Abstract:In the present paper we prove the "zero-two" law for positive contractions of lattices $L^p(\nabla,\mu)$ of Banach-Kantorovich, constructed by the measure $\mu$ with values in the ring of all measurable functions.

Abstract:In the present paper we study majorizable operators acting on Banach-Kantorovich $L_p$-lattices, constructed by a measure $m$ with values in the ring of all measurable functions. Then using methods of measurable bundles of Banach-Kantorovich lattices, we prove the strong "zero-two" law for positive contractions of the Banach-Kantorovich $L_p$-lattices.

Abstract:Zaharopol proved the following result: let $T,S:L^1(X,{\cf},\m)\to L^1(X,{\cf},\m)$ be two positive contractions such that $T\leq S$. If $\|S-T\|<1$ then $\|S^n-T^n\|<1$ for all $n\in\bn$. In the present paper we generalize this result to multi-parameter contractions acting on $L^1$. As an application of that result we prove a generalization of the "zero-two" law.

Abstract:The present paper deals with -valued measures and the associated Orlicz–Kantorovich lattice. The considered Orlicz–Kantorovich lattice, endowed with the Luxemburg norm, is represented as a measurable bundle of classical Orlicz spaces associated with scalar measures. This kind of representation allows us to investigate positive contractions and apply the corresponding zero-two laws on the classical Orlicz spaces, to prove vector versions of "zero-two" laws on the considered Orlicz–Kantorovich space.

Abstract:In this paper, we first study some elementary properties of a typical positive contraction on $\ell_q$ for the Strong Operator Topology and the Strong* Operator Topology. Using these properties we prove that a typical positive contraction on $\ell_1$ (resp. on $\ell_2$) has a non-trivial invariant subspace for the Strong Operator Topology (resp. for the Strong Operator Topology and the Strong* Operator Topology). We then focus on the case where $X$ is a Banach space with a basis. We prove that a typical positive contraction on a Banach space with an unconditional basis has no non-trivial closed invariant ideals for the Strong Operator Topology and the Strong* Operator Topology. In particular this shows that when $X = \ell_q$ with $1 \leq q < \infty$, a typical positive contraction $T$ on $X$ for the Strong Operator Topology (resp. for the Strong* Operator Topology when $1 < q < \infty$) does not satisfy the Abramovich, Aliprantis and Burkinshaw criterion, that is there is no non-zero positive operator in the commutant of $T$ which is quasinilpotent at a non-zero positive vector of $X$. Finally we prove that, for the Strong* Operator Topology, a typical positive contraction on a reflexive Banach space with a monotone basis does not satisfy the Abramovich, Aliprantis and Burkinshaw criterion.

Abstract:We study extreme contractions in the setting of finite-dimensional polyhedral Banach spaces. Motivated by the famous Krein-Milman Theorem, we prove that a \emph{rank one} norm one linear operator between such spaces can be expressed as a convex combination of \emph{rank one} extreme contractions, whenever the domain is two-dimensional. We establish that the same result holds true in the space of all linear operators from $\ell_{\infty}^n(\mathbb{C}) $ to $ \ell_1^n (\mathbb{C}). $ Furthermore, we present a geometric characterization of extreme contractions between finite-dimensional polyhedral Banach spaces.

Abstract:We show that, given a closed subset $E$ of the unit circle of Lebesgue measure zero, there exists a positive sequence $u_n\to\infty$ with the following property: if $T$ is a Hilbert-space contraction such that $\sigma(T)\subset E$ and $\|T^{-n}\|=O(u_n)$ and rank$(I-T^*T)<\infty$, then $T$ is a unitary operator. We further show that the condition of measure zero is sharp.

Abstract:Let $T$ be a injective bounded linear operator on a complex Hilbert space. We characterize the complex numbers $\lambda,\mu$ for which $(I+\lambda T)(I+\mu T)^{-1}$ is a contraction, the characterization being expressed in terms of the numerical range of the possibly unbounded operator $T^{-1}$. When $T=V$, the Volterra operator on $L^2[0,1]$, this leads to a result of Khadkhuu, Zemánek and the second author, characterizing those $\lambda,\mu$ for which $(I+\lambda V)(I+\mu V)^{-1}$ is a contraction. Taking $T=V^n$, we further deduce that $(I+\lambda V^n)(I+\mu V^n)^{-1}$ is never a contraction if $n\ge2$ and $\lambda\ne\mu$.

Abstract:Paszkiewicz's conjecture asserts that given a decreasing sequence $T_1\ge T_2\ge \dots$ of positive contractions on a separable infinite-dimensional Hilbert space $H$, the product $S_n=T_nT_{n-1}\cdots T_1$ converges in the strong operator topology. In these notes, we give an equivalent, more precise formulation of his conjecture. Moreover, we show that the conjecture is true for the following two cases: (1) $1$ is not in the essential spectrum of $T_n$ for some $n\in \mathbb{N}$. (2) The von Neumann algebra generated by $\{T_n\mid n\in \mathbb{N}\}$ admits a faithful normal tracial state. We also remark that the analogous conjecture for the weak convergence is true.

Abstract:The Paszkiewicz conjecture about a product of positive contractions asserts that given a decreasing sequence $T_1\ge T_2\ge \dots$ of positive contractions on a separable infinite-dimensional Hilbert space, the product $S_n=T_n\dots T_1$ converges strongly. Recently, the first named author verified the conjecture for certain classes of sequences. In this paper, we prove the Paszkiewicz conjecture in full generality. Moreover, we show that in some cases, a generalized version of the Paszkiewicz conjecture also holds.

Abstract:We analyse and characterise the notion of lattice Lipschitz operator (a class of superposition operators, diagonal Lipschitz maps) when defined between Banach function spaces. After showing some general results, we restrict our attention to the case of those Lipschitz operators which are representable by pointwise composition with a strongly measurable function. Mimicking the classical definition and characterizations of (linear) multiplication operators between Banach function spaces, we show that under certain conditions the requirement for a diagonal Lipschitz operator to be well-defined between two such spaces $X(\mu)$ and $Y(\mu)$ is that it can be represented by a strongly measurable function which belongs to the Bochner space $\mathcal M(X,Y) \big(\mu, Lip_0(\mathbb R) \big). $ Here, $\mathcal M(X,Y) $ is the space of multiplication operators between $X(\mu)$ and $Y(\mu),$ and $Lip_0(\mathbb R)$ is the space of real-valued Lipschitz maps with real variable that are equal to $0$ in $0. $ This opens the door to a better understanding of these maps, as well as finding the relation of these operators to some normed tensor products and other classes of maps.

Abstract:We introduce null contractions of the Poincare and relativistic conformal algebras. The longitudinal null contraction involves writing the algebra in lightcone coordinates and contracting one of the null directions. For the Poincare algebra, this yields two non-overlapping co-dimension one Carroll algebras. The transverse contraction is a limit on the spatial dimensions and yields two non-overlapping co-dimension one Galilean algebras. We find, similar to Susskind's original observation of the non-relativistic case, that the Poincare algebra, written in the lightcone coordinates, naturally contains Carrollian sub-algebras in one lower dimension. The effect of the longitudinal contraction, which essentially focusses on the null direction, is to disentangle the two Carroll algebras that now correspond to the symmetries of the two null boundaries. The transverse contraction similarly separates the overlapping Galilean sub-algebras of the original Poincare algebra. We discuss aspects of the conformal case, where we get lower dimensional Carroll Conformal algebras and Schrodinger algebras.

Abstract:Let (S, σ, μ) be a space with a nonatomic measure and assume that there is given a sequence Tn, n ⩾ 1, of integral operators where the kernels are measurable and bounded. One shows that (under certain assumptions), for any function from LP, 1 ⩽ p < ∞, one can rearrange the values on the sets of arbitrarily small measure (or to interchange the sign on sets of arbitrarily small measure) so that for the obtained function g, the sequence Tng converges in LP as n → ∞. From here it follows that for any function from LP, 1 ⩽ p < 2, by rearrangements or by arrangements of signs, one can achieve that the series with respect to any given orthonormal family of bounded functions, complete in L2, should converge in LP. Similar questions are investigated for the convergence almost everywhere and the integrability of the maximal operator.

Abstract:We prove a contraction property for certain classes of smooth functions, whose absolute values of elements are log-subharmonic functions in the unit ball, thus extending the results of Kulikov to higher-dimensional space (GAFA (2022)). Moreover, by applying those results we get some new results for harmonic mappings in the complex plane.

Abstract:Caffarelli's contraction theorem states that probability measures with uniformly logconcave densities on R d can be realized as the image of a standard Gaussian measure by a globally Lipschitz transport map. Abstract:We introduce two new classes of single-valued contractions of polynomial type defined on a metric space. For the first one, called the class of polynomial contractions, we establish two fixed point theorems. Namely, we first consider the case when the mapping is continuous. Next, we weaken the continuity condition. In particular, we recover Banach's fixed point theorem. The second class, called the class of almost polynomial contractions, includes the class of almost contractions introduced by Berinde [Nonlinear Analysis Forum. 9(1) (2004) 43--53]. A fixed point theorem is established for almost polynomial contractions. The obtained result generalizes that derived by Berinde in the above reference. Several examples showing that our generalizations are significant, are provided.
