Abstract:We show that there are no partially hyperbolic horseshoes with positive Lebesgue measure for diffeomorphisms whose class of differentiability is higher than 1. This generalizes a classical result by Bowen for uniformly hyperbolic horseshoes.

Abstract:A class of planar diffeomorphims is formulated, with infinitely many coexisting Smale horseshoes, where the Lebesgue measure of the parameters with such strange dynamics is infinite. On each horseshoe, there exists a uniformly hyperbolic invariant set, on which the map is topologically conjugate to the two-sided full-shift on two symbols. Moreover, the topological entropy is infinite in certain parameter regions.

Abstract:We study a rich family of robustly non-hyperbolic transitive diffeomorphisms and we show that each ergodic measure is approached by hyperbolic sets in weak$*$-topology and in entropy. For hyperbolic ergodic measures, it is a classical result of A. Katok. The novelty here is to deal with non-hyperbolic ergodic measures.

Abstract:We derive some statistical properties for equilibrium states of partially hyperbolic horseshoes. We define a projection map associated to the horseshoe and prove a spectral gap for its transfer operator acting on the space of Hölder continuous observables. From this we deduce an exponential decay of correlations and a central limit theorem. We finally extend these results to the horseshoe.

Abstract:We study the amount of nonhyperbolicity within a broad class of (nonhyperbolic) partially hyperbolic diffeomorphisms with a one-dimensional center. For that, we focus on the center Lyapunov exponent and the entropy of its level sets. We show that these entropies vary continuously and can be expressed in terms of restricted variational principles. In this study, no dynamical coherence is required.

Abstract:We prove that, for $C^1$-generic diffeomorphisms, if a homoclinic class is not hyperbolic, then there is a non-hyperbolic ergodic measure supported on it. This proves a conjecture by Díaz and Gorodetski [28]. We also discuss the conjectured existence of periodic points with different stable dimension in the class.

Abstract:Let H(C)$${\mathcal {H}}({\mathbb {C}})$$ be the set of entire functions endowed with the topology of local uniform convergence. Fix a sequence of non-zero complex numbers (λn)$$({\lambda }_n)$$ with lim infn|λn+1||λn|>2.$$\liminf _{n}\frac{|{\lambda }_{n+1}|}{|{\lambda }_n|}>2.$$ We prove that there exists no entire function f$$f$$ such that for every b∈C\{0}$$b\in \mathbb {C}\setminus \{ 0\}$$ the set {f(z+λnb):n=1,2,…}$$\{ f(z+{\lambda }_nb): n=1,2,\ldots \}$$ is dense in H(C).$${\mathcal {H}}({\mathbb {C}}).$$ This, on one hand gives a negative answer to Costakis (Approximation by translates of entire functions, Complex and harmonic analysis. Destech Publ., Inc., Lancaster, pp 213–219 2007, Question 2) and on the other hand shows that certain results from Tsirivas (Existence of common hypercyclic vectors for translation operators, 2014; Common hypercyclic functions for translation operators with large gaps, 2014) are sharp.

Abstract:We consider partially hyperbolic diffeomorphisms $f$ with a one-dimensional central direction such that the unstable entropy exceeds the stable entropy. Our main result proves that such maps have a finite number of ergodic measures of maximal entropy. Moreover, any $C^{1+}$ diffeomorphism near $f$ in the $C^1$ topology possesses at most the same number of ergodic measures of maximal entropy. Our contribution is in extending the findings in [4] to arbitrary dimensions. We believe our technique, essentially distinct from the one in that paper, is robust and may find applications in further contexts.

Abstract:We prove that, for a C-2 non-invertible but non-degenerate map f on a compact Riemannian manifold without boundary, a hyperbolic invariant measure mu is absolutely continuous with respect to the Lebesgue measure on the manifold if, under a condition on the Jacobian of the map, the measure satisfies two entropy formulae for positive exponents [13] and negative exponents [7], respectively. This implies that the entropy production e(mu)(f) = 0 if and only if mu << Leb.

Abstract:We give an example of a parabolic holomorphic self-map f of the unit ball whose canonical Kobayashi hyperbolic semi-model is given by an elliptic automorphism of the disc , which can be chosen to be different from the identity. As a consequence, in contrast to the one dimensional case, this provides a first example of a holomorphic self-map of the unit ball which has points with zero hyperbolic step and points with nonzero hyperbolic step, solving an open question and showing that parabolic dynamics in the ball is radically different from parabolic dynamics in the disc. The example is obtained via a geometric method, embedding the ball as a domain in the bidisc that is forward invariant and absorbing for the map , where denotes the right half-plane. We also show that a complete Kobayashi hyperbolic domain with such properties cannot be Gromov hyperbolic w.r.t. the Kobayashi distance (hence, it cannot be biholomorphic to ) if an additional quantitative geometric condition is satisfied.

Abstract:In this paper we mainly deal with an invariant (ergodic) hyperbolic measureμ for a diffeomorphism f, assuming that f is just C^1 and for μa.e. x, the sum of Oseledec spaces corresponding to negative Lyapunovexponents (quasi-limit-)dominates the sum of Oseledec spaces corresponding topositive Lyapunov exponents at x. We generalize a certain of results of Pesintheory from C^1+α to the C^1 system (f,μ), including asufficient condition for existence of horseshoe, Livshitz theorem, exponentialgrowth of periodic points, distribution of periodic points, periodic measures,horseshoes, nonuniform specification and lower semi-continuity of entropyfunction etc. In particular, they are applied for C^1 partially hyperbolicsystems whose central bundle displays some non-uniform hyperbolicity, includingsome robust systems. Moreover, for some C^1 partially hyperbolic (notnecessarily volume-preserving) systems, we get some information of Lebesguemeasure on Average-nonuniform hyperbolicityand volume-non-expanding. A constructed machinery is developed for C^1 (not necessarilyC^1+α) diffeomorphisms: new Pesin blocks is established topologically(independent on measures) such that every block has stable manifold theorem andsimultaneously has exponential shadowing. The new construction, different withclassical C^1+α ones, is mainly inspired from Liao'squasi-hyperbolicity and so here we call new blocks by Liao-Pesin blocks andcall the new established C^1 Pesin theory by C^1 Liao-Pesin Theory.Liao-Pesin set not only exists for invariant measures, but also exists forgeneral probability measures, for example, Lebesgue measure (not assuminginvariant) in some partially hyperbolic systems.

Abstract:We show the existence of large $\mathcal C^1$ open sets of area preserving endomorphisms of the two-torus which have no dominated splitting and are non-uniformly hyperbolic, meaning that Lebesgue almost every point has a positive and a negative Lyapunov exponent. The integrated Lyapunov exponents vary continuously with the dynamics in the $\mathcal C^1$ topology and can be taken as far away from zero as desired. Explicit real analytic examples are obtained by deforming linear endomorphisms, including expanding ones. The technique works in nearly every homotopy class and the examples are stably ergodic (in fact Bernoulli), provided that the linear map has no eigenvalue of modulus one.

Abstract:We construct examples illustrating that dynamically-defined distributions of holomorphic diffeomorphisms on compact complex manifolds are not necessarily holomorphic in any open subset. More precisely, for any $n\geq 5$, we construct a holomorphic fibered partially hyperbolic system on a complex $n$-fold, where the center distribution is not holomorphic in any open subset. For $n=3$ we demonstrate a contrast: the center distribution of any fibered holomorphic partially hyperbolic diffeomorphism on a complex $3$-fold is holomorphic. In particular, any such a system is a holomorphic skew product over a linear automorphism on a complex $2$-torus.

Abstract:In this paper, we study the existence and properties of conformal measures on limit sets of (anti)holomorphic correspondences. We show that if the critical exponent satisfies $1\leq \delta_{\operatorname{crit}}(x) <+\infty,$ the correspondence $F$ is (relatively) hyperbolic on the limit set $\Lambda_+(x)$, and $\Lambda_+(x)$ is minimal, then $\Lambda_+(x)$ admits a non-atomic conformal measure for $F$ and the Hausdorff dimension of $\Lambda_+(x)$ is strictly less than 2. As a special case, this shows that for a parameter $a$ in the interior of a hyperbolic component of the modular Mandelbrot set, the limit set of the Bullett--Penrose correspondence $F_a$ has a non-atomic conformal measure and its Hausdorff dimension is strictly less than 2. The same results hold for the LLMM correspondences, under some extra assumptions on its defining function $f$.

Abstract:In this note we show that all partially hyperbolic automorphisms on a 3-dimensional non-Abelian nilmanifold can be C1-approximated by structurally stable C∞-diffeomorphisms, whose chain recurrent set consists of one attractor and one repeller. In particular, all these partially hyperbolic automorphisms are not robustly transitive. As a corollary, the holonomy maps of the stable and unstable foliations of the approximating diffeomorphisms are twisted quasiperiodically forced circle homeomorphisms, which are transitive but non-minimal and satisfy certain fiberwise regularity properties.
