Abstract:We describe recent work of Kim in <a class="link-https" data-arxiv-id="1210.5190" href="https://arxiv.org/abs/1210.5190">arXiv:1210.5190</a> to show that operator convex functions associated with quasi-entropies can be used to prove a large class of new matrix inequalities in the tri-partite and bi-partite setting by taking a judiciously chosen partial trace over all but one of the spaces. We give some additional examples in both settings. Furthermore, we observe that the equality conditions for all the new inequalities are essentially the same as those for strong subadditivity.

Abstract:We consider the quasilinear degenerate elliptic equation with rough and singular coefficients of the form div( A(x,u,∇ u)) = B(x,u,∇ u) in an open set Ω⊂ℝ^n, where the quadratic form associated with the principle part of this equation allows vanishing and the coefficients in structural conditions on A(x,u,∇ u) and B(x,u,∇ u) require no smoothness but belong to some Stummel–Kato class. We prove a Fefferman–Phong type inequality related to the Stummel–Kato class and then an embedding inequality. Based on these inequalities, the local boundedness and Harnack’s inequality of the weak solutions are derived. As applications, the continuity and Hölder continuity for the nonnegative weak solutions are given.

Abstract:In this note, we give a counterexample to show that Hadamard’s inequality does not hold on a polyhedron in multi-dimensional Euclidean space. Then we give a sufficient condition on the polyhedron for Hadamard’s inequality to hold. Finally, we provide an approach to create a large class of polyhedra on which Hadamard’s inequality is true.

Abstract:We provide here a counter-example to the second inequality of Corollary (19.10) in the Clay Institute Monograph by <a class="link-external link-http" href="http://J.Morgan" rel="external noopener nofollow">this http URL</a> and <a class="link-external link-http" href="http://G.Tian" rel="external noopener nofollow">this http URL</a> entitled "Ricci Flow and the Poincare Conjecture". We had announced the existence of this counter-example in our paper "Five Gaps in Mathematics", Advanced Non-linear Studies, vol 15, No. 2, (2015). We make the details available here. <a class="link-external link-http" href="http://J.Morgan" rel="external noopener nofollow">this http URL</a> and <a class="link-external link-http" href="http://G.Tian" rel="external noopener nofollow">this http URL</a> have recently (arXiv/math/DG:<a class="link-https" data-arxiv-id="1512.00699" href="https://arxiv.org/abs/1512.00699">1512.00699</a>, (2015)) published a correction to their arguments in the monograph. Abstract:In this paper, we propose a new subclass of H -matrices named Quasi- (for shortly, ) matrices, present some properties of matrices, and discuss the relationship among matrices and other subclasses of H -matrices. Moreover, the infinity norm bounds for the inverse of matrices and error bounds for the linear complementarity problems of matrices are given, which improve some existing results. Numerical examples are given to illustrate the validity of new results.

Abstract:In this paper, a class of hemivariational inequality problems are introduced and studied on Hadamard manifolds. Using the properties of Clarke's generalized directional derivative and Fan-KKM lemma, an existence theorem of solution in connection with the hemivariational inequality problem is obtained when the constraint set is bounded. By employing some coercivity conditions and the properties of Clarke's generalized directional derivative, an existence result and the boundedness of the set of solutions for the underlying problem are investigated when the constraint set is unbounded. Moreover, a sufficient and necessary condition for ensuring the nonemptiness of the set of solutions concerned with the hemivariational inequality problem is also given.

Abstract:In this paper, for the solutions of two elliptic equations we find the auxiliary curvature functions which attain respective minimum on the boundary. These results are the generalization of the classical ones in Makar-Limanov [17] for the torsion equation and Acker et al. [1] for the first eigenfunction of the Laplacian in convex domains of dimension 2. Then we get the new proof of the specific convexity of the solutions of the above two elliptic equations. As a consequence, for the elliptic equation upsilon Delta upsilon = -(1 + vertical bar del upsilon vertical bar(2)) in a smooth, bounded and strictly convex domain Omega in R-n with homogeneous Dirichlet boundary value condition, we also get a sharply lower bound estimate of the Gaussian curvature for the solution surface by the curvature of the boundary of the domain.
