Abstract:We study minimal graphic functions on complete Riemannian manifolds ∑ with nonnegative Ricci curvature, euclidean volume growth, and quadratic curvature decay. We derive global bounds for the gradients for minimal graphic functions of linear growth only on one side. Then we can obtain a Liouville-type theorem with such growth via splitting for tangent cones of ∑ at infinity. When, in contrast, we do not impose any growth restrictions for minimal graphic functions, we also obtain a Liouville-type theorem under a certain nonradial Ricci curvature decay condition on ∑. In particular, the borderline for the Ricci curvature decay is sharp by our example in the last section. © 2015 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.

Abstract:Let $\Sigma$ be a complete Riemannian manifold of nonnegative Ricci curvature. We prove a Liouville-type theorem: every smooth solution $u$ to minimal hypersurface equation on $\Sigma$ is a constant provided $u$ has sublinear growth for its negative part. Here, the sublinear growth condition is sharp. Our proof relies on a gradient estimate for minimal graphs over $\Sigma$ with small linear growth of the negative parts of graphic functions via iteration.

Abstract:We study minimal graphs with linear growth on complete manifolds $M^m$ with $\mathrm{Ric} \ge 0$. Under the further assumption that the $(m-2)$-th Ricci curvature in radial direction is bounded below by $C r(x)^{-2}$, we prove that any such graph, if non-constant, forces tangent cones at infinity of $M$ to split off a line. Note that $M$ is not required to have Euclidean volume growth. We also show that $M$ may not split off any line. Our result parallels that obtained by Cheeger, Colding and Minicozzi for harmonic functions. The core of the paper is a new refinement of Korevaar's gradient estimate for minimal graphs, together with heat equation techniques.

Abstract:Let B2(p) be an n-dimensional smooth geodesic ball with Ricci curvature ≥ −(n − 1)κ for some κ ≥ 0. We establish the Sobolev inequality and the uniform Neumann-Poincaré inequality on each minimal graph over B1(p) by combining CheegerColding theory and the current theory from geometric measure theory, where the constants in the inequalities only depends on n, κ, the lower bound of the volume of B1(p). As applications, we derive gradient estimates and a Liouville theorem for a minimal graph M over a smooth complete noncompact manifold Σ of nonnegative Ricci curvature and Euclidean volume growth. Furthermore, we can show that any tangent cone of Σ at infinity splits off a line isometrically provided the graphic function of M admits linear growth.

Abstract:Given a compact Riemannian manifold $M^{n+1}$ with dimension $3\leq n+1\leq 7$ and $\partial M\neq\emptyset$, the free boundary min-max theory built by Martin Man-Chun Li and Xin Zhou shows the existence of a smooth almost properly embedded minimal hypersurface with free boundary in $\partial M$. In this paper, we generalize their constructions into equivariant settings. Specifically, let $G$ be a compact Lie group acting as isometries on $M$ with cohomogeneity at least $3$. Then we show that there exists a nontrivial smooth almost properly embedded $G$-invariant minimal hypersurface with free boundary. Moreover, if the Ricci curvature of $M$ is non-negative and $\partial M$ is strictly convex, then there exist infinitely many properly embedded $G$-invariant minimal hypersurfaces with free boundary.

Abstract:In this treatise, we discuss existence and uniqueness questions for parametric minimal surfaces in Riemannian spaces, which represent minimal graphs. We choose the Riemannian metric suitably such that the variational solution of the Riemannian Dirichlet integral under Dirichlet boundary conditions possesses a one-to-one projection onto a plane. At first we concentrate our considerations on existence results for boundary value problems. Then we study uniqueness questions for boundary value problems and for complete minimal graphs. Here we establish curvature estimates for minimal graphs on discs, which imply Bernstein-type results.

Abstract:In this paper, we consider minimal graphs in the three-dimensional Riemannian manifold M × R . We mainly estimate the Gaussian curvature of such surfaces. We consider the minimal disks and minimal graphs bounded by two Jordan curves in parallel planes. The key to the proofs is the Weierstrass representation of those surfaces via ℘-harmonic mappings. We also prove some Schwarz lemma type results and some Heinz type results for harmonic mappings between geodesic disks in Riemannian surfaces.

Abstract:For any , let denote the space containing all locally Lipschitz minimal graphs of dimension n and of arbitrary codimension m in Euclidean space with uniformly bounded 2-dilation of their graphic functions. In this paper, we show that this is a natural class to extend structural results known for codimension one. In particular, we prove that any tangent cone C of at infinity has multiplicity one. This enables us to get a Neumann–Poincaré inequality on stationary indecomposable components of C . A corollary is a Liouville theorem for M . For small (we can take any ), we prove that (i) for , M is flat; (ii) for and a non-flat M , any tangent cone of M at infinity is a multiplicity one quasi-cylindrical minimal cone in whose singular set has dimension .

Abstract:We prove an analogue for a one-phase free boundary problem of the classical gradient bound for solutions to the minimal surface equation. It follows, in particular, that every energy-minimizing free boundary that is a graph is also smooth. The method we use also leads to a new proof of the classical minimal surface gradient bound.

Abstract:In this paper, we consider a connected orientable closed Riemannian manifold $M^{n+1}$ with positive Ricci curvature. Suppose $G$ is a compact Lie group acting by isometries on $M$ with $3\leq {\rm codim}(G\cdot p)\leq 7$ for all $p\in M$. Then we show the equivariant min-max $G$-hypersurface $\Sigma$ corresponding to the fundamental class $[M]$ is a multiplicity one minimal $G$-hypersurface with a $G$-invariant unit normal and $G$-equivariant index one. As an application, we are able to establish a genus bound for $\Sigma$, a control on the singular points of $\Sigma/G$, and an upper bound for the (first) $G$-width of $M$ provided $n+1=3$ and the actions of $G$ are orientation preserving.

Abstract:In this work we establish a gradient bound and Liouville-type theorems for solutions to Quasi-linear elliptic equations on compact Riemannian Manifolds with nonnegative Ricci curvature. Also, we provide a local splitting theorem when the inequality in the gradient bound becomes equality at some point. Moreover, we prove a Harnack-type inequality and an ABP estimate for the gradient of solutions in domains contained in the manifold.

Abstract:In this paper, we first prove a compactness theorem for the space of closed embedded f -minimal surfaces of fixed topology in a closed three-manifold with positive Bakry–Émery Ricci curvature. Then we give a Lichnerowicz type lower bound of the first eigenvalue of the f -Laplacian on a compact manifold with positive m -Bakry–Émery Ricci curvature, and prove that the lower bound is achieved only if the manifold is isometric to the n -sphere, or the n -dimensional hemisphere. Finally, for a compact manifold with positive m -Bakry–Émery Ricci curvature and f -mean convex boundary, we prove an upper bound for the distance function to the boundary, and the upper bound is achieved if and only if the manifold is isometric to a Euclidean ball.

Abstract:We deal with rigidity results for compact gradient Einstein-type manifolds with nonempty boundaries. As a result, we obtain new characterizations for hemispheres and geodesic balls in simply connected space forms. In dimensions three and five, we obtain topological characterizations for the boundary and upper bounds for its area.

Abstract:We discuss the global regularity of solutions f to the Dirichlet problem for minimal graphs in the hyperbolic space when the boundary of the domain Ω⊂ℝ^n has a nonnegative mean curvature and prove an optimal regularity f∈ C^1/n+1(Ω̅). We can improve the Hölder exponent for f if certain combinations of principal curvatures of the boundary do not vanish, a phenomenon observed by F.-H. Lin.

Abstract:We study the Dirichlet problem for minimal surface systems in arbitrary dimension and codimension via mean curvature flow, and obtain the existence of minimal graphs over arbitrary mean convex bounded C2 domains for a large class of prescribed boundary data. This result can be seen as a natural generalization of the classical sharp criterion for solvability of the minimal surface equation by Jenkins-Serrin. In contrast, we also construct a class of prescribed boundary data on just mean convex domains for which the Dirichlet problem in codimension 2 is not solvable. Moreover, we study existence and the uniqueness of minimal graphs by perturbation.

Abstract:In this paper, we study the angle estimate of distance functions from minimal hypersurfaces in manifolds of Ricci curvature bounded from below using Colding's method in [13]. With Cheeger-Colding theory, we obtain the Laplacian comparison for limits of distance functions from minimal hypersurfaces in the version of Ricci limit space. As an application, if a sequence of minimal hypersurfaces converges to a metric cone $CY\times\mathbb{R}^{n-k}(2\leq k\leq n)$ in a non-collapsing metric cone $CX\times\mathbb{R}^{n-k}$ obtained from ambient manifolds of almost nonnegative Ricci curvature, then we can prove a Frankel property for the cross section $Y$ of $CY$. Namely, $Y$ has only one connected component in $X$.
