Abstract:In this paper, we construct the so-called q-Schur modules as left principle ideals of cyclotomic q-Schur algebras, and prove that they are isomorphic to those cell modules defined in [3] and [10] in any level r. After that, mainly, we prove that these q-Schur modules are free and construct their basis. This result gives the new versions of some several known results such as standard basis and the branching theorem. With the help of this realizations and the new basis, we give a new proof of the Branch rule of Weyl modules which was first discovered by Wada in [20].
Primitive Complete Normal Bases for Regular Extensions: Exceptional Cyclotomic Modules

Abstract:A primitive completely normal element for an extension $\mathbb{F}_{q^n}/\mathbb{F}_{q}$ of Galois fields is a generator of the multiplicative group of $\mathbb{F}_{q^n}$, which simultaneously is normal over every intermediate field of that extension. We are going to prove that such a generator exists when $\mathbb{F}_{q^n}/\mathbb{F}_{q}$ is an 'exceptional' regular extension. In combination with [6] our investigations altogether settle the existence of primitive completely normal bases for any regular extension. An important feature of the class of regular extensions is that they comprise every extension of prime power degree.

Abstract:We extend the Brauer-Siegel theorem to new families of number fields, both in the classical setting of asymptotically bad families and in the more general framework due to Tsfasman and Vlăduţ of asymptotically exact families. We introduce a notion of Galois complexity for extensions of number fields, and show that the generalized Brauer-Siegel theorem, as conjectured by Tsfasman and Vlăduţ, holds for families in which the complexity does not grow too fast. This allows to unify and extend all previously known results. The crucial step in our work is the proof of a new version -- stated in terms of our Galois complexity -- of a fundamental principle due to Stark descending exceptional zeroes of zeta functions down to quadratic number fields. Among the hitherto unknown cases we are able to treat are the families of number fields contained in the solvable Galois closure of a given number field.

Abstract:We shall describe a simple generalization of commutative rings. The category GR of such "rings", contains the ordinary commutative rings (fully faithfully), but also the "integers" and "residue field" at a real or complex place of a field ; the "field with one element" (the initial object of GR ); the "arithmetical surface" ( the sum in the category GR of the integers with them self: Z(x)Z ) . We shall show that this geometry "see" the real and complex places of a number field (there is an Ostrowski theorem that the valuation sub-GR of a number field correspond to the finite and infinite primes; there is a compactification of the spectrum of the integers ). One can develop algebraic geometry using GR following Grothendieck paradigm . Quillen's homotopical algebra replaces homological algebra . There is an analogue of Quillen's cotangent bundle - in particular there is a theory of non-additive derivations, with modules of Kahler differentials which satisfy all the usual exact sequences - we compute explicitly the differentials of the integers Z over the initial object F1 . Finally we associate with any topological compact valuation GR a meromorphic function - its "zeta" : for the p-adic integers we get the p-local factor of zeta, for the "real integers" we get the gamma factor.

Two improvements in Birch's theorem on forms

Abstract:Let $K$ be a Birch field, that is, a field for which every diagonal form of odd degree in sufficiently many variables admits a non-zero solution; for example, $K$ could be the field of rational numbers. Let $f_1, \ldots, f_r$ be homogeneous forms of odd degree over $K$ in $n$ variables, and let $Z$ be the variety they cut out. Birch proved if $n$ is sufficiently large then $Z(K)$ contains a non-zero point. We prove two results which show that $Z(K)$ is actually quite large. First, the Zariski closure of $Z(K)$ has bounded codimension in $\mathbf{A}^n$. And second, if the $f_i$'s have sufficiently high strength then $Z(K)$ is in fact Zariski dense in $Z$. The proofs use recent results on strength, and our methods build on recent work of Bik, Draisma, and Snowden, which established similar improvements to Brauer's theorem on forms.

Abstract:This is an introduction to the theory of normal bases of finite fields. The first few chapters cover a wide range of topics on the theory of normal bases of finite fields. Most standard definitions and results, including proofs are given. The last few chapters cover the theory of guassian and period normal bases of finite fields of low degrees. The last chapter presents the asymptotic proofs of the existence of primitive polynomials of degree n with approximately n/2 arbitrary coefficients, and primitive normal polynomials of arbitrary traces.

Brauer-Manin obstructions for homogeneous spaces of commutative affine algebraic groups over global fields

Abstract:Questions related to Brauer-Manin obstructions to the Hasse principle and weak approximation for homogeneous spaces of tori over a number field are well-studied, generally using arithmetic duality theorems, starting with works of Sansuc and of Colliot-Thélène. In this article, we prove the analogous statements (and include obstructions to strong approximation over finite places) in the general case of a commutative affine group scheme $G$ of finite type over a global field in any characteristic. We also study finiteness of different variants of the second Tate-Shafarevich kernel (such as $S$-kernels and $\omega$-kernels) of the Cartier dual of $G$. All this is made possible by some recent theoretical advancements in positive characteristic, namely the finiteness theorems of B. Conrad and the generalized Tate duality of Z. Rosengarten.

A Foundation for Synthetic Algebraic Geometry

Abstract:This is a foundation for algebraic geometry, developed internal to the Zariski topos, building on the work of Kock and Blechschmidt. The Zariski topos consists of sheaves on the site opposite to the category of finitely presented algebras over a fixed ring, with the Zariski topology, i.e. generating covers are given by localization maps $A\to A_{f_1}$ for finitely many elements $f_1,\dots,f_n$ that generate the ideal $(1)=A\subseteq A$. We use homotopy type theory together with three axioms as the internal language of a (higher) Zariski topos. One of our main contributions is the use of higher types -- in the homotopical sense -- to define and reason about cohomology. Actually computing cohomology groups, seems to need a principle along the lines of our ``Zariski local choice'' axiom, which we justify as well as the other axioms using a cubical model of homotopy type theory.

More precisely, for a nonabelian extension, we construct completely normal elements for Drinfeld modular function fields using Siegel functions in function fields. For an abelian extension, we construct completely normal elements for cyclotomic function fields.

Abstract:We prove a local-to-global principle for Brauer classes: for any finite collection of non-trivial Brauer classes on a variety over a field of transcendence degree at least 3, there are infinitely many specializations where each class stays non-trivial. This is deduced from a Grothendieck--Lefschetz-type theorem for Brauer groups of certain smooth stacks. This also leads to the notion of a Brauertsch field.

Abstract:Let $k$ be a Brauer field, that is, a field over which every diagonal form in sufficiently many variables has a nonzero solution; for instance, $k$ could be an imaginary quadratic number field. Brauer proved that if $f_1, \ldots, f_r$ are homogeneous polynomials on a $k$-vector space $V$ of degrees $d_1, \ldots, d_r$, then the variety $Z$ defined by the $f_i$'s has a non-trivial $k$-point, provided that $\dim{V}$ is sufficiently large compared to the $d_i$'s and $k$. We offer two improvements to this theorem, assuming $k$ is infinite. First, we show that the Zariski closure of the set $Z(k)$ of $k$-points has codimension $<C$, where $C$ is a constant depending only on the $d_i$'s and $k$. And second, we show that if the strength of the $f_i$'s is sufficiently large in terms of the $d_i$'s and $k$, then $Z(k)$ is actually Zariski dense in $Z$. The proofs rely on recent work of Ananyan and Hochster on high strength polynomials.

As applications we give algorithms to determine the minimal field of definition of such a variety and to determine whether two such varieties are twists.

Abstract:Consider an infinite minimal free resolution of a module $M$ over a local Noetherian ring $R$. It was shown by Eisenbud that if $R$ is a complete intersection ring, then a minimal resolution is periodic iff it is bounded. Over more general rings, Peeva and Gasharov showed this periodicity does not always hold. However, in every computed example, the sum of $n$ consecutive ideals of minors of matrices in the resolution is fixed for some $n$, asymptotically. We prove this in general for certain Generalized Positive Burch Index Rings, in the sense of Dao, Kobayashi, and Takahashi. In doing so, we develop techniques that begin to explain this periodicity in more generality.

Abstract:Normal bases are widely used in applications of Galois fields and Galois rings in areas such as coding, encryption symmetric algorithms (block cipher), signal processing, and so on. In this paper, we study the normal bases for Galois ring extension R / Z p r , where R = GR ( p r , n ) . We present a criterion on the normal basis for R / Z p r and reduce this problem to one of finite field extension R ¯ / Z ¯ p r = F q / F p ( q = p n ) by Theorem 1. We determine all optimal normal bases for Galois ring extension.
Galois invariants of finite abelian descent and Brauer sets

Abstract:For a variety over a global field, one can consider subsets of the set of adelic points of the variety cut out by finite abelian descent or Brauer-Manin obstructions. Given a Galois extension of the ground field one can consider similar sets over the extension and take Galois invariants. In this paper, we study under which circumstances the Galois invariants recover the obstruction sets over the ground field. As an application of our results, we study finite abelian descent and Brauer-Manin obstructions for isotrivial curves over function fields and extend results obtained by the first and last authors for constant curves to the isotrivial case.

A Reverse Mathematical Analysis of Hilbert's Nullstellensatz and Basis Theorem

Abstract:This paper presents an expository reverse-mathematical analysis of two fundamental theorems in commutative algebra: Hilbert's Nullstellensatz and Basis Theorem. In addition to its profound significance in commutative algebra and algebraic geometry, the Basis Theorem is also historically notable for its nonconstructive proof. The Nullstellensatz, on the other hand, is noteworthy as it establishes a fundamental connection between the more algebraic notion of ideals and the more geometric notion of varieties. We explore the conscious shift from computational to conceptual approaches in mathematical argumentation, contextualizing Hilbert's contributions. We formalize the relative constructivity of these theorems using the framework of reverse mathematics, although we do not presuppose familiarity with reverse mathematics. Drawing from contemporary mathematical literature, we analyze the Basis Theorem's reliance on nonconstructive methods versus the more constructive nature of the Nullstellensatz. Our study employs the standard tools of reverse mathematics, in particular subsystems of second-order arithmetic, to outline the minimal set-existence axioms required for these theorems. We review results showing that certain formulations of the Nullstellensatz are provable in the weak axiom system of $\mathsf{RCA}_0$, while the Basis Theorem requires stronger axioms, such as $\Sigma^0_2$-Induction. Consequently, we position these theorems separately within the Friedman-Simpson hierarchy. This analysis contributes to a deeper understanding of the foundational requirements for these pivotal results in algebra.

A topological approach to undefinability in algebraic extensions of $\mathbb{Q}$

Abstract:For any subset $Z \subseteq \mathbb{Q}$, consider the set $S_Z$ of subfields $L\subseteq \overline{\mathbb{Q}}$ which contain a co-infinite subset $C \subseteq L$ that is universally definable in $L$ such that $C \cap \mathbb{Q}=Z$. Placing a natural topology on the set $\text{Sub}(\overline{\mathbb{Q}})$ of subfields of $\overline{\mathbb{Q}}$, we show that if $Z$ is not thin in $\mathbb{Q}$, then $S_Z$ is meager in $\text{Sub}(\overline{\mathbb{Q}})$. Here, thin and meager both mean "small", in terms of arithmetic geometry and topology, respectively. For example, this implies that only a meager set of fields $L$ have the property that the ring of algebraic integers $\mathcal{O}_L$ is universally definable in $L$. The main tools are Hilbert's Irreducibility Theorem and a new normal form theorem for existential definitions. The normal form theorem, which may be of independent interest, says roughly that every $\exists$-definable subset of an algebraic extension of $\mathbb Q$ is a finite union of single points and projections of hypersurfaces defined by absolutely irreducible polynomials.

Higher Specht bases for generalizations of the coinvariant ring

Abstract:The classical coinvariant ring $R_n$ is defined as the quotient of a polynomial ring in $n$ variables by the positive-degree $S_n$-invariants. It has a known basis that respects the decomposition of $R_n$ into irreducible $S_n$-modules, consisting of the higher specht polynomials due to Ariki, Terasoma, and Yamada. We provide an extension of the higher Specht basis to the generalized coinvariant rings $R_{n,k}$. We also give a conjectured higher Specht basis for the Garsia-Procesi modules $R_\mu$, and provide a proof of the conjecture in the case of two-row partition shapes $\mu$. We then combine these results to give a higher Specht basis for an infinite subfamily of the modules $R_{n,k,\mu}$ recently defined by Griffin, which are a common generalization of $R_{n,k}$ and $R_{\mu}$.
