Abstract:We study discrete models which are generated by the self-dual Yang–Mills equations. Using a double complex construction, we construct a new discrete analog of the Bogomolny equations. Discrete Bogomolny equations, a system of matrix-valued difference equations, are obtained from discrete self-dual equations. The gauge invariance of the discrete model is established.

Abstract:A 3-dimensional reduction of the seld-dual Yang-Mills (SDYM) equation, named SDYM3, is examined from the point of view of its symmetry and integrability characteristics. By using a non-auto-Backlund transformation, this equation is connected to its potential form (PSDYM3) and a certain isomorphism between the Lie algebras of symmetries of the two systems is shown to exist. This isomorphism allows us to study the infinite-dimensional Lie algebraic structure of the "potential symmetries" of SDYM3 by examining the symmetry structure of PSDYM3 (which is an easier task). By using techniques described in a recent paper, the recursion operators for both SDYM3 and PSDYM3 are derived. Moreover, a Lax pair and an infinite set of nonlocal conservation laws for SDYM3 are found, reflecting the fact that SDYM3 is a totally integrable system. This system may physically represent gravitational fields or chiral fields.

Abstract:Quantum chromodynamics with two zero mass flavors is expected to exhibit a phase transition with O(4) critical behavior. Fixing the universality class is important for phenomenology and for facilitating the extrapolation of simulation data to physical quark mass values. At Lattice '96 the Tsukuba and Bielefeld groups reported results from new simulations with dynamical staggered quarks at $N_t = 4$, which suggested a departure from the expected critical behavior. We report observations of similar deviations and discuss efforts in progress to understand this phenomenon.

Abstract:By making use of the U(1) gauge potential decomposition theory and the phi-mapping topological current theory, we investigate the Schrodinger-Chern-Simons model in the thin-film superconductor system and obtain all exact Bogomolny self-dual equation with a topological term. It is revealed that there exist self-dual vortices in the system. We study the inner topological structure of the self-dual vortices and show that their topological charges are topologically quantized and labeled by Hopf indices and Brouwer degrees. Furthermore, the vortices are found generating or annihilating at the limit points and encountering, splitting or merging at the bifurcation points of the vector field phi.

Abstract:We compare several improved actions for staggered quarks. We study the effect of improvement on the taste changing interactions by calculating the splitting in the pion spectrum. We investigate the effect of the improvement on some topological properties.

Abstract:Based on the U(1) gauge potential decomposition theory and $\phi$-mapping theory, the topological inner structure of the self-duality (Bogomol'nyi-type) equations are studied. The special form of the gauge potential decomposition is obtained directly from the first of the self-duality equations. Using this decomposition, the topological inner structure of the Chern-Simons-Higgs (CSH) vortex is discussed. Furthermore, we obtain a rigorous self-dual equation with topological term for the first time, in which the topological term has been ignored by other physicists.

Abstract:There exists a large class of models which are self-dual with respect to inversion of coupling constants. When a theta term is added, this duality may be extended to an invariance under an action of an infinite discrete modular group on the coupling parameter space. In particular, four-dimensional abelian lattice gauge theories possess a Sp(2k, Z) modular symmetry, where k is the number of simple factors in the gauge group. We generalize this result to models of arbitrary dimension, and show that the partition functions of two-dimensional ZN spin models with 2k flavors and string compactifications on k-dimensional tori are invariant under O(k, k; Z). We also draw some suggestive parallels to the fractional quantum Hall effect.

Abstract:In this paper we aim to derive solutions for the SU(N) self-dual Yang-Mills (SDYM) equation with arbitrary N. A set of noncommutative relations are introduced to construct a matrix equation that can be reduced to the SDYM equation. It is shown that these relations can be generated from two different Sylvester equations, which correspond to the two Cauchy matrix schemes for the (matrix) Kadomtsev-Petviashvili hierarchy and the (matrix) Ablowitz-Kaup-Newell-Segur hierarchy, respectively. In each Cauchy matrix scheme we investigate the possible reductions that can lead to the SU(N) SDYM equation and also analyze the physical significance of some solutions, i.e. being Hermitian, positive-definite and of determinant being one.& COPY; 2023 Elsevier B.V. Abstract:We develop a general formalism of duality rotations for $\cal N$-extended superconformal gauge multiplets in conformally flat backgrounds as an extension of the approach given in <a class="link-https" data-arxiv-id="2107.02001" href="https://arxiv.org/abs/2107.02001">arXiv:2107.02001</a>. Additionally, we construct $\mathsf{U}(1)$ duality-invariant models for the ${\mathcal N}=2$ superconformal gravitino multiplet recently described in <a class="link-https" data-arxiv-id="2305.16029" href="https://arxiv.org/abs/2305.16029">arXiv:2305.16029</a>. Each of them is automatically self-dual with respect to a superfield Legendre transformation. A method is proposed to generate such self-dual models, including a family of superconformal theories.

Abstract:The Cauchy matrix approach is developed to solve the SU(2) self-dual Yang--Mills equation. Starting from a Sylvester matrix equation coupled with certain dispersion relation for infinite coordinates, the self-dual Yang--Mills equation under Yang's formulation is constructed. By imposing further constraints on complex independent variables, a broad class of explicit solutions are obtained.

Abstract:In this work, we study (anti-)self duality conditions in unconventional conformal supersymmetry. We focus on a theory constructed in a Townsend-MacDowell-Mansouri form for an SU(2 , 2| N ) gauge connection with matter fields in the adjoint representation. We find bosonic solutions that correspond to analytic gravitational instantons with nontrivial torsion. These configurations can be regarded as the torsional generalization of the Taub-NUT/Bolt-AdS and Eguchi-Hanson metric and they are (anti-)self-dual with respect to a generalized dual operator. We explore their global properties and show that they saturate a BPS bound.

Abstract:The double copy programme relies crucially on the so-called color-kinematics duality which, in turn, is widely believed to descend from a kinematic algebra possessed by gauge theories. In this paper we construct the kinematic algebra of gauge invariant and off-shell self-dual Yang-Mills theory, up to trilinear maps. This structure is a homotopy algebra of the same type as the ones recently uncovered in Chern-Simons and full Yang-Mills theories. To make contact with known results for the self-dual sector, we show that it reduces to the algebra found by Monteiro and O'Connell upon taking light-cone gauge and partially solving the self-duality constraints. Finally, we test a double copy prescription recently proposed in [1] and reproduce self-dual gravity.

Abstract:The paper establishes a direct linearization scheme for the SU(2) anti-self-dual Yang-Mills (ASDYM) equation.The scheme starts from a set of linear integral equations with general measures and plane wave factors. After introducing infinite-dimensional matrices as master functions, we are able to investigate evolution relations and recurrence relations of these functions, which lead us to the unreduced ASDYM equation. It is then reduced to the ASDYM equation in the Euclidean space and two ultrahyperbolic spaces by reductions to meet the reality conditions and gauge conditions, respectively. Special solutions can be obtained by choosing suitable measures.

Abstract:We give an N = 1 supersymmetrization of a four-dimensional self-dual Yang-Mills theory based on the product superspace (1,1) x (1,1). The model is shown to be equivalent to the zero curvature condition on a superplane parametrized by a point in the complex projective superspace CP3,4. The linear system is given according to this geometrical interpretation, and the effective action which governs the dynamics of the model is also proposed.

Abstract:By analyzing brane configurations in detail, and extracting general lessons, we develop methods for analyzing S-duality of supersymmetric boundary conditions in N=4 super Yang-Mills theory. In the process, we find that S-duality of boundary conditions is closely related to mirror symmetry of three-dimensional gauge theories, and we analyze the IR behavior of large classes of quiver gauge theories.
