Abstract:To a higher rank directed graph $(\Lambda, d)$, in the sense of Kumjian and Pask, one can associate natural noncommutative analytic Toeplitz algebras, both weakly closed and norm closed. We introduce methods for the classification of these algebras in the case of single vertex graphs.

Abstract:We study a class of A∞-algebras, named (2,p)-algebras, which is related to the class of p-homogeneous algebras, especially to the class of p-Koszul algebras. A general method to construct (2,p)-algebras is given. Koszul dual of a connected graded algebra is defined in terms of A∞-algebra. It is proved that a p-homogeneous algebra A is p-Koszul if and only if the Koszul dual E(A) is a reduced (2,p)-algebra and generated by E1(A). The (2,p)-algebra structure of the Koszul dual E(A) of a p-Koszul algebra A is described explicitly. A necessary and sufficient condition for a p-homogeneous algebra to be a p-Koszul algebra is also given when the higher multiplications on the Koszul dual are ignored.

Abstract:Let λ and μ be sequence spaces and have both the signed-weak gliding hump property, (λ, μ) the algebra of the infinite matrix operators which transform λ into μ. In this paper, it is proved that if λ and μ are β-spaces and λ β and μ β have also the signed-weak gliding hump property, then for any polar topology τ, ((λ, μ), τ) is always sequentially complete locally convex topological algebra.

Abstract:This paper examines (restricted) Koszul Lie algebras, a class of positively graded Lie algebras with a quadratic presentation and specific cohomological properties. The study employs HNN-extensions as a key tool for decomposing and analysing these algebras. Building on a previous work on Koszul Lie algebras ("Kurosh theorem for certain Koszul Lie algebras", S. Blumer), this paper also deals with Bloch-Kato Lie algebras, which constitute a distinguished subclass of that of Koszul Lie algebras where all subalgebras generated by elements of degree $1$ have a quadratic presentation. It is shown that Bloch-Kato Lie algebras satisfy a version of the Levi decomposition theorem and that they satisfy the Toral Rank Conjecture. Two new families of such Lie algebras are introduced, including all graded Lie algebras generated in degree $1$ and defined by two quadratic relations. Throughout the paper, we show many properties of right-angled Artin graded (RAAG) Lie algebras, which form a large class of Koszul Lie algebras.

Abstract:Let $A$ be a standard graded $\mathbb{K}$-algebra of finite type over an algebraically closed field of characteristic zero. We use apolarity to construct, for each degree $k$, a projective variety whose osculating defect in degree $s$ is equivalent to the non maximality of the rank of the multiplication map for a power of a general linear form $\times L^{k-s}: A_s \to A_k$. In the Artinian case, this notion corresponds to the failure of the Strong Lefschetz property for $A$, which allows to reobtain some of the foundational theorems in the field. It also implies the SLP for codimension two Artinian algebras, a known result. The results presented in this work provide new insights on the geometry of monomial Togliatti systems, and offer a geometric interpretation of the vanishing of higher order Hessians.

Real and complex K-theory for higher rank graph algebras arising from cube complexes

Abstract:Using the Evans spectral sequence and its counter-part for real $K$-theory, we compute both the real and complex $K$-theory of several infinite families of $C^*$-algebras based on higher-rank graphs of rank $3$ and $4$. The higher-rank graphs we consider arise from double-covers of cube complexes. By considering the real and complex $K$-theory together, we are able to carry these computations much further than might be possible considering complex $K$-theory alone. As these algebras are classified by $K$-theory, we are able to characterize the isomorphism classes of the graph algebras in terms of the combinatorial and number-theoretic properties of the construction ingredients.

Abstract:Given a row-finite higher-rank $k$-graph $\Lambda$, we define a commutative monoid $T_\Lambda$ which is a higher-rank analogue of the talented monoid of a directed graph. The talented monoid $T_\Lambda$ is canonically a $\mathbb{Z}^k$-monoid with respect to the action of state shift. This monoid coincides with the positive cone of the graded Grothendieck group $K_0^{gr}(KP_\mathsf{k}(\Lambda))$ of the Kumjian-Pask algebra $KP_\mathsf{k}(\Lambda)$ with coefficients in a field $\mathsf{k}$. The aim of the paper is to investigate this $\mathbb{Z}^k$-monoid as a capable invariant for classification of Kumjian-Pask algebras. If $\mathbb{Z}^k$ acts freely on $T_\Lambda$ (i.e., if $T_\Lambda$ has no nonzero periodic element), then we show that the $k$-graph $\Lambda$ is aperiodic. The converse is also proved to be true provided $\Lambda$ has no sources and $T_\Lambda$ is atomic. Moreover in this case, we provide a talented monoid characterization for strongly aperiodic $k$-graphs. We prove that for a row-finite $k$-graph $\Lambda$ without sources, cofinality is equivalent to the simplicity of $T_\Lambda$ as a $\mathbb{Z}^k$-monoid. In view of this we provide a talented monoid criterion for the Kumjian-Pask algebra $KP_R(\Lambda)$ of $\Lambda$ over a unital commutative ring $R$ to be graded basic ideal simple. We also describe the minimal left ideals of $KP_\mathsf{k}(\Lambda)$ in terms of the aperiodic atoms of $T_\Lambda$ and thus obtain a monoid theoretic characterization for $Soc(KP_\mathsf{k}(\Lambda)$) to be an essential ideal. These results help us to characterize semisimple Kumjian-Pask algebras through the lens of $T_\Lambda$.

Classification of graph algebras: A selective survey

Abstract:This survey reports on current progress of programs to classify graph C*-algebras and Leavitt path algebras up to Morita equivalence using K-theory. Beginning with an overview and some history, we trace the development of the classification of simple and nonsimple graph C*-algebras and state theorems summarizing the current status of these efforts. We then discuss the much more nascent efforts to classify Leavitt path algebras, and we describe the current status of these efforts as well as outline current impediments that must be solved for this classification program to progress. In particular, we give two specific open problems that must be addressed in order to identify the correct K-theoretic invariant for classification of simple Leavitt path algebras, and we discuss the significance of various possible outcomes to these open problems.

Higher Lorentzian Polynomials, Higher Hessians, and the Hodge-Riemann Property for Graded Oriented Artinian Gorenstein Algebras in Codimension Two

Abstract:A (standard graded) oriented Artinian Gorenstein algebra over the real numbers is uniquely determined by a real homogeneous polynomial called its Macaulay dual generator. We study the mixed Hodge-Riemann relations on oriented Artinian Gorenstein algebras for which we give a signature criterion on the higher mixed Hessian matrices of its Macaulay dual generator. Inspired by recent work of Brändén and Huh, we introduce a class of homogeneous polynomials in two variables called $i$-Lorentzian polynomials, and show that these are exactly the Macaulay dual generators of oriented Artinian Gorenstein algebras in codimension two satisfying mixed Hodge-Riemann relations up to degree $i$ on the positive orthant of linear forms. We further show that the set of $i$-Lorentzian polynomials of degree $d$ are in one-to-one correspondence with the set of totally nonnegative Toeplitz matrices of size depending on $i$ and $d$. A corollary is that all normally stable polynomials, i.e. polynomials whose normalized coefficients form a PF sequence, are $i$-Lorentzian. Another corollary is an analogue of Whitney's theorem for Toeplitz matrices, which appears to be new: the closure of the set of totally positive Toeplitz matrices, in the Euclidean space of all real matrices of a given size, is equal to the set of totally nonnegative Toeplitz matrices.

Abstract:Let $n\ge 1$ and $A$ be a commutative algebra of the form $\boldsymbol k[x_1,x_2,\dots, x_n]/I$ where $\boldsymbol k$ is a field of characteristic $0$ and $I\subseteq \boldsymbol k[x_1,x_2,\dots, x_n]$ is an ideal. Assume that there is a Poisson bracket $\{\:,\:\}$ on $S$ such that $\{I,S\}\subseteq I$ and let us denote the induced bracket on $A$ by $\{\:,\:\}$ as well. It is well-known that $[\mathrm d x_i,\mathrm d x_j]:=\mathrm d\{x_i,x_j\}$ defines a Lie bracket on the $A$-module $\Omega_{A|\boldsymbol k}$ of Kähler differentials making $(A,\Omega_{A|\boldsymbol k})$ a Lie-Rinehart pair. Recall that $A$ is regular if and only if $\Omega_{A|\boldsymbol k}$ is projective as an $A$-module. If $A$ is not regular, the cotangent complex $\mathbb L_{A|\boldsymbol k}$ may serve as a replacement for the $A$-module $\Omega_{A|\boldsymbol k}$. We prove that there is a structure of an $L_\infty$-algebroid on $\mathbb L_{A|\boldsymbol k}$, compatible with the Lie-Rinehart pair $(A,\Omega_{A|\boldsymbol k})$. The $L_\infty$-algebroid on $\mathbb L_{A|\boldsymbol k}$ actually comes from a $P_\infty$-algebra structure on the resolvent of the morphism $k[x_1,x_2,\dots, x_n]\to A$. We identify examples when this $L_\infty$-algebroid simplifies to a dg Lie algebroid. For aesthetic reasons we concentrate on cases when $ \boldsymbol k[x_1,x_2,\dots, x_n]$ carries a (possibly nonstandard) $\mathbb Z_{\ge 0}$-grading and both $I$ and $\{\:,\:\}$ are homogeneous.

Toeplitz Operators with Analytic Symbols

Abstract:We develop a new semiclassical calculus in analytic regularity, and apply these techniques to the study of Berezin–Toeplitz quantization in real-analytic regularity. We provide asymptotic formulas for the Bergman projector and Berezin–Toeplitz operators on a compact Kähler manifold. These objects depend on an integer N and we study, in the limit $N\rightarrow +\infty $, situations in which one can control them up to an error $O(e^{-cN})$ for some $c>0$. We develop a calculus of Toeplitz operators with real-analytic symbols, which applies to Kähler manifolds with real-analytic metrics. In particular, we prove that the Bergman kernel is controlled up to $O(e^{-cN})$ on any real-analytic Kähler manifold as $N\rightarrow +\infty $. We also prove that Toeplitz operators with analytic symbols can be composed and inverted up to $O(e^{-cN})$. As an application, we study eigenfunction concentration for Toeplitz operators if both the manifold and the symbol are real-analytic. In this case we prove exponential decay in the classically forbidden region.

Abstract:We unite elements of category theory, K-theory, and geometric group theory, by defining a class of groups called $k$-cube groups, which act freely and transitively on the product of $k$ trees, for arbitrary $k$. The quotient of this action on the product of trees defines a $k$-dimensional cube complex, which induces a higher-rank graph. We make deductions about the K-theory of the corresponding $k$-rank graph C*-algebras, and give explicit examples of $k$-cube groups and their K-theory. We give explicit computations of K-theory for an infinite family of $k$-rank graphs for $k\geq 3$, which is not a direct consequence of the Künneth Theorem for tensor products.

Abstract:We develop and exposit some general algebra useful for working with certain algebraic structures that arise in stable homotopy theory, such as those encoding well-behaved theories of power operations for $\mathbb{E}_\infty$ ring spectra. In particular, we consider Quillen cohomology in the context of algebras over algebraic theories, plethories, and Koszul resolutions for algebras over additive theories. By combining this general algebra with obstruction-theoretic machinery, we obtain tools for computing with $\mathbb{E}_\infty$ algebras over $\mathbb{F}_p$ and over Lubin-Tate spectra. As an application, we demonstrate the existence of $\mathbb{E}_\infty$ periodic complex orientations at heights $h\leq 2$.

Abstract:Motivated by the Farrell-Jones Conjecture for group rings, we formulate the $\mathcal{C}$op-Farrell-Jones Conjecture for the K-theory of Hecke algebras of td-groups. We prove this conjecture for (closed subgroups of) reductive p-adic groups G. In particular, the projective class group $K_0(\mathcal{H}(G))$ for a (closed subgroup) of a reductive p-adic group G can be computed as a colimit of projective class groups $K_0(\mathcal{H}(U))$ where U varies over the compact open subgroups of G. This implies that all finitely generated smooth complex representations of a reductive p-adic G admit finite projective resolutions by compactly induced representations. For SL$_n(F)$ we translate the colimit formula for $K_0(\mathcal{H}(G))$ to a more concrete cokernel description in terms of stabilizers for the action on the Bruhat-Tits building. For negative K-theory we obtain vanishing results, while we identify the higher K-groups $K_n(\mathcal{H}(G))$ with the value of G-homology theory on the extended Bruhat-Tits building. Our considerations apply to general Hecke algebras of the form $\mathcal{H}(G;R,\rho,\omega)$, where we allow a central character $\omega$ and a twist by an action $\rho$ of G on R. For the $\mathcal{C}$op-Farrell-Jones Conjecture we need to assume $\mathbb{Q} \subseteq R$ and a regularity assumption. As a key intermediate step we introduce the $\mathcal{C}vcy-Farrell-Jones conjecture. For the latter no regularity assumptions on R are needed.

Ordinal graphs and their $\mathrm{C}^*$-algebras

Abstract:We introduce a class of left cancellative categories we call ordinal graphs for which there is a functor $d:\Lambda\rightarrow\mathrm{Ord}$ through which elements of $\Lambda$ factor. We use generators and relations to study the Cuntz-Krieger algebra $\mathcal{O}\left(\Lambda\right)$ defined by Spielberg. In particular, we construct a $\mathrm{C}^{*}$-correspondence $X_{\alpha}$ for each $\alpha\in\mathrm{Ord}$ in order to apply Eryüzlü and Tomforde's condition (S) and prove a Cuntz-Krieger uniqueness theorem for ordinal graphs.

Abstract:In this note, we present a new way to associate a spectral triple to the noncommutative $C^*$-algebra $C^*(\Lambda)$ of a strongly connected finite higher-rank graph $\Lambda$. We generalize a spectral triple of Consani and Marcolli from Cuntz-Krieger algebras to higher-rank graph $C^*$-algebras $C^*(\Lambda)$, and we prove that these spectral triples are intimately connected to the wavelet decomposition of the infinite path space of $\Lambda$ which was introduced by Farsi, Gillaspy, Kang, and Packer in 2015. In particular, we prove that the wavelet decomposition of Farsi et al. describes the eigenspaces of the Dirac operator of this spectral triple.
