Abstract: We show that the Hardy-Littlewood maximal operator and a class of Calderón-Zygmund singular integrals satisfy the strong type modular inequality in variable $L^p$ spaces if and only if the variable exponent $p(x)\sim const$.

Abstract:In this paper we introduce a unified and compact method for proving $L^p$ Hardy and Rellich-type inequalities. The most important feature of our method is that it allows us to extend these inequalities beyond the traditional Euclidean setting. More precisely, the applications of this method span diverse contexts, including the Heisenberg group, general Carnot groups, and operators represented as the sum of squares of vector fields. Notable examples include the sub-Laplacian on Carnot groups, the Heisenberg-Greiner operator, and the Baouendi-Grushin operator.

Abstract:Let $(X,d,\mu)$ be a space of homogeneous type and $p(\cdot):X\to[1,\infty]$ be a variable exponent. We show that if the measure $\mu$ is Borel-semiregular and reverse doubling, then the condition ${\rm ess\,inf}_{x\in X}p(x)>1$ is necessary for the boundedness of the Hardy-Littlewood maximal operator $M$ on the variable Lebesgue space $L^{p(\cdot)}(X,d,\mu)$.

Abstract:We consider local "complementary" generalized Morrey spaces ${\dual \cal M}_{\{x_0\}}^{p(\cdot),\om}(\Om)$ in which the $p$-means of function are controlled over $\Om\backslash B(x_0,r)$ instead of $B(x_0,r)$, where $\Om \subset \Rn$ is a bounded open set, $p(x)$ is a variable exponent, and no monotonicity type conditio is imposed onto the function $\om(r)$ defining the "complementary" Morrey-type norm. In the case where $\om$ is a power function, we reveal the relation of these spaces to weighted Lebesgue spaces. In the general case we prove the boundedness of the Hardy-Littlewood maximal operator and Calderon-Zygmund singular operators with standard kernel, in such spaces. We also prove a Sobolev type ${\dual \cal M}_{\{x_0\}}^{p(\cdot),\om} (\Om)\rightarrow {\dual \cal M}_{\{x_0\}}^{q(\cdot),\om} (\Om)$-theorem for the potential operators $I^{\al(\cdot)},$ also of variable order. In all the cases the conditions for the boundedness are given it terms of Zygmund-type integral inequalities on $\om(r)$, which do not assume any assumption on monotonicity of $\om(r)$.

Abstract:Boundedness of an abstract formulation of Hardy operators between Lebesgue spaces over general measure spaces is studied and, when the domain is L^1, shown to be equivalent to the existence of a Hardy inequality on the half line with general Borel measures. This is done by extending the greatest decreasing minorant construction to general measure spaces depending on a totally ordered collection of measurable sets, called an ordered core. A functional description of the greatest decreasing minorant is given, and for a large class of ordered cores, a pointwise description is provided. As an application, characterizations of Hardy inequalities for metric measure spaces are given, we note that the metric measure space is not required to admit a polar decomposition.

Abstract:We show, by applying discrete weighted norm inequalities and the Rubio de Francia algorithm, that the discrete Hilbert transform and discrete Riesz potential are bounded on variable $\ell^{p(\cdot)}(\mathbb{Z})$ spaces whenever the discrete Hardy-Littlewood maximal is bounded on $\ell^{p'(\cdot)}(\mathbb{Z})$. We also obtain vector-valued inequalities for the discrete fractional maximal operator.

Abstract:Let $p(\cdot):\ \mathbb{R}^n\to(0,\infty]$ be a variable exponent function satisfying the globally log-Hölder continuous condition and $A$ a general expansive matrix on $\mathbb{R}^n$. Let $H_A^{p(\cdot)}(\mathbb{R}^n)$ be the variable anisotropic Hardy space associated with $A$ defined via the non-tangential grand maximal function. In this article, via the known atomic characterization of $H_A^{p(\cdot)}(\mathbb{R}^n)$, the author establishes its molecular characterization with the known best possible decay of molecules. As an application, the author obtains a criterion on the boundedness of linear operators on $H_A^{p(\cdot)}(\mathbb{R}^n)$, which is used to prove the boundedness of anisotropic Calderón-Zygmund operators on $H_A^{p(\cdot)}(\mathbb{R}^n)$. In addition, the boundedness of anisotropic Calderón-Zygmund operators from $H_A^{p(\cdot)}(\mathbb{R}^n)$ to the variable Lebesgue space $L^{p(\cdot)}(\mathbb{R}^n)$ is also presented. All these results are new even in the classical isotropic setting.

Abstract:The classical Hardy-Littlewood maximal operator is bounded not only on the classical Lebesgue spaces Lp(Rd) (in the case p > 1), but (in the case when 1/p(·) is log-Hölder continuous and p- = inf{p(x): x ∈ Rd > 1) on the variable Lebesgue spaces Lp(·)(Rd), too. Furthermore, the classical Hardy-Littlewood maximal operator is of weak-type (1, 1). In the present note we generalize Besicovitch’s covering theorem for the so-called γ-rectangles. We introduce a general maximal operator Msγδ, and with the help of generalized Φ-functions, the strong- and weak-type inequalities will be proved for this maximal operator. Namely, if the exponent function 1/p(·) is log-Hölder continuous and p- ≥ s, where 1 ≤ s ≤ ∞ is arbitrary (or p- ≥ s), then the maximal operator Msγδ is bounded on the space Lp(·)(Rd) (or the maximal operator is of weak-type (p(·), p(·))).

Abstract:We prove fine higher regularity results of Calderón-Zygmund-type for equations involving nonlocal operators modelled on the fractional $p$-Laplacian with possibly discontinuous coefficients of VMO-type. We accomplish this by establishing precise pointwise bounds in terms of certain fractional sharp maximal functions. This approach is new already in the linear setting and enables us to deduce sharp regularity results also in borderline cases.

Abstract:In this paper, we prove the Hardy-Leray inequality and related inequalities in variable Lebesgue spaces. Our proof is based on a version of the Stein-Weiss inequality in variable Lebesgue spaces derived from two weight inequalities due to Melchiori and Pradolini. We also discuss an application of our results to establish an existence result for the degenerate p ( ⋅ ) -Laplace operator.

Abstract:We establish analogs of sharp weighted weak-type bounds for $m$-sublinear operators satisfying sparse form domination, including multilinear Calderón-Zygmund singular integrals. Our results, which hold for general $\vec{p} \in [1,\infty)^m$ and feature quantitative improvements, rely on new local testing conditions and good-$\lambda$ inequalities. We address weak-type bounds in both the change of measure and multiplier settings.

Abstract:We study the sharp constant in the Morrey inequality for fractional Sobolev-Slobodecki\uı spaces on the whole $\mathbb{R}^N$. By generalizing a recent work by Hynd and Seuffert, we prove existence of extremals, together with some regularity estimates. We also analyze the sharp asymptotic behaviour of this constant as we reach the borderline case $s\,p=N$, where the inequality fails. This can be done by means of a new elementary proof of the Morrey inequality, which combines: a local fractional Poincaré inequality for punctured balls, the definition of capacity of a point and Hardy's inequality for the punctured space. Finally, we compute the limit of the sharp Morrey constant for $s\nearrow 1$, as well as its limit for $p\nearrow \infty$. We obtain convergence of extremals, as well.

Abstract:We revisit the generalisation of Calderon's Transfer Principle as espoused in [7]. This principle is used to generate weak type maximal inequalities for ergodic operators in the setting of σ -compact locally compact Hausdorff groups acting measure-preservingly on σ -finite measure spaces. In particular we develop a much more robust protocol for transferring weak and strong type inequalities from Orlicz spaces in the group setting to Orlicz spaces in the measure space setting. This is an important addition to the protocol developed in [7], which to date has only yielded weak type inequalities. The current approach also places fewer restrictions on the underlying Young functions describing the Orlicz spaces involved.

Abstract:Let $2\leq p<\infty$ and $X$ be a complex infinite-dimensional Banach space. It is proved that if $X$ is $p$-uniformly PL-convex, then there is no nontrivial bounded Volterra operator from the weak Hardy space $\mathscr{H}^{\text{weak}}_p(X)$ to the Hardy space $\mathscr{H}^+_p(X)$ of vector-valued Dirichlet series. To obtain this, a Littlewood--Paley inequality for Dirichlet series is established.

Abstract:In this article we study the asymptotic behavior of anisotropic nonlocal nonstandard growth seminorms and modulars as the fractional parameter goes to 1. This gives a so-called Bourgain-Brezis-Mironescu type formula for a very general family of functionals. In the particu\-lar case of fractional Sobolev spaces with variable exponent, we point out that our proof asks for a weaker regularity of the exponent than the considered in previous articles.
