Abstract:A simple algebraic model for charged particle moving in two dimensional space under influence of singular magnetic field is given. The fundamental assumption for the model is that every charged particle coupled to the magnetic field is transformed into a system of quasiparticles. It is also assumed for simplicity that there is in average N fluxes per particle. If the number N of fluxes is even, then the system can be identified as composite fermions. If N is odd, then we obtain composite bosons. Quantization is described as gradation by certain abelian group G. Statistics is determined by a commutation factor on the grading group G. It is schown that for N = 2 there is a state for which the magnetic field is completely compensatad by the system of quasiparticles and for N = 3 the Landau levells are fractionally filled like in the fractional quantum Hall effect.

One-Half Topological Number in Entangled Quantum Physics

Abstract:A topological phase can be engineered in quantum physics from the Bloch sphere of a spin-1/2 showing an hedgehog structure as a result of a radial magnetic field. We elaborate on a relation between the formation of an entangled wavefunction at one pole, in a two-spins model, and an interesting pair of one-half topological numbers. Similar to Cooper pairs in superconductors, the Einstein-Podolsky-Rosen pair or Bell state produces a half flux quantization, which here refers to the halved flux of the Berry curvature on the surface. These 1/2-numbers also reveal the presence of a free Majorana fermion at a pole. The topological responses can be measured when driving from north to south and also from a circularly polarized field at the poles revealing the quantized or half-quantized nature of the protected transverse currents. We show applications of entangled wavefunctions in band structures, introducing a local topological marker in momentum space, to characterize the topological response of two-dimensional semimetals in bilayer geometries.

Abstract:The study of topology of energy bands in solid has always been interesting and fruitful. Historically, Thouless et al proposed the TKNN number or Chern number of the energy bands to explain the quantization of Hall conductance in the integer quantum Hall effect. Recently, Z2 topological insulators have been intensively studied and similarly topological crystalline insulators are proposed.These materials exhibit nontrivial charge or spin transport properties that is due to the existence of metallic edge states. The edge states are protect by the topology of the energy bands of the bulk material and the band topology are described by some invariants similar to the TKNN number. However, these invariants are crude and strongly dependent on the symmetry. Here we give an unified picture of the relationship of the edge states and the geometry of the energy bands. We show the band geometry determines not only the topological but also the geometrical properties of the edge states and the picture is applicable when the symmetries are broken.

Abstract:Fractional quantum Hall systems are exotic quantum liquids which support quasiparticle excitations with fractional charge and even non-Abelian statistics. Theoretical investigations have found that these quasiparticles can be exploited to realize topological quantum computation that is fault-tolerant on the hardware level. In this article we describe the fractional quantum Hall effect with emphasis on its potential applications in topological quantum computation. We focus on the recent progress in the experimental detection of non-Abelian quasiparticles in the 5/2-filling quantum Hall system, as well as on some relevant theoretical interpretations.
Topological Matter and Fractional Entangled Quantum Geometry through Light

Abstract:Here, we reveal our recent progress on a geometrical approach of quantum physics and topological crystals linking with Dirac magnetic monopoles and gauge fields through classical electrodynamics. The Bloch sphere of a quantum spin-1/2 particle acquires an integer topological charge in the presence of a radial magnetic field. We show that global topological properties are encoded from the poles of the surface allowing a correspondence between smooth fields, metric and quantum distance with the square of the topological number. The information is transported from each pole to the equatorial plane on a thin Dirac string. We develop the theory, "quantum topometry" in space and time, and present applications on transport from a Newtonian approach, on a quantized photo-electric effect from circular dichroism of light towards topological band structures of crystals. Edge modes related to topological lattice models are resolved analytically when deforming the sphere or ellipse onto a cylinder. Topological properties of the quantum Hall effect, quantum anomalous Hall effect and quantum spin Hall effect on the honeycomb lattice can be measured locally in the Brillouin zone from light-matter coupling. The formalism allows us to include interaction effects from the momentum space. Interactions may also result in fractional entangled geometry within the curved space. We develop a relation between entangled wavefunction in quantum mechanics, coherent superposition of geometries, a way to one-half topological numbers and Majorana fermions. We show realizations in topological matter. We present a link between axion electrodynamics, topological insulators on a surface of a cube and the two-spheres' model via merons.

Fractality-induced Topology

Abstract:Fractal geometries, characterized by self-similar patterns and non-integer dimensions, provide an intriguing platform for exploring topological phases of matter. In this work, we introduce a theoretical framework that leverages isospectral reduction to effectively simplify complex fractal structures, revealing the presence of topologically protected boundary and corner states. Our approach demonstrates that fractals can support topological phases, even in the absence of traditional driving mechanisms such as magnetic fields or spin-orbit coupling. The isospectral reduction not only elucidates the underlying topological features but also makes this framework broadly applicable to a variety of fractal systems. Furthermore, our findings suggest that these topological phases may naturally occur in materials with fractal structures found in nature. This work opens new avenues for designing fractal-based topological materials, advancing both theoretical understanding and experimental exploration of topology in complex, self-similar geometries.

Interacting topological quantum aspects with light and geometrical functions

Abstract:I review my recent progress and develop a geometrical approach in the quantum with light as a guide, from the vector potential in classical physics, revealing that topological properties can be equivalently measured from the poles of a sphere. The topological state is induced on the Bloch sphere of a spin-1/2 particle from a radial magnetic field related to the physics of Skyrmions. This shows a relation between the global topological response being measured at the poles, the response to a circularly polarized field and the quantum metric. I show how this approach is helpful for the classification of matter with the detection of the global topological invariant at specific points in the Brillouin zone, e.g. the Dirac points, from the responses to electromagnetic waves such as circularly polarized light and from new geometrical functions associated to the quantum metric measuring the quantum Hall and spin Hall conductivities. The M point associated to the Brillouin zone of the honeycomb lattice also reveals the topological signature. Interactions are included in momentum space within a stochastic variational approach. In a realistic quantum model of interacting spins, this leads to fractional topological entangled aspects with a correspondence between a pair of half invariants and a Einstein–Podolsky–Rosen (EPR) pair or Bell state at one pole. I also formulate a correspondence between fractional topological numbers and resonating valence bond states. This approach gives further insight on the characterization of topological matter linked to superconductivity, protected topological semimetals in two dimensions and on the search of Majorana fermions for topologically protected quantum information. We also address a correspondence with the fractional quantum Hall effect and surface states of three-dimensional topological insulators.

Quantum geometrical properties of topological materials

Abstract:The momentum space of topological insulators and topological superconductors is equipped with a quantum metric defined from the overlap of neighboring valence band states or quasihole states. We investigate the quantum geometrical properties of these materials within the framework of Dirac models and differential geometry. The Ricci scalar is found to be a constant throughout the whole Brillouin zone, and the vacuum Einstein equation is satisfied in 3D with a finite cosmological constant. For linear Dirac models, several geometrical properties are found to be independent of the band gap, including the straight line geodesic, constant volume of the curved momentum space, exponential decay form of the nonlocal topological marker, and unity Euler characteristic in 2D, indicating the peculiar yet universal quantum geometrical properties of these models.

Phys. 49, 032303, 2008) is given rigorous foundation based on pure vector field theory independent of the electromagnetic fields. Holomorphy of 4-dimensional space-time and the nature of topological obstructions are investigated to articulate singular vortex model for photon. The utility of the Euclidean symmetry group is discussed in detail for the proposed photon model.

Abstract:Recently, we witnessed a tremendous effort to conquer the realm of acoustics as a possible playground to test with sound waves topologically protected wave propagation. Acoustics differ substantially from photonic and electronic systems since longitudinal sound waves lack intrinsic spin polarization and breaking the time-reversal symmetry requires additional complexities that both are essential in mimicking the quantum effects leading to topologically robust sound propagation. In this article, we review the latest efforts to explore with sound waves topological states of quantum matter in two- and three-dimensional systems where we discuss how spin and valley degrees of freedom appear as highly novel ingredients to tailor the flow of sound in the form of one-way edge modes and defect-immune protected acoustic waves. Both from a theoretical stand point and based on contemporary experimental verifications, we summarize the latest advancements of the flourishing research frontier on topological sound.

Abstract:Topological insulators in the spotlight In addition to having an insulating interior while at the same time supporting conducting surface states, topological insulators have many other interesting properties. Higher-order topological insulating states, where regions of interest are along edges and at corners, have been difficult to identify unambiguously. Peterson et al. developed a theoretical framework to help identify and characterize these exotic states, including a new topological marker—the fractional charge density—that can be used to detect topological states of matter when the spectroscopic probe of gapless surface states is not accessible. Topology in the space-time scaling limit of quantum dynamics

Abstract:We investigate the role of topology in the space-time scaling limit of quantum quench dynamics, where both time and system size tend to infinity at a constant ratio. There, while the standard topological characterization relying on local unitary transformations becomes ill defined, we show how a different dynamical notion of topology naturally arises through a dynamical winding number encoding the linear response of the Berry phase to a magnetic flux. Specifically, we find that the presence of a locally invisible constant magnetic flux is revealed by a dynamical staircase behavior of the Berry phase, whose topologically quantized plateaus characterize the space-time scaling limit of a quenched Rice-Mele model. These jumps in the Berry phase are also shown to be related to the interband elements of the DC current operator. We outline possible experimental platforms for observing the predicted phenomena in finite systems.

Abstract:We presented the topological current of Ehrenfest definition of phase transition. It is shown that different topology of the configuration space corresponds to different phase transition, it is marked by the Euler number of the interaction potential. The two phases separated by the coexistence curve is assigned with different winding numbers of opposite sign. We also found an universal equation of coexistence curve, from which one can arrive the phase diagram of any order classical and quantum phase transition. The topological quantum phase transition theory is established, and is applied to the Bose-Hubbard model, the phase diagram of the first order quantum PT is in agreement with recent progress.

Abstract:Time-periodic (Floquet) drive is a powerful method to engineer quantum phases of matter, including fundamentally nonequilibrium states that are impossible in static Hamiltonian systems. One characteristic example is the anomalous Floquet insulator, which exhibits topologically quantized chiral edge states similar to a Chern insulator, yet is amenable to bulk localization. We study the response of this topological system to time-dependent noise, which breaks the topologically protecting Floquet symmetry. Surprisingly, we find that the quantized response, given by partially filling the fermionic system and measuring charge pumped per cycle, remains quantized up to finite noise amplitude. We trace this robust topology to an interplay between diffusion and Pauli blocking of edge state decay, which we expect should be robust against interactions. We determine the boundaries of the topological phase for a system with spatial disorder numerically through level statistics, and corroborate our results in the limit of vanishing disorder through an analytical Floquet superoperator approach. This approach suggests an interpretation of the state of the system as a non-Hermitian Floquet topological phase. We comment on quantization of other topological responses in the absence of Floquet symmetry and potential experimental realizations.
Observation of fractional topological numbers at photonic edges and corners

Abstract:Topological phases of matter are featured with exotic edge states. However, the fractional topological numbers at edges, though predicted long ago by Jackiw and Rebbi, remain elusive in topological photonic systems. Here, we report on the observation of fractional topological numbers at the topological edges and corners in one- and two-dimensional photonic crystals. The fractional topological numbers are determined via the measurements of the photonic local density-of-states. In one-dimensional photonic crystals, we witness a rapid change of the fractional topological number at the edges rising from 0 to 1/2 when the photonic band gap experiences a topological transition, confirming the well-known prediction of Jackiw and Rebbi. In two-dimensional systems, we discover that the fractional topological number in the corner region varies from 0 to 1/2 and 1/4 in different photonic band gap phases. Our study paves the way toward topological manipulation of fractional quantum numbers in photonics.

Abstract:Topology, a mathematical concept, has recently become a popular and truly transdisciplinary topic encompassing condensed matter physics, solid state chemistry, and materials science. Since there is a direct connection between real space, namely atoms, valence electrons, bonds and orbitals, and reciprocal space, namely bands and Fermi surfaces, via symmetry and topology, classifying topological materials within a single-particle picture is possible. Currently, most materials are classified as trivial insulators, semimetals and metals, or as topological insulators, Dirac and Weyl nodal-line semimetals, and topological metals. The key ingredients for topology are: certain symmetries, the inert pair effect of the outer electrons leading to inversion of the conduction and valence bands, and spin-orbit coupling. This review presents the topological concepts related to solids from the viewpoint of a solid-state chemist, summarizes techniques for growing single crystals, and describes basic physical property measurement techniques to characterize topological materials beyond their structure and provide examples of such materials. Finally, a brief outlook on the impact of topology in other areas of chemistry is provided at the end of the article.

Abstract:There are three important types of structural properties that remain unchanged under the structural transformation of condensed matter physics and chemistry. They are the properties that remain unchanged under the structural periodic transformation-periodic properties. The properties that remain unchanged under the structural multi scale transformation-fractal properties. The properties that remain unchanged under the structural continuous deformation transformation-topological properties. In this paper, we will describe topological properties and characterizations in three layers: the first layer is intuitive concept, characterizations and applications, the second layer is logical physics understanding of topological properties, characterizations and applications, and the third layer is the nature of topological properties and its power. Duality and trinity are viewed as intrinsically topological objects and are recognized as common knowledge shared among human society activity, mathematics, physics, chemistry, biology and many other kinds of nature science and technology. Some important methods used so far to characterize the topological properties, including topological index, topological order, topological invariant, topology class and the topology partition are discussed. The theories of molecular topology, topological quantum matter including topological insulators, topological metal and topological superconductors and topological quantum computing are reviewed. The development of the topological duality connection between the qubit and singularity via topological space time is briefly introduced. We will see the use of iterated function systems (IFS)to simulate the connection between singularities and their qubit control codes. The novel applications of topology in integrated circuits technology are also discussed in this paper.
