueness result and the stability estimates hold for both the classical and the relativistic Vlasov--Poisson systems.

Abstract:We consider classical solutions to the three-dimensional Vlasov-Poisson system with a radiation reaction term. When the smooth initial data have bounded second order velocity-spatial (or velocity) moments and satisfy some decay conditions, by establishing an equality about this moment and deducing strong a priori estimates we get the global existence of classical solutions. The existence, large time behavior, and uniqueness criterion of weak solutions are also obtained.

Abstract:This paper considers the neutron transport equation in bounded domain with a combination of the diffusive boundary condition and the in-flow boundary condition. We firstly study the existence of solution in any fixed time by $L^2-L^{\infty}$ method, which was established to study Boltzmann equation in \cite{[Guo2]}. Based on the uniform estimates of the solution, we also consider the BV-regularity of the solution in non-convex domain. A cut-off function, which aims to exclude all the characteristics emanating from the grazing set $\mathfrak{S}_B$, has been constructed precisely.

Abstract:Diffusive limit of the Vlasov-Poisson-Boltzmann system without angular cutoff in the framework of perturbation around global Maxwellian still remains open. By employing the weighted energy method with a newly introduced weight function $w_l(\alpha,\beta)$ and some novel treatments, we solve this problem for the full range of non-cutoff potentials $\gamma>-3$ and $0<s<1$. Uniform estimate with respect to the Knudsen number $\varepsilon \in (0,1]$ is established globally in time, which eventually leads to the global existence of solutions to the Vlasov-Poisson-Boltzmann system without angular cutoff for the full range of non-cutoff potentials and hydrodynamic limit to the two-fluid incompressible Navier-Stokes-Fourier-Poisson system with Ohm's law. As a byproduct, this approach also extends the global existence results of previous studies on the Vlasov-Poisson-Boltzmann system without angular cutoff to the full range of non-cutoff potentials $\gamma>-3$ and $0<s<1$.

Abstract:In this paper, we investigate an initial-boundary value problem for a chemotaxis-fluid system in a general bounded regular domain Omega subset of R-N (N is an element of{2, 3}), not necessarily being convex. Thanks to the elementary lemma given by Mizoguchi and Souplet [Ann. Inst. H. Poincare - AN 31 (2014), 851-875], we can derive a new type of entropy-energy estimate, which enables us to prove the following: (1) for N = 2, there exists a unique global classical solution to the full chemotaxis-Navier-Stokes system, which converges to a constant steady state (n(infinity), 0, 0) as t -> +infinity, and (2) for N = 3, the existence of a global weak solution to the simplified chemotaxis-Stokes system. Our results generalize the recent work due to Winkler [Commun. Partial Diff. Equ. 37 (2012), 319-351; Arch. Rational Mech. Anal. 211 (2014), 455-487], in which the domain Omega is essentially assumed to be convex.
Nonlinear asymptotic stability of inhomogeneous steady solutions to boundary problems of Vlasov-Poisson equation

Abstract:We consider an ensemble of mass collisionless particles, which interact mutually either by an attraction of Newton's law of gravitation or by an electrostatic repulsion of Coulomb's law, under a background downward gravity in a horizontally-periodic 3D half-space, whose inflow distribution at the boundary is prescribed. We investigate a nonlinear asymptotic stability of its generic steady states in the dynamical kinetic PDE theory of the Vlasov-Poisson equations. We construct Lipschitz continuous space-inhomogeneous steady states and establish exponentially fast asymptotic stability of these steady states with respect to small perturbation in a weighted Sobolev topology. In this proof, we crucially use the Lipschitz continuity in the velocity of the steady states. Moreover, we establish well-posedness and regularity estimates for both steady and dynamic problems.

Abstract:We show that the Nernst-Planck-Euler system, which models ionic electrodiffusion in fluids, has global strong solutions for arbitrarily large data in the two dimensional bounded domains. The assumption on species is either there are two species or the diffusivities and the absolute values of ionic valences are the same if the species are arbitrarily many. In particular, the boundary conditions for the ions are allowed to be inhomogeneous. The proof is based on the energy estimates, integration along the characteristic line and the regularity theory of elliptic and parabolic equations.

Abstract:The aim of this paper is to study the initial-boundary value problems of a Vlasov type system in a convex domain, so called the plasma-charge model, in which there are two kinds of singular sets, one caused by the boundary effect, the other by the heavy point charges. We prove the local existence of classical solutions for the case that the point charges are moving and global existence of classical solutions for the case that the point charges are fixed away from the boundary. The crucial tools are the extended Velocity Lemma for the plasma-charge model and the Pfaffelmoser's method developed by Hwang and Velázquez (2010 Arch. Ration. Mech. Anal. 195 763–96) and Marchioro et al (2011 Arch. Ration. Mech. Anal. 201 1–26). In the Pfaffelmoser's argument, a new idea is that the plasma particles can only be close to one of the singular sets during the time interval [ t − δ , t ] with small length δ, which allows us to obtain the global existence for the fixed point charges case by adapting the techniques established by Hwang et al (2013 Discrete Contin. Dyn. Syst. 33 723–37; 2010 Arch. Ration. Mech. Anal. 195 763–96) and Marchioro et al (2011 Arch. Ration. Mech. Anal. 201 1–26) to the corresponding singular sets respectively.

Abstract:In this work, we mainly concern the limiting behavior of the electromagnetic field of two species Vlasov-Maxwell-Botlzmann system in diffusive limits. As knudsen numbers goes to zero, the electric magnetic and magnetic field may perserve or vanish. We verify rigorously Navier-Stokes, Navier-Stokes-Poisson and Navier-Stokes Maxwell limit of the two species Vlasov-Maxwell-Boltzmann system on the torus in three dimension. The justification is based on the unified and uniform estimates of solutions to the dimensionless Vlasov-Maxwell-Boltzmann. The uniform estimates of solutions are obtained by employing the hypocoercivity of the linear Boltzmann operator and constructing a equation containing damping term of electric field.
