Abstract:In this paper, we give a family of rational maps whose Julia sets are Cantor circles and show that every rational map whose Julia set is a Cantor set of circles must be topologically conjugate to one map in this family on their corresponding Julia sets. In particular, we give the specific expressions of some rational maps whose Julia sets are Cantor circles, but they are not topologically conjugate to any McMullen maps on their Julia sets. Moreover, some non-hyperbolic rational maps whose Julia sets are Cantor circles are also constructed.

Abstract:In this paper, we show that a map $\delta$ over a triangular ring $\mathcal{T}$ satisfying $\delta(ab+ba)=\delta(a)b+a \tau(b)+\delta(b)a+b\tau(a)$, for all $a,b\in \mathcal{T}$ and for some maps $\tau$ over $\mathcal{T}$ satisfying $\tau(ab+ba)=\tau(a)b+a \tau(b)+\tau(b)a+b\tau(a)$, is additive. Also, it is shown that a map $T$ on $\mathcal{T}$ satisfying $T(ab)=T(a)b=aT(b)$, for all $a,b\in \mathcal{T}$, is additive. Further, we establish that if a map $D$ over $\mathcal{T}$ satisfies $(m+n)D(ab)=2mD(a)b+2naD(b)$, for all $a,b\in \mathcal{T}$ and integers $m,n\geq 1$, then $D$ is additive.

Abstract:Let x and y be two elements in an algebra.If x and y satisfy the algebraic relation xy=ξyx for some scalarξ,then x and y are commutative up to a factorξ.This paper first gives a characterization of unital additive surjections between standard operator algebras on real or complex Banach spaces which preserve commutativity up to a factor in both directions.A structure theorem for bounded linear surjections preserving commutativity up to a factor between C*-algebras is also obtained.

Abstract:In this paper, we study additive maps f:A→A on an alternative Cayley-Dickson algebra A satisfying the product preserving property: f(x)f(y)=m whenever xy = k , where k and m are constant elements of A . We prove that f may be written as a multiple of a Jordan homomorphism. Unlike in the associative case, Jordan homomorphisms of strictly alternative division rings need not be homomorphisms or anti-homomorphisms, but we provide necessary and sufficient conditions for this to occur. We then extend these ideas to split alternative Cayley-Dickson algebras of characteristic not 2 and present some open questions when k or m is noninvertible. The final section handles the problem k=m=0 and generalizes to biadditive maps that preserve the zero product.

Abstract:Let A and B be standard operator algebras on infinite dimensional complex Banach spaces X and Y, respectively, and let Φ be an additive surjection from A onto B. We prove that if Φ is unital and preserves any one of (left, right) invertibility, (left, right) zero divisors, (left, right) topological divisors of zero, quasi-affinity, injectivity, surjectivity, range density, lower-boundedness and left (right) maximal ideals in both directions, then it has one of the following forms: isomorphism, conjugate isomorphism, anti-isomorphism and conjugate anti-isomorphism. We also show that Φ preserves zero products in both directions if and only if Φ is either an isomorphism or a conjugate isomorphism.

Abstract:In this paper, we generalize ordinary derivation and Jordan derivation of a ring to the concepts of P-derivation and P-Jordan derivation of a ring respectively. Some properties, e.g. the composition of P-derivations and P-Jordan derivations, are given. Moreover, it proved that if R/P(R) is 2-torsion free for a ring R and its prime radical P(R), P-Jordan derivations of R are P-derivations. More mainly, some conclusions on the commutativity of R/I and R/P(R) are obtained via P-derivations and P-Jordan derivations, for a prime ideal I of R.

Abstract:This paper presents a study on Jordan maps over matrix rings with some functional equations related to additive maps on these rings. We first show that every Jordan left (right) centralizer over a matrix ring is a left (right) centralizer. Moreover, every two-sided centralizer over the matrix ring is of a particular form. Further, we prove that any additive map satisfying functional equations over matrix rings becomes a two-sided centralizer. Finally, we conclude our work with some results on the Jordan left $\star$- centralizer over matrix rings and establish some results on functional equations that arise for the $\star$-centralizer.
Uniqueness of addition in Lie algebras revisited

Abstract:We obtain new and improve old results on uniqueness of addition in Lie rings and Lie algebras. A Lie ring $\mathfrak{R}$ is called a unique addition ring, or a UA-Lie ring, if any commutator-preserving bijection from $\mathfrak{R}$ to an arbitrary Lie ring is additive. We describe wide classes of Lie rings that are not UA-Lie ring. In the other direction, it is known that if a finite-dimensional Lie algebra $\mathfrak{g}$ contains two elements whose centralizers have trivial intersection, then $\mathfrak{g}$ is a UA-Lie ring. We use this result to characterize UA-Lie rings among seaweed Lie algebras. The paper includes many open problems and questions.

Abstract:Let $\mathcal{O}_{K}$ be the ring of integers of an imaginary quadratic field $K$. Recently, Ji and Xie proved that every rational map $f \colon \widehat{\mathbb{C}} \rightarrow \widehat{\mathbb{C}}$ of degree $d \geq 2$ whose multipliers all lie in $\mathcal{O}_{K}$ is a power map, a Chebyshev map or a Lattès map. Their proof relies on a result from non-Archimedean dynamics obtained by Rivera-Letelier. In the present note, we show that one can avoid using this result by considering a differential equation instead. Our proof of Ji and Xie's result also applies to the case of entire maps. Thus, we also show that every nonaffine entire map $f \colon \mathbb{C} \rightarrow \mathbb{C}$ whose multipliers all lie in $\mathcal{O}_{K}$ is a power map or a Chebyshev map.

Associativity and Commutativity of Partially Ordered Rings

Abstract:Consider a commutative monoid $(M,+,0)$ and a biadditive binary operation $\mu \colon M \times M \to M$. We will show that under some additional general assumptions, the operation $\mu$ is automatically both associative and commutative. The main additional assumption is localizability of $\mu$, which essentially means that a certain canonical order on $M$ is compatible with adjoining some multiplicative inverses of elements of $M$. As an application we show that a division ring $\mathbb F$ is commutative provided that for all $a \in \mathbb F$ there exists a natural number $k$ such that $a-k$ is not a sum of products of squares. This generalizes the classical theorem that every archimedean ordered division ring is commutative to a more general class of formally real division rings that do not necessarily allow for an archimedean (total) order. Similar results about automatic associativity and commutativity are well-known for special types of partially ordered extended rings (``extended'' in the sense that neither associativity nor commutativity of the multiplication is required by definition), namely in the uniformly bounded and the lattice-ordered cases, i.e.~for (extended) $f$-rings. In these cases the commutative monoid in question is the positive cone of the partially ordered extended ring. We also discuss how these classical results can be obtained from our main theorem.

Rings where a non-nilpotent sum of units is a unit

Abstract:A ring is *unit-additive* if a sum of units is always either a unit or nilpotent. For example, $k[X]$ and $k[X]/(X^2)$ are unit-additive, but $\mathbb Z$ is not. We prove a wide-ranging theorem about semigroup rings, showing among other things that an affine semigroup ring $A[M]$ is unit-additive if and only if $A$ is unit-additive and $M$ has no nontrivial invertible elements. In the algebraic variety setting, we get a characterization of unit additivity in terms of the nonexistence of nonconstant maps to the punctured affine line, which can be seen in terms of extensions of the Fundamental Theorem of Algebra. Specializing to elliptic curves, we show that the affine coordinate ring of an elliptic curve is always unit-additive. The concept of unit additivity leads to the related concept of unit-additivity dimension -- i.e. how far is an integral domain from being unit-additive? It turns out that rings of unit-additivity dimension 1 are of some interest, as they include the rings of integers of number fields, all power series rings, and most local rings. We construct rings of all unit-additivity dimensions and show that in the affine setting, unit-additivity dimension is bounded above by Krull dimension. We also construct the *unit-additive closure* of an integral domain $D$, being the smallest subring of the fraction field of $D$ that is unit-additive, as a localization at a certain multiplicative set in $D$.

Abstract:Let $ \mathfrak{S} $ be a prime ring with automorphisms $ \alpha, \beta $. A bi-additive map $ \mathfrak{D} $ is called an ($ \alpha, \beta $) Jordan bi-derivation if $ \mathfrak{D}(k^2, s) = \mathfrak{D}(k, s)\alpha(k) + \beta(k) \mathfrak{D}(k, s) $. In this paper, we find conditions under which a symmetric ($ \alpha, \beta $) Jordan bi-derivation becomes a symmetric ($ \alpha, \beta $) bi-derivation. We also characterize the symmetric $ (\alpha, \beta) $ Jordan bi-derivations.

Abstract:A map $f\colon R\to S$ between (associative, unital, but not necessarily commutative) rings is a\emph{brachymorphism} if $f(1+x)=1+f(x)$ and $f(xy)=f(x)f(y)$ whenever $x,y\in R$. We tackle the problem whether every brachymorphism is additive (i.e., $f(x+y)=f(x)+f(y)$), showing that in many contexts, including the following, the answer is positive: $R$ is finite (or, more generally, $R$ is left or right Artinian); $R$ is any ring of $2\times2$ matrices over a commutative ring; $R$ is Engelian; every element of $R$ is a sum of $\pi$-regular and central elements (this applies to $\pi$-regular rings, Banach algebras, and power series rings); $R$ is the full matrix ring of order greater than $1$ over any ring; $R$ is the monoid ring $K[M]$ for a commutative ring $K$ and a $\pi$-regular monoid $M$; $R$ is the Weyl algebra $A_1(K)$ over a commutative ring $K$ with positive characteristic; $f$ is the power function $x\mapsto x^n$ over any ring; $f$ is the determinant function over any ring $R$ of $n\times n$ matrices, with $n\geq3$, over a commutative ring, such that if $n>3$ then $R$ contains $n$ scalar matrices with non zero divisor differences.
