Abstract:Let $N$ be a smooth manifold and $f:N\to N$ be a $C^l$, $l\geq 2$ diffeomorphism. Let $M$ be a normally hyperbolic invariant manifold, not necessarily compact. We prove an analogue of the $\lambda$-lemma in this case.

Abstract:By studying a fully nonlinear flow deforming conformal metrics on compact and connected manifold, we prove that for $\lambda < 1$, any metric g with its modified Schouten tensor $A^\lambda_{g}\in \Gamma_k^-$ always can be deformed in a natural way to a conformal metric with constant $\sigma_k$-scalar curvature at exponential rate.

Abstract:We prove that every closed, smooth $n$-manifold $X$ admits a Riemannian metric together with a smooth, transversely oriented CMC foliation if and only if its Euler characteristic is zero, where by CMC foliation we mean a codimension-one, transversely oriented foliation with leaves of constant mean curvature and where the value of the constant mean curvature can vary from leaf to leaf. Furthermore, we prove that this CMC foliation of $X$ can be chosen so that the constant values of the mean curvatures of its leaves change sign. We also prove a general structure theorem for any such non-minimal CMC foliation of $X$ that describes relationships between the geometry and topology of the leaves, including the property that there exist compact leaves for every attained value of the mean curvature.

Abstract:An n-dimensional lambda-hypersurface X : M -> Rn+1 is the critical point of the weighted area functional integral(M) e(-1/4|X|2) d mu for weighted volume-preserving variations, which is also a generalization of the self-shrinking solution of the mean curvature flow. We first prove that if the L-n-norm of the second fundamental form of the lambda-hypersurface X : M -> Rn+1 with n >= 3 is less than an explicit positive constant K(n, lambda), then M is a hyperplane. Secondly, we show that if the L-n-norm of the trace-free second fundamental form of M with n >= 3 is less than an explicit positive constant D(n, lambda) and the mean curvature is suitably bounded, then M is a hyperplane. We also obtain similar results for lambda-surfaces in R-3 under L-4-curvature pinching conditions.

Abstract:We control the number of critical points of a height function arising from the Nash isometric embedding of a compact Riemanniann-manifoldM. The Ln/2 curvature norm ∥R∥ and a similar scalar ∥R∥ are introduced and their integralR(M) andR(M) overM. We prove thatR(M) is bounded below by a constant depending only onn and the Betti numbers ofM. Thus a new sphere theorem is proved by eliminating allith Betti numbers fori = 1, .…n −1. The emphasis is that our sphere theorem imposes no restriction on the range of curvature.

Abstract:We use adiabatic limits to study foliated manifolds. The Bott connection naturally shows up as the adiabatic limit of Levi-Civita connections. As an application, we then construct certain natural elliptic operators associated to the foliation and present a direct geometric proof of a vanshing theorem of Connes[Co], which extends the Lichnerowicz vanishing theorem [L] to foliated manifolds with spin leaves, for what we call almost Riemannian foliations. Several new vanishing theorems are also proved by using our method.

In this article, we prove that, for every robustly transitive set Lambda, f vertical bar(Lambda) satisfies a C-1-generic-stable shadowable property (resp., C-1-generic-stable transitive specification property or C-1-generic-stable barycenter property) if and only if Lambda is a hyperbolic basic set. In particular, f vertical bar(Lambda) satisfies a C-1-stable shadowable property (resp., C-1-stable transitive specification property or C-1-stable barycenter property) if and only if Lambda is a hyperbolic basic set. Similar results are valid for volume-preserving case.

Abstract:We show that the $\partial\bar{\partial}$-lemma holds for the non-K\"ahler compact complex manifolds of dimension three with trivial canonical bundle constructed by Clemens as deformations of Calabi-Yau threefolds contracted along smooth rational curves with normal bundle of type $(-1, -1)$, at least on an open dense set in moduli. The proof uses the mixed Hodge structure on the singular fibers and an analysis of the variation of the Hodge filtration for the smooth fibers.

Abstract:Let $M$ be a relatively compact $C^2$ domain in a complex manifold $\mathcal M$ of dimension $n$. Assume that $H^{1}(M,\Theta)=0$ where $\Theta$ is the sheaf of germs of holomorphic tangent fields of $M$. Suppose that the Levi-form of the boundary of $M$ has at least 3 negative eigenvalues or at least $n-1$ positive eigenvalues pointwise. We will first construct a homotopy formula for $\Theta$-valued $(0,1)$-forms on $\overline M$. We then apply a Nash-Moser iteration scheme to show that if a formally integrable almost complex structure of the Hölder-Zygmund class $\Lambda^r$ on $\overline M$ is sufficiently close to the complex structure on $ M$ in the Hölder-Zygmund norm $\Lambda^{r_0}(\overline M)$ for some $r_0>5/2$, then there is a diffeomorphism $F$ from $\overline M$ into $\mathcal M$ that transforms the almost complex structure into the complex structure on $F(M)$, where $F \in \Lambda^s(M)$ for all $s<r+1/2$.

Abstract:We prove a Morrey-type theorem for Hamiltonian stationary submanifolds of $\mathbb{C}^{n}$. Namely, if $L$ $\subset$ $\mathbb{C}^{n}$ is a $C^{1}$ Lagrangian submanifold with weakly harmonic Lagrangian phase $\theta,$ then $L$ must be smooth. In the process we also discuss a local version of the equation, which is a nonlinear fourth order double divergence equation of the potential function whose gradient graph defines the Hamiltonian stationary submanifolds locally, and we establish full regularity and removability of singular sets of capacity zero for weak solutions with $C^{1,1}$ norm below a dimensional constant.

Abstract:Let N be a (n+1)-dimensional globally hyperbolic Lorentzian manifold with a compact Cauchy hypersurface. We consider curvature flows in N with different curvature functions F (including the mean curvature, the gauss curvature and the second elementary symmetric polynomial) and a volume preserving term. Under suitable assumptions we prove the long time existence of the flow and the exponential convergence of the corresponding graphs in the $C^\infty$-topology to a hypersurface of constant F-curvature. Furthermore we examine stability properties and foliations of constant F-curvature hypersurfaces.

Abstract:This is a paper in a series that studies smooth relative Lie algebra homologies and cohomologies based on the theory of formal manifolds and formal Lie groups. In two previous papers, we develop the basic theory of formal manifolds, including generalizations of vector-valued distributions and generalized functions on smooth manifolds to the setting of formal manifolds. In this paper, we establish Poincaré's lemma for de Rham complexes with coefficients in formal functions, formal generalized functions, compactly supported formal densities, or compactly supported formal distributions.

Abstract:Let $M$ be an oriented geometrically finite hyperbolic manifold of infinite volume with dimension at least $3$. For all $k \geq 0$, we provide a lower bound on the $k$th eigenvalue of the Laplace-Beltrami operator of $M$ by the $k$th eigenvalue of some neighborhood of the thick part of the convex core, up to a constant. As an application, we recover a theorem similar to the one of Burger and Canary which bounds the bottom $\lambda_0$ of the spectrum from below by $\frac{c}{\text{vol}(C_1(M))^2}$, where $C_1(M)$ is the $1$-neighborhood of the convex core and $c$ is a constant.

Abstract:Abstract In this paper, we show that $\lambda (z_1) -\lambda (z_2)$, $\lambda (z_1)$, and $1-\lambda (z_1)$ are all Borcherds products on $X(2) \times X(2)$. We then use the big CM value formula of Bruinier, Kudla, and Yang to give explicit factorization formulas for the norms of $\lambda (\frac{d+\sqrt d}2)$, $1-\lambda (\frac{d+\sqrt d}2)$, and $\lambda (\frac{d_1+\sqrt{d_1}}2) -\lambda (\frac{d_2+\sqrt{d_2}}2)$, with the latter under the condition $(d_1, d_2)=1$. Finally, we use these results to show that $\lambda (\frac{d+\sqrt d}2)$ is always an algebraic integer and can be easily used to construct units in the ray class field of ${\mathbb{Q}}(\sqrt{d})$ of modulus $2$. In the process, we also give explicit formulas for a whole family of local Whittaker functions, which are of independent interest.

Abstract:In this paper we prove that the space $\cM(n,\rv,D,\Lambda):=\{(M^n,g) \text{ closed }: ~~\Ric\ge -(n-1),~\Vol(M)\ge \rv>0, \diam(M)\le D \text{ and } \int_{M}|\Rm|^{n/2}\le \Lambda\}$ has at most $C(n,\rv,D,\Lambda)$ many diffeomorphism types. This removes the upper Ricci curvature bound of Anderson-Cheeger's finite diffeomorphism theorem in \cite{AnCh}. Furthermore, if $M$ is Kähler surface, the Riemann curvature $L^2$ bound could be replaced by the scalar curvature $L^2$ bound.

Abstract:In this note we study $(\lambda,\mu)$-eigenfamilies on compact Riemannian manifolds when $\lambda = \mu$. We show that any compact manifold admitting a $(\lambda,\lambda)$-eigenfunction is a mapping torus and that any $(\lambda,\lambda)$-eigenfamily is one dimensional. Additionally, we consider generalised eigenfamilies, which can have higher dimension, and relate these to harmonic Riemannian submersions to a torus.
