Abstract:Suppose $C$ is a smooth projective curve of genus 1 over a perfect field $F$, and $E$ is its Jacobian. In the case that $C$ has no $F$-rational points, so that $C$ and $E$ are not isomorphic, $C$ is an $E$-torsor with a class $\delta(C)\in H^1(\text{Gal}(\bar F/F), E(\bar F))$. Then $\delta(C)$ determines a class $\beta \in \text{Br}(E)/\text{Br}(F)$ and there is a Fourier-Mukai equivalence of derived categories of (twisted) coherent sheaves $\mathcal D(C) \xrightarrow{\cong} \mathcal D(E, \beta^{-1})$. We generalize this result to higher dimensions; namely, we prove it also for torsors over abelian varieties.

Abstract:It is known that isomorphisms of graph Jacobians induce cyclic bijections on the associated graphs. We characterize when such cyclic bijections can be strengthened to graph isomorphisms, in terms of an easily computed divisor. The result refines tools used in algebraic geometry to examine the fibers of the compactified Torelli map.

Abstract:The Torelli theorem establishes that the Jacobian of a smooth projective curve, together with the polarization provided by the theta divisor, fully characterizes the curve. In the case of nodal curves, there exists a concept known as fine compactified Jacobian. The fine compactified Jacobian of a curve comes with a natural stratification that can be regarded as a poset. Furthermore, this poset is entirely determined by the dual graph of the curve and is referred to as the poset of quasistable divisors on the graph. We present a combinatorial version of the Torelli theorem, which demonstrates that the poset of quasistable divisors of a graph completely determines the biconnected components of the graph (up to contracting separating edges). Moreover, we achieve a natural extension of this theorem to tropical curves.

Abstract:For a smooth projective curve defined over an algebraic number field k , we investigate the finiteness of the set of generalized Jacobians of associated with modules defined over such that a fixed divisor representing a class of finite order in the Jacobian J of provides the torsion class in the generalized Jacobian . Various results on the finiteness and infiniteness of the set of generalized Jacobians with the above property are obtained depending on the geometric conditions on the support of , as well as on the conditions on the field k . These results are applied to the problem of the periodicity of a continued fraction expansion constructed in the field of formal power series for special elements of the field of functions of the hyperelliptic curve .

Abstract:Pour $K$ un corps global (corps de nombres ou corps de fonctions d'une variable sur un corps fini $F$), on dispose de théorèmes de dualité classiques (Tate, Poitou, Nakayama) pour la cohomologie galoisienne à valeurs dans des tores et des modules abéliens finis. Nous établissons de tels théorèmes pour $K$ le corps des fonctions d'une courbe projective et lisse sur le corps $F={\bf C}((t))$ des séries formelles en une variable sur le corps des complexes. Cela permet de contrôler le défaut du principe de Hasse et l'approximation faible pour les espaces homogènes sous un tore. Il y a ici des différences avec le cas classique ($K$ corps global), et aussi avec le cas récemment étudié où $K$ est un corps de fonctions d'une variable sur un corps $p$-adique. Par exemple, la $K$-rationalité d'un tore n'implique pas ici la validité du principe de Hasse pour ses espaces principaux homogènes. ---------------- Over a global field $K$ (number field, or function field of a curve over a finite field $F$), arithmetic duality theorems for the Galois cohomology of tori and finite Galois modules have long been known. More recent work investigates the case where $K$ is the function fields of of a curve over a $p$-adic field. For $K$ the function field of a curve over the formal series field $F={\bf C}((t))$, we establish analogous duality theorems. We thus control the obstruction to the local-global principle and to weak approximation for homogeneous spaces of tori. There are differences with the afore described cases. For example the Hasse principle need not hold for principal homogeneous spaces of a $K$-rational torus.

Abstract:The main purpose of this paper is to give an overview over the theory of abelian varieties, with main focus on Jacobian varieties of curves reaching from well-known results till to latest developments and their usage in cryptography. In the first part we provide the necessary mathematical background on abelian varieties, their torsion points, Honda-Tate theory, Galois representations, with emphasis on Jacobian varieties and hyperelliptic Jacobians. In the second part we focus on applications of abelian varieties on cryptography and treating separately, elliptic curve cryptography, genus 2 and 3 cryptography, including Diffie-Hellman Key Exchange, index calculus in Picard groups, isogenies of Jacobians via correspondences and applications to discrete logarithms. Several open problems and new directions are suggested.

Zeta-functions of Curves over Finite Fields

Abstract:Curves over finite fields are of great importance in cryptography and coding theory. Through studying their zeta-functions, we would be able to find out vital arithmetic and geometric information about them and their Jacobians, including the number of rational points on this kind of curves. In this paper, I investigate if it is possible to construct a curve over finite fields of a given genus $g$ whose zeta-function is given as a product of zeta-functions of $g$ elliptic curves, and find out alternative methods if it is not possible. Basically, I look for conditions which those $g$ elliptic curves should satisfy such that their product (of their Jacobians) is isogenous to the Jacobian of a curve of a given genus $g$. Then from this isogenous relationship I can determine the characteristic polynomial of the Frobenius endomorphism of the Jacobian of the new curve and by this characteristic polynomial I can thus determine the zeta-function of this new curve. By using the zeta-functions of curves in the form as generating functions, the number of rational points on curves can even be found out, which may lead to further researches relating to some applications in cryptography, coding theory and even information theory.

Abstract:Let $C$ and $D$ be smooth, proper and geometrically integral curves over a finite field $F$. Any morphism from $D$ to $C$ induces a morphism of their étale fundamental groups. The anabelian philosophy proposed by Grothendieck suggests that, when $C$ has genus at least $2$, all open homomorphisms between the étale fundamental groups should arise in this way from a nonconstant morphism of curves. We relate this expectation to the arithmetic of the curve $C_K$ over the global function field $K = F(D)$. Specifically, we show that there is a bijection between the set of conjugacy classes of well-behaved morphism of fundamental groups and locally constant adelic points of $C_K$ that survive étale descent. We use this to provide further evidence for the anabelian conjecture by relating it to another recent conjecture by Sutherland and the second author.

Convolution monodromy groups and the Shafarevich conjecture for hypersurfaces in tori

Abstract:The Shafarevich conjecture for a class of varieties over a number field posits the finitude of those with good reduction outside a finite set of primes. In the case of hypersurfaces in the torus $\mathbb{G}_m^n$, a natural class to consider are those with a fixed Newton polyhedron that are nondegenerate with respect to it. Using an approach similar to that of Lawrence-Sawin for abelian varieties (<a class="link-https" data-arxiv-id="2004.09046" href="https://arxiv.org/abs/2004.09046">arXiv:2004.09046</a>), we prove the Shafarevich conjecture for certain classes of Newton polyhedra. In the course of our proof we construct a fiber functor for the Tannakian category of perverse sheaves on the torus in positive characteristic and compute the weights of the Frobenius on it, which leads to the big monodromy results which are key to this method.

Abstract:In this work, we refine a formula for the Tjurina number of a reducible algebroid plane curve defined over $\mathbb C$ obtained in the more general case of complete intersection curves in [1]. As a byproduct, we answer the affirmative to a conjecture proposed by A. Dimca in [7]. Our results are obtained by establishing more manageable formulas to compute the colengths of fractional ideals of the local ring associated with the algebroid (not necessarily a complete intersection) curve with several branches. We then apply these results to the Jacobian ideal of a plane curve over $\mathbb C$ to get a new formula for its Tjurina number and a proof of Dimca's conjecture. We end the paper by establishing a connection between the module of Kähler differentials on the curve modulo its torsion, seen as a fractional ideal, and its Jacobian ideal, explaining the relation between the present approach and that of [1].

We prove some kinds of relative Weil bounds, derived from Schwarz inequality for some "relative parts" of the diagonal and of the graph of the Frobenius on some euclidean sub-spaces of the numerical space of the squared curve endowed with the opposite of the intersection product.

Finite Fields and Their Applications

Abstract:We provide a theoretical study of Algebraic Geometry codes constructed from abelian surfaces defined over finite fields. We give a general bound on their minimum distance and we investigate how this estimation can be sharpened under the assumption that the abelian surface does not contain low genus curves. This approach naturally leads us to consider Weil restrictions of elliptic curves and abelian surfaces which do not admit a principal polarization.

Abstract:Determining the limiting behaviour of the Jacobian as the underlying curve degenerates has been the subject of much interest. For nodal singularities, there are beautiful constructions of Caporaso as well as Pandharipande of compactified universal Jacobians over the moduli space of stable curves. Alexeev later obtained a canonical such compactification by extending the Torelli map out of the Deligne-Mumford compactification of $\mathcal{M}_{g,n}$. In contrast, Alexeev and Brunyate proved that the Torelli map does not extend over the cuspidal locus in Schubert's alternative compactification of pseudostable curves.

Abstract:We show that every smooth projective curve over a finite field k admits a finite tame morphism to the projective line over k. Furthermore, we construct a curve with no such map when k is an infinite perfect field of characteristic two. Our work leads to a refinement of the tame Belyi theorem in positive characteristic, building on results of Sa\"idi, Sugiyama-Yasuda, and Anbar-Tutdere.

Abstract:Reviews in Mathematical Physics, Ahead of Print. The prescribed rational functions constitute a subset of rational functions satisfying certain symmetry and analyticity conditions. Over a smooth complex curve [math], we construct explicitly a bundle [math] with values in the prescribed rational functions. An intrinsic coordinate-independent formulation (the main result of the paper, Proposition 1) for such bundles is given. The construction presented in this paper is useful for studies of the canonical cosimplicial cohomology of infinite-dimensional Lie algebras on smooth manifolds, as well as for the purposes of conformal field theory and the theory of foliations.

Abstract:Let X⊂Pn+1 be a smooth Fano hypersurface of dimension n and degree d . The derived category of coherent sheaves on X contains an interesting subcategory called the Kuznetsov component AX . We show that this subcategory, together with a certain autoequivalence called the rotation functor, determines X uniquely if d>3 or if d=3 and n>3 . This generalizes a result by Huybrechts and Rennemo, who proved the same statement under the additional assumption that d divides n+2 .

Abstract:Given any irreducible smooth complex projective curve $X$, of genus at least $2$, consider the moduli stack of vector bundles on $X$ of fixed rank and determinant. It is proved that the isomorphism class of the stack uniquely determines the isomorphism class of the curve $X$ and the rank of the vector bundles. The case of trivial determinant, rank $2$ and genus $2$ is specially interesting: the curve can be recovered from the moduli stack, but not from the moduli space (since this moduli space is $\mathbb{P}^3$ thus independently of the curve). We also prove a Torelli theorem for moduli stacks of principal $G$-bundles on a curve of genus at least $3$, where $G$ is any non-abelian reductive group.

Abstract:In this paper the fields of multiply periodic, or Kleinian $\wp$-functions are exposed. Such a field arises on the Jacobian variety of an algebraic curve, and provides natural algebraic models of the Jacobian and Kummer varieties, possesses the addition law, and accommodates dynamical equations with solutions. All this will be explained in detail for plane algebraic curves in their canonical forms. Example of hyperelliptic and non-hyperelliptic curves are presented.
