Abstract:The paper gives analogues of some starting results in the theory of Gaussian Hilbert Spaces for semicircular distributed random variables. The transition from the commutative to the free frame is done considering matrices of increasing dimension and utilizing the Amitzur-Levitzki Theorem.

Abstract:In the last two decades a number of structures on the classical space of translation invariant valuations on convex bodies were discovered, e.g. product, convolution, a Fourier type transform. In this paper a non-Archimedean analogue of the space of such (even) valuations with similar structures is constructed. It is shown that, like in the classical case, the new space equipped with either product or convolution satisfies Poincaré duality and hard Lefschetz theorem.

Abstract:Motivated by questions in quantum theory, we study Hilbert space valued Gaussian processes, and operator-valued kernels, i.e., kernels taking values in B(H) (= all bounded linear operators in a fixed Hilbert space H). We begin with a systematic study of p.d. B(H)-valued kernels and the associated of H-valued Gaussian processes, together with their correlation and transfer operators. In our consideration of B(H)-valued kernels, we drop the p.d. assumption. We show that input-output models can be computed for systems of signed kernels taking the precise form of realizability via associated transfer block matrices (of operators analogous to the realization transforms in systems theory), i.e., represented via 2\times2 operator valued block matrices. In the context of B(H)-valued kernels we present new results on regression with H-valued Gaussian processes.

On the structure of multivariate Gabor systems and a result on Gaussian Gabor frames

Abstract:We introduce an equivalence relation on the set of lattices in $\mathbb{R}^{2d}$ such that equivalent lattices support identical structures of Gabor systems, up to unitary equivalence, a notion we define. These equivalence classes are parameterized by symplectic forms on $\mathbb{R}^{2d}$ and they consist of lattices related by symplectic transformations. This implies that $2d^2 - d$ parameters suffice to describe the possible structures of Gabor systems over lattices in $\mathbb{R}^{2d}$, as opposed to the $4d^2$ degrees of freedom in the choice of lattice. We also prove that (modulo a minor complication related to complex conjugation) symplectic transformations are the only linear transformations of the time-frequency plane which implement equivalences of this kind, thereby characterizing symplectic transformations as the structure-preserving transformations of the time-frequency plane in the context of Gabor analysis. In addition, we investigate the equivalence classes that have separable lattices as representatives and find that the parameter space in this case is $d^2$-dimensional. We provide an explicit example showing that non-separable lattices with irrational lattice points can behave exactly like separable and rational ones. This approach also allows us to formulate and prove a higher-dimensional variant of the Lyubarskii-Seip-Wallstén Theorem for Gaussian Gabor frames. This gives us, for a large class of lattices in $\mathbb{R}^{2d}$ (including all symplectic ones), necessary and sufficient conditions for $d$-parameter families of Gaussians to generate Gabor frames.

Abstract:Let $\mathcal{M}$ be a $\sigma$-finite von Neumann algebra, equipped with a normal faithful state $\varphi$, and let $\mathcal{A}$ be a maximal subdiagonal subalgebra of $\mathcal{M}$. We have proved that for $0< p<1$, $H^p(\mathcal{A})$ is independent of $\varphi$. Furthermore, in the case that $\mathcal{A}$ is a type 1 subdiagonal subalgebra, we have extended the most recent results about the Riesz type factorization to the case $0<p<1$ and have proved an interpolation theorem for $H^p(\mathcal{A})$ in the case where $0 < p_0, p_1 \le \infty$.

Abstract:C*-algebras are widely used in mathematical physics to represent the observables of physical systems, and are sometimes taken as the starting point for rigorous formulations of quantum mechanics and classical statistical mechanics. Nevertheless, in many cases the naive choice of an algebra of observables does not admit a C*-algebra structure, and some massaging is necessary. In this paper we investigate what properties of C*-algebras carry over to more general algebras and what modifications of the Gelfand theory of normed algebras are necessary. We use category theory as a guide and, by replacing the ordinary definition of the Gelfand spectrum with a manifestly functorial definition, we succeed in generalizing the Gelfand-Naimark theorem to locally convex *-algebras. We also recall a little-known but potentially very useful generalization of the Stone-Weierstrass theorem to completely regular, Hausdorff spaces.

Abstract:A random vector whose norm and overlap (inner product with an independent copy) concentrates is shown to have random low-dimensional projections that are approximately random Gaussians. Conversely, asymptotically random Gaussian projections imply these hypotheses. This extends and unites several existing results in geometric functional analysis and spin glasses. Applications include a large-system characterization of the joint law of cavity fields in the Sherrington-Kirkpatrick model.

Abstract:We study asymptotic infinitesimal distributions of Gaussian Unitary Ensembles with permuted entries. We show that for random uniform permutations, the asymptotically permuted GUE matrix has a null infinitesimal distribution. Moreover, we show that asymptotically different permutations of the same GUE matrix are infinitesimally free. Besides this we study particular example of entry permutation - the transpose, and we show that while a GUE matrix is asymptotically free from its transpose it is not infinitesimally free from it.

Random non-Abelian G-circulant matrices. Spectrum of random convolution operators on large finite groups

Abstract:We analyse the limiting behavior of the eigenvalue and singular value distribution for random convolution operators on large (not necessarily Abelian) groups, extending the results by M. Meckes for the Abelian case. We show that for regular sequences of groups the limiting distribution of eigenvalues (resp. singular values) is a mixture of eigenvalue (resp. singular value) distributions of Ginibre matrices with the directing measure being related to the limiting behavior of the Plancherel measure of the sequence of groups. In particular for the sequence of symmetric groups, the limiting distributions are just the circular and quarter circular laws, whereas e.g. for the dihedral groups the limiting distributions have unbounded supports but are different than in the Abelian case. We also prove that under additional assumptions on the sequence of groups (in particular for symmetric groups of increasing order) families of stochastically independent random projection operators converge in moments to free circular elements. Finally, in the Gaussian case we provide Central Limit Theorems for linear eigenvalue statistics.

Abstract:We introduce a theory of non-commutative $L^{p}$ spaces suitable for non-commutative probability in a non-tracial setting and use it to develop stochastic analysis of Grassmann-valued processes, including martingale inequalities, stochastic integrals with respect to Grassmann Itô processes, Girsanov's formula and a weak formulation of Grassmann SDEs. We apply this new setting to the construction of several unbounded random variables including a Grassmann analog of the $\Phi^{4}_{2}$ Euclidean QFT in a bounded region and weak solution to singular SPDEs in the spirit of the early work of Jona-Lasinio and Mitter on the stochastic quantisation of $\Phi^{4}_{2}$.

Classical harmonic analysis viewed through the prism of noncommutative geometry

Abstract:The aim of this paper is to bridge noncommutative geometry with classical harmonic analysis on Banach spaces, focusing primarily on both classical and noncommutative $\mathrm{L}^p$ spaces. Introducing a notion of Banach Fredholm module, we define new abelian groups, $\mathrm{K}^{0}(\mathcal{A},\mathscr{B})$ and $\mathrm{K}^{1}(\mathcal{A},\mathscr{B})$, of $\mathrm{K}$-homology associated with an algebra $\mathcal{A}$ and a suitable class $\mathscr{B}$ of Banach spaces, such as the class of $\mathrm{L}^p$-spaces. We establish index pairings of these groups with the $\mathrm{K}$-theory groups of the algebra $\mathcal{A}$. Subsequently, by considering (noncommutative) Hardy spaces, we uncover the natural emergence of Hilbert transforms, leading to Banach Fredholm modules and culminating in index theorems. Moreover, by associating each reasonable sub-Markovian semigroup with a <<Banach noncommutative manifold>>, we explain how this leads to (possibly kernel-degenerate) Banach Fredholm modules, thereby revealing the role of vectorial Riesz transforms in this context. Overall, our approach significantly integrates the analysis of operators on $\mathrm{L}^p$-spaces into the expansive framework of noncommutative geometry, offering new perspectives.

Abstract:Gabor frames with Hermite functions are equivalent to sampling sequences in true Fock spaces of polyanalytic functions. In the L^2-case, such an equivalence follows from the unitarity of the polyanalytic Bargmann transform. We will introduce Banach spaces of polyanalytic functions and investigate the mapping properties of the polyanalytic Bargmann transform on modulation spaces. By applying the theory of coorbit spaces and localized frames to the Fock representation of the Heisenberg group, we derive explicit polyanalytic sampling theorems which can be seen as a polyanalytic version of the lattice sampling theorem discussed by J. M. Whittaker in Chapter 5 of his book "Interpolatory Function Theory".

Abstract:This paper is an attempt to find large classes of noncommutative multivariable functions $g:\Omega\subset [B(\cH)^n]_1^-\to B(\cH)^n$ for which a reasonable operator model theory and dilation theory can be developed for the noncommutative domain $g(\Omega)$. In other words, we want to transfer the free analogue of Nagy-Foias theory from the unit ball $[B(\cH)^n]_1$ to other noncommutative domains, using appropriate maps.

Abstract:By Heyde's theorem, the class of Gaussian distributions on the real line is characterized by the symmetry of the conditional distribution of one linear form of independent random variables given another. We prove an analogue of this theorem for two independent random vectors taking values in the space $\mathbb{R}^n$. The obtained class of distributions consists of convolutions of Gaussian distributions and a distribution supported in a subspace, which is determined by coefficients of the linear forms.

Abstract:In the last decade it has become clear that one of the central themes within Gabor analysis (with respect to general time-frequency lattices) is a duality theory for Gabor frames, including the Wexler-Raz biorthogonality condition, the Ron-Shen's duality principle or Janssen's representation of a Gabor frame operator. All these results are closely connected with the so-called {\it Fundamental Identity of Gabor Analysis}, which we derive from an application of Poisson's summation formula for the symplectic Fourier transform. The new aspect of this presentation is the description of range of the validity of this Fundamental Identity of Gabor Analysis using Wiener amalgam spaces and Feichtinger's algebra $S_0(\R^d)$. Our approach is inspired by Rieffel's use of the Fundamental Identity of Gabor Analysis in the study of operator algebras generated by time-frequency shifts along a lattice, which was later independently rediscovered by Tolmieri/Orr, Janssen, and Daubechies et al., and Feichtinger/Kozek at various levels of generality, in the context of Gabor analysis.

Abstract:Spectral triples for nonunital algebras model locally compact spaces in noncommutative geometry. In the present text, we prove the local index formula for spectral triples over nonunital algebras, without the assumption of local units in our algebra. This formula has been successfully used to calculate index pairings in numerous noncommutative examples. The absence of any other effective method of investigating index problems in geometries that are genuinely noncommutative, particularly in the nonunital situation, was a primary motivation for this study and we illustrate this point with two examples in the text. In order to understand what is new in our approach in the commutative setting we prove an analogue of the Gromov-Lawson relative index formula (for Dirac type operators) for even dimensional manifolds with bounded geometry, without invoking compact supports. For odd dimensional manifolds our index formula appears to be completely new. As we prove our local index formula in the framework of semifinite noncommutative geometry we are also able to prove, for manifolds of bounded geometry, a version of Atiyah's L^2-index Theorem for covering spaces. We also explain how to interpret the McKean-Singer formula in the nonunital case. In order to prove the local index formula, we develop an integration theory compatible with a refinement of the existing pseudodifferential calculus for spectral triples. We also clarify some aspects of index theory for nonunital algebras.
Hypergeometric Functions of Random Matrices and Quasimodular Forms

Abstract:Hypergeometric functions of complex matrices were introduced by James in multivariate statistics. These special functions play many roles in random matrix theory. The main goal of this paper is to suggest a new use for them as holomorphic observables of the Circular Unitary Ensemble. We analyze the high-dimensional behavior of the expected derivatives of these random analytic functions, and show that they admit asymptotic expansions which can be described in terms of quasimodular forms, giving an apparently new connection between the CUE and number theory.

Abstract:We examine the distributions of non-commutative polynomials of non-atomic, freely independent random variables. In particular, we obtain an analogue of the Strong Atiyah Conjecture for free groups thus proving that the measure of each atom of any $n \times n$ matricial polynomial of non-atomic, freely independent random variables is an integer multiple of $n^{-1}$. In addition, we show that the Cauchy transform of the distribution of any matricial polynomial of freely independent semicircular variables is algebraic and thus the polynomial has a distribution that is real-analytic except at a finite number of points.
