Abstract:We use spectral theory to produce embeddings of distributions in the algebras of generalized functions on a closed Riemannian manifold. These embeddings are invariant under isometries and preserve the singularity structure of the distributions.

Abstract:We introduce a special family of distributional alpha-densities and give a transversality criterion stating when their product is defined, closely related to Hormander's criterion for general distributions. Moreover, we show that for the subspace of distributional half-densities in this family the distribution product naturally yields a pairing that extends the usual one on smooth half-densities.

Abstract:We begin by characterizing metabelian distributions in terms of principal bundle structures. Then, we prove that in sub-Riemannian manifolds with metabelian distributions of rank $r$, the projection of strictly singular trajectories to some $r$-dimensional manifold must remain within an analytic variety. As a consequence, for rank-2 metabelian distributions, geodesics are of class $C^1$.

Abstract:The algebra of densities $\Den(M)$ is a commutative algebra canonically associated with a given manifold or supermanifold $M$. We introduced this algebra earlier in connection with our studies of Batalin--Vilkovisky geometry. The algebra $\Den(M)$ is graded by real numbers and possesses a natural invariant scalar product. This leads to important geometric consequences and applications to geometric constructions on the original manifold. In particular, there is a classification theorem for derivations of the algebra $\Den(M)$. It allows a natural definition of bracket operations on vector densities of various weights on a (super)manifold $M$, similar to how the classical Frölicher--Nijenhuis theorem on derivations of the algebra of differential forms leads to the Nijenhuis bracket. It is possible to extend this classification from "vector fields" (derivations) on $\Den(M)$ to "multivector fields". This leads to the striking result that an arbitrary even Poisson structure on $M$ possesses a canonical lifting to the algebra of densities. This is in sharp contrast with the previously studied case of an odd Poisson structure, where extra data are required for such a lifting.

Spherical Distributions on the De Sitter Space and their Spectral Singularities

Abstract:A spherical distribution is an eigendistribution of the Laplace-Beltrami operator with certain invariance on the de Sitter space. Let G'=O(1,n;R) be the Lorentz group and H' = O(1,n-1;R) be its subgroup. The authors Olafsson and Sitiraju have constructed the spherical distributions, which are $H'$-invariant, as boundary values of some sesquiholomorphic kernels. In this survey article we will explore the connections of these kernels with reflection positivity and representations of the group G = SO(1,n;R)_e, which is the connected component of the Lorentz group. We will also discuss the singularities of spherical distributions in terms of their wavefront set.

Abstract:This paper builds on the theory of nonlinear generalized functions begun in Nigsch & Vickers (Nigsch, Vickers 2021 Proc. R. Soc. A 20200640 ( doi:10.1098/rspa.2020.0640 )) and extends this to a diffeomorphism-invariant nonlinear theory of generalized tensor fields with the sheaf property. The generalized Lie derivative is introduced and shown to commute with the embedding of distributional tensor fields and the generalized covariant derivative commutes with the embedding at the level of association. The concept of a generalized metric is introduced and used to develop a non-smooth theory of differential geometry. It is shown that the embedding of a continuous metric results in a generalized metric with well-defined connection and curvature and that for C 2 metrics the embedding preserves the curvature at the level of association. Finally, we consider an example of a conical metric outside the Geroch–Traschen class and show that the curvature is associated to a delta function.
PDE characterisation of geometric distribution functions and quantiles

Abstract:We show that in any Euclidean space, an arbitrary probability measure can be reconstructed explicitly by its geometric (or spatial) distribution function. The reconstruction takes the form of a (potentially fractional) linear PDE, where the differential operator is given in closed form. This result implies that, contrary to a common belief in the statistical depth community, geometric cdf's in principle provide exact control over the probability content of all depth regions. We present a comprehensive study of the regularity of the geometric cdf, and show that a continuous density in general does not give rise to a geometric cdf with enough regularity to reconstruct the density pointwise. Surprisingly, we prove that the reconstruction displays different behaviours in odd and even dimension: it is local in odd dimension and completely nonlocal in even dimension. We investigate this issue and provide a partial counterpart for even dimensions, and establish a general representation formula of the geometric cdf of spherically symmetric probability laws in odd dimensions. We provide explicit examples of the reconstruction of a density from its geometric cdf in dimension 2 and 3.

Non-integrable distributions with simple infinite-dimensional Lie (super)algebras of symmetries

Abstract:Under usual locality assumptions, we classify all non-integrable distributions with simple infinite-dimensional Lie superalgebra of symmetries over $\mathbb{C}$: we single out 15 series (containing 2 analogs of contact series and one family of deformations of their divergence-free subalgebras), and 7 exceptional Lie superalgebras. Over algebraically closed fields~$\mathbb{K}$ of characteristic $p>0$, we classify the W-gradings (corresponding to a maximal subalgebra of finite codimension) of the known simple vectorial Lie (super)algebras with unconstrained shearing vector of heights of the indeterminates, distinguish W-gradings of (super)algebras preserving non-integrable distributions. For $p>3$, we get analogs of the result over $\mathbb{C}$. For $p=3$, of all possible W-gradings (12 of Skryabin algebras, 3 of superized Melikyan algebras, and 4 of Bouarroudj superalgebras) most are new, together with the corresponding distributions. For $p=2$, we also get several new examples of distributions and their Lie (super)algebras of symmetries.

Abstract:We introduce a family of fidelities based on the Riemannian geometry of the Bures-Wasserstein manifold we call the generalized fidelity. We show that this family of fidelities generalizes standard quantum fidelities such as Uhlamnn-, Holevo-, and Matsumoto fidelity and demonstrate that it satisfies analogous celebrated properties. The generalized fidelity naturally arises from a generalized Bures distance, the natural distance obtained from the linearization of the Bures-Wasserstein manifold. We prove various invariance and covariance properties of generalized fidelity as the point of linearization moves along geodesic-related paths. We also provide a Block-matrix characterization and prove an Uhlmann-like theorem, as well as provide further extensions to the multivariate setting and quantum Renyi divergences, generalizing Petz-, Sandwich-, Reverse sandwich-, and Geometric Renyi divergences of order $\alpha$.

Abstract:Let $\Omega\subset \mathbb{R}^n$ be non-empty, open and proper. Consider $Wb(\Omega)$, the space of finite Borel measures on $\Omega$ equipped with the partial transportation metric introduced by Figalli and Gigli that allows the creation and destruction of mass on $\partial \Omega$. Equivalently, we show that $Wb(\Omega)$ is isometric to a subset of all Borel measures with the ordinary Wasserstein distance, on the one point completion of $\Omega$ equipped with the shortcut metric \[\delta(x,y)= \min\{\|x-y\|, \operatorname{dist}(x,\partial \Omega)+\operatorname{dist}(y,\partial\Omega)\}.\] In this article we construct bi-Lipschitz embeddings of the set of unordered $m$-tuples in $Wb(\Omega)$ into Hilbert space. This generalises Almgren's bi-Lipschitz embedding theorem to the setting of optimal partial transport.

Abstract:We provide the geometric construction of a series of generalized Schur algebras of any type via Borel-Moore homologies and equivariant K-groups of generalized Steinberg varieties. As applications, we obtain a Schur algebra analogue of the local geometric Langlands correspondence of any finite type, provide an equivariant K-theoretic realization of quasi-split $\imath$quantum groups of affine type AIII, and establish a geometric Howe duality for affine ($\imath$-)quantum groups.

Abstract:The embedding theorem of Roelcke and Dierolf for the completions of four standard uniform structures on topological groups and their quotients holds more generally for spaces of uniform measures. The natural mappings between the four spaces of uniform measures on a topological group are injective and their restrictions to positive cones are topological embeddings. The same holds for spaces of uniform measures on the quotient of a topological group by a neutral subgroup.

Abstract:We solve the equivalence problem for rank 3 completely nonholonomic vector distributions with 6-dimensional square on a smooth manifold of arbitrary dimension n under very mild genericity conditions. The main idea is to consider the projectivization of the annihilator of a given 3-dimensional distribution. It is naturally foliated by characteristic curves, which are also called the abnormal extremals of the distribution. The dynamics of vertical fibers along characteristic curves defines certain curves of flags of isotropic and coisotropic subspaces in a linear symplectic space. The problem of equivalence of distributions can be essentially reduced to the differential geometry of such curves. The class of all 3-distributions under consideration is split into a finite number of subclasses according to the Young diagram of their flags. The local geometry of distributions can be recovered from the properties of the symmetry group of so-called flat curves of flags associated with this Young diagram. In each subclass we describe the flat distribution and construct a canonical frame for any other distribution. It turns out that for n>6 in the most nontrivial case the symmetry algebra of the flat distribution can be described in terms of rational normal curves (their secants and tangential developables) in projective spaces and its dimension grows exponentially with respect to n.

Advances in Applied Clifford Algebras

Abstract:Using the syzygy method, established in our earlier paper (Krasnov and Tkachev, Honor of Wolfgang SprßigTrends Math, Birkhäuser/Springer Basel AG, Basel, 2018), we characterize the combinatorial stratification of the variety of two-dimensional real generic algebras. We show that there exist exactly three different homotopic types of such algebras and relate this result to potential applications and known facts from qualitative theory of quadratic ODEs. The genericity condition is crucial. For example, the idempotent geometry in Clifford algebras or Jordan algebras of Clifford type is very different: such algebras always contain nontrivial submanifolds of idempotents.

Abstract:We study vector spaces associated to a family of generalized Euler integrals. Their dimension is given by the Euler characteristic of a very affine variety. Motivated by Feynman integrals from particle physics, this has been investigated using tools from homological algebra and the theory of $D$-modules. We present an overview and uncover new relations between these approaches. We also provide new algorithmic tools.
