Abstract:We prove Artin's axioms satisfy a compatibility for composition of 1-morphisms of stacks in groupoids. Consequently, some natural stacks in groupoids are algebraic, including a common generalization of Vistoli's Hilbert stack and the stack of branchvarieties of Alexeev and Knutson.

Abstract:Witten's gauged linear sigma model [Wi1] is one of the universal frameworks or structures that lie behind stringy dualities. Its A-twisted moduli space at genus 0 case has been used in the Mirror Principle [L-L-Y] that relates Gromov-Witten invariants and mirror symmetry computations. In this paper the A-twisted moduli stack for higher genus curves is defined and systematically studied. It is proved that such a moduli stack is an Artin stack. For genus 0, it has the A-twisted moduli space of [M-P] as the coarse moduli space. The detailed proof of the regularity of the collapsing morphism by Jun Li in [L-L-Y: I and II] can be viewed as a natural morphism from the moduli stack of genus 0 stable maps to the A-twisted moduli stack at genus 0. Due to the technical demand of stacks to physicists and the conceptual demand of supersymmetry to mathematicians, a brief introduction of each topic that is most relevant to the main contents of this paper is given in the beginning and the appendix respectively. Themes for further study are listed in the end.
A note on étale atlases for Artin stacks and Lie groupoids, Poisson structures and quantisation

Abstract:We explain how any Artin stack $\mathfrak{X}$ over $\mathbb{Q}$ extends to a functor on non-negatively graded commutative cochain algebras, which we think of as functions on Lie algebroids or stacky affine schemes. There is a notion of étale morphisms for these CDGAs, and Artin stacks admit étale atlases by stacky affines, giving rise to a small étale site of stacky affines over $\mathfrak{X}$. This site has the same quasi-coherent sheaves as $\mathfrak{X}$ and leads to efficient formulations of shifted Poisson structures, differential operators and quantisations for Artin stacks. There are generalisations to higher and derived stacks. We also describe analogues for differentiable and analytic stacks; in particular, a Lie groupoid naturally gives a functor on NQ-manifolds which we can use to transfer structures. In those settings, local diffeomorphisms and biholomorphisms are the analogues of étale morphisms. This note mostly elaborates constructions scattered across several of the author's papers, but with an emphasis on the functor of points perspective. New results include consistency checks showing that the induced notions of structures such as vector bundles or torsors on a stacky affine scheme coincide with familiar definitions in terms of flat connections.

Abstract:We provide necessary and sufficient conditions for when an algebraic stack admits a good moduli space and prove a semistable reduction theorem for points of algebraic stacks equipped with a $\Theta$-stratification. These results provide a generalization of the Keel--Mori theorem to moduli problems whose objects have positive dimensional automorphism groups and give criteria on the moduli problem to have a separated or proper good moduli space. To illustrate our method, we apply these results to construct proper moduli spaces parameterizing semistable $\mathcal{G}$-bundles on curves and moduli spaces for objects in abelian categories.

Coherently complete algebraic stacks in positive characteristic

Abstract:With the long-term goal of proving local structure theorems of algebraic stacks in positive characteristic near points with reductive (but possibly non-linearly reductive) stabilizer, we conjecture that quotient stacks of the form $[\mathrm{Spec}\, A/G]$, with $G$ reductive and $A^G$ complete local, are coherently complete along the unique closed point. We establish this conjecture in two interesting cases: (1) $A^G$ is artinian and (2) $G$ acts trivially on $\mathrm{Spec}\, A$. We also establish coherent completeness results for graded unipotent group actions. In order to establish these results, we prove a number of foundational statements concerning cohomological and completeness properties of algebraic stacks -- including on how these properties ascend and descend along morphisms.

Abstract:We give a variant of Artin algebraization along closed subschemes and closed substacks. Our main application is the existence of étale, smooth or syntomic neighborhoods of closed subschemes and closed substacks. In particular, we prove local structure theorems for stacks and their derived counterparts and the existence of henselizations along linearly fundamental closed substacks. These results establish the existence of Ferrand pushouts, which answers positively a question of Temkin–Tyomkin.

Abstract:We prove the generic base change theorem for stacks, and give an exposition on the lisse-analytic topos of complex analytic stacks, proving some comparison theorems between various derived categories of complex analytic stacks. This enables us to deduce the decomposition theorem for perverse sheaves on complex Artin stacks with affine stabilizers from the case over finite fields.
A Representability Theorem for Stacks in Derived Geometry Contexts

Abstract:The representability theorem for stacks, due to Artin in the underived setting and Lurie in the derived setting, gives conditions under which a stack is representable by an $n$-geometric stack. In recent work of Ben-Bassat, Kelly, and Kremnizer, a new theory of derived analytic geometry has been proposed as geometry relative to the $(\infty,1)$-category of simplicial commutative Ind-Banach $R$-modules, for $R$ a Banach ring. In this paper, we prove a representability theorem which holds in a very general context, which we call a representability context, encompassing both the derived algebraic geometry context of Toën and Vezzosi and these new derived analytic geometry contexts. The representability theorem gives natural and easily verifiable conditions for checking that derived stacks in these contexts are $n$-geometric, such as having an $n$-geometric truncation, being nilcomplete, and having an obstruction theory. Future work will explore representability of certain moduli stacks arising in derived analytic geometry, for example moduli stacks of Galois representations.

Abstract:We construct the étale motivic Borel-Moore homology of derived Artin stacks. Using a derived version of the intrinsic normal cone, we construct fundamental classes of quasi-smooth derived Artin stacks and demonstrate functoriality, base change, excess intersection, and Grothendieck-Riemann-Roch formulas. These classes also satisfy a general cohomological Bézout theorem which holds without any transversity hypotheses. The construction is new even for classical stacks and as one application we extend Gabber's proof of the absolute purity conjecture to Artin stacks.

Abstract:Recent results in geometric invariant theory (GIT) for non-reductive linear algebraic group actions allow us to stratify quotient stacks of the form [X/H], where X is a projective scheme and H is a linear algebraic group with internally graded unipotent radical acting linearly on X, in such a way that each stratum [S/H] has a geometric quotient S/H. This leads to stratifications of moduli stacks (for example, sheaves over a projective scheme) such that each stratum has a coarse moduli space.

In his article, Ghys showed that the analytic germ of the representation variety of in , pointed at the trivial morphism, determines the Kuranishi space of . In this note, we show that the tautological family above a Zariski analytic open subset V in remains complete. Moreover, the computation of the isotropy group of a complex structure in Teichmüller space, allows us to affirm that the quotient stack is an open substack of the Teichmüller stack of .

Generalized cohomology theories for algebraic stacks

Abstract:We extend the stable motivic homotopy category of Voevodsky to the class of scalloped algebraic stacks, and show that it admits the formalism of Grothendieck's six operations. Objects in this category represent generalized cohomology theories for stacks like algebraic K-theory, as well as new examples like genuine motivic cohomology and algebraic cobordism. These cohomology theories admit Gysin maps and satisfy homotopy invariance, localization, and Mayer-Vietoris. For example, we deduce that homotopy K-theory satisfies cdh descent on scalloped stacks. We also prove a fixed point localization formula for torus actions. Finally, the construction is contrasted with a "lisse-extended" stable motivic homotopy category, defined for arbitrary stacks: we show for example that lisse-extended motivic cohomology of quotient stacks is computed by the equivariant higher Chow groups of Edidin-Graham, and we also get a good new theory of Borel-equivariant algebraic cobordism. Moreover, the lisse-extended motivic homotopy type is shown to recover all previous constructions of motives of stacks.

GIT Constructions of Compactified Universal Jacobians over Stacks of Stable Maps

Abstract:We prove that any compactified universal Jacobian over any stack of stable maps, defined using torsion-free sheaves which are Gieseker semistable with respect to a relatively ample invertible sheaf over the universal curve, admits a projective good moduli space which can be constructed using GIT, and that the same is true for analogues parametrising semistable sheaves of higher rank. We also prove that for different choices of invertible sheaves, the corresponding good moduli spaces are related by a finite number of "Thaddeus flips". As a special case of our methods, we provide a new GIT construction of the universal Picard variety of Caporaso and Pandharipande.

Abstract:This is the first in a projected series of three papers in which we construct the second flip in the log minimal model program for $\bar{M}_g$. We introduce the notion of a weakly proper algebraic stack, which may be considered as an abstract characterization of those mildly non-separated moduli problems encountered in the context of Geometric Invariant Theory (GIT), and develop techniques for proving that a stack is weakly proper without the usual semistability analysis of GIT. We define a sequence of moduli stacks of curves involving nodes, cusps, tacnodes, and ramphoid cusps, and use the aforementioned techniques to show that these stacks are weakly proper. This will be the key ingredient in forthcoming work, in which we will prove that these moduli stacks have projective good moduli spaces which are log canonical models for $\bar{M}_g$.

Abstract:First, we prove an algebraization result for rig-smooth algebras over a general noetherian ring; this positively answers the question raised in [Sta24, Tag 0GAX]. Then we prove a general partial algebraization result in non-archimedean geometry. The result says that we can always algebraize a geometrically reduced affinoid rigid-analytic space in "one direction" in an appropriate sense. As an application of this result, we show the remaining cases of the Artin-Grothendieck Vanishing for affinoid algebras, which were previously conjectured in [BM21, §7]. This allows us to deduce a stronger version of the rigid-analytic Artin-Grothendieck Vanishing Conjecture (see [Han20, Conj. 1.2]) over a field of characteristic 0. Using a completely different set of ideas, we also obtain a weaker version of this conjecture over a field of characteristic p>0.

Abstract:We prove that every variety with log-terminal singularities admits a crepant resolution by a smooth Artin stack. We additionally prove new McKay correspondences for resolutions by Artin stacks, expressing stringy invariants of $\mathbb{Q}$-Gorenstein varieties in terms of motivic integrals on arc spaces of smooth stacks. In the crepant case, these McKay correspondences are particularly simple, demonstrating one example of the utility of crepant resolutions by Artin stacks.

Abstract:Applying the new theory of analytic stacks of Clausen and Scholze we introduce a general notion of derived Tate adic spaces. We use this formalism to define the analytic de Rham stack in rigid geometry, extending the theory of $D$-cap-modules of Ardakov and Wadsley to the theory of analytic $D$-modules. We prove some foundational results such as the existence of a six functor formalism and Poincaré duality for analytic $D$-modules, generalizing previous work of Bode. Finally, we relate the theory of analytic $D$-modules to previous work of the author with Rodrigues Jacinto on solid locally analytic representations of $p$-adic Lie groups.
