Abstract:We show that if a meromorphic function of degree at most four on a real algebraic curve of an arbitrary genus has only real critical points then it is conjugate to a real meromorphic function after a suitable projective automorphism of the image.

Abstract:Suppose that $F$ is a smooth and connected complex surface (not necessarily compact) containing a smooth rational curve with positive self-intersection. We prove that if there exists a non-constant meromorphic function on $F$, then the field of meromorphic functions on $F$ is isomorphic to the field of rational functions in one or two variables over $\mathbb C$.

Abstract:We prove that fields of meromorphic functions on Stein surfaces have cohomological dimension 2, and solve the period-index problem and Serre's conjecture II for these fields. We obtain analogous results for fields of real meromorphic functions on Stein surfaces equipped with an antiholomorphic involution. We deduce an optimal quantitative solution to Hilbert's 17th problem on analytic surfaces.

Abstract:Let f be a transcendental meromorphic function of finite order in the plane such that f((m)) has finitely many zeros for some positive integer m >= 2. Suppose that f((k)) and f share a CM, where k >= 1 is a positive integer, a not equal 0 is a finite complex value. Then f is an entire function such that f((k)) - a = c(f - a), where c not equal 0 is a nonzero constant. The results in this paper are concerning a conjecture of Bruck [5]. An example is provided to show that the results in this paper, in a sense, are the best possible.

Abstract:We bound the number of fixed points of an automorphism of a real curve in terms of the genus and the number of connected components of the real part of the curve. Using this bound, we derive some consequences concerning the maximum order of an automorphism and the maximum order of an abelian group of automorphisms of a real curve. We also bound the full group of automorphisms of a real hyperelliptic curve.

Abstract:In projectivized strata of meromorphic $1$-forms on elliptic curves with only one zero, the locus of residueless differentials is a complex curve endowed with a canonical complex projective structure. Drawing on the multi-scale compactification of strata, we provide formulas to compute the genus of these curves and the degree of their natural forgetful map to $\mathcal{M}_{1,1}$. Additionally, we distinguish two non-hyperelliptic components in the residueless locus of the exceptional stratum $\mathcal{H}_{1}(12,-3,-3,-3,-3)$ and hence complete the classification of the connected components of these loci.

Abstract:We determine the image of the monodromy map for meromorphic projective structures with poles of orders greater than two. This proves the analogue of a theorem of Gallo-Kapovich-Marden, and answers a question of Allegretti and Bridgeland. Our proof uses coordinates on the moduli space of framed representations arising from the work of Fock and Goncharov.

Abstract:Merkurjev's theorem--the statement that the 2-torsion of the Brauer group is represented by Clifford algebras of quadratic forms--is in general false when the base is no longer a field. The work of Parimala, Scharlau, and Sridharan proves the existence of smooth complete curves over local fields, over which Merkurjev's theorem is equivalent to the existence of a rational theta characteristic. Here, we prove that for smooth curves over a local field or surfaces over a finite field, replacing the Witt group by the total Witt group of all line bundle-valued quadratic forms recovers Merkurjev's theorem: the 2-torsion of the Brauer group is always represented by even Clifford algebras of line bundle-valued quadratic forms.

Abstract:The complex projective structures considered is this article are compact curves locally modeled on $\mathbb{CP}^1$. To such a geometric object, modulo marked isomorphism, the monodromy map associates an algebraic one: a representation of its fundamental group into $\operatorname{PGL}(2,\mathbb{C})$, modulo conjugacy. This correspondence is neither surjective nor injective. Nonetheless, it is a local diffeomorphism [Hejhal, 1975]. We generalize this theorem to projective structures admitting poles (without apparent singularity and with fixed residues): the corresponding monodromy map (including Stokes data) is a local biholomorphism.

Abstract:We study the uniqueness question of transcendental meromorphic functions that share four distinct finite values a1, a2, a3, a4, where all the a j -points of the transcendental meromorphic functions are real numbers for 1 ≤ j ≤ 4. The results in this paper improve and extend the corresponding results from Czubiak–Gundersen (Proc Am Math Soc 82:393–397, 1981) and Yi (Proc Am Math Soc 124:585–590, 1996). An example is provided to show that the results in this paper, in a sense, are the best possible.

Abstract:A meromorphic projective structure on a punctured Riemann surface $X\setminus P$ is determined, after fixing a standard projective structure on $X$, by a meromorphic quadratic differential with poles of order three or more at each puncture in $P$. In this article we prove the analogue of Thurston's grafting theorem for such meromorphic projective structures, that involves grafting crowned hyperbolic surfaces. This also provides a grafting description for projective structures on $\mathbb{C}$ that have polynomial Schwarzian derivatives. As an application of our main result, we prove the analogue of a result of Hejhal, namely, we show that the monodromy map to the decorated character variety (in the sense of Fock-Goncharov) is a local homeomorphism.

Abstract:Let $\mathfrak g$ be an infinite-dimensional Lie algebra, and $G$ be the algebraic completion of a $\mathfrak g$-module. Using the geometric model of Schottky uniformization of Riemann sphere to obtain a higher genus Riemann surface, we construct a family of parametric extensions of coboundary operators for the double complexes of meromorphic functions depending on elements of $G$, and possessing prescribed analytic properties.

Abstract:A meromorphic quadratic differential on a compact Riemann surface defines a complex projective structure away from the poles via the Schwarzian equation. In this article we first prove the analogue of Thurston's Grafting Theorem for the space of such structures with signings at regular singularities. This extends previous work of Gupta-Mj which only considered irregular singularities. We also define a framed monodromy map from the signed space extending work of Allegretti-Bridgeland, and we characterize the PSL(2,C)-representations that arise as holonomy, generalizing results of Gupta-Mj and Faraco-Gupta. As an application of our Grafting Theorem, we also show that the monodromy map to the moduli space of framed representations (as introduced by Fock-Goncharov) is a local biholomorphism, proving a conjectured analogue of a result of Hejhal.

We show that if all zeros and poles of f are multiple, except possibly finitely many, then f′−R has infinitely many zeros. Abstract:A conjecture of Voisin states that two points on a smooth projective complex variety whose algebra of holomorphic forms is generated in degree 2 are rationally equivalent to each other if and only if their difference lies in the third step of the Bloch-Beilinson filtration. In this note, we formulate a generalization that allows for rational equivalence of effective zero-cycles of higher degree, at the expense of looking deeper in the Bloch-Beilinson filtration. In the first half, we provide evidence in support of this conjecture in the case of abelian varieties and projective hyper-Kähler manifolds. Notably, we give explicit criteria for rational equivalence of effective zero-cycles on moduli spaces of semistable sheaves on K3 surfaces, generalizing that of Marian-Zhao. In the second half, in an effort to explain our main conjecture, we formulate a second conjecture predicting when the diagonal of a smooth projective variety belongs to a subalgebra of the ring of correspondences generated in low degree.

Abstract:We prove that the space of holomorphic $p$-forms on the moduli space $\overline{\mathcal{M}}_{g,n}$ of stable curves of genus $g$ with $n$ marked points vanishes for $p=14, 16, 18$ unconditionally and also for $p=20$ under a natural assumption in the case $g=3$. This result is consistent with the Langlands program and it is obtained by applying the Arbarello-Cornalba inductive approach to the cohomology of moduli spaces.

Abstract:Let B be the class of meromorphic functions f such that the set sing (f(-1)) is bounded, where sing (f(-1)) is the set of critical and asymptotic values off. Suppose that f has at most finitely many poles in the complex plane, and that L(f) - P and f - P share 0 CM, where L[f] = f((k)) + a(k-1)f((k-1)) + . . . + a(1)f' + a(0)f, where k is a positive-integer and a(0), a(1), . . . , a(k-1) are complex numbers, P is a nonconstant polynomial. Then, the hyper-order of f is nonnegative integer or infinity. Applying this result, we obtain some uniqueness results for transcendental meromorphic functions having the same fixed points with their linear differential polynomials, where the meromorphic functions belong to B and have at most finitely many poles in the complex plane. The results in this paper are concerning a conjecture of Briick [5]. An example is provided to show that the results in this paper are best possible.

Abstract:In this short note we would like to show how it is possible to use techniques introduced in the theory of local dynamics of holomorphic germs tangent to the identity to study global meromorphic self-maps of the complex projective space. In particular we shall show how a meromorphic self-map of a complex projective space induces a holomorphic foliation of the projective space in Riemann surfaces, whose singular points are exactly the fixed points and the indeterminacy points of the map; and we shall prove three index theorems, relating suitably defined local residues at the fixed and indeterminacy points with Chern classes of the projective space.
