Abstract:We prove a general fluctuation limit theorem for Galton-Watson branching processes with immigration. The limit is a time-inhomogeneous OU type process driven by a spectrally positive Levy process. As applications of this result, we obtain some asymptotic estimates for the conditional least-squares estimator of the offspring means and variances of the offspring and immigration distributions.

Abstract:We investigate subcritical Galton-Watson branching processes with immigration in a random environment. Using Goldie's implicit renewal theory we show that under general Cramér condition the stationary distribution has a power law tail. We determine the tail process of the stationary Markov chain, prove point process convergence, and convergence of the partial sums. The original motivation comes from Kesten, Kozlov and Spitzer seminal 1975 paper, which connects a random walk in a random environment model to a special Galton-Watson process with immigration in a random environment. We obtain new results even in this very special setting.

Abstract:In this paper, a critical Galton-Watson branching process with immigration $Z_{n}$ is studied. We first obtain the convergence rate of the harmonic moment of $Z_{n}$. Then the large deviation of $S_{Z_n}:=\sum_{i=1}^{Z_n} X_i$ is obtained, where $\{X_i\}$ is a sequence of independent and identically distributed zero-mean random variables with tail index $\alpha>2$. We shall see that the converging rate is determined by the immigration mean, the variance of reproducing and the tail index of $X_1^+$, comparing to previous result for supercritical case, where the rate depends on the Schröder constant and the tail index.

For $a\in\{0,1,2,...\},$ let $C=\{n\ge0:Z_n=a\}$ be the collection of times at which the population size of the process attains level $a.$ We give a criterion to determine whether the set $C$ is finite or not. For critical Galton-Watson process, we show that $|C\cap [1,n]|/\log n\rightarrow S$ in distribution, where $S$ is an exponentially distributed random variable with $P(S>t)=e^{-t},\ t>0.$

Abstract:In the spirit of Duqesne and Winkel (2007) and Berestycki et al. (2011) we show that supercritical continuous-state branching process with a general branching mechanism and general immigration mechanism is equal in law to a continuous-time Galton Watson process with immigration with Poissonian dressing. The result also characterises the limiting backbone decomposition which is predictable from the work on consistent growth of Galton-Watson trees with immigration in Cao and Winkel (2010).

Abstract:In this paper, we establish a central limit theorem for a large class of general supercritical superprocesses with immigration with spatially dependent branching mechanisms satisfying a second moment condition. This central limit theorem extends and generalizes the results obtained by Ren, Song and Zhang[2015]. We first give law of large numbers for supercritical superprocesses with immigration since there is few convergence result on immigration superprocesses, then based on these results, we establish the central limit theorem.

Abstract:We consider the small value probability of supercritical continuous state branching processes with immigration. From Pinsky (1972) it is known that under regularity condition on the branching mechanism and immigration mechanism, the normalized population size converges to a non-degenerate finite and positive limit W as t tends to infinity. We provide sharp estimate on asymptotic behavior of ℙ(W ⩽ ɛ) as ɛ → 0+ by studying the Laplace transform of W. Without immigration, we also give a simpler proof for the small value probability in the non-subordinator case via the prolific backbone decomposition.

Abstract:In this paper we consider a triangular array of branching processes with non-stationary immigration. We prove a weak convergence of properly normalized branching processes with immigration to deterministic function under assumption that immigration is rowwise $\psi-$mixing and the offspring mean tends to its critical value 1, immigration mean and variance controlled by regularly varying functions. Moreover, we obtain a fluctuation limit theorem for branching process with immigration when immigration is $m-$dependent where $m$ may tend to infinity with the row index at a certain rate. In this case the limiting process is a time-changed Wiener process. Our results extend and improve the previous known results in the literature.

Abstract:Limit behaviour of temporal and contemporaneous aggregations of independent copies of a stationary multitype Galton-Watson branching process with immigration is studied in the so-called iterated and simultaneous cases, respectively. In both cases, the limit process is a zero mean Brownian motion with the same covariance function under third order moment conditions on the branching and immigration distributions. We specialize our results for generalized integer-valued autoregressive processes and single-type Galton-Watson processes with immigration as well.

Abstract:This work provides a brief introduction to continuous-state branching processes (CB-processes) and continuous-state branching processes with immigration (CBI-processes) accessible to graduate students with reasonable background in probability theory and stochastic processes. In particular, we give a quick development of the stochastic equations of the processes and some immediate applications. The proofs given here are more elementary than those appearing in the literature before. We have made them readable without requiring too much preliminary knowledge on branching processes and stochastic analysis. In Section 1, we review some properties of Laplace transforms of finite measures on the positive half line. In Section 2, a construction of CB-processes is given as rescaling limits of Galton--Watson branching processes. This approach also gives the physical interpretation of the CB-processes. Some basic properties of the processes are developed in Section 3. The Laplace transforms of some positive integral functionals are calculated explicitly in Section 4. In Section 5, the CBI-processes are constructed as rescaling limits of Galton--Watson branching processes with immigration. In Section 6, we present reconstructions of the CB- and CBI-processes by Poisson random measures determined by entrance laws, which reveal the structures of the trajectories of the processes. Several equivalent formulations of martingale problems for CBI-processes are given in Section 7. From those we derive the stochastic equations of the processes in Section 8. Using the stochastic equations, some characterizations of local and global maximal jumps of the CB- and CBI-processes are given in Section 9. In Section 10, we prove the strong Feller property and the exponential ergodicity of the CBI-process under suitable conditions using a coupling based on one of the stochastic equations.

Abstract:We study the asymptotic behaviour of a critical decomposable 3-type Galton-Watson process with immigration when its offspring mean matrix is triangular with diagonal entries 1. It is proved that, under second or fourth order moment assumptions on the offspring and immigration distributions, a sequence of appropriately scaled random step processes formed from such a Galton-Watson process converges weakly. The limit process can be described using independent squared Bessel processes $(\mathcal{X}_{t,1})_{t\geq0}$, $(\mathcal{X}_{t,2})_{t\geq0}$, and $(\mathcal{X}_{t,3})_{t\geq0}$, the linear combinations of the integral processes of $(\mathcal{X}_{t,1})_{t\geq0}$ and $(\mathcal{X}_{t,2})_{t\geq0}$, and possibly the 2-fold iterated integral process of $(\mathcal{X}_{t,1})_{t\geq0}$. The presence of the 2-fold iterated integral process in the limit distribution is a new phenomenon in the description of asymptotic behavior of critical multi-type Galton-Watson processes with immigration. Our results complete and extend some results of Foster and Ney (1978) for some strongly critical decomposable 3-type Galton-Watson processes with immigration.
