Abstract:Motivated by the Asynchronous Finite Differences Method utilized for the calculation of the most probable distributions of finite particle number systems, this study employs numerical variation and central difference techniques to provide more precise estimations regarding these distributions. Specifically, three novel finite distributions are derived and applied to Bose-Einstein condensation, revealing that the critical condition ($n\lambda^3=2.612$) may be relaxed in finite particle number scenarios. Moreover, maintaining density as a constant is anticipated to result in a higher critical temperature compared to infinite number systems. Notably, the obtained condensate number on the zero-energy level surpasses that of predictions generated by canonical distributions.

Abstract:We investigated the entropy bounds of the three types of statistics: para-Bose, para-Fermi and infinite statistics. We showed that the entropy bounds of the conventional Bose, Fermi statistics and their generalizations to parastatistics obey the A^3/4 law, while the entropy bound of infinite statistics obeys the area law. This suggests a close relationship between infinite statistics and quantum gravity.

Abstract:We consider the path-integral representation of the ideal Bose gas under various boundary conditions. We show that Bose--Einstein condensation occurs at the famous critical density threshold, by proving that its $1$-particle-reduced density matrix exhibits off-diagonal long-range order above that threshold, but not below. Our proofs are based on the well-known Feynman--Kac formula and a representation in terms of a crucial Poisson point process. Furthermore, in the condensation regime, we derive a law of large numbers with strong concentration for the number of particles in short loops. In contrast to the situation for free boundary conditions, where the entire condensate sits in just one loop, for all other boundary conditions we obtain the limiting Poisson--Dirichlet distribution for the collection of the lengths of all long loops. Our proofs are new and purely probabilistic (apart from a standard eigenvalue expansion), using elementary tools like Markov's inequality, Poisson point processes, combinatorial formulas for cardinalities of particular partition sets, and asymptotics for random walks with Pareto-distributed steps.

Abstract:The paper considers the spatially homogeneous Boltzmann equation for Bose-Einstein particles (BBE). In order to include the hard sphere model, the equation is studied in a weak form and its solutions (including initial data) are set in the class of isotropic positive Borel measures and therefore called isotropic distributional solutions. Stability of distributional solutions is established in the weak topology, global existence of distributional solutions that conserve the mass and energy is proved by weak convergence of approximate L1-solutions, and moment production estimates for the distributional solutions are also obtained. As an application of the weak form of the BBE equation, it is shown that a Bose-Einstein distribution plus a Dirac dt-function is an equilibrium solution to the BBE equation in the weak form if and only if it satisfies a low temperature condition and an exact ratio of the Bose-Einstein condensation.

Abstract:The Boltzmann distribution is used in statistical mechanics to describe the distribution of states in systems with a given temperature. We give a novel characterization of this distribution as the unique one satisfying independence for uncoupled systems. The theorem boils down to a statement about symmetries of the convolution semigroup of finitely supported probability measures on the natural numbers, or, alternatively, about symmetries of the multiplicative semigroup of polynomials with non-negative coefficients.

Abstract:We consider the Dirichlet eigenvalues of the Laplacian among a Poissonian cloud of hard spherical obstacles of fixed radius in large boxes of $\mathbb{R}^d$, $d \ge 2$. In a large box of side-length $2l$ centered at the origin, the lowest eigenvalue is known to be typically of order $(\log l)^{-2/d}$. We show here that with probability arbitrarily close to $1$ as $l$ goes to infinity, the spectral gap stays bigger than $\sigma (\log l)^{-(1 + 2/d)}$, where the small positive number $\sigma$ depends on how close to $1$ one wishes the probability. Incidentally, the scale $(\log l)^{-(1+ 2/d)}$ is expected to capture the correct size of the gap. Our result involves the proof of new deconcentration estimates. Combining this lower bound on the spectral gap with the results of Kerner-Pechmann-Spitzer, we infer a type-I generalized Bose-Einstein condensation in probability for a Kac-Luttinger system of non-interacting bosons among Poissonian spherical impurities, with the sole macroscopic occupation of the one-particle ground state when the density exceeds the critical value.

Classical derivation of Bose-Einstein statistics

Abstract:Without invoking quantum mechanics I prove that, at thermal equilibrium, the observed distribution of energy among any set of non-interacting harmonic oscillators is a Bose-Einstein distribution, albeit with an unknown constant, ${h_?}$, in place of Planck's constant, $h$. I identify characteristics of the classical independent-oscillator Hamiltonian that make my derivation of the Bose-Einstein distribution possible, and I point out that other classical physical systems, such as an ideal gas, have Hamiltonians that can be transformed canonically into forms with these characteristics. If ${h_?=h}$, among the implications of this work are that (i) there is no discrepancy between the experimentally-observed spectrum of a blackbody and what should be expected if light was a mechanical wave in a bounded medium; (ii) there is no discrepancy between the experimentally-observed temperature dependence of a crystal's heat capacity and what should be expected of classical lattice waves; and (iii) when a cluster of massive particles is cold enough, the classical expectation should be that almost all of its vibrational energy is possessed by its lowest-frequency normal mode. Therefore, below a certain temperature, all but one of its degrees of freedom are almost inactive and it is a Bose-Einstein condensate.

Their bivariate distributions and related properties, namely ($\mathcal{R}(p,q)$-mean, $\mathcal{R}(p,q)$-variance and $\mathcal{R}(p,q)$-covariance) are computed and discussed. Particular cases corresponding to quantum algebras existing in literature are deduced.

Abstract:Links between power law probability distributions and marginal distributions of uniform laws on $p$-spheres in $\mathbb{R}^{n}$ show that a mathematical derivation of the Boltzmann-Gibbs distribution necessarily passes through power law ones. Results are also given that link parameters $p$ and $n$ to the value of the non-extensivity parameter $q$ that characterizes these power laws in the context of non-extensive statistics.

Abstract:The paper deals with the order statistics and empirical mathematical expectation (which is also called the estimate of mathematical expectation in the literature) in the case of infinitely increasing random variables. The Kolmogorov concept which he used in the theory of complexity and the relationship with thermodynamics which was pointed out already by Poincaré are considered. The mathematical expectation (generalizing the notion of arithmetical mean, which is generally equal to infinity for any increasing sequence of random variables) is compared with the notion of temperature in thermodynamics by using an analog of nonstandard analysis. The relationship with the Van-der-Waals law of corresponding states is shown. Some applications of this concept in economics, in internet information network, and self-teaching systems are considered.

Abstract:Long time behavior of solutions of the spatially homogeneous Boltzmann equation for Bose–Einstein particles is studied for hard potentials with certain cutoffs and for the hard sphere model. It is proved that in the cutoff case solutions as time$t\rightarrow\infty$ converge to the Bose–Einstein distribution in L1 topology with the weighted measure$(\varrho +|v|^2)dv$, where$\varrho=1$ for temperature$T\geq T_c$ and$\varrho=0$ for T<T c . In particular this implies that if T<T c then the solutions in the velocity regions$\{v\in{\bf R}^3|\,\,|v|\leq \delta (t)\}$ (with$\delta(t)\rightarrow 0$) converge to a unique Dirac delta function (velocity concentration). All these convergence are uniform with respect to the cutoff constants. For the hard sphere model, these results hold also for weak or distributional solutions. Our methods are based on entropy inequalities and an observation that the convergence to Bose–Einstein distributions can be reduced to the convergence to Maxwell distributions.

Abstract:The microstate of any degree of freedom of any classical dynamical system can be represented by a point in its two dimensional phase space. Since infinitely precise measurements are impossible, a measurement can, at best, constrain the location of this point to a region of phase space whose area is finite. This paper explores the implications of assuming that this finite area is bounded from below. I prove that if the same lower bound applied to every degree of freedom of a sufficiently-cold classical dynamical system, the distribution of the system's energy among its degrees of freedom would be a Bose–Einstein distribution.

Abstract:A quasi-infinitely divisible distribution on $\mathbb{R}$ is a probability distribution whose characteristic function allows a Lévy-Khintchine type representation with a "signed Lévy measure", rather than a Lévy measure. Quasi-infinitely divisible distributions appear naturally in the factorization of infinitely divisible distributions. Namely, a distribution $\mu$ is quasi-infinitely divisible if and only if there are two infinitely divisible distributions $\mu_1$ and $\mu_2$ such that $\mu_1 \ast \mu = \mu_2$. The present paper studies certain properties of quasi-infinitely divisible distributions in terms of their characteristic triplet, such as properties of supports, finiteness of moments, continuity properties and weak convergence, with various examples constructed. In particular, it is shown that the set of quasi-infinitely divisible distributions is dense in the set of all probability distributions with respect to weak convergence. Further, it is proved that a distribution concentrated on the integers is quasi-infinitely divisible if and only if its characteristic function does not have zeroes, with the use of the Wiener-Lévy theorem on absolutely convergent Fourier series. A number of fine properties of such distributions are proved based on this fact. A similar characterisation is not true for non-lattice probability distributions on the line.

Abstract:In this paper, a connection between bi-free probability and the asymptotics of random quantum channels and tensor products of random matrices is established. Using bi-free matrix models, it is demonstrated that the spectral distribution of certain self-adjoint quantum channels and tensor products of random matrices tend to a distribution that can be obtained by an averaged sum of products of bi-freely independent pairs. Subsequently, using bi-free techniques, a Central Limit Theorem for such operator is established.

Abstract:We introduce probability thermodynamics and probability quantum fields. By probability we mean that there is an unknown operator, physical or nonphysical, whose eigenvalues obey a certain statistical distribution. Eigenvalue spectra define spectral functions. Various thermodynamic quantities in thermodynamics and effective actions in quantum field theory are all spectral functions. In the scheme, eigenvalues obey a probability distribution, so a probability distribution determines a family of spectral functions in thermodynamics and quantum field theory. This leads to probability thermodynamics and probability quantum fields determined by a probability distribution. In constructing spectral functions, we encounter a problem. The conventional definition of spectral functions applies only to lower bounded spectra. In our scheme, however, there are two types of spectra: lower bounded spectra, corresponding to the probability distribution with nonnegative random variables, and the lower unbounded spectra, corresponding to probability distributions with negative random variables. To take the lower unbounded spectra into account, we generalize the definition of spectral functions by analytical continuation. In some cases, we encounter divergences. We remove the divergence by a renormalization procedure. Moreover, in virtue of spectral theory in physics, we generalize some concepts in probability theory. For example, the moment-generating function in probability theory does not always exist. We redefine the moment-generating function as the generalized heat kernel introduced in this paper, which makes the concept definable when the definition in probability theory fails. Thermodynamic quantities, vacuum amplitudes, one-loop effective actions, and vacuum energies for various probability distributions are presented.

The density of a one-dimensional Bose gas far from an impurity

Abstract:We consider an impurity in a one-dimensional weakly-interacting Bose gas and analytically calculate the density profile of the Bose gas. Within the mean-field approximation, by increasing the distance from the impurity, the Bose gas density saturates exponentially fast to its mean thermodynamic-limit value at distances beyond the healing length. The effect of quantum fluctuations drastically changes this behavior, leading to a power law decay of the density deviation from the mean density. At distances longer than the healing length and shorter than a new length scale proportional to the impurity coupling strength, the power-law exponent is $2$, while at longest distances the corresponding exponent becomes $3$. The latter crossover does not exist in two special cases. The first one is realized for infinitely strongly coupled impurity; then the density deviation always decays with the exponent $2$. The second special case occurs when the new length scale is smaller than the healing length, i.e., at weak impurity coupling; then the density deviation always decays with the exponent $3$. The obtained results are exact in the impurity coupling strength and account for the leading order in the interaction between the particles of the Bose gas.

Abstract:We study regularity and finite time condensation of distributional solutions of the space-homogeneous and velocity-isotropic Boltzmann equation for Bose–Einstein particles for the hard sphere model. Global in time existence of distributional solutions had been proven before. Here we prove that the equation is locally and can be globally (in time) well-posed for the class of distributional solutions having finite moment of the negative order -1/2 , and solutions in this class with regular initial data are mild solutions in their regularity time-intervals. By observing a necessary condition on the initial data for the absence of condensation at some finite time, we also propose a sufficient condition on the initial data for the occurrence of condensation at all large time, and then using a positivity of a partial collision integral we prove further that the critical time of condensation can be strictly positive.
