We show that the subgroup of [math] generated by the tame automorphisms and a countably infinite set of explicitly given automorphisms of [math] is dense in [math] with respect to the formal power series topology.

Invariant Metrics on Nilpotent Lie algebras

Abstract:We state criteria for a nilpotent Lie algebra $\g$ to admit an invariant metric. We use that $\g$ possesses two canonical abelian ideals $\ide(\g) \subset \mathfrak{J}(\g)$ to decompose the underlying vector space of $\g$ and then we state sufficient conditions for $\g$ to admit an invariant metric. The properties of the ideal $\mathfrak{J}(\g)$ allows to prove that if a current Lie algebra $\g \otimes \Sa$ admits an invariant metric, then there must be an invariant and non-degenerate bilinear map from $\Sa \times \Sa$ into the space of centroids of $\g/\mathfrak{J}(\g)$. We also prove that in any nilpotent Lie algebra $\g$ there exists a non-zero, symmetric and invariant bilinear form. This bilinear form allows to reconstruct $\g$ by means of an algebra with unit. We prove that this algebra is simple if and only if the bilinear form is an invariant metric on $\g$.

Abstract:We look at the interconnection between Lie nilpotent Jordan algebras and Lie nilpotent associative algebras. It is proved that a special Jordan algebra is Lie nilpotent if and only if its associative enveloping algebra is Lie nilpotent. Also it turns out that a Jordan algebra is Lie nilpotent of index 2n + 1 if and only if its algebra of multiplications is Lie nilpotent of index 2n. Finally, we prove a product theorem for Jordan algebras.

On generic properties of nilpotent algebras

Abstract:We study general nilpotent algebras. The results obtained are new even for the classical algebras, such as associative or Lie algebras. We single out certain generic properties of finite-dimensional algebras, mostly over infinite fields. The notion of being generic in the class of $n$-generated algebras of an arbitrary primitive class of $c$-nilpotent algebras appears naturally in the following way. On the set of the isomorphism classes of such algebras one can introduce the structure of an algebraic variety. As a result, the subsets are endowed with the dimensions as algebraic varieties. A subset $Y$ of a set $X$ of lesser dimension can be viewed as negligible in $X$. For example, if $n\gg c$, we determine that an automorphism group of a generic algebra $P$ consists of the automorphisms, which are scalar modulo $P^2$. Generic ideals are in $I(P)$, the annihilator of $P$. In the case of classical nilpotent algebras as above, the generic algebras are graded by the degrees with respect to some generating sets.

Abstract:We show that for a given nilpotent Lie algebra $\mathfrak{g}$ with $Z(\mathfrak{g})\subseteq [\mathfrak{g},\mathfrak{g}]$ all commutative post-Lie algebra structures, or CPA-structures, on $\mathfrak{g}$ are complete. This means that all left and all right multiplication operators in the algebra are nilpotent. Then we study CPA-structures on free-nilpotent Lie algebras $F_{g,c}$ and discover a strong relationship to solving systems of linear equations of type $[x,u]+[y,v]=0$ for generator pairs $x,y\in F_{g,c}$. We use results of Remeslennikov and Stöhr concerning these equations to prove that, for certain $g$ and $c$, the free-nilpotent Lie algebra $F_{g,c}$ has only central CPA-structures.

Abstract:For a finite set of homogeneous locally nilpotent derivations of the algebra of polynomials in several variables, a finite dimensionality criterion for the Lie algebra generated by these derivations is known. Also the structure of the corresponding finite-dimensional Lie algebras is described in previous works. In this paper, we obtain a finite dimensionality criterion for a Lie algebra generated by a finite set of homogeneous derivations, each of which is not locally nilpotent.

Abstract:We give an estimate of the number $N(\lambda)$ of eigenvalues $<\lambda$ for the image under an irreducible representation of the ``sublaplacian'' on a stratified nilpotent Lie algebra. We also give an estimate for the trace of the heat-kernel associated with this operator. The estimates are formulated in term of geometrical objects related to the representation under consideration. An important particular case is the Schrödinger equation with polynomial electrical and magnetical fields.

Abstract:Let N and M be two nests on Banach spaces X and Y, respectively, and let Φ be a linear map between nest algebras AlgN and AlgM of which the range contains all rank-1 nilpotent operators in AlgM. We give some structure theorems for Φ to be rank-1 nilpotency preserving in both directions, and obtain particularly a characterization of such Φ if it is bounded and X and Y are Hilbert spaces with dimX⩾6.
A new look at Lie algebras

Abstract:We present a new look at description of real finite-dimensional Lie algebras. The basic element turns out to be a pair $(F,v)$ consisting of a linear mapping $F\in End(V)$ and its eigenvector $v$. This pair allows to build a Lie bracket on a dual space to a linear space $V$. This algebra is solvable. In particular, when $F$ is nilpotent, the Lie algebra is also nilpotent. We show that these solvable algebras are the basic bricks of the construction of all other Lie algebras. %Which allows, having a collection of pairs $(F_i,v_i)$, $i=1, \dots, n$, to construct any Lie algebra. Using relations between the Lie algebra, the Lie--Poisson structure and the Nambu bracket, we show that the algebra invariants (Casimir functions) are solutions of an equation which has a geometric sense. Several examples illustrate the importance of these constructions.

Abstract:The aim of this work is to solve the problem of determining the necessary and sufficient conditions for a vector subspace invariant by a nilpotent endomorphism to admit a complementary invariant subspace for the same linear operator. As applications, we offer results about Jordan bases associated with nilpotent linear maps and reflexive generalized inverses of finite potent endomorphisms and square matrices.

Abstract:For a positive and invertible linear operator $T$ acting on a $C^*$-algebra, we give necessary and sufficient criteria for the inverse operator $T^{-1}$ to be positive, too. Moreover, a simple counterexample shows that $T^{-1}$ need not be positive even if $T$ is unital and its spectrum is contained in the unit circle.

Abstract:For a unital non-simple $C^*$-algebra $\mathcal A$ we consider its Banach--Lie group $G$ of invertible elements. For a given closed ideal $\mathfrak k$ in $\mathcal A$, we consider the embedded Banach--Lie subgroup $K$ of $G$ of elements differing from the unit element by an element in $\mathfrak k$. We study vector bundle maps of the tangent space of the homogeneous space $G/K$, induced by an admissible bounded operator on $\mathcal A$. In particular, we discuss when this vector bundle map is a Nijenhuis operator in $G/K$. The special case of almost complex structures in $G/K$ is also addressed. Examples for particular classes of $C^*$-algebras are presented, including the Toeplitz algebra and crossed products by $\mathbb Z$.

Abstract:In this paper we study the isotopism classes of two-step nilpotent algebras. We show that every nilpotent Leibniz algebra $\mathfrak{g}$ with $\operatorname{dim}[\mathfrak{g},\mathfrak{g}]=1$ is isotopic to the Heisenberg Lie algebra or to the Heisenberg algebra $\mathfrak{l}_{2n+1}^{J_1}$, where $J_1$ is the $n \times n$ Jordan block of eigenvalue 1. We also prove that two such algebras are isotopic if and only if the Lie racks integrating them are isotopic. This gives the classification of Lie racks whose tangent space at the unit element is a nilpotent Leibniz algebra with one-dimensional commutator ideal. Eventually, we introduce new isotopism invariants for Leibniz algebras and Lie racks.

Abstract:Let $ A$ be a complex unital Banach algebra. An element $a \in A$ is said to be Hermitian, if $ \| \exp (ita) \| =1$ for all $t\in R$. In the case of the algebra of bounded linear operators in a Hilbert space this Hermitian property agrees with the ordinary selfadjointness. If $a \in A$ is Hermitian, then $|a|=||a||$, where $|a|$ denotes the spectral radius of $a$. A function $F: R\to \C$ is called the universal symbol if $ \|| F(a)||= |F(a)|$\ for each $ A$ and all Hermitian $a\in A$. We characterize universal symbols in terms of positive definite functions.

Abstract:The paper is devoted to the study of local derivations and automorphisms of nilpotent Lie algebras. Namely, we proved that nilpotent Lie algebras with indices of nilpotency $3$ and $4$ admit local derivation (local automorphisms) which is not a derivation (automorphisms). Further, it is presented a sufficient condition under which a nilpotent Lie algebra admits a local derivation which is not a derivation. With the same condition, it is proved the existence of pure local automorphism on a nilpotent Lie algebra. Finally, we present an $n$-dimensional non-associative algebra for which the space of local derivations coincides with the space of derivations.
